Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

SANDRA I am so sorry about the loss of Tom, he will be missed, and not just by you, will your neighbour keep Oscar? Poor little guy. It's a hard loss for you, You had a lovely dinner with fiends who shared, I am glad you have such a lovely community ((((hugs))))

CHERYL I am very sorry, I did suspect that, and that is why I have to keep having the tests, it does hit fast I hope the injections help, and he doesn't have too many side effects ((((hugs))))

THERESA your shoulder will take time, I hope the tendon hasn't torn, maybe a scan to see if there is underlying damage?? gentle hugs for you, crazy about wanting paperwork now!!

HOLLY yikes, so many fires with batteries as the cause, we have had quite a few in garages where people have left them on, so good you could have it cleared so quickly.

DEVONNE sounds like you are close to finishing your quilt, wet done, hope you can get a picture

JANETR hope you ave a good time at the retreat.

We had a surprise dinner for Gary's 80th last night just the girls and their families and us, he didn't want a big deal, I had no clue what to get him, he is very comfortably settled with no needs, so I bought a nice container, baked some Anzac  cookies and gave it to him, and told him I would refill with other treats when he wants LOL

It was an new Italian restaurant for us, quite expensive, very crowded and we ate quite late, we had to apply for new credit cards (hopefully today they will arrive ) and they used a QR order code at tables, but no card for us, so we had to wait on staff to take our order, I don't think anyone left tips - the service was really really slow, and we had to keep asking for everything. I didn't feel bad, we only tip here for very good service, the wages for staff are very good, and they don't rely on tips, and with  everyone paying with cards, the tips would go into the business anyway, we always keep cash on hand for staff even when paying by card. Not terribly disappointed with the food, but it was overpriced for what it was.

The Mr saw his sis's Dr yesterday with his brother, and they wanted care directive forms signed - again - for the hostel, to make sure that care will be given to her, but no further testing, Dr said her organs are failing, and she seems to not be in pain but they will make sure she is comfortable. They were also testing glucose levels a few times a day, and that will now decrease to once a week, as was done before, as she was getting stressed about the reading, and no point in distressing her further as she has been refusing to eat because her levels were high. She is still getting around with her walking frame, and still seems happy.

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Holly, thanks for wondering about me. I have been reading but just not commenting. I have been rather busy but don’t have much of interest to tell you about.

Last week I contacted a great nephew about doing a few little jobs for me that I am not strong enough or tall enough to do myself. He was here this afternoon and did everything on my list as well as another job that he noticed needed done. Then he sat and chatted with me for a little while. He is such a nice young man!  I knew he wouldn’t want to accept any pay but I bought a Dairy Queen gift card and said for him to take his girlfriend out for a blizzard.

My April calendar is very full.  Besides my regular Monday morning money-counting at church, twice a month quilt guild sew days, and three times a week exercise classes, I have a massage, a hair cut, a Sunday school class party, and a shopping trip with a friend.  I have four medical appointments including a mammogram tomorrow morning and a follow up with my cardiologist in the afternoon. Both are in the same town about 30 miles away.  During the time between appointments I will do a little shopping and have lunch.

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

IRISH BULL.......
1.  I WISH THE ARABS AND THE JEWS WOULD SETTLE THEIR DIFFERENCES LIKE CHRISTIAN GENTLEMEN.
2.  FOOTBALL IS AN INCREDIBLE GAME.  SOMETIMES IT'S SO INCREDIBLE, IT'S UNBELIEVABLE.

ITS A NICE SUNNY DAY IN THE 40S.  WILL BE 50S TOMORROW.  I THINK SPRING MAY BE RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER THOUGH OUR LAST FROST-FREE DAY HAS ALWAYS HIT US AROUND MEMORIAL DAY.
MARYLOU......HOW NICE YOUR NEPHEW COULD HELP YOU OUT.  YOU NEED TO PUT HIM ON YOUR CALL LIST FOR WHEN HE'S NEEDED AGAIN.

THERESA.....IT SEEMS IT NEVER STOPS....THE PAPERWORK.  HANG IN THERE.

CHERYL.....I CONTINUE WITH PRAYERS AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS FOR OUR DEAN.  IT SOUNDS LIKE THE DETERMINATION HAS ITS GOOD POINTS.  HE'S STRONG.  HE'LL GET THRU THIS AND SO WILL YOU.   HUGS.

TRISH......I DON'T KNOW IF JULIE WILL KEEP OSCAR OR NOT.  IT WASN'T HER PLAN.  I WOULD BUT I CAN'T TAKE HIM OUT FOR WALKS AND ITS A LIFETIME COMMITMENT.  WITH MY HEART PROBS, MY DAYS COULD END IN A BLINK SO NO MORE PETS FOR ME.
TOM USED TO BE NEXT DOOR TO ME (I'M ON 2ND FLOOR) BUT MOVED UNDERNEATH ME BECAUSE HE HAD SUCH BAD KNEES AND WHEN POWER IS OUT THE ELEVATOR DOESN'T WORK.  IT WAS BETTER FOR HIM ON THE FIRST FLOOR. NOW THERE IS ONLY ONE GUY IN THE 24 APTS IN THIS BUILDING.

I WENT TO CRAFTS THIS MORNING AND FINISHED HAND-SEWING A BINDING ON A VICTORIAN LADY.  BEFORE I WENT I DID SOME MACHINE-QUILTING ON ANOTHER LADY.  I WANT TO GET THE ONES FOR GIFTS OUT OF THE WAY AS SOON AS I CAN SO I WILL BE MACHINE-QUILTING THOSE.   ONCE YOU COMMIT, ONE HAS TO FOLLOW THRU IN GOOD ORDER.

TODAY I WILL MAKE THE CHICKEN AND RICE SOUP.  I WON'T MAKE A BIG POT SINCE ITS ONLY ME AND MAYBE SOME FOR NAN DOWN THE HALL AND SHARON NEXT DOOR.  TOM WAS ALWAYS ON MY LIST AND HE'S NO LONGER SHARING.  I GUESS I WILL SAVE A BIT OF MONEY NOW, THO I WISH IT WEREN'T SO.  MY SON IS STILL IN THE DOMICAN REPUBLIC SO NONE FOR HIM THIS TIME EITHER.

I AM BACK TO LIMITING MY INTAKE.  I THINK INSTEAD OF SNACKING ON 3 OR 4 THINGS AT NITE, I WILL CHOOSE 1 ITEM AND MY CHEDDAR CHEESE.  THAT WAY LESS CALORIES.  ALSO, BACK TO ONE SANDWICH AT LUNCH.  TODAY IT WAS A HOT DOG, WITH A PICKLE SPEAR AND A FEW CHIPS AND 4 OZ OF SODA.  I ALSO CHEWED THE HOT DOG 25-30 TIMES BEFORE SWALLOWING.  THAT SLOWS DOWN MY MEAL SO I GET THE 'FULL' FEELING SOONER.  IT WORKED.
THAT'S IF FOR ME TODAY.  HUGS FOR YOU ALL. QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Mary Lou, good to see you! My friend Barbara says we have young men in our lives for a reason! They do come in handy.

This morning I cleaned and decluttered around my desk. Recycled a lot of paper, and filled a little trash can. Moved from there to the kitchen cabinet, and have about 10 mugs to donate that we don’t use. So I didn’t get any sewing done, but tomorrow is also a day.

Dinner is leftover meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Today has been a great "accomplished!" day. My Will is done and I picked it up. The quit claim form to remove my sons as Joint Tenants with Right of Survivorship on my house deed is done! Once I can get both sons together to sign and get it notarized, it goes back to the attorney and they will have it recorded with the Clerk's office.

Tomorrow I will be doing house chores, then I will start on a new painting. I'm looking for a design now. I will get the laundry done today and the kitchen cleaned up.

The quilt top is finished. Here's a close up so you can see the colors and how many points I had to match up on this pattern! It's a big top, I think 88".

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Afternoon y'all!

Holly I do have an electric throw, too hot for that!  I do have one of those heating pads that drapes over your shoulders and magnetically clips in front.  I am using that, but once again I am tethered to a cord!

I also have a pillow I bought in Houston, at the last retreat there.  Love the pillow, I put it on my back, by the shoulder, lean back on it and it vibrates, every few minutes it changes the vibration pattern so I get something similar to the TENS, without having to stick the pads on myself.  It does help!

It's a good day with the shoulder.  Wish I could figure out what makes a good day and what doesn't.  It will be a learning curve, for me.  She, the doctor, wants me to take 3 Gabapentin, 3 times a day.  While great in theory, not practical.  2 makes me so sleepy, 3 would knock me out!  I am taking 1, 3 times a day, that's all I can tolerate.  With the Flexeril at bedtime.

I'm not sure what Simba would think he would do if he caught a deer?!?  Kinda like chasing a car, what would a dog do if he caught it?  Thankfully he does not chase cars, he looks at them with a look of stop, I want to go for a car ride! He loves car rides.

Todd had to fix my laptop last night.  I got a virus somehow.  I only click links I am sure of so not sure what I did.  He said I probably ran my mouse over something and it gave me the virus.  As long as he can fix it, life is good!

Were having leftover Gouda bacon mac n cheese.  We love it. Easy to make and is better as a leftover.  Last nights supper was good, salty, we kept getting thirsty, last night.  So yup done with most of the boxed meals like those!

Nothing else exciting from my little corner of the world!

Later my Friends!

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

I like it, Devonne.  For being an older UFO, it's got the classic, always in style, black and white checkerboard look.
You've really 'gone to town' on this.  If you're only piecing the top, will you have it quilted by someone else?

ML just called on her way to town.  She's leaving tomorrow on a 2-day retreat with her Bible study women to Shipshewana, the Amish town.  (Maybe Trish went there once??, or was going to?)  She was trying to pump gas and the pump wouldn't work.  Finally, it DID!  She'll be back Sunday at noon-ish.  Bill is locked into painting  several rooms in the addition to their house they put on when Andrew was a tiny baby. It includes painting the ceilings, crown molding  and some replacement  doors he changed out to match the ones in the original part of the house.  Bill hates painting but he's a machine and once he starts something, he carries on til it's finished.   The color of the ceiling paint they chose is called Soap Opera!

QB, that's where we're at.  Missing our dog so much but knowing another is not a feasible plan at our age.  I've noticed that the commercials have more of  the darlingest dogs in them and makes that desire even stronger, or so it seems...the 'more' part.  Plus I never want to go thru the agony of putting another pet down.  Never, ever...

It's warm and rainy here.  Howard is heading to the highway with the weekly trash.  One thing leaving the premises is a large trash bag ML and have filled during the past weeks.  He just came in to be sure it is something that should go.

Mary Lou, sounds like your catching up with some things that one puts off during the wintertime.  How nice to be able to ask your great nephew for the help you need. And the visiting was a bonus. How is your DIL?  Has she recovered completely?

I've been re-decoring (is that a word?)  the living room.  That is, taking some things away and replacing them with more seasonal decor.  And...I'm paring down.  Using fewer items.  ML will be pleased and I'm tired of the sheer number of things sitting out, everywhere.

And now it's time to get started with supper.  Something with chicken drumsticks.  Have a good evening and Sweet Dreams.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

It’s been a very good day for me. Beautiful weather for my drive to Carbondale, where I had two medical appointments. My mammogram showed normal results and the cardiologist says I am doing very well!  His only concern was that my BP was slightly elevated and said to check it at home several times over the next week to be sure that today’s reading was just due to “white coat syndrome.”

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

YIPPEE!  THEY TELL US IT WILL HIT 6O TODAY.  ITS SUNNY AND BRIGHT.  TOO BAD I HAD TO FUMBLE WITH MY PUTER THIS MORNING AND NOT GET ANY SEWING DONE.  I REALLY NEED TO BUY A NEW ONE BUT I HATE GOING THRU HOOPS AND LEARNING A NEW MACHINE.  UGH!

A 'SERVER' ERROR KNOCKED ME OFF BUT AFTER I SUBMITTED THE FIRST PARA.  GOOD ITS BACK SO SOON.

IT'S TRUE......
1.  I'M A MULTI-TASKER.  I CAN LISTEN, IGNORE AND FORGET ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
2.  I'M NOT LAZY, I JUST ENJOY DOING NOTHING!

DEVONNE.......YOU KEPT RIGHT AT IT AND NOW YOU HAVE A NICE QUILT TOP.  ARE YOU GOING TO SEND IT OUT OR QUILT IT YOURSELF?

MARYLOU......GOOD NEWS ON YOUR MAMMO.  IT ALWAYS MAKES THE DAY DELIGHTFUL WHEN HEARING THAT NEWS.

I HAD PUTER TROUBLE EARLIER.  I HAD TO RESTART MY PUTER.  I REALLY NEED A NEW ONE BUT HATE THE THOUGHT OF LEARNING SOMETHING NEW.  I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THE SLOW AND STICKY MOVES AND RESTARTING OFTEN UNTIL IT JUST STOPS WORKING.  I HAVE THE TIME FOR THE MESS, THO I HATE WASTING IT WHEN I COULD BE SEWING.
TIP:  MACHINE QUILTING STRAIGHT LINES.....I CUT OUT FABRIC STRIPS IN 1, 1.5, 2 AND 2.5 INCHES WIDE, ONE LONG ONE FOR EACH WIDTH.  I LAID ONE ON MY QUILT BLOCK AND STITCHED ALONG ITS EDGE.  I PINNED THE STRIP AGAIN AND AGAIN TO GET THE STRAIGHT LINES.  NO MORE INVISIBLE INK PENS OR THOSE THAT DISAPPEAR WHEN WASHED.  I DON'T HAVE TO CONTEND WITH THAT MESS.  I ALWAYS DISLIKED BOTH METHODS.  I'LL POST A PHOTO ON MY BLOG TODAY.

THAT'S IT LADIES.  LOVELY HERE.  MY SON IS FLYING HOME FROM HIS VACATION TODAY.  I ALWAYS WORRY TIL HE'S SAFELY AT HOME.  HUGS FOR YOU ALL, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Ladies, I sent Marilynn a Christmas card on Dec. 24th, knowing it would be late but the thought was there. It came back to me on April 9th with "address undeliverable." I double checked it against my ODT address list and it was correct. Where has this card been all these months?  I tried to call her, but her voicemail box is full. I left her a text message.

Janet, did you get a welcome home hug and a big sloppy kiss, lol?

Judy/Sandra, I will probably end up quilting it myself by machine. I have started liking 2 and 3 color quilts. I would like to do "something" with the fabric I have, as no one in my family likes to quilt or sew.

Our HOA is in trouble. The President, Vice President and the Secretary all resigned! You can't have an HOA without a Board. A special meeting will be held tomorrow at 4 pm and there will be a vote for any resident to be a member. I don't know residents to vote and I won't be at this meeting. If there is no interest, I hope this means we need to hire a property management co. It will cost more, but would be worth it.

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Judy, you asked about my DIL but you must be thinking of my daughter who had breast cancer. Lynn is doing very well.  She had several months of chemo followed by surgery and radiation. She is still taking some oral meds and having treatment to strengthen her bones that the chemo weakened but those are not causing her any problems. Thankfully her husband is being the kind of husband he always should have been but wasn’t for a long time.

Yay, the astronauts splashed down safely!

Theresa, I forgot about GA being so much warmer now! I’m sitting with my electric throw on and over my shoulders.

The battery Ralph had charging wasn’t a car battery, or a lithium one.

We finished up the meat loaf leftovers for dinner, even good when reheated.

Nothing interesting going on around here.

STUDENTS GET IT WRONG......
1.  THE DIVINE WIND PROTECTED JAPAN BY SINKING THE FLEET OF INVADING MONGRELS.
2.  DURING THE YEARS 1933-38, THERE WERE DOMESTIC PROBLEMS AT HOME AS WELL AS A BROAD.

ITS ANOTHER SUNNY DAY HERE BUT ONLY IN THE 50S LATER.  BUT THE NEXT DAYS WILL BE WARMING AS WELL.  NICE.

HOLLY.......DON'T YOU JUST FEEL SOOO GOOD AFTER A DECLUTTERING AND THINGS ARE IN ORDER?

DEVONNE......THAT XMAS CARD TOOK THE WAGON TRAIN ACROSS COUNTRY AND BACK AGAIN.

MARYLOU.....GREAT NEWS ABOUT YOUR DAU LYNN DOING SO WELL NOW.

MY SON GOT HOME SAFE FROM THE ISLANDS AND LANDED JUST A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE SPLASHDOWN.
WHEN I SAW THE FIRING AROUND THE CAPSULE AS IT WAS ABOUT TO SPLASHDOWN I THOUGHT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, FIRES OR EXPLOSIONS ABOARD.  I WAS HAPPY TO HEAR THEY FIRE JETS TO ALIGN THE CAPSULE PROPERLY FOR LANDING.

WE HAD A FALL HERE YESTERDAY.  A BINGO LADY FELL IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM AND CRACKED HER HEAD.  SHE TAKES COUMADIN SO THERE WAS RED EVERYWHERE.  EMTS GOT HER TO HOSPITAL.  SHE HAD 6 STAPLES IN HER HEAD AND WHEN I WENT DOWN TO TAKE MY LAUNDRY OUT OF THE DRYER, SHE WAS THERE FOLDING HER OWN FROM THE DRYER.  HER SON WAS WITH HER MAKING SURE SHE WAS STEADY BUT SHE'S 85 AND INDEPENDENT.  SHE USES A WALKER SINCE HER STROKE A FEW YEARS AGO BUT SHE WAS FOLDING AND TALKING AS USUAL.  CAN'T KEEP A GOOD WOMAN DOWN.  SHE'S ONE OF THE 3 SANDRA'S NOW IN OUR BUILDING.

ITS A QUIET SATURDAY.  NO SON SHOPPING TODAY.  I SORTED MY PILLS FOR THE WEEK MADE SOME TUNA SALAD LAST NITE FOR TODAY AND WILL HAVE A HOT DOG AND SALAD FOR LUNCH AND THEN TUNA FOR SUPPER.  IT MAY BE STEAK AND MASHED TOMORROW.
UPDATED MY BLOG WITH A PICTURE OF HOW I SPACE MY MACHINE-QUILTING LINES.  ITS SO SIMPLE THIS WAY.

THAT'S IT FOR ME TODAY.  HUGS LADIES.  QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Mary Lou, sorry.  I've kept up with Lynn's progress fairly well, I think, but thanks for telling about her.  I don't keep notes, but I thought you had to postpone your family  Christmas gathering because your DIL was hospitalized  away from home and due to the bad winter weather, David couldn't get to her right away.  Forgive me if that's all wrong.

Howard is prowling around (that term makes him furious)!  He says he lives here!  And he does.  It's just that sometimes he scares me because he appears out of nowhere and I've always been jumpy and easily startled.

QB, glad Matt and Daphne are safely home.  It IS a worry when loved ones are traveling.  We almost missed the splashdown.  First, we were both napping in our recliners.  Then, he got up and knocked something over which woke me up...just a moment before they hit the water.  We watched it for the seemingly endless rest of the process.  Always a relief when they are safe and out of that bobbing capsule.  When we lived in TX, we were about 5 miles from Clear Lake where NASA is.  Used to take any house guests there for the tour if they wished.  And the boys, 8 and 12,  enjoyed going there, too.

Scary about your neighbor and the fall.  Glad she's okay and was mobile so soon.  To me, Sandra isn't that common of a name so 3 in your building is interesting.  I've always liked it.
Have a niece, Sandra who goes by Sandy.

Off to empty the dishwasher and will start supper soon.  Had a sinking spell last evening  and didn't feel like preparing the chicken drums so will bake them tonight.  We ended up with frozen entrees.

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Judy, Manda and Ben lived in Clear Lake and both worked at NASA for Boeing. They had security clearance so we got to go behind the scenes, which was cool. They moved to WA when the Obama administration cut a lot of funding, (meant to be history, not political). They really hated Texas, so we’re glad to move (again, not for political reasons). It was a fun place to visit, and how I got to go to the quilt show and meet Carol.

Ralph is continuing his cleaning, has moved to his bureau. He couldn’t close his tee shirt drawer, but had a drawer of stuff. So he’s relocating (mostly tossing) the stuff, so he can spread out the tees. 95% of which are black with sayings or logos.

I worked on Steph’s apron, it’s ready to have the front and back sewn together. It’s called crisscross apron, and is reversible.

Pizza for dinner, we haven’t had pizza in almost 2 months.

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Judy, you are almost right. We did postpone our Christmas celebration but it was David that was hospitalized while his wife was out of town and couldn’t get home. He is fully recovered now. Thanks for asking.

We are having gorgeous weather!  I spent a little time working in the yard today, pulling back landscaping plastic around some hostas in hopes that they will spread a little this summer. Then I enjoyed some time sitting in the swing that my nephew hung for me the other day.

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Sorry to be absent everyone, things have taken a turn for the worse with sis-IL - she is now on morphine and we are spending as much time as we can with her now. Because of the weekend her dr is not available till tomorrow and we are using the palliative care Dr, he is OK - but they want the wording absolutely correct on all forms, even though they were filled out - again - last Wed. Staff having been coming in and out to hug her and tell her they love her, which has been so special, and they think her Dr will increase the morphine tomorrow.

I will check in later, no idea how long we will be going back and forth, but it doesn't look like much longer, she would be 81 on Wed, I don't think she will make it  though. Poor thing she just doesn't understand what's happening, she wants her legs re-dressed and her hand bandaged, but they won't do any of that now, no more BP etc  checks just making her comfortable. We have spent so long there last couple days I'm not even sure what day it is, Megan and Pete will go back early tomorrow morning and his brother is there now, with their youngest daughter we have been there most of today.
She was so happy to see Pete & Megan today, they have both been visiting, but hadn't seen her since last weekend.

Re: ODT SUNDAY APRIL 5 ~ SAT APRIL 11

Mary Lou, thanks  for the correct info.  Now, wouldn't you know,  I can neither find MY post nor YOUR reply!   But, I did read yours--somehow we're straight on it all now.

That is my life with electronics of any kind.  Always on a wing and a prayer...  In fact, I only got part of my Sunday paper, so I called, got a recording but no human to explain the particulars to.  They're suposed to be bringing another one????    Of course, there is an e-edition, but even Howard couldn't figure that out.  I'm very tired of 'holding my breath' every day re:  whether or not my paper is delivered.  wah, wah, wah...

Trish, even tho you felt this was coming, after so long, it's got to be hard for all of you.  Nice that you're able to pull together and be there for her and for each other.  Hugs and prayers.

ML is on her way home from the retreat.   She's the driver for her friend and roommate, Ruth.  Neither of them slept much the first night, but better the second.  My prediction is that she'll have had a good time but won't go next year.  We two tried it quite a few years ago, not even  rooming together, and both said, never again, even though it was lovely and should have been fun.  I don't know what's wrong with us?

Howard is fiddling with the generator,  Have the sunroom door open and heard him 'hurt' himself.  He said he was okay, but didn't elaborate.  I'm leaving well enough  alone.

Holly, I actually liked TX during the 2 1/2 yrs. we lived there.  Liked the different environment and weather, although we did go thru Hurricane Alicia, with some damage to our property.
ML did not care for it.  She was 19/20 and finishing up her MLT training and was on the verge of coming back up here, when Howard was laid off, again.  He was able to get a job back up here so we all moved back home.  Long story, many memories, some good, some bad...like everything, else.

Cheryl, I continue to think of and pray for you and Dean, each day.  Others, here, too, I know.

It's noon, straight up.  Time to close this, get dressed, and carry on.  Have a good day.
Indy
