UNSCIENTIFIC ENGLISH.....
1. OUR NEW TEACHER TOLD US ALL ABOUT FOSSILS. BEFORE SHE CAME TO OUR CLASS, I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT A FOSSEIL LOOKED LIKE.
2. IRON WAS FIRST SMELLED IN 1759.
3. ONE HORSEPOWER IS THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY IT TAKES TO DRAG A HORSE 500 FEET IN ONE SECOND.
WE ARE HEADED TO A COUPLE OF HOT DAYS, IN THE LOW 90S. IN OUR NECK OF THE WOODS THAT'S A NO-NO. WE AREN'T USED TO SUCH HEAT. GLAD TO KNOW THAT WE MAY HAVE RAIN AGAIN THIS WEEKEND.
DEVONNE......CONGRATS TO YOU ON LOSING SO MUCH WEIGHT. I KNOW ITS A CONTINUOUS STRUGGLE TO GET EVEN LOWER. ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THE TEMPTING SNACKS ONE ADORES.
LINDA.....GOOD FOR YOU GETTING TO VISIT YOUR SISTER. AND ALSO DOING SOME OF HER LAUNDRY. I AM SURE SHE APPRECIATES IT. HAVING COMPANY IS ALSO TIRING FOR A PATIENT.
TODAY IS OUR BAR-B-Q AFTERNOON. MANAGEMENT PUTS ON A FEED FOR US GRILLING BURGERS AND HOT DOGS AND WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS, INCLUDING SOFT DRINKS AND DESSERTS. THEY DO ALL THE WORK. WE JUST SIT AND ENJOY AND STUFF OUR FACES. I GUESS I WON'T COUNT CALORIES TODAY.
I'VE BEEN BAD THO AND AFTER MY SHOWER THIS MORNING I STOOD ON THE SCALE. I AM UP 3 NASTY OLD POUNDS THAT I DO NOT WANT. I WILL HAVE TO GET BACK ON TRACK AFTER THE BAR-B-Q. I AM NOT PASSING UP THE FEEDBAG TODAY.
OUR PIZZA PARTY HAS BEEN CHANGED TO NEXT FRIDAY INSTEAD OF 2 DAYS FROM NOW. THEY FIGURED TOO MANY PARTIES TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. I AM HAPPY TO HEAR THAT SINCE IT WILL BE AFTER MY VISIT TO MY CARDIOLOGIST. GOSH, I HOPE I CAN DROP LB OR TWO BY NEXT TUESDAY.
BINGO AGAIN TONITE. TODAY IS A GOOD DAY. FUN THINGS HAPPENING. AFTER THE PARTY I CAN START A NEW JIGSAW PUZZLE. LUCKY ME I FINISHED MY LAST ONE JUST IN TIME TO CLEAR OFF THE TABLE SO IT CAN BE USED FOR THE BAR-B-Q. WE ALSO HAVE SOME STAFF JOIN US FOR THE EATING AND NEED THE PUZZLE TABLES AND CHAIRS SO 2 OF US CLEARED THEM FOR USE YESTERDAY.
I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO A FUN DAY TODAY.
THAT'S IT FROM ME LADIES. STAY SAFE. HUGS, QB S ![]()

Scales are annoying. At the dr yesterday I weighed 117, at the gym this morning 19.8 and at home today 117.5. 🤷♀️

Devonne, I’d keep the tests, covid is here forever.
I saw a Walgreen’s ad that said they are starting to give flu shots this month because flu was so bad last year.
WA and OR are both hazy from the fires.
New show starts Friday on USA, Anna Pigeon based on the books about a forest ranger.
It’s looking like rain, getting dark.

Good afternoon. I had some alone time this morning--Howard ate lunch with the ROMEOS. They always go to the same restaurant. He (and probably others) always order the same 1/2 sandwich and cup of soup.
Tomorrow, ML and I are having lunch with my Fla. friend who is back here for a speaking engagement. Yrs. ago she, her mother, myself and another friend spent a week at her time share in Williamsburg. She is a retired high school business teacher and also invited me to go with her and her student Bus. and Profession Club when they went to a retreat in San Antonio, also long ago. Needless to say, I love it when she is visiting here, her old stomping grounds, and calls me for any reason. She loves ML, too, so that's a plus.
I'm looking at a weed by the garage man door that's over six feet tall and growing. Howard evidently hasn't seen it or it would be gone. If I breathe a word about it to him, he'll immediately go out and chop it down. I would like to see just how tall it would get. ![]()
QB, how nice--party time for you all. And two of them, at that. Always freeing to not have to bring something, even if you don't mind.
I know Covid will be with us always, but I thought the tests expired after a time. I wonder if you can still get them free from the government?
In my quest to find something to do by hand, I pick up a striped linen tote at a lge. hardware store a few days ago on a clearance table. There were a bunch of them for $3/ea., orig. $17.99 that must not have sold probably due to that price. So...I carefully took it apart for the hand woven linen fabric and was surprised at the workmanship, everything matched. I may have ML run me by there tomorrow to see if there are any left.
Last night as we were sitting down to supper, I dropped my Tupperware pickle holder which spilled all the suger/vinegar brine on the floor. What a mess. We quickly wiped it up with old towels and it needs mopping which I have put off til today so I could do a better job. Fortunately ??, since it spilled between the table and hutch which is not where we walk, it could wait a bit. Haste makes waste, something I doubt I'll ever learn! ![]()
Srevotfel for supper, as BJ liked to call them. ![]()

Sandra, that sounds like some good food! I'm glad you enjoyed it and some for later too! No cooking is wonderful.
Judy, why don't you ever go with Howard to eat with the Romeos?
I bought Jack Daniels pulled pork. It's my dinner so hope it's good! I had to wash the area rug in the living room. Washable rugs are wonderful & very affordable. I had to get a special mat for LVP flooring.
My next project is family pictures. I have no room for all these pictures so I'll put them in bins with lids. I already have two gallery walls with family pictures. The frames will go to the thrift store.
I am donating a nice bed frame & footboard to the thrift store. The mattress is new and will go to the other guest room. That mattress will go to the curb. I'm keeping one guest bed "just in case" it's needed.
I decided to save the Covid test kits as a souvenir. Not a good memory, but it is what it. is. They are expired and not being issued anymore by the government as of March 2025.

Devonne, probably for the same reason that I don’t go with Ralph when he has breakfast with the Veterans. It’s a guys get together.

Devonne, because ROMEOS means Retired Old MEN Eating Out Somewhere. And I enjoy my bit of time alone at home more. Will be eating out tomorrow with ML and friend, Carole.

THESE COLLEGE APPLICATIONS NEED A 2ND THOUGHT.....
1. IF THERE IS A SINGLE WORD TO DESCRIBE ME, THAT WORD WOULD HAVE TO BE "PROFECTIONIST."
2. I WAS ABDUCTED INTO THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY.
3. I FUNCTION WELL AS AN INDIVIDUAL AND AS A GROUP.
TODAY AND TOMORROW WILL HIT 90 AND 91 BEFORE WE GO BACK DOWN AGAIN. I LOVE THE SUNSHINE BUT NOT THE HEAT. RIGHT NOW ITS 71 AND LOVELY. LUCKY US THO, OUR EVENINGS DROP DOWN TO 60S AND 70S FOR RELIEF.
REMEMBER LADIES, THIS WEEK WE HAVE A BDAY FOR JANET ON THE 7TH AND AN ANNIV. FOR PATTI ON THE 8TH.
OUR BAR-B-Q WAS GREAT. WE HAD RESIDENTS AND MANAGEMENT ALONG WITH THE MAINTENANCE STAFF HERE. I COMPLIMENTED THE GUY THAT GRILLED THE BURGERS. THEY WERE THICK AND JUICY THIS YEAR. LAST YEAR THEY WERE THINNER AND DRY. A NEW GUY, A NEW BURGER. YUMMY. THERE WERE BOTH REGULAR BEEF AND RED HOT DOGS. RED ONES ARE A MAINE THING I THINK. WE ALSO HAD CHEESEBURGERS ALONG WITH DARK MEAT AND BREAST MEAT CHICKEN GRILLED. A VARIETY OF SIDE DISHES AND DESSERTS AND ASSORTED SODAS OR WATER. I OVERDID THE EATING BUT IT SURE WAS GOOD GOING DOWN. WE EVEN GOT DOGGY BAGS TO TAKE HOME. I TOOK HOME CHICKEN BREASTS, MAC SALAD, COLE SLAW AND SLICED TOMATOES TO EAT TODAY.
I LOST $6 AT BINGO LAST NITE. THAT'S THE MOST I CAN LOSE SINCE ITS ALL WE BRING TO BINGO. NOT BAD FOR A NICE NIGHT'S ENTERTAINMENT.
TODAY I AM GOING TO OUR LOCAL FIRE STATION WITH MY NEIGHBOR KATHY. THEY GOT A GRANT TO PROVIDE NEW BOOKS AND FRESH PRODUCE TO LOCAL SENIORS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY THURSDAY NOW TIL THE MONEY RUNS OUT. I AM GOING TO SEE WHAT I CAN BRING HOME. I HOPE FOR SOME FRESH TOMATOES, CUKES, AND MAYBE SOME FRUIT. IT ALL HELPS REDUCE MY GROCERY BILL.
I HAVE TO START A NEW JIGSAW PUZZLE TODAY NOW THAT MY TABLE IS FREE AGAIN. THIS TIME I AM GOING TO DO A 500 PIECE PUZZLE MY NEIGHBOR'S SON GOT HER. IT LOOKS LIKE IT WON'T BE TOO BAD. THE PIECES ARE NOT ALL ALIKE SO THAT HELPS.
I WISH YOU ALL A NICE DAY. ENJOY IT. HUGS, QB S ![]()

I had a dr's appt. today...regular checkup with blood work. Looking forward to getting my A1C number. It dropped from 6.1 to 5.8 back in May.
Sandra, that is wonderful you have another activity to enjoy. Free produce is a huge plus!
I need to take the trash bin to the curb before it gets dark. I often do it on Friday mornings. They always come around 9:15-9:30.

IN A RUSH TO GROW UP.....
1. A FIFTH-GRADER WROTE IN AN ESSAY: "I HAVE ENJOYED MY BOYHOOD SO MUCH THAT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MY ADULTERY"
2. A YOUNG WOMAN WROTE TO COLUMNIST DOROTHY DIX. "I HAVE BEEN AN ADOLESCENT FOR THE PAST SIX OR SEVEN YEARS. WHEN WILL I GROW UP TO BE AN ADULTERESS?"
ITS 86 ALREADY. WILL HIT 90 AGAIN SOON. THEN BACK TO LOW 80S TOMORROW.
HOORAY, I GOT SOME GREAT FRESH PRODUCE AND 10 MYSTERY BOOKS I'VE NOT READ. LOVED THE SHORT TRIP TO THE FIRE STATION PARKING LOT. A FARMER AND WIFE WAS THERE WITH THEIR FRESH-PICKED GOODS TO SHARE. I BROUGHT HOME 5 RED POTATOES, A BUNCH OF BRIGHT ORANGE GLISTENING CARROTS, ONE OF BUSHY CELERY SO SLIM AND CRISP AND GREEN, 2 ZUCCHINI, 1 YELLOW SQUASH, ABOUT A DOZEN RED AND YELLOW GRAPE TOMATOES, A BIG CUCUMBER AND ONE CORN ON THE COB. I HAD THE TOMATOES IN A SALAD FOR SUPPER. I ALSO FOUND 10 PAPERBACK MYSTERIES IN MY FAVORITE GENRE WHICH WILL KEEP ME BUSY. THEY EVEN HAD BOXES OF BOOKS FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES. GREAT WAYS TO TOUCH BASE WITH THE GRANDKIDS OVER A GOOD STORYTIME. NEIGHBOR KATHY TELLS ME SHE WILL BRING US BOTH AGAIN NEXT THURSDAY. SHARON NEXT DOOR ALSO BROUGHT 3 OTHER RESIDENTS ALONG IN HER CAR. I UNDERSTAND THIS WILL HAPPEN WITH A DIFFERENT FARMER NEXT THURSDAY AND THEN 2 MORE THURSDAYS OF FREE GARDEN FRESH PRODUCE. THERE WERE BLUEBERRIES AND GREEN BEANS TOO, BUT I'M NOT A FAN. LATER IN THE DAY ANOTHER RESIDENT BROUGHT ME A LEMON AND A BAG OF SPINACH. WHAT A BONANZA OF A DAY. I HAD JUST MADE A PITCHER OF LEMONADE EARLIER SO CUT UP THE LEMON TO ADD TO IT. IT SURE BOOSTED THE FLAVOR.
FUNNY THING, I HAD FOUND 2 RECIPES THIS WEEK FEATURING FRESH SPINACH SO HAD IT ON MY GROCERY LIST THIS WEEK FOR MY SON. NOW I WON'T NEED IT. I WILL TRY THE CREAMY MEATBALL AND DITALINI CASSEROLE ON SUNDAY.
IN THE AFTERNOON WE HAD AN ICE CREAM SOCIAL SINCE MGMT LEFT US 3 LARGE TUBS OF ICE CREAM AFTER THE BARBQ: VANILLA, NEOPOLITAN, AND SHERBERT. PLUS THE TOPPINGS. I HAD VANILLA DRAPED IN HERSHEY CHOCOLATE SAUCE.
MY DR'S OFFICE THEN VERIFIED MY REGULAR CHECK UP FOR TUESDAY SO IF I AM REALLY GOOD, I MAY LOSE A LB OR TWO BEFORE THEN.
FOR MY SON I PLAN TO TRY TO MAKE MY BUNDIES IN PUFF PASTRY LATER TODAY. I WANT TO SEE IF THAT'S A WAY TO CUT DOWN ON HAVING TO MAKE MY OWN PASTRY. HE ALSO WANTS SOME CHICKEN RICE SOUP TO TAKE HOME SO THAT'S MY PLAN FOR TODAY.
I STARTED A NEW JIGSAW PUZZLE YESTERDAY. THIS ONE IS 500 PIECES. I PREFER THE 300-PIECERS SINCE THEY HAVE LARGER BITS AND ARE IN VARIOUS CUTS. THIS NEW ONE LOOKS GOOD. PIECES ARE SMALLER BUT THE CUTS ARE NOT ALL THE SAME LIKE SOME PUZZLES. WE SHALL SEE HOW THAT WORKS OUT.
I GUESS THAT'S ENOUGH FOR MY BOOK WRITING TODAY. WISHING YOU ALL A GOOD DAY. HUGS, QB S ![]()

Good Morning,
It is a sunny day here in the North East Kingdom, but will be quite humid later and maybe show showers. So A/C is on. I prefer having windows and doors open. Oh well.
I picked our second cucumber from our container deck garden. First one was yummy so I anticipate this one will be also. Nice and fresh from the deck to the table. Hope the tomatoes ripen soon. I have chives and parsley to add to my cooking as well.
Someone is at the door, back later.
Stay safe
I need to get back to the sewing room. I want to find a cute but simple quilt for a January expected great great grand daughter. Hopefully this will give me the kick in the pants that I need. Sewing room is still not really organized so it makes things more difficult to find things which is very discouraging. Doing a little at a time is not accomplishing much.

OOPS, FORGOT TO ADD HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANET ON MY REGULAR DAY'S POST.

I saw on the news site that 90k rubber ducks were dumped into the Chicago River, a yearly thing. You sponsor a duck for $10. The first one to the finish line wins an SUV, 2nd gets $2500. Money goes to special Olympics in ILLINOIS .
Trish, I saw that NZ is having a terribly cold winter, does that affect your weather?
Happy Birthday Janet!
Sandra, that is such a wonderful thing! Who sponsors it? Such a win win! Is it just for seniors?
Joni, I hope you get your mojo back!
It’s in the 90’s for several days, summer isn’t ready to retreat yet. Then we always get a hot spell in September after school starts.
The new show Anna Pigeon about a park ranger starts tonight. I have it set to record.

Almost noon, here. Howard is off to his VA mtg/appt.? He takes a number and then waits a long time til his number is called. This is the fourth time this week he and I have parted ways.
Yesterday was my turn. ML and I had lunch with our Fla. friend, Carole. We spent 3 1/2 hrs. together, most of it in the restaurant booth ( with their okay) and then an hr. outdoors on a bench. ML was ready to collapse due to a hectic outing the night before with some of her friends. But we so seldom see Carole and have a lot to catch up on. It was a special time, one I'll remember with pleasure.
A very happy birthday, Janet. Hope you're having a good one. ![]()
QB, what a windfall the past few days. Of all kinds of things. Content as you make yourself always be, I'm sure that little outing in a car was very nice. And now you have a few more of those to look forward to.![]()
That reminded me to send a text to Howard to stop by the farmer's stand for corn on his way home...IF he has any money. I don't think he does because he bummed $2 off me Tues. for the tip for his ROMEOS lunch. He just replied: No money. I'm sure he's just as glad as he will be anxious to get home after his long wait. Oh well...![]()
Holly, I'm glad you told about that new series again. I will tape it, too. Always looking for something new to watch. We've watched some old movies the last few night on TCM that were lulus. The endings can be so disappointing if not downright awful. Oh well, that's summertime TV!
Have a great second half of the day...
