Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

STOP THE PRESSES.....
1.  RONALD REAGAN WAS ACCOMPANIED ON HIS TOUR BY HIS FRIEND CHUCK CONNORS, TELEVISION'S "RIFLEMAN," WHO PLUGGED REAGAN EVERY CHANCE HE GOT.
2.  SINCE THE DISCLOSURES ABOUT HIS FINANCES, THE USUALLY EBULLIENT REPRESENTATIVE HAS BEEN UNAVAILABLE TO REPORTERS.

ITS GETTING WARMER.  77 RIGHT NOW BUT WILL REACH HIGH 80S TODAY AND THEN 90S TOMORROW.  THAT HEATWAVE IS ACOMIN'

DEVONNE.....I  LOVE ALL THOSE PHOTOS YOU POSTED.  ITS AMAZING WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH TECHNOLOGY THESE DAYS.  I AM LUCKY I CAN OPEN MY COMPUTER EVERY DAY.

HEY, ITS THE FIRST OF JULY.  SUMMER IS REALLY HERE NOW.  THE FOURTH IS ON SATURDAY.  ANOTHER TIME TO PARTY.
ME, I AM STAYING HOME AND ENJOYING THE REST.
YESTERDAY I SPENT THE WHOLE DAY LOOKING UP THE CALORIES AND FAT GRAMS ON THE FOODS I EAT AND MAKING A CHART.  I HAD GOTTEN RID OF MY CALORIE COUNTER BOOK  YEARS AGO.
I AM SERIOUS ABOUT COUNTING CALORIES.  I HAVE MOST OFTHE NUMBERS I NEED FOR MY PARTICULAR MEALS, BUT WILL CHECK OUT A FEW MORE ITEMS.  A LOT OF THE INFO I FOUND RIGHT ON THE CANS, PACKAGES, AND BOXES IN MY CUPBOARDS.  I ALSO COUNTED CALORIES IN MAKING MY FAVORITE MEALS AROUND HERE AND THEN DIVIDING BY PIECE OR CUPFUL SO I HAVE THE RIGHT FIGURES WHEN I EAT MY SPECIALS, LIKE POTATO PANCAKES, BUNDIES, AND CHICKEN RICE SOUP.  I AM SURE IT WILL ALL HELP.  I ALREADY HAVE MY LIST OF FOODS MADE FOR TODAY SO I CAN HAVE A STRAWBERRY AND CREAM DESSERT FOR TONITE AND STAY WITHIN THE 1200 CALORIE LIMIT I'VE SET FOR MYSELF.  THAT WAS THE NUMBER I HAD TO USE SOME YEARS AGO TO LOSE A FEW POUNDS.
TODAY IS BINGO NITE.  I HOPE I CAN WIN AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT TONITE.  THE OTHER LADIES NEED A WIN OR TWO SO I DON'T TO WIN  ALL THE MONEY.
I AM OFF TO THE SHOWER.  I'M GETTING A LATE START FOR THAT THIS MORNING.  USUALLY ITS THE FIRST THING I DO WHEN I AWAKE BUT I WANTED TO GET ONLINE AND TAKE THINGS A BIT SLOWER TODAY.
STAY COOL MY FRIENDS.  HUGS, QB S

Holly- forgot to mention that they opened a new Buckeyes in VA right off I-81.  We passed it on our way to and from NY.  It is HUGE….never been there but friends have.
You could make it a “trip” and go to the National Quilt Museum” and Patchwork Plus.    and if you’re ambitious add Charlottesville and Cottonwood quilt shop.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Just wanted to mention that losing weight is not just the number of calories but the quality of the calories consumed.  (And the glycemic index, density and glycemic index load)..

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

I just finished The Final Target by Nora Roberts. So good! In her usual style.

Janet, I don’t drive due to my balance issues and neuropathy, and it would be too far for Ralph. Ed did the driving to Florida and back.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

The intense heat is triggering storms and there’s no rain on my weather app for today. Thunderstorm warnings and lots of lightning. They added the word “dangerous” to heat advisory. It’s really dark now.

I got different shots today at my orthopedic appointment. These are the last shots we can try, then it will be knee replacement. She said I will know in three or four days if they help me. I go back August 12 and I will find out the verdict.!

Janet, I know there’s a lot more to losing weight than counting calories but, that is a good place to start. I have all of those books about the glycemic index, macros. Low carbs,, etc. i’m going to pull those out and start reading them.

We always stop at Buc-ees going to Florida. It’s always a special treat! If I go north, there is one in Adairsville, GA and if I go into Alabama, there’s one in Leeds. They are both about an hour and 15 minutes from me. It was a man in Texas who started this back in the 80s.. his dog’s name was Buck and the owner’s nickname was Beaver. Quite a great concept he came up with! They are famous for their chopped  brisket sandwich. Greg has gotten it, but I haven’t. We normally get nuts, jerky, and snacks and do nature calls! Whatever you want, they have it!

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Yikes, Janet, 10 pounds a big baby!  My babies were rather small; Anthony weighed 5 lb 15 ounces and Aaron born 4 years later weighed in at 6 lb 12 ounces.  Anthony stayed small for many years and then had a growth spurt after his 9th grade year.

There is going to be a Buc-ees going in about an hour from me.  It will be in Mansfield, which is halfway to Columbus.  I have never been to one, but my mom and step dad always stopped at them when they traveled.

Devonne, Dean had the shots for a couple of years before he got  his knees replaced.  They helped at first and then did no good for him.  The replacement changed his life!  It was difficult at first, but he walks so well now.  He has had his for 10 years this year.  You MUST do your physical therapy even if it hurts so you can get the most out of your surgery. My friend would not do it because she said it hurt and she does not do well.  She cannot bend one leg at all and the other one is not so good either.  She uses a walker these days and she is just a month older than me. (70).

Sandra, good luck on the calorie counting, but I would not do 1200 calories.  That seems way too low to be healthy.  I need to do that too, but as long as I feel ok and my lab numbers are good, I am not going to fret about it.  Life is too short to worry about a few pounds.

Another  hot one today and supposed to be the same tomorrow.  Then heavy rain is predicted.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

TWO-HEADED HEADLINES......
1.  LAWYERS GIVE POOR FREE LEGAL ADVICE.
2.  AMERICAN SHIPS HEAD TO LIBYA.

ITS GOING TO BE THE HOTTEST DAY TODAY.  ITS 87 NOW BUT SHOULD REACH 96.  SUNNY AND BRIGHT.  I'LL BET THE BEACH (OCEAN) IS PACKED AND OUR LAKES AROUND US MOBBED.

CHERYL......GOOD FOR DEAN LEARNING GUITAR.  THERE WAS A TIME MOST KIDS WANTED TO PLAY THE GUITAR. I HOPE HE STICKS WITH IT AND ENJOYS HIMSELF.

WHOEVER MENTIONED WASHING THE EYELIDS A COUPLE TIMES A DAY, I THANK YOU.  SINCE DOING THAT, I DON'T GET THE ITCHY EYES THAT I USED TO SO OFTEN.  NOW MY EYELIDS MUST BE CRITTER FREE.
WHEN I WAS 7 I WAS SENT TO ACCORDIAN LESSONS.  YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT POOR KIDS IN MY DAY HAD TO BE INDEPENDANT.  WE WENT EVERYWHERE ALONE WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT BEING KIDNAPPED.  CARRYING THAT ACCORDIAN TO LESSONS WAS DIFFICULT FOR ME EVEN IF IT WAS THE SMALLER VERSION.  I LIVED SEVERAL BLOCKS FROM THE MUSIC SCHOOL.  BUT WHAT STOPPED ME WAS THAT SITTING THERE DOING MY LESSONS EACH NITE PUSHING THAT THING BACK AND FORTH ACROSS MY LEGS WAS PAINFUL.  THEY WERE ALWAYS RED WHEN I WAS DONE.  THEY TELL ME I WAS A GOOD STUDENT, BUT I HAD TO GIVE IT UP.  I COULN'T HANDLE THE PROBS THAT CAME WITH IT.
MOM ORIGINALLY SENT ME BECAUSE MY DECEASED DAD PLAYED THE ACCORDIAN ALL THE TIME.  THERE WERE POLKA PARTIES EVERY WEEK FOR US LITHUANIAN FAMLIES. THAT WAS THE END OF MY MUSIC CAREER.

DON'T YOU HAVE STUCKEY'S IN THE SOUTH?  I REMEMBER THEM BEING ALL ALONG ROUTE 95 IN OUR TRAVELS NORTH AND SOUTH IN THE 70S AND 80S.
I WON $2.75 AT BINGO LAST NITE.  IT WAS A GREAT NITE.  EVERYONE WON AT LEAST ONE GAME.
I PLAN TO MAKE MY PIZZA TONITE.  I WILL ONLY HAVE ONE SLICE FOR A MEAL.  I COUNTED UP ALL THE CALORIES FROM FLOUR TO CHEESE  TO GROUND BEEF TOPPING AND WHEN I DIVIDE BY 8 FOR THE NUMBER OF SLICES, IT COMES TO 300 CALORIES.  I KNOW THERE ARE OTHER NUMBERS TO ALSO WATCH, BUT FOR ME IF I CAN STICK TO THE 1200 LIMIT I SHOULD BE FINE.  I HAVE NO HEALTH ISSUES WHEN IT COMES TO EATING AND NO SIGN OF DIABETES.
TODAY I AM GOING TO ADD AN EXERCISE ROUTINE TO MY DAYS, JUST SITTING AND USING MY 2 LB WEIGHTS.  I THINK THAT MAY HELP AS WELL.  MY ARMS AND LEGS COULD USE SOME EXERCISE.
THAT'S IT LADIES.  I AM OFF TO LAPS AND THEN TO CRAFT MORNING.  I HAVE SOME BINDINGS TO HAND SEW.
KEEP COOL.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Sandra, I only saw a few signs for Stuckey’s. Weren’t they along the route (301 maybe) that was used when 95 was being built? I remember 95 would start and end when it was being built in the 70’s.

And South of the Border signs didn’t start til we were in NC, and it still looks like a dump! Waffle House is still all over, but their food is terrible from our recollection.

it’s going to be 101 for the next few days and feel like 107! Hotter here than Florida!

I made us scrambled eggs and bacon for lunch, I make a burrito of mine. I watch protein and fiber and try to eat smaller servings rather than count calories. I was slacking off on my exercises, so I started them again today.

It’s my week to send bonus gifts! I sent Manda a bird feeder with a solar camera like we have, sent Jules a card game called Red Flags- Amary had it and we were playing it in Florida. Sent Ed a dash camera. He was talking about wanting one, and we have them on the car and truck because people are nuts.

Not sure what dinner will be. Last night he had a craving for cereal, so we both had that.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Cheryl, thank you so much for the encouragement for knee replacement. I have heard nothing but positive comments from those who have had the surgery. I have heard that about the physical therapy. The shot didn't hurt in my right knee, but I could feel it in my left knee, even with her freezing it with the spray. It's because of inflammation. Oh the joys of having osteoarthritis, lol!

Sandra, I'm glad washing your eyelids is helping you. When my eye dr. told me this, I keep the cleaner on my nightstand and cotton pads. I do have to go to the sink to rinse it off.

Cheryl, I am also doing 1,200 calories per day. Can't say I have always been faithful to that and that's why losing weight has been off most of this year, lol. It's what MyFitnessPal recommended for me. It's much higher if you are a man.

Greg has played guitar for years. He loves it. He had an electric and an acoustic (?). Not sure what he has now. He tried to get Carter interested, with no luck. Carter doesn't seem to want to do any hobbies regardless of how much Greg tries to push it. He's more like his mother. He did take him golfing last week and he enjoyed it. Bought him new kids golf clubs. He tries everything, lol.

I called a company about mounting my tvs on the wall. It was crazy expensive...$480! The big expense is hiding the wires in the wall. Greg said that is a $20 part and to wait until his shoulder is better and he can do it for me. I would never let him do this for free...you know me, lol.

I bought this little dog at Ross for Less for $5.99. She was gold so I painted her white and then added the black to look like Gracie. I could tweak it some more, but it's called finished!

I've decided to add her a red tongue and that's it.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Devonne- you might try the Geek Squad at Best Buy for mounting TVs?
Met a friend for lunch at a Mexican place.  They actually have 2 locations.  Not my first choice but we go out together frequently and I always tell her to pick.  It’s 100* so everyone, it seemed, sought cool ac over heat so the place was very crowded.  People were waiting to be seated.  They know us there. We generally sit and chat but this time the waiter asked us if we’d bee much longer ? And if we didn’t want anything else he had the check with him.  Rude, I think.  We had barely finished earring.  I won’t rush back there.  Vacationers ruin the area if you ask me.  There were young men without shirts with girls in swimsuit (no cover ups) but the rush their regulars?
Just got an estimate for a walk in shower…$19,000
Too hot to go in the pool today.  The pool is in full sun until about 5.  Last night we went in and didn’t eat dinner until 8pm.
Picked up berry spinach salads with salmon for dinner.   And bbq pulled pork for the freezer.  This place has great food and I’m glad they’re here.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Super busy here, but I had to post this one to add to the funnies.  Make sure you read to the end. I can not shop at Costco anymore :-)))))Yesterday I was at Costco buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Necco, the Wonder Dog, which weighs 191 lbs. I was in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had an elephant? So because I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and that the way that it works is, to load your jacket pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.)Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care, because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stopped to Pee on a Fire Hydrant and a car hit me,I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Afternoon y'all!

Thanks for the Birthday wishes.  We celebrated on Fathers day so the kids did not have to come here twice.  It was nice.  Hubby and I did go to Schlotzky's, on my birthday.  We each had a free sandwich from our T-mobile Tuesday!

Holly on Friday we were heading towards Nashville, TN.  My nephew was getting married.  Beautiful wedding.  We came home on Sunday. Tired, but relaxed.  Felt good to travel.    They are building a Bu-ees in TN off I-40.  I love Buc-ees.  Bathrooms so clean you can eat off the floor!  So many stalls there's rarely a line!

DS my daylilies have had their best year ever.  Yup due to all that lovely rain that is hiding from us now!

I'm almost done with my quilt, for the retreat.  It's sewn together, I have to sew down the "petals".  It's really cute!  I will post when I can.

The oil company is finally getting it's squeaky wheels moving.  I have paperwork to fill out, and file.  Such fun.  I am so ready to be done with this.  Once this is done, it should be the last thing.  Why this lady could not have given me this paperwork in January is beyond me!

It has been stiflingly hot here.  Heat index in the 100's.  I have gotten my walks in outside, but the rest of my day is indoors.  Today I did pull some weeds while hubby was cutting the lawn.

Too hot to eat a big meal, so we are having grilled cheese with Bacon.

That's everything from my little corner of the world.

Later my Friends!

MALAPROPS.......
1. THE SPECIALIST CHARGED EXUBERANT FEES.
2.  SALARY COMMMISERATES WITH EXPERIENCE.

IT REACHED 96 HERE AND SHOULD BE THE HOTTEST DAY.  TODAY MAY BE 94.  FUNNY, MY SON IS IN FLORIDA AND HIS TEMP AT FT LAUDERDALE WAS ONLY 85.

JANET.......WOW, THAT'S A LOT FOR A SHOWER.  I THOUGHT THEY MUST BE EXPENSIVE WHEN ADS ON TV SAID A THOUSAND DOLLARS OFF.  I AM SURPRISED THAY ARE THAT COSTLY.

DEVONNE......THAT'S A CUTE LITTLE MOLLY.  YOU ARE GOING FULL STEAM AHEAD WITH YOUR PAINTINGS.  GOOD FOR YOU.

CAROL.....LOVED THE FUNNEE.  MADE ME CHUCKLE.

WE LOST POWER LAST NITE FOR A BIT OVER 2 HOURS BUT IT WAS AT NITE SO NO CHANCE TO HEAT UP.  OUR NIGHTS ARE COMFY.
I FOUND THE SCALES I BOUGHT IN THE 90S FROM WEIGHT WATCHERS.  NOW I CAN BETTER WEIGH MY FOODS.  IT HAS A FITTED CUP AND A PLATE TO WEIGH THINGS.
I AM DOING WELL ON KEEPING ON TRACK.  I COUNT EVERY CALORIE AND I EAT SLOWER.  DARN IT, MY FOOD IS COOLING OFF BEFORE I'M THRU.  I AM NOT FOND OF COOL FOODS THAT SHOULD BE SERVED HOT.
I DESIGNED A ONE-PIECE APRON AND THOUGHT I MAY TRY A SAMPLE TODAY.  I EVEN PLAN TO PUT A PHONE POCKET INSIDE THE TOP SINCE I KEEP MINE ON A LANYARD.  IT WILL KEEP IT HANDY BUT SAFELY OUT OF THE WAY.  I THOUGHT I MAY CUT OUT ONE WITH SOME NOT-S0-CUTE FABRIC TODAY IN CASE I MESS UP.  I CAN SPREAD OUT ON A TABLE IN THE COMMON ROOM.  ITS COOL THERE TOO.

THAT'S IT FROM ME LADIES.  STAY COOL.  HUGS QB S

Sandra- it certainly adds up…electrician, plumber, tile guy, demolition guy, materials,  etc…then there’s handles, glass doors, faucets, etc.  🤪.
Oh and they said 3 weeks! But we’re assuming it will take longer.  We will only do one and see what we think of the installers before we commit to the others.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Janet, I would be shopping around for more estimates. The plumbing is already there so it shouldn't be that expensive.

Carol, I read that on Facebook, lol!

This is the purple crepe myrtle . I had to order it from a nursery in Tennessee.

The one in the left corner.

Hydrangea...I have one more on the right, same color. Not doing as good as this one because it gets less sun.

This is a very unusual looking crepe myrtle. The leaves and stem are black. I started to cut it down last year because I planted it in the wrong place. However, it has started growing. Still might cut it down next Spring.

My sky pencil hollys  are doing great. I did have one that died. I'm going to put another hydrangea in that spot.

This 3rd crepe myrtle is in the center of my azaleas. I'll trim it back in the fall so it won't shadow the azaleas too much.

I also have a 4th one that is doing nothing. It's going to be cut down this Fall. Next year I'll replace it with a white one and amend the soil first. I guess I planted it in a bad spot. Probably builder's trash under there, lol.  I wanted to plant a white Natchez crepe myrtle here, but they get 30-50 ft. tall. Why should I care? I won't be around when it reaches that height, lol.

I'm so glad I planned and planted all this 4 years ago, as I certainly could not do it now.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Janet, Heather and Ed took out a garden tub and replaced it with a shower that size a few years ago, and I think it was about 15k then, so the price seems comparable. You could fit several people in it, LOL.

Devonne, I love crepe Myrtle’s, I have two. The deer love them! Mine don’t bloom til August. I felt like we’d gotten to the South when I saw them all over!

It’s going to be 100 here today! Hotter than Florida! I had my Sam’s Club order delivered early, because it had milk in the order.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

Devonne, your Crepe Myrtles are beautiful.  I have never seen one in person and wondered if they would do ok in the NE Ohio area.  Then Holly posted that she had two, so I guess they will grow here.   I need some new plants as mine are getting old and need replaced.  My hydrangeas got hit by frost this spring and I don't think they will bloom.  I have lots of leaves but no flower buds and the old stems are dead I think.  I am afraid to remove them in case they bounce back from the frost.

It is HOT HOT HOT here too.  95 degrees and 102 heat index.  Very humid.  Ohio has cold bitter winters and hot humid summers; not ideal weather for sure.

We have been having easy cool suppers too.  BBQ beef sandwiches and veggies with dip yesterday.  Not sure of what to fix for today.

We removed our large garden tub and had a walk in shower put in it's place.  I love it and now I don't ever use the tub in the master bedroom.  I have never been a "tub" girl as I like showers.  I think it was about 8 or nine years ago and it was almost $10,000 and Dean took out the old tub and all of the tile.  Home renovations are expensive and most of the shows on HGTV and other channels do not tell the real cost of renovations.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

It was 107* today…I don’t even want to know what the heat index was.  It’s 10pm now and 97*.
Devonne- some of the plumbing has to be redone.  Tubs have the drain at one end where as walk-in showers have the drain in the center of the pan.  Most contractors here are not reliable and for the most part are not good.  You wouldn’t even want them to build a dog house.  This area is notorious for  lousy restaurants and lousy contractors.
     Holly- you’re right!

Re: ODT SUNDAY JUNE 28 ~ SAT JULY 4

MIXED METAPHORS......
1.  IT'S EASY AS FALLING OFF A PIECE OF CAKE.
2.  I WAS SO SURPRISED YOU COULD HAVE KNOCKED BE OVER WITH A FENDER.

I'M SO GLAD I DON'T LIVE IN THE SOUTH.  I CAN TAKE A FEW DAYS F 70S BUT NOT MANY.  I PREFER 80S AND 70S FOR MY SUMMERS  SINCE I AM ONE THAT CANNOT TAKE THE HEAT WELL..  TODAY IS 80S THEN DOWN TO THE 70S AGAIN. NITES HIT 70S AND EVEN HIGH 60S.

DEVONNE......LOVE YOUR YARD.  SO MANY LOVELY BLOOMING BUSHES.  ITS COLORFUL AND RESTFUL.

I FINISHED 2 OF MY VICTORIAN LADIES AT LAST, INCLUDING LABELS.  BOTH LADY LILLIAN AND LADY BEATRICE ARE READY TO BE HUNG.  I WILL POST PICS ON MY BLOG SOON.

I HAVE BEEN VERY GOOD ON MY MENU PLAN, COUNTING CALORIES FOR EVERY MEAL.  SO FAR I AM NOT FEELING HUNGRY AT ANY TIME.  I THINK THE EATING SLOWWWWLY HELPS.  I GET THE 'FULL' FEELING BEFORE I'VE FILLED UP MY GUT.
I COOKED CHOCOLATE PUDDING LAST NITE SINCE I HAD MILK I NEED TO USE UP BEFORE DUE DATE.  THE CALS. AREN'T THAT MUCH FOR A SMALL DISH.  AS LONG AS I KEEP AWAY FROM THE WHIPPED CREAM.  THAT WON'T BE ANY EFFORT.

TODAY IS SATURDAY.  I HAVE A COUPLE OF THINGS NEED DOING EVERY SAT. SO GOT STARTED WITH THAT.  SORTED MY WEEKLY PILLS ALREADY. AS FOR COOKING, NOT NEEDED TODAY.  I'LL HAVE A CHEESE SANDWICH FOR LUNCH AND FINISH MY PIZZA FOR SUPPER.   TOMORROW I THINK I WILL MAKE A PORK CHOP WITH SOMETHING.  WILL DEFROST THAT NEXT.
TODAY MEANS READING, WORKING MY PUZZLE AND WHATEVER TAKES MY FANCY.  I'M STAYING INDOORS AND AWAY FROM THE HEAT OF THE DAY.
HAVE A GOOD DAY MY FRIENDS.  HUGS, QB S
