Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

I’m not sure if Outback here is the same as you have in Australia but it does have an Aussie theme. For one thing, the ladies restroom is labeled Sheila’s.

Holly, what a good attitude you have about that mistake in your order. One mistake out of anbout 30 orders is a good enough percentage to have earned an A on a test.

Holly, the Medicare Wellness check that I had last winter was much more than an explanation of services. I met with a nurse first who went over my health history, noting things like what vaccines and recommended tests I have had and what I might be lacking that I should consider. Then I also met with my doctor who did a routine exam, asking lots of questions about my general health. She made a few recommendations about a couple of things  that I never would have thought about discussing with her. For example, when she was reviewing my med list and asked if the Omeprozole controls my acid reflux well, I mentioned a small problem with it.  She suggested taking  it at a different time of day. That advice alone was worth my time because it solved the problem.

SEXTRA!  SEXTRA!
1.  ANTI-NUDITY LAW TO GET CLOSER LOOK.
2.  HEALTH INSURERS SHOULD COVER NEW BREASTS.
3.  ARGUS MAKES OFFER TO SCREW CO. STOCKHOLDERS.
4.  FEMALE POLITICIANS TO DISCUSS SACRIFICES, JOYS OF PUBIC SERVICE.
5.  FORMER STATE TROOPER LOSES APPEAL IN SEX CASE.

ITS A SUNNY START BUT EXPECTING SOME RAIN SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON.  LOOKING FORWARD TO IT AS ARE OUR FORESTS.

I'M BACK!  I DIDN'T CHECK WHEN INTERNET WAS BACK.  JUST WAITED ANOTHER DAY.
JUDY.......GLAD THAT YOU HAVE YOUR POWER BACK AT LAST.  SORRY POOR HOWARD HAS TO DEAL WITH ALL THOSE TREES  ITS NICE HE HAS SOME HELP.

MARYLOU.......GETTING OUT TO EAT AND SHOP ON YOUR BIRTHDAY IS A GOOD THING.

CHERYL.......HOORAY, DEAN IS TAKING HIS NEXT STEPS TO WELLNESS.  I AM SURE ITS A BIG CHANGE NOT HAVING HIM WITH YOU AFTER 50 YEARS OF TOGETHERNESS.  YOU WILL ADJUST.  PRAYERS AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS DEAN IS DOING WELL AND WILL BE HOME SOON, IN GOOD SHAPE ONCE AGAIN,

DEVONNE.....YOU SURE ARE GETTING THE HEAT DOWN THERE.  I DON'T ENVY YOU.
MAYBE THE HEAT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH HOW GRACIE IS FEELING.  I HOPE SHE CHECKS OUT OKAY.
I LIKED YOUR JOKE ABOUT THE EARRINGS.  SO TRUE.

LINDA......GLAD TO HEAR YOUR SIS IS DOING BETTER AND YOU WERE ABLE TO HELP HER FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS.  I KNOW SHE APPRECIATES IT.
I DON'T BLAME YOU TAKING HER LAUNDRY TO DO IN YOUR OWN FAMILIAR MACHINES.  I WOULD DO THE SAME.

MY TUNA FISH IS EASY, TOO.  I PRESS THE LID INTO THE FISH TO DRAIN IT THOROUGHLY.  THEN I SCRAPE OUT THE FISH OUT WITH THE TINES OF A FORK SO THERE ARE ONLY SMALL PIECES.  I ADD A BIT OF LEMON JUICE, THEN FINELY CHOPPED ONION AND CELERY, SALT AND PEPPER, AND THEN THE MAYO.  I ENJOY IT AND SO DO A COUPLE OF MY NEIGHBORS.  THE LEMON JUICE REDUCES ANY 'FISHY' TASTE.

ITS BINGO NITE TONITE.  I HOPE FOR ANOTHER WIN.
HUGS FOR YOU ALL.  QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

Cheryl, thinking of you and Dean and sending prayers. I had no idea that's how a bone marrow transplant was done. I know it is lonely there without him and quite a big change for you. Hugs!

I have finally reached my 205 goal. It took a month to get there with some frustration, but this morning I weighed in at 202.9. My next goal is 200 so that should be an easy one to reach.

Today is Emily's birthday and they are all going to Olive Garden. I got invited this time, lol. I'll go and celebrate my weight loss...carefully, lol.

Judy, so glad you have your power back!

Trish, are you overdoing it at training? Just wondering if you need to cut back a little. I have 3 lb. weights I am lifting. I am doing this mostly for the chest tightness I still have. It will be two years this December since mastectomy, so it may never go away. Chal's MIL doesn't sound like a very nice lady.

I need to run a load to the thrift store. It's been in my vehicle for two weeks and we are taking my vehicle to Olive Garden.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

A dear friend who had gone through chemo, surgeries, radiation, etc asked her oncologist when she will be back to feeling normal again?  The dr said to her   “This is your new normal.”  😡.  Then the dr asked, “is there anything else you’d like me to add to your chart /clinical notes?”  Duh.
Remember when being a dr was considered a noble profession…
About Medicare wellness exams…they have taken the place of what we used to call yearly exams for those of us over 65…why? Because most insurance companies reimburse the drs more for Medicare wellness visits.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

Mary Lou, they told me at the office that the wellness check involved only seeing an RN. Maybe the states are different. If I want to see an RN, I can look in the mirror! And I have Ralph, Heather, now Eddie, and a few nurse friends. And Janet is correct, they get paid for this wellness thing, but that’s their problem, not mine.

We had our monthly lunch with an old friend, also a retired school nurse. We always go to the same diner. You can’t beat a diner for food. Nothing fancy, but good, filling, and you bring home enough for at least another meal.

Steph is in SoCal for a national conference of fire marshals. Her boss couldn’t make it, so she’s there representing her company.

And Heather, Julianna, and Jul’s BFF Josie (my honorary third granddaughter) did an overnight trip to Harper’s Ferry, W. Va. They were right next to an entrance of the Appalachian Trail, so they walked on it for a short distance. Now they can say they hiked the trail, LOL.

I saw a couple of articles that some states are having kids get away from laptops and AI and going back to reading books and writing. My reaction was duh.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

Howard and Albert got the 4 front yard trees cut up, picked up and dragged them behind the yard barn out of sight.  Then they picked up debris in the grass so Howard can mow.  Al had a industrial claw  that worked beautifully with no backbreaking stooping and bending.  Words can't express how grateful we are for his help. At the least, we are all going out for lunch next Thurs. and it will be our treat.  He'll come back with his tractor on a trailer when it all dries out more.

Devonne, hope you all have fun and good food for the birthday.  Is Molly feeling better?

I think so-called 'bedside manner' has diminished  in these later years.  It's always been important for the well-being of patients.  I miss my dear old Dr. Ailes, because of the years spent in his care and the familiarity.   But, everytime he came into the exam room with me, he always said "What did you do, now?"  He thought he was funny but I did get tired of it.
Now, our doctors  all like to stick Howard and I in the same room at the same time, assuming that we have no secrets and we don't, but it could change things IF there ever comes a time for more privacy.  And,  I don't like getting weighed with him looking on. (At home, I  surely don't invite him to come look at the scale! )  Last time we saw our Primary doc, I refused, politely, but I still had to tell them my weight.  This is all so silly, but it still causes me unneccesary angst and embarrassment.   Now, I really sound like a hopeless nut!

Linda, your sister's surgery has broadened your social life quite a bit.    I'm sure it's been enjoyable for both of you and certainly a legitimate reason for you.  Glad to hear how others have stepped up to help out.

I have kielbasa, whole small potatoes and  green beans in the crockpot.  Easy peasy and quite tasty.  Thanks for being here for me to vent to unjudged.   Have a good evening and sweet dreams.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

A few quick comments
Here the wellness visits are with an MD unless you request a PA.  Like I said they are actually Yearly exams which I always considered a waste… all the basically do IMHO is determine that you are alive, walking and talking, but our insurance requires a yearly exam.
Someone mentioned bed side manner, that IMHO went out the window with so many foreign drs and hospitalists.
Also none of my business, but a few of you ladies are trying to lose weight but you are eating high fat foods. Probably rich desserts
, snacks, etc.
Easy for me to say at 117 pounds.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

Judy, you do not have to tell them your weight. Just say you are not sharing today.

Since the Medicare visit doesn’t involve a doc, I’m comfortable refusing. I see the doc every 6 months. If she can’t determine my cognitive status from talking with me, she has a problem.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

The office needs 3 vitals in order to file with insurance, so feel free to pick…weight, temp, BP, pulse, BMI, etc…
Yesterday DH ask me to call the dentist because he’s had some pain.  I called and they said “can you be here in an hour?” I said yup and off we went!  Now that how to run an office.  Oh and it was with his preferred dentist.  They are great at that office.  A few years ago I called their service after hours on a Friday night, hoping to get him in Monday…they told him to be at the office at 8 AM on a Saturday!  We went of course.  I expected a huge bill but they billed the insurance company their usual fee, nothing extra for an emergency visit on a day they’re always closed.
Did I mention the roof is leaking?  We have water damage son the wall and into the built in bookcases.  I called right away (Tuesday)  they said someone would call me back and nothing yet.  Too bad our dentist doesn’t do roofs. 😂

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

INCORRECT CORRECTIONS......
1.  AN ITEM IN THURSDAY'S NATION DIGEST ABOUT MASSCHUSETTS' BUDGET CRISIS MADE REFERENCE TO NEW TAXES THAT WILL HELP PUT MASSACUSETTS  "BACK IN THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN."  THE ITEM SHOULD HAVE SAID "BACK IN THE BLACK."
2.  IN SATURDAY'S ENTERPRISE AN ARTICLE ON THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, THE MORMONS, INCORRECTLY SAID THAT 1.06 MILLION MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH LIVE IN UTAH, ' A STATE IN WHICH 70 PERCENT TAKE LSD."  THE ARTICLE SHOULD HAVE READ 'A STATE WHICH IS 70 PERCENT LDS (LATTER DAY SAINTS)."
3.  IN ONE EDITION OF TODAY'S FOOD SECTION, AN INACCCURATE NUMBER OF JALAPENO PEPPERS WAS GIVEN FOR JEANETTE CROWLEY'S SOUTHWESTERN CHICKEN SALAD RECIPE.  THE RECIPE SHOULD CALL FOR TWO, NOT 21, JALAPENO PEPPERS.

ITS NICE OUT.  WILL REACH LOW 80S TODAY.
SOUNDS LIKE THINGS WITH ALL OF YOU ARE GETTING BACK ON TRACK.  THAT'S ALWAYS GOOD TO HEAR.
I LOST $4 AT BINGO YESTERDAY BUT IT WAS STILL A FUN TIME TOGETHER.
I AM ONE WHO IS TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT AND EATING TOO MANY STARCHES, FATS, AND ALL THE GOOD THINGS I LIKE.  RED MEAT, POTATOES, PASTA, CHOCOLATE, POTATO CHIPS, ICE CREAM AND OTHER SWEETS.  AT 84, EACH DAY COULD BE MY LAST AND BEFORE I LEAVE THIS OLD EARTH, I WANT TO ENJOY MYSELF.  I'VE LOST 35 LBS IN THE LAST YEAR BY JUST CUTTING PORTIONS AND EATING FEWER DESSERTS.  I AM NOT DIABETIC NOR DOES AN FOOD I EAT CAUSE INDIGESTION SO I WANT TO CONTINUE TO EAT WHAT I LIKE.  MAYBE NOT AS OFTEN, BUT I HAVE NO INTENTION OF GOING TO LO-FAT, AWFUL-TASTING FOODS I NEVER LIKED.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO CAN KEEP TO A STRICT DIET, YOU HAVE MY BLESSING.
ITS FARMER'S MARKET MORNING FOR ME AGAIN.  I WILL BE RETURNING A BOOK I GOT 2 WEEKS AGO WHICH I HAVE READ BEFORE.  MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE CAN ENJOY IT.
I HAD LEFTOVERS YESTERDAY AND WILL FINISH THEM OFF TODAY.  I AM STILL IN A QUANDRY OF WHAT TO COOK NEXT.  IT MAY BE MY VEGGIE BEEF SOUP.  SOUP IS ALWAYS GOOD.
STAY SAFE.  HAVE A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

Thanks, Holly!    I will probably say, "it's the same (weight) as last time".  Your line is better but the above is more "me".  That's coming up Monday, our rescheduled appts. for Medicare.

Janet, thanks for the specifics about the vitals.   Good to know.  We each have some other issues to discuss with the Dr. so it will be worth going to get answers and/or a mammogram referral, in my case.

I'm still a bit screwed up from the week of chaos.  Thankful every day for real power.  It's going to be beautiful here today before some more forcasted rainy days.  But no storms coming, they say...
Tomorrow is our next small group gathering.  I'm  bringing a dessert and it will be fruit cocktail cake w/Cool Whip on top.   the easiest-peasiest to make.  And, I have all the ingreds.
so don't even need to go to the groc.  I have another special thing to do today, but I'm keeping it to myself so I don't go on and on bending your ears...yet!

QB, you're knocking it out of the park with the jokes.  Thank you, once again for taking the time to share with us.

Thoughts and prayers for Dean and Cheryl, every day...

Linda, I'm sure in the end, Darrell will enjoy time with Austen, so don't worry about that.  If not, you will still have peace of mind.  Peace of mind is huge and can be elusive.
With that, I'll close this.  Have a wonderful summer day.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

Sandra, what a gracious reply you made.

Scattered t storms and torrential rain here. I got my replacement Walmart order before the rain started. I going to make a homemade chicken pot pie for dinner. Ralph can’t eat any of the commercial or diners ones, as they all have peas in them. And it’s so simple to make.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

I decided to watch the news. Judy, I did see a lot of the damage around Gary, IN. They said it could be Tuesday before power is restored.

Harry and Megan are moving back to the UK, but no royalty duties. They are enrolling the kids in school. What is up with that?

Took Gracie to the vet and she was not there, stuck in traffic. I rescheduled for next Tuesday. She is doing a lot better, but she needs to be seen.

Sandra, you do what makes you happy and content. You have done good losing 35 lbs. and still enjoying your favorite foods.

Janet, you are right about high fat foods. In the South, the tradition is one of deep fried foods, biscuits and gravy, everything not good for you, lol.

Linda, I know you worry about Darrell, but it's good for you to get out of the house just for you!

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

Wow, a quiet day here!
Heather came up around noon and visited for a few hours. She had just left when Manda called and we talked to her for an hour. We had leftovers and I took a very late nap.
At the moment, the humidity is higher than the temperature!

Re: ODT SUNDAY 16 AUGUST ~ SAT 22 AUGUST

Janet, I am one of those trying to lose weight and my problem is not high fat food per say...it is sweets.  I have such a sweet tooth!  My son said "just cut the sugar out".  Yeah right.  I eat fairly healthy, but always want something sweet afterwards.    This week I have been stress eating and I will not even get into all of that.

Dean had his cell transfusion today.  It was 3 hours of infusion.  He was sleepy and a little nauseous because they gave him Benadryl before the treatment for some reason.  The nurse explained it really quickly as she was hooking up the bags, but I did not make out why the Benadryl.  He was napping as I left.  I will go again on Sunday to see him.

We are supposed to get severe storms once again tomorrow.  I am not looking forward to that as I do not know how to set up the generator.  Just one more thing I need to learn.

Sandra, veggie beef soups sounds wonderful.  I may make some tomorrow and take some to Dean on Sunday.  He is not liking that hospital food much.  The grilled chicken today was tough as leather.
Beef is so expensive these days!!  Well, so is everything else.  I took Gabriel to get a new outfit for school and I was shocked that Levi jeans were $75 a pair!!  They were on sale at Kohl's for $50, but still a lot for jeans.

Devonne, hoping Gracie is still doing ok.
