QB, I love when you jog my memories. On the farm, we had a coal furnace in the basement that heated the whole house. I was a skinny, sickly chilly kid who stood on the register alot! I love the forced air gas furnace, we have now, but a coal fire makes for the toastiest heat when you're right over the register. How nice to have your granddaughter all to yourself for a bit.![]()
ML is coming after lunch. We postponed our cleaning til today. I just wasn't up to it, yesterday.
Howard and Albert had a successful trip into Chicago for his hearing test. He'll get the results or the VA will in a letter. I had some leftover eggplant soup that we ate when he got home.
It's alternating between sunny and cloudy here this morning. Still cool out and we're still using our electric blanket at night. It is May 6th, isn't it? Oh well. I need to remember my friend's comment to "enjoy the cool, because when it gets hot, it stays hot" is true, so I'll take this for now.
Andrew is invited to an Indian wedding this weekend. The sister of one of his best h.s. friends will be married in Chicago atthe Drake Hotel, and the reception is at the famous Art Institute the following day, I think? He will wear a suit/tie to one and is required to wear Indian men's formal clothing ??, probably rented, to the other. ML ran into the bride's father yesterday in town and HE has to wear 4 different outfits. He told her he hopes he gets them right. Lots of formal traditions ie, his daughter and his wife were in Chicago getting painted/ or marked? with the henna designs they have to wear. This family owns a cement ready-mix company, but they live a small-town life, not high falutin', so this all is out of their realm. As for our family, we all get to live vicariously thru Andrew's experiences, which is fun and he enjoys sharing with us! He's a foodie so we get details of the foods he chooses to eat. His dad is especially turned off by things like octopus or (raw) sushi so Andrew often sends him a pic of what he's ordered!
Sorry, I got carried away...have to go and do a bit before ML shows up. Have a good day.

My dr. visit went well. She said the reason she didn't call in my bp meds is because I haven't been there in a year. For the last 40 years, I've only went to the doctor once a year?
I should get my A1C number tomorrow.
There's a chance of bad storms tonight, possible tornadoes. We need the rain, not the bad weather.

My back is a lot better finally went back to training today and the coach gave me lots of different exercises to do instead of what she had programmed. She is so good at that, and I am grateful
INDY I am so glad the trip went well, that was along day for you both, but such a great day as well, it will be interesting to hear about the wedding, I have been to Greek and Italian wedding that are absolutely incredible, not an Indian one yet, you never know, the people who have bought the block next door are Indian, or look so anyway, maybe they will become friends!
CHERYL I am glad to hear the treatment is going well and he is OK with it, it will be hard to arrange visits, but it can be done with care, and outside is better that in, I hope you can both enjoy visits that way with family (((hugs)))
SANDRA you have the best memories, did you ever finish those books you were writing, you should if you haven't done so! It will be so interesting for the future generations. W's mother did one for the family, but she was very 'correct' her way of writing, so it was more a history book. Still good to have for the family though.
JANET I hope you had fun at the retreat and got some good things to do from it, mine is in August, so quite a wait!
HOLLY I think I saw a post about birthdays?? It's on the previous page and I will lose everything if I go back, so happy birthday to Manda??
edited sorry, went back and read!!. I knew I'd get it wrong, I still would like to travel, I want to go to Japan, but there are also other places I want to see, I would love to go back to Norway to see the northern lights, and also to Greenand and Iceland. Not sure what my chances are though I'm getting too old!
DEVONNE my Dr wants visits every 3-4 months, I need blood work done anyway then so I get used to it, I am overdue right now, I should have gone already, or had an appt, but everything has been haywire here still!
THERESA nice to have the warm days to keep the house comfy, we have the A/C running for heat right now, really cold today! and the wind early today was vicious, lots of small branches down.
We had a small drain blockage, so have been trying not to use too much water, harder than you think, but we had someone in this afternoon, a quick fix and we are good to go, he's the hubby of one of my training friends, they have a business, the best bit was I saw her and the new bub today, and I got a smile from him, too cute, I do love how the new mums train together and bring the children, so good for them both physically and mentally.
Still having a few dramas with HIS family, honestly, they are really disgusting, one sister "disappointed that her youngest son wasn't invited" - well SHE was supposed to invite him and we can't help that she and he haven't spoken in 3 years, seems to be a habit of hers LOL although I hold the record for that, she hasn't spoken to me in over 30 yrs LOL now they have a problem with one of the nieces who will have a share of the small estate - but - she is of no fixed abode, is a drug addict with alcoholic dementia. That will be interesting! How do they get cash to her, no one has any contact details part from MAYBE a caravan park in Queensland, but when they were contacted declined to give any details and asked for correspondence in writing LOL This will be fun.
David is concerned that the small amount she will get she will use for drugs or drink, W told him they have no control of what anyone does with the money and it will have to go to her regardless. I thought maybe they could give her share direct to rental property if needed, but that is all I can think of.
Such is our life at the moment, seems to be constant phone calls or emails or checking forms, I know how you feel THERESA!
Tomorrow will be washing for me, I need to wash my hair, I couldn't today and I don't want to now, it's too late.
I still haven't got my Alice blocks finished, but I do have a plan, I need to buy some small gifts for my sis's grands tomorrow, we are all finally meeting up on Saturday afternoon, not lunch and not dinner - we are calling it snacks/drinks and chat time, the kids have soccer in the morning and the afternoon time is the only time we could all get free.

Trish- I just realized that I hadn’t said much about my back to crack retreats…I will later or tomorrow.
Power went out about 10pm last night and back on about midnight…probably and accident or tree branches taking down the wires.
We got a credit for the poor Verizon service last week …. A whopping $5! lol
Back from the gym at 7:30 am. Ugh. Expecting a call back from DH’s physician. We left a msg early yesterday morning and was told some one (Dr or PA) would get back to us before the end of the day. I kept both phones nearby all day, got very little done. If I don’t hear by noon, I’ll l
Call again. 😡. I bet we owed them money someone would have called right back.
Judy…I assume you meant Indian, the country, not American Indian. 🤭

Devonne, I think it’s because Medicare will pay for every three months. My new doc agreed to every 6 months.
Lisa the house cleaner just left, so my house is all sparkling!
Manda has been sending us pix of her Italy trip. They just got to Lucca, they have a VRBO apartment there.
Judy, my nephew Kevin was married to a woman from Bangladesh, and he had an Indian wedding. The sari’s were so gorgeous!
Crockpot lasagna was so good! Plenty for tonight, and we froze some.

Yes, Janet.
Asian Indian! So much has been made of calling our indigenous people "Indians" that I hardly think of them as that! I guess these two young people have been together for so long that this wedding is not the novelty it might have been to her family. Maybe I'll find out how they met and what their story is. I'm sure Andrew knows.
Howard went to get his hair cut. He called me afterwards and said some young man paid for his cut along with his own, and the tip. He was more than surprised and pleased. He's finishing up at W-M, as usual. Try as we may, we can't get away from there due to the pharmacy. But the good thing is, he knows where most everything is and is willing to pick up whatever I need. In this case, celery and an onion for the potato salad I will make this afternoon...and a few other things.
Too many other things I would guess...![]()
Trish, glad you back is feeling better. Wouldn't you just know that there would be glitches in the settlement distribution! I can't imagine how or why Warwick's sister would believe she had no responsibility to inform her own son, regardless of their personal issues and then gripe about it ?? I believe YOU could write a book! But maybe anonomously...![]()
QB, glad you broke even at bingo. Better than losing...
Devonne, we only saw our primary doc once a year for a long time. Now we see him twice a year due to various changes in our health. Last time, I called and canceled because "there is nothing wrong with us". I was told that this was a checkup not a sick call, but okay! Duh? Should have known that, so I won't do that again. Actually my thought was that we'd free up an appointment for someone else... as well as save ourselves a trip to the doc's office. of course. ![]()
ML and I got half of my clothes sorted, yesterday. Believe me, there was other "stuff" not in that category to deal with, too. She hauls right off anything I no longer want. I'm sure partly so I won't retrieve anything, however, mostly it stays in her car's rear storage for a bit so I can request anything I want back. She took two new pillows and a twin comforter to her friend, Greta right away, though, and that was fine with me. And, Greta was thrilled (according to ML!)
Next is going through all the 'dead wood' hiding in the closet proper and culling. Isn't that a great but ugly word?
Going to close this. H. should be home anytime. I'd love to just make the potato salad tomorrow morning, but think better of it. It's a big job and what if I don't feel that good in the morning which sometimes happens.

Janet, send it to me and I'll post it for you.
I got my A1C results today. It went down from 6.1 to 5.8, which is great! I don't think it will change when she wants to see me again in 3 months. Judy, I think sometimes they want you to come in more so they can bill Medicare, lol. ![]()
I found a picture I'm going to try to paint. It's past time to try painting again.

Devonne, that is a wonderful drop in your A1C. I cannot get mine down past 6.1 for anything!! My doc (actually a PA) will not refill any of my medications unless I come in every three months. Yes, they are watching me since I am "pre-diabetic" but it is still ridiculous. I think half of the adults in the U. S. are prediabetic by their numbers. I am in rather good health, just high blood pressure, prediabetic and borderline high triglyserides. If I watch my diet, the number is ok. I tried to talk her into 6 months last time, but no go. I agree that it is so Medicare will pay.
It was cool, but pretty today. It makes me want to plant my outdoor flowers, but I know not to do so. It is too soon for my area. Always after Mother's Day and this year maybe later since it has been so chilly. I will not be doing many this year due to the time it will take for Dean's treatment and transplant. I will do a few large pots in the front of the house and along the walkway, but will not plant anything in the back. My hostas are all coming up in the back and I have 3 Rose of Sharon bushes, so that will have to do.
Sandra, I too, have been ordering some foods and having them delivered from Walmart. My coffee pods are cheapest there and that is how I got started. I cannot believe yesterday they delivered just a tube of toothpaste! How can they afford to do that? My wild bird seed was delayed and not sent this trip.

I take meds for cholesterol and thyroid. He writes the scripts for 3 mos at a time with 3 refills. I have UHC Medicare advantage. DH is dr does the same.

IT'S TRUE.......
1. DON'T MESS WITH OLD PEOPLE. WE DIDN'T GET THIS AGE BY BEING STUPID.
2. I AM A MULT-TASKER. I CAN LISTEN, IGNORE, AND FORGET AT THE SAME TIME.
ITS A GORGEOUS DAY OUT THERE. IN THE 60S TODAY AND MAY HIT 70. LOVELY. RAIN COMING TOMORROW.
I HOPE I DIDN'T REPEAT THOSE 2 SAYINGS FROM JUST A WHILE AGO. IT IF DID, I'M SORRY. I BLAME IT ON MY AGE.
JANET.....SORRY I CAN'T POST YOUR PICS ANY LONGER. POSTIMAGES FOULED ME UP AND I WON'T USE THEM ANY LONGER. THE ONLY WAY I CAN POST PICTURES IS THRU MY BLOG THESE DAYS.
THANK YOU DEVONNE, FOR VOLUNTEERING.
MY TARGET ORDER CAME YESTERDAY AND 1 BAG OF CHIPS HAD SPLIT AND SOME CHIPS FELL INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE CARTON. I EMAILED THEM. I TOLD THEM TO CREDIT ME ONLY FOR ONE BAG, BUT I BOUGHT 2 AND THEY ARE GIVING ME CREDIT FOR BOTH. THEY TOLD ME TO KEEP OR TOSS THE BROKEN-BAGGED CHIPS. THIS MORNING I'VE BEEN CUTTING BATTING FOR MY LADIES. SOME LADIES HAVE ALREADY BEEN CHOSEN AND NAMED; LADY AIMEE, LADY GERTRUDE, AND ANOTHER WHO'S UNNAMED AT THIS MOMENT. THIS MORNING SHARON NEXT DOOR CHOSE A PINK LADY SHE NAMED LADY BATHSHEBA......FOR HER BATHROOM YOU SEE. I HAVE LABELS TO MAKE FOR A FEW AND THEY WILL BE FINISHED. OTHERS ARE STILL IN PROGRESS.
SOME OF US HERE HAVE A TASK AHEAD OF US. WE HAVE TONS OF JIGSAW PUZZLES WE'VE ALREADY DONE, ON AND UNDER A CORNER TABLE IN OUR COMMON ROOM. WE WANT TO CONTRIBUTE BACK TO GOODWILL WITH MANY OF THEM BUT WANT TO KEEP SOME FOR OURSELVES TO RE-DO NOW AND THEN. MY TASK IS TO CHOSE WHAT I WANT TO KEEP FOR US OF THE 300-PIECERS. OTHERS WILL CHOOSE THE 500-, 750-, AND A FEW 1000-PIECERS. WE ALSO NEED TO WEED OUT OUR BOOKSHELVES IN THE COMMON ROOM. THOSE BOOKS HAVE SAT THERE FOR YEARS AND NO ONE READS THEM. WE WILL KEEP A FEW AND BRING THE OTHERS TO GOODWILL. NOT ME, BUT ONE OF OUR GALS. PROBABLY SHARON. SHE'S OUR 'MULE' TOTING THINGS TO GOODWILL OR SALVATION ARMY WHEN NOT WANTED.
TODAY IS VEGGIE BEEF SOUP DAY. I HAVE AN ILL LADY DOWN THE HALL SO WILL GET HER MAIL FOR HER AND DELIVER HER SOME SOUP LATER. THE REST I WILL KEEP FOR MY SON AND ME. IF I HAVE ENOUGH, I HAVE 2 OTHERS THAT ALWAYS LIKE THIS SOUP. THERE WILL ALSO BE THE OLD RECIPE TATER TOT SAUSAGE CASSEROLE TO COOK TOMORROW SINCE I DO NOT HAVE ANY FRENCH ONION CHIP DIP TO MAKE THE NEWER MODEL. ITS ALWAYS BEEN ENJOYED SO IT WILL WORK FOR ME AND SON, HIS WIFE AND NAN DOWN THE HALL.
CHORES ARE NOT TOO DIFFICULT TODAY. I SEWED ON BORDERS TO A COUPLE OF LADIES YESTERDAY. I WANT TO DO THE SAME TODAY FOR A FEW THAT WILL GO TO FAMILY.
TAKE CARE LADIES. ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND. I WISH YOU ALL GOOD WEATHER AND RAIN FOR THE AREAS THAT NEED IT.
HUGS FOR YOU ALL, QB S ![]()

Janet, I sent you my email address.
Do any of you wear hearing aids and have any recommendations? I've needed them for awhile, but I don't know if I can get used to them. I've tried about five pairs from Amazon (cheap ones) that were horrible. I don't know if I want the ones that fit over your ear or in your ear. My ears are really small so that will be a big factor in choosing the right ones. I finally have enough money saved to get them at Costco. Amazon also sells the same brands as Costco.

A friend of mine has state of the art hearing aids. They are custom made for fit, I can barely see them (she wears her hair very short) and that’s because I know they’re there. They are Bluetooth, all types of settings, they are integrated to her phone, etc. They are very very expensive and she loves them. Also can filter out other sounds.

Devonne, Ralph and my SIL C both have hearing aids. They went to an audiologist and I think Medicare paid part (he’s sleeping, I can ask in the morning.) He goes back periodically for them to be checked. They have Bluetooth, and he can filter out extraneous noise like in a restaurant. I’ll ask how much he paid.

FRACTURED ENGLISH......
1. THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, IN HAVING FOREIGN AFFAIRS, HAS TO HAVE THE CONSENT OF THE SENATE.
2. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A KING AND A PRESIDENT IS THAT A KING IS THE SON OF HIS FATHER, BUT A PRESIDENT ISN'T.
STARTING OUT NICE BUT MAY RAIN LATER. TEMPS IN THE 50S TODAY.
FOLLOWING IS THE LONG TALE OF MY VENTURE INTO LOSS OF HEARING AND HEARING AIDS. SKIP IF NOT AN INTEREST.
DEVONNE......I HAVE HAD HEARING AIDS SINCE 1994. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THOSE ONLINE AND THOSE FROM AN AUDIOLIGIST, ARE LARGE. THE ONLINE ONES ARE JUST AMPLIFIERS. AN AUDIOLOGIST TESTS YOUR HEARING AND ADJUSTS A HEARING AID TO YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS. THE SMALL IN-THE-EAR AIDS ARE FOR THOSE WITH UP TO MODERATE LOSS, AND OVER-THE-EAR AIDS ARE FOR THOSE WITH PROFOUND LOSS.
WHEN I BOUGHT MY FIRST IN-THE-EAR AID, FOR MY RIGHT EAR, IT COST ME $500. MY LEFT EAR HAD A BIG LOSS SO NEEDED THE OVER-THE-EAR AND THAT ONE WAS $1000. WHEN THEY FINALLY WORE OUT, I WAS UNABLE TO PAY FOR NEW ONES. I NO LONGER WORKED AND MY HUSBAND WAS GONE.
SOCIAL SECURITY DOES NOT PAY FOR THEM. OR THEY DIDN'T WHEN I CHECKED BACK THEN. THEY PAID FOR THE TESTING, BUT NOT THE AID ITSELF, UNLESS YOU HAVE SEPARATE INSURANCE. CHECK OUT WHAT YOU HAVE.
WHEN MINE WORE OUT ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO AN IN-THE-EAR AID COST $3000. THE OVER-THE-EAR A COUPLE THOUSAND MORE SO I COULD NOT AFFORD THEM. I LIVED WITHOUT AND JUST TRIED TO BE CLOSE TO THE TALKER AND HAVE THEM TALK LOUDER AND SLOWER. MY NEIGHBOR GOT HERS A FEW YEARS AGO, IN-THE-EAR STYLE, AND IT COST HER $4000. THEY ARE MORE NOW.
I HAVE BOUGHT THEM ONLINE FOR $99 AND THEY ARE TRASH. MY SON BOUGHT BE A BETTER SET FOR $300, AGAIN ONLINE. STILL TRASH. I WILL STICK WITH MY POCKETALKER AMPLIFIER THAT I GOT FOR UNDER $200. YOU HAVE TO CLIP IT ON YOUR SHIRT OR DRESS COLLAR AND USE HEADPHONES (WHICH GIVE ME A HEADACHE) OR EAR BUDS WHICH I USE. IT SURE BEATS THOSE YOU CAN BUY ONLINE.
I CAN HEAR. AS LONG AS NOT A LOT OF OTHER NOISES AROUND I HEAR CONVERSATIONS WITH ME JUST FINE. IT HAS A VOLUME CONTROL. IT USES TWO AAA BATTERIES ABOUT EVERY 20 DAYS. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MINE ABOUT EVERY 2 YEARS, BUT ITS AFFORDABLE EVEN FOR ME. A SUPREME DIFFERENCE FROM THE HEARING AIDS ONLINE. I KNOW IT WOULD BE BETTER TO HAVE THE GOOD AIDS FROM AN AUDIOLOGIST, BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD AND CAN LIVE WITH. MY LAST POCKETALKER COST UNDER $200. I AM FINE WITH MY SITUATION. I BOUGHT MINE FROM LIBERTY HEALTH SUPPLY ONLINE.
WOW, A WHOLE CHAPTER LADIES. THOSE WITH HEARING PROBS, I HOPE YOU LEARNED SOMETHING.
MY SON SHOPS TODAY. I MADE THE VEGGIE BEEF SOUP AND IT WAS DELISH. SENT SOME TO MY AILING NEIGHBOR. THE REST GOES TO MY SON. I AM GOING TO MAKE THE ORIGINAL TATER TOT SAUSAGE CASSY THIS MORNING. HE CAN TAKE MOST OF THAT HOME WITH HIM AS WELL.
THAT'S IT LADIES. A FEW CHORES TO DO AND THEN THE DAY IS MINE.
STAY SAFE. ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND. HUGS, QB S ![]()

Devonne, at the audiologist the hearing aids were about $1300, and he can have them cleaned for free every so often.

Holly, how long ago did he get that price? I think they start at $1,600 at Costco.
Sandra, we have to get what we can afford. If it works, that's even better!
Here's the email and picture from Janet:
"Here's a picture of a quilt I worked on at retreat. Laid out on my "design floor" lol. About 100 HST!"
