Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Thanks Trish for asking about me.  I'm here, trying to not melt.  We've been in the 90's for a couple weeks.  I'd rather have your temps Trish.

In case you haven't heard the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) is on fire.  It is point of the state above Lake Superior.  The smoke is headed to Duluth, some may get to us.  We're about 80 miles west of Duluth.

Demo of our garage will start on Monday.  I'm happy to have it done but feel bad for the guys working out there.  Hopefully it will start cooling off next week.

Devonne, I can see the first picture but not the second.

Just staying in where it's cool.😥

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

MARYLOU and PATTY  I am glad you are both OK, we worry when we haven't heard for a bit
I also feel badly for the guys when they have to work outside in the heat, it's usually called off here when the temps reach over 40C ---- I think that's too hot!! Even the bowlers will continue to play till it reaches 36C I think it's dangerous, lots of them are older and it's ridiculous to be outside in that heat playing bowls.

The game for England is on tomorrow, I saw the Spain/France one this morning, it was good, not as exciting as the Norway one, the Norway team has been given a massive welcome back, I love it!! They deserve it, one of them  - Erling Haarland is so sweet, he was wonderful with  the kids and supporters, even in the game he was joking with one of the english players, I was impressed by the team.

DEVONNE how is he today, that is nasty, it must have given him quite a headache too. I hope he recovers quickly, it will be uncomfortable for a while, the stitches will be uncomfortable coming out too ((((hugs)))) to him.

SANDRA I find I am eating more last week and this, it's cold and I want more food!! I am trying to be careful it will be too easy to slip into grazing all day!

JANET how is the pool, I think you should be getting some use out of it in this heat! Hope to see some of your projects from retreats soon!

STRINGS yikes!! Hot for you too, you all now how much I dislike it, so I really feel for you.

HOLLY have you settled down at home again, takes a while to get over the family visits, so enjoyable but sad when it's over and a bit lonely I guess.

I had lots of leftovers today, so ate from the fridge!! We had brown rice with bitter chicken and veg, and also pasta and spaghetti sauce. Take you pick or a bit of both LOL

I have training in the morning, it will be cold and I still can't find my gloves, the equipment gets quite cold to hang onto!
I got a new toaster today, ours was a cheap one I got at the beginning of covid, this one is also cheap, I couldn't find a nice one I really lied, so got this in the meantime, The old one was not tasting the bottom half and almost burning the top LOL
The burnt toast smell yesterday made my mind up for me And last week it incinerated a piece to charcoal

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

EXCUSES, EXCUSES......
1.  MY DAUGHTER WAS ABSENT YESTERDAY BECAUSE SHE WAS TIRED.  SHE SPENT THE WEEKEND WITH THE MARINES.
2.  PLEASE EXCUSE FRED FOR BEING ABSENT.  HE HAD A COLD AND COULD NOT BREED WELL.

ITS BACK TO THE 80S DAYS AND 60S NITES HERE SO NICE.  WE GOT SOME RAIN LAST NITE.  NOT MUCH RAIN BUT LOTS OF THUNDER AND LIGHTNING.  I'M SURPRISED WE DID NOT LOSE POWER.

TRISH....FUNNY ABOUT YOUR APPETITE AND THE WEATHER.  FOR ME ITS JUST BEING IDLE.  JUST SITTING WATCHING TV MAKES ME HUNGRY.  ITS BETTER WHEN I AM BUSY.

DEVONNE.....DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS SITE PREFERS THE SIZE OF PICS TO BE NO LARGER THAN 480 BY 640 PIXELS?  MAYBE THE SIZE IS WRONG.  I STILL CAN'T SEE YOUR PICS.

CHERYL.....HOORAY, DEAN'S GOT A DATE TO FIX HIM UP.   I KNOW YOU TWO HAVE BEEN EAGERLY AWAITING THAT SCHEDULE.  HUGS FOR YOU BOTH.

I'M THINKING BEANS AND FRANKS TODAY FOR LUNCH AND THEN SOMETHNG LIGHTER WHEN BACK FROM BINGO.  WISH ME LUCK FOR TONITE AT BINGO LADIES.
NOW THAT THE 90S ARE BEHIND US, THE TOMATOES CAN START GROWING AGAIN.  THEY STOP GROWING IN 90S HEAT.  THE RESIDENTS HAVE SO MANY TOMATO PLANTS OUT THERE THAT THEY WILL BE SHARING WITH ALL OF US.  I THINK THEY SAID 18 OR 20 PLANTS FROM CHERRY IN RED AND YELLOW, TO LARGE HEIRLOOMS.  I CAN'T WAIT FOR SOME FRESH FROM THE GARDEN TOMATOES.
HOORAY, MY RENT CHECK FINALLY GOT TO THE MGMNT OFFICE.  I HAD CALLED AND ASKED ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME BY WED. TO LET ME KNOW IF THEY REC'D MY CHECK.  THEY CALLED THIS MORNING.  AND MY INSURANCE CHECK CLEARED THE BANK YESTERDAY SO I GUESS MAYBE A MAILBAG WAS NOT EMPTIED WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN,
HAVE A NICE DAY LADIES.  HUGS FOR YOU ALL, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Funny how some of us can see and some not the different pics.  I can see neither!  And I went back and checked the first one again.

I'm getting my hair cut this afternoon.  Then a stop at the grocery for the rest of my 'company' things.  Will get some store fried chicken for supper.  I know the so-called grilled is healthier, but it's just not the same and we don't get it too often.

Cheryl, glad to hear Dean has a solid date, now, about a month away.   Time flies for many of us but I suppose it will drag a bit for you.  I've heard the old saying, "all in good time" all my life and don't always like it!  Blessings to you both...

QB, your funnies are very funny, lately.     Thanks again for taking the time....
Best wishes at Bingo tonight.  I read 'the 28 things that will go by the wayside' after the boomer generation  is gone and one of them was Bingo.  I don't believe this was a scientific study, just some peoples' opinions.  Friend, Bobbie sent it to me...

I soaked my strawberries in vinegar water, yesterday and will carefully choose and tend to fruits and veggies I buy  from now on.  One of our grocery stores, Meijer, is based in Michigan and that's where ML shops, primarily,  so she's  concerned  She's also a former MLT and knows more about parasites, etc. than I do.  Too bad there's always SOMETHNG!!

Patty, good to hear from you.  It's supposed to be cooler in Minn. !  Are you replacing your garage with another?

Bye for now.  Hope you all have a good day whether you're too warm or too cold.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Ralph woke me up at 7:30, he found a tick embedded on his left chest. Usually I can remove them with my fingernails, but this little expletive was really attached. It broke when I was getting it out with tweezers, so off to urgent care we went. The NP had a hard time getting the pieces out, but finally did. They gave him a dose of an antibiotic there. She said it wasn’t there long enough to be concerned about Lyme’s.

From there we went to the Haircuttery so he could get his hair cut off to donate. This is his third donation, and he’s had enough.

Home for an hour, then off to lunch with friends. It was 98 out! When we got home I napped for an hour.

The bill to stay on daylight savings time passed the house, now it goes to the senate. I don’t have any strong feelings either way.

Cheryl, I’m so glad Dean has a date set, so you can get on with your lives!

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Sandra, I didn't think about the size so I will check that. I thought it was because the extension wasn't jpeg.

Do any of you know who Bobby Parrish is? He is a chef, a cookbook author and has an app called "Bobby Approved." You can scan any food and his app will tell you if he approves it or not. No approval means it has bad ingredients. He goes into grocery stores and critiques items on the shelves, which is the best olive oil to buy, what oils not to buy, etc. He videos his visits to grocery stores and has been told to leave a few of the stores, lol. It's very good info he provides. I found him and told Greg and he's now a faithful follower, lol.

Do you buy garlic? Today Bobby's video was about garlic and the bag saying "a product of China." I had no clue how bad this was to buy. China uses human waste water (sewer water) to irrigate their garlic fields. They also use pesticides/chemicals to spray the root ends to keep them from growing and to kill insects during shipping. They also bleach them to make them whiter. I headed off to the store and yes, what I've been buying does indeed say "a product from China." He said only buy garlic from California. Think it was called Gilroy. Just FYI..

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

It is a hot one today! 93 with heat index of 100.  Dean and I walked early this morning before the humidity and heat hit.  I drove Gabriel to band practice but  have been in the house otherwise.  Air conditioning is a blessing for sure.

I bought a new window blind for the spare bedroom; when Dean comes home from the hospital he will be in that room.  We had a rough time getting that thing up!  Usually it goes smoothly, but things are made so cheaply now.  That plastic thing took us an hour. I bought onw without those hanging cords, and it looks nice, but wow, a difficult time.  Dean did swear a few times!

Like Trish, we have lots of leftovers to choose from for supper.  I have spaghetti and meatballs, chicken fried rice and a couple of garlic/parm chicken legs.  Amelia is here and guess what she choose?  A Fried egg and toast.  Go figure.

Devonne, unfortunately I think most of our fruits and vegetables are loaded with pesticides from the start and they are finished in a room (picked before they are ripe) with gas of some sort.  Unless one grows it in the yard, it is not a natural veggie anymore.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Evening y'all!

I got back from the retreat Monday night late.

I had a blast.  Yesterday, I put a bunch of stuff away.  I came back with more fabric than I left with.  Shocker I know!

Simba missed his mommy.  He became very clingy, while I was gone.

I'm am back to doing estate stuff and hopefully that is a light I see at the end of the tunnel!

I did make some progress on my Hexi quilt.  Trying to figure out what/how I can take it with me to Alaska.  Decided to glue the hexies to the paper, and bring thread and needles.  Trying to minimize so I can bring back souvenirs!

Tomorrow we get a new roof.  So I will be sitting with Simba, he hates the noise from nailg*u*n*s.  I can hopefully get him to leave the house and I will take him to the park.  I won't know until tomorrow what he will allow to happen.  My fear is if we leave the house will I not get him back in the house.  With him ya never know!

Need to run.  They are going to start about 7 am.

Later my Friends!

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Yes Indy, it should be cooler here but it's not!! Today was only 83 but the humidity is still high.
Yes, we're replacing the garage. Same place, same size but we will not have to worry about it falling down anymore.

We did get smoke here but then the wind blew it away. Duluth and the north shore are really bad. Outside events are being cancelled. Hope for rain to help put them out soon.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

CHERYL I forgot to say how glad I am you have a date for Dean! So good to hear, just keep him away from germs till then it's actually good it's summer really, no 'flu bugs - or not many anyway. It's a petrie dish around here at the moment, so many with colds or  'flu, we've been lucky.

PATTY  so sad about all the smoke! and the fires of course, we know that smell all too well, I hope you get some rain!

HOLLY that is scary, I have never seen or known anyone ( or animal) with a tick, we do have them, but more in the beach/coastal suburbs - no idea why that is!  bit of a blessing really, we have so many other things LOL our mosquitos are legendary LOL The snakes and spiders most people think of really aren't a problem, they will usually keep away from you .

THERESA nice to see you back safe and sound! Does Simba treat you with disdain when you return Oscar gives Gary the cold shoulder for a few days, Gary makes it worse by trying to get his attention, but Oscar won't budge LOL

SANDRA I have been enjoying your funnies too, I keep forgetting to mention it! I do giggle away sometimes and the Mr is always asking what's so funny.

INDY it's the humidity here that drains me too, I can cope with the heat - barely - but the humidity - yuk!! I often soak my berries in vinegar/water, they say it makes them last longer, I also have found a lady that uses every bit of the strawberry, you cut the top bit off - with the green - and then weigh all that 'waste'  into a jar, add the same amount of sugar by weight and shake the jar, keep it in the fridge and shake when you think of it, in a few days ( 4-5) you will have strawberry syrup, it's delicious, I usually squish the leftover fruit to get as much liquid as =19.5pxpossible and then toss it.

DEVONNE I can see the first pics, not the last one, wonder if it a windows problem?? Weird, but the site has had problems lately - post image that is!  I knew about the garlic, I try to buy local when I can, or frozen if it's a good brand. Same with fish, fresh or a very good frozen brand.

I  have packed up my sewing, made the viral "cup of soda with packet mix" cake, it seems Ok, the girls will taste test it tomorrow, the Mr thought it was OK, I left a couple pieces out  here, the rest is packed away for my group. It's started drizzling tonight, supposed to be like it tomorrow.

The Mr goes away next week for a few days, it will be quiet here without him, a nice quiet, and I can eat whatever and whenever I want LOL If I want dinner at breakfast and breakfast for dinner (or lunch)  I will happily have it.
I can always do that anyway, but seems silly to do it when I am cooking for that night.

We were up early to watch the soccer, then will watch again on Sunday and Monday for the final. Glad those early mornings will be gone then! It was 5am again today.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Our air quality is terrible, from the fires in Canada, so all of you west of Jersey must be even worse! It’s another hot one, almost 100 today!

I’m planning on staying in today. Even with Claritin my eyes feel like allergy eyes.

Trish, my PacNW girls don’t have mosquitoes. Something about they haven’t crossed the Cascade Mountains.

Diner leftovers for dinner.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Patty, I hope Duluth gets the much needed rain.

Theresa, are you and Todd still planning on moving? When can he retire? I know y'all are a lot younger than "us."

I haven't been out this week for my outings. I did go to two grocery stores yesterday, so I guess that counts as "getting out of the house," lol. I am leaving here shortly. Tomorrow I will put my maid apron on and clean house.

I have been in a dilemma about my Nest Alexander Hybrid mattress. I decided to ditch the memory foam and try the Talalay latex foam inside my mattress cover. It's not cheap, $660 for two Twin XL. When I contacted Nest and several other companies, this is what they all recommended.  This foam has a 93% rating & excellent customer reviews, but is it for me?  I can keep it for 30 days and return it for free if I'm not happy. There will be two Twin XL ones coming next week. Praying it's the answer.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Afternoon y'all!

Trish: No Simba became a shadow.  He snuggled up to me so hard I almost fell out of bed.  I had to get him to hop down so I could get back in and then let him back up!

DS: no, we are not planning on moving.  The house is paid for.  We are just doing maintenance stuff, except for the master bath.  That has been a thorn in my side for 26 years!  I'm hoping I can get it done like I want.  We will see!   And Todd retires next year!

I have been busy, despite the roof replacement.  I got 4th of July put away, bed made, hard to do with my shadow.  I got the Damp Rid replaced in the basement.  I couldn't find the 4th container, and found it as I was turning the lights out, so it got done also.  I have sat with the most important one and tried to calm him.  I did get to take him for a walk, around noon and he wanted a long walk, then didn't want to walk home!  Silly dog!  I did get him back in the house, and he has to keep checking on me to make sure I didn't leave him with the noise!  He is finally napping this afternoon, I guess the long walk in the heat, wore him out!

I made phone calls, about the royalties, and talked to someone that had a clue.  I can submit the Parrish paperwork online, as opposed to mailing it in!  I am elated.  It will be faster, and I will do a CC, rather than mailing a check, never good to mail checks.

I have had issues with my phone since the retreat.  Someone was holding my phone, to help navigate, and I think they accidently hit stuff, so now it's figuring out what they hit, and fixing it.  I did turn it off today, and back on and got some stuff back, automagically!  I was happy.  I can now do speaker phone again!!!!!

I do need to put pictures from the retreat on my blog, plus a picture of my project, that was actually completed before the retreat!!!!!

It's thundering.  So I need to get off here.

Later my Friends!

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Patti, my grandson's Boy Scout Troop was scheduled to do an outing on the Boundary Area this weekend and now they are scrambling to find a different venue.  Those fires are horrible.  The smoke here is awful; it smells like a cross between wood smoke and burning plastic.  The air quality is hazardous, so we have been inside.  We did go to the grocery store, but that is all.  Anthony said Columbus had some smoke but it is not heavy.  The Cleveland news showed downtown, and we could not see any of the high rise buildings.  Supposed to be bad until tomorrow night.

We have a feral kitten we have been trying to trap.  That little bugger is quick!  We got his sister and she has been taken to a kitten rescue shelter for domesticating and spaying.  We were hoping to do the same with this little black one, but we cannot catch him/her.  Have been close several times, but no luck.    We paid to spay and neuter the two adult ferals that hang around here.  One male and one female.  We do not want any other kittens, so were hoping to get this one taken away or fixed too.  They will do a pediatric spay on the ferals as young as 10 weeks old in order to prevent more litters if kittens.  Then they return them to the area from which they were taken to live out their life.  We are still hoping to catch the balck one and get it to the kitten rescue so it will not have to live a life outside.  They adopt them as pets after training and spaying.  The Trap, Neuter and Return lady is actually the one taking them to the rescue site and it is a 2 hour drive for her.  Nothing close will take kittens, sadly, not even the local Humane Society.  Too many of them, I guess.  We have until Sunday afternoon to catch this one as she is taking them very early Monday morning.  Fingers crossed we catch it!

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

I like that new word - automagically!

It has been a very productive day at my house. House is all clean and the lawn was mowed - all I had to do was pay the workers!  LOL. I put the label and binding on a Quilt of Valor. Then I started on our latest guild project. It is a small wall hanging with pieced blocks that look like flowers in jars. Some of the pieces are only 1” square!  Quite challenging.

Lynn said the smoke is terrible where she is (suburb of Detroit), and their temperatures are much higher than average.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 12 ~ SAT JULY 18

Cheryl, sorry your grandson won't be able to go, it is/was such a beautiful place.
Seems that lots of us are suffering from the smoke.  We had it all last summer from Canada.

It's a sewing weekend for my quilt group.  I have two new projects to work on.  Probably won't even finish one but it will be fun to spent time with friends.
