Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

It’s that week of the year that I have to keep checking my phone to see which day it is! I also have a Walmart order coming, but not a big one.

We had breakfast tacos for brunch when Ralph got home from having labs drawn. Hidden Valley has a spicy ranch that has a nice kick to it that we use on the tacos, with scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese.

It’s clear, cold and windy, high today 31. Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Heather!

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

I don’t keep a journal…never had.  Personally don’t see the need?
Linda - yes.  The manual was right where I thought but behind 3 heavier totes. DH got it.  It’s now with the machine in the carry case….where it should have been.  My plan is to check out that machine Thursday as I will be busy tomorrow doing “stuff”.
The winds here last night were terrible, but didn’t affect the power lines.
Anyone here have plans for NYs eve.  We are going for an early dinner.  DH rarely stays up.  I usually do.  We don’t watch the NYs programs.  I put it on In time to watch the ball come down.

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

Aaron, Katie and the kids are coming over tomorrow night for our New Year's Eve "party".  Also Gabriel's girlfriend is allowed to come with them this year, so he is happy about that.  We don't do any sort of alcohol and toast the new year with Welch's beverages.  They look like champagne and I have fancy glasses that we all use.  Looks like we are drinking alcohol, but we are not.  Dean and I do not drink alcohol.
We play cards, board games and eat.  I make a lot of snack foods and usually put in a pork roast with sauerkraut. None of the others eat it, just Dean and I.  Oops, sometimes Katie will have a little of it.  So, that is our big plans.

It sprinkled snow all day and we have gotten about 2 inches of fluffy snow on the ground.   I had to go to the grocery store and it was packed! I was glad to get out of the store and get home.

With all of the wind we had the other night, Lake Erie's western shore blew out into the lake.  It was down to the bare rocks, down about 12 feet.  The weatherman said it was a seiche, (pronounced saysh) and Buffalo on the Eastern shore was up by 12 feet!.  We could see the docks and wharf all bare. Weather is certainly weird.

Linda, I am opposite of you in that I am glad the holidays will be over.  Seems like all I do is shop for groceries and cook big meals since Thanksgiving.  After New Year's Day, it will be restful for a while.

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

It's New Years Eve, just gone 8pm, I will be in bed sooner rather than later, I don't stay up, I will probably wake when the little **** across the street sets off his fireworks, they are illegal, but he's got his hands on some, just let off a couple now. He told W he had $600 worth and he was going to let them all off and get drunk - such an outstanding achievement

All the vantage points around the harbour have been full for hours, people go and spend the afternoon there, and they often stay  for both lots of the fireworks, one at 9pm for the kids and families, and the other at midnight. Apparently they will be doing one of the menorah near/on the bridge to acknowledge the recent sh00tings in Bondi, to show support for all those affected.

I did nothing much today, worked on my puzzle, read and looked up the Samsung TV model, saw a few YouTubes on "how to" and hopefully I will have it running in no time, supposed to be delivered tomorrow (NY's Day)

CHERYL I am the same after Christmas, seems like everything is a little flat, I think we do so much prepping that we need to relax,

JANET I am glad you have the manual, I always keep mine in the bag the machine is in, I lost one a while back and ever since then I keep them together.
Good luck using it!

HOLLY I am the same with days this week, having the holiday on Thursday and Friday last week it all blended into the weekend LOL I feel like tomorrow should be Saturday

SANDRA is it Bingo tonight, good luck if it is!

My phone will be on all night near me, just in case John needs us, he is having his friends over and they will no doubt be up till early hours, some will sleep over, Megan told him no one in her room, but other than that they can sleep in his, Dean's or the study and what we have always called the toy room, sort of kids retreat now.
She has a couple pull out beds, and the study and retreat have sofas that will make a bed.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE, wishing good health and good fortune to us all!!

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

Missed here, yesterday.  We went to town to the  bank, then W-M for the usual Rxes and stuff and I returned a candle I'd bought that is too big for my new lamp that melts a candle.  Not sure what they're called.  It was my family grab bag gift.  And I finally got my flu shot.
Then, on to Kohl's for H.'s shoe return and I used my $5 birthday cash toward a fleece vest.  After that, he got  a haircut (I no longer am cutting his hair), then to the butcher shop and, finally HOME.  Oh, and we had late lunch at CFA, so no supper cooking.  We just snacked here and there.  That was a lot of stops for us on one trip to town.

Plan to be home for the next few days.  I always have a rather uneasy feeling on NYE.  It's never a celebration and I'm so glad when it's over.  Silly, I know.  When we were much younger, sometimes our church had a Watch night service starting at 10 and ending when the new year arrived.  We would go and I always was cold, tired, gloomy and almost weepy by the time we got home.  Didn't have enough sense to just skip it and stay home.  Once, we had friends over and it was they who had to leave in the dark and cold.  We stayed in our warm house.  Best NYE ever !    Sometimes someone nearby sets off fireworks which might wake us momentarily but not always and never for long.  Trish, your neighbor sounds like a stellar feller!

ML and Bill were going to invite friends over for what Bill calls New Year's Eve-ish, meaning Amy and Bruce would have left early as none of them would be game for staying up til midnight.  They reconsidered and are just going to be home together now that Andrew and his 'foody tastes' have gone back to Chicago.    They're back to eating plainer food and their stomachs thank them!

Think we'll have hamburgers tonight and pork country ribs tomorrow although we're not into the pork for new year's tradition.  It's just happens to be one of the meats I bought yesterday.    Have a good day/NYE and a most Happy New Year!

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

It’s just another New Years Eve, to quote Barry. It’s sunny and 32, chance of a dusting of snow tonight.

I went thru my 2025 planner and made a list of what I made this year. I used 20 pounds of yarn! I had forgotten a lot of what I made.

Anyone have the stripology ruler for cutting strips? I’m considering one.

Ralph was watching videos, and saw one where a SWAT team was staked out in tall grass, laying in it. A cat came along and curled up on one guy’s back!I could just picture it.

I’m thinking chicken enchiladas for dinner.

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

It's busy here, which is good to see!

Emily got me a 2026 journal. I have about 5 of them, but not a 2026 one. I normally get the smaller ones and write the year on the front. I like journals, but I forget to write in them every day or every week. It's nice to go back and see "oh, that's when he graduated?", etc. Greg has asked me all kinds of questions about when his Dad died. I wouldn't know the answers if they weren't in the 2019 journal.

No big plans for tonight. I am dreading the fireworks for Gracie so will turn up the tv. I do not like giving her benadryl. Hopefully, since it's so cold, it won't last long.

Finally got my Christmas decorations all put up except the two trees on the hearth. They fit perfectly in the foyer closet.

I have collard greens in the crock pot. I meant to put them in the instant pot, lol. I haven't bought them in many years...always buy kale. Looks like a new year's southern meal for me, with cornbread and buttermilk too, lol.  Pork chops, but no black eyed peas.

I don't believe in any of these traditions, pork just what goes good with greens. Collard greens gives you wealth because they're the color of money. Black eyed peas are supposed to represent pennies or coins for good luck and prosperity and cornbread (gold) represents wealth. These traditions have been around forever and so many people believe and follow them. I'm not one of them, lol.  I just have buttermilk going out of date, lol.

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

Afternoon ladies!

Working on Christmas decor.  Got the outside done before the frigid cold hit!

We have bins up and I will take down a bit at a time.  Watching lots of football.  Is it baseball season yet?

I had put lots of Luke's Legos in a bin, went to the trouble to put them into individual baggies.  I am not putting them back out!  I can put my stuff out.  It's my house, not his!  He was not happy about it, but I didn't have room to put out Christmas unless I did this.

He made it back to Vicksburg, without any problem.  He is off today and is taking down his Christmas.  Wish mine was as easy as his.

Nothing much going on.  That's all from my little corner of the world!

Later my Friends!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

Holly, I have two rulers for cutting strips and love them. The first one I got was a June Taylor. It is sort of flimsy but very usable. Later I got a Stripology. It is heavier and has more marks so I like it better for those reasons. But it isn’t quite as big as I would like it to be. I usually fold fabric with the folded edge even with the selvage and the ruler isn’t large enough to cut all the way across. I think it comes in different sizes so be sure to consider how you expect to use one before you purchase.

It will be a quiet NYE for me. I will probably be in bed long before midnight but possibly still awake reading like I often do. Not sure what I will eat tomorrow. My family tradition is white beans and yeast rolls - I had that almost every NY at Grandma’s house when growing up, celebrating an uncle’s birthday.

Lynn and Bill will be here Sunday - Thursday. We will celebrate Christmas on Monday; Tuesday she is taking me to have my cardiac ablation done; Wednesday I will be recovering and she will probably find some things to do that I can’t do by myself.  January is full of health appointments for me … a follow up with cardiologist two weeks after ablation, dentist checkup and appointment with optometrist.  Hopefully no further appointments will be necessary with any of those but cataract surgery may be needed.

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

Dinner was very good.  I had Rib eye steak for the first time in years.  We don’t eat beef….so it was a treat. DH had chicken Marsala…I don’t do mushrooms but he enjoyed it.
I was thinking about a journal today and thought if I had kept one this year (which I never have) it would be so negative I would be burning it tonight.  This has been the year from hell and I’m not expecting 2026 to be much better.
    Happy New Year to everyone.

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

LOST IN THE TRANSLATION.......
1.  WHEN PEPSI-COLA INVADED THE HUGE CHINESE MARKET, THE PRODUCT'S SLOGAN, "COME ALIVE WITH THE PEPSI GENERATION," WAS RENDERED (OR SHOULD I SAY RENT?) INTO CHINESE AS "PEPSI BRINGS BACK YOUR DEAD ANCESTORS!"

WE GOT A DUSTING OF SNOW.  I AM STAYING INDOORS SO ITS OK WITH ME.
I SPENT THE EARLY HOURS MARKING MY NEW CALENDAR FOR THE YEAR WITH BIRTHDAYS, ANNIVERSARIES AND SUCHLIKE.  ALSO MY COMING DR APPTS.  I DOUBLE-CHECKED WITH MY DATE DIARY TO BE SURE ITS ALL OKAY.  LOOKS FINE NOW.

I HAVE CHICKEN BREAST IN THE TOASTER OVEN.  SOME FOR ME WITH MASHED TODAY FOR BRUNCH AND THEN TOMORROW FOR THE CHICKEN RICE SOUP I PLAN TO MAKE.  ITS SHOPPING WEEKEND SO MY SON COMES AND LOVES THAT SOUP.

I STILL HAVE XMAS LIGHTS TO TAKE DOWN AND THEN ITS A MATTER OF PACKING EVERYTHING AWAY FOR THE NEXT YEAR.  I THINK I WILL ENJOY THE LIGHTS ONE MORE DAY.  I WILL PACK UP TOMORROW.
ITS CRAFT MORNING BUT I'VE BEEN TOO BUSY SO HAVEN'T GONE TODAY.
I WON $5 AT BINGO LAST NITE AND THEN A NEIGHBOR'S SON SENT SOME BOTTLES OF SPARKLING GRAPE JUICE AND 3 CAKES FOR THE BINGO GALS TO CELEBRATE THE NEW YEAR.  I HAD A NICE PIECE OF CHOCOLATE CAKE AND KNOW I MUST HAVE GAINED A LB OR TWO YESTERDAY.
THEN IT WAS WATCHING TV.
THERE WAS A ROY ROGERS MARATHON ON SO I MADE SURE TO RECORD THOSE.  I LOVE THOSE OLD MOVIES.  ESPECIALLY HIS HORSE TRIGGER.  ALSO THE SONG, "DON'T FENCE ME IN" IS A FAVORITE AND THAT TITLED MOVIE IS AMONG THE MARATHON.  I SING ALONG WITH IT SINCE ITS CLOSE-CAPTIONED.
ALSO TODAY THEY ARE SHOWING SOME OF THE "THIN MAN" SERIES WITH WILLIAM POWELL AND MYRNA LOY.  ANOTHER FAVORITE SERIES FOR ME.
LAST NITE I HAD A GLASS OF RED WINE AND FELL ASLEEP BY 12:30 A.M. AND WOKE AT 5 FOR MY PILLS, THEN ASLEEP AGAIN TIL 9.  SO I GOT SOME GOOD REST.  I'M SURE IT WAS THE WINE SINCE I RARELY PARTAKE OF ANY SPIRITS.
OH GEE, ITS RAINING IN PASADENA FOR THE ROSE PARADE.  TOO BAD.  SO MANY ARE IN CLEAR RAIN SLICKERS TODAY.  AND THE RAIN IS WASHING OFF SOME OF THE FLOAT DECOR.
THAT'S IF FOR NEWS FROM ME TODAY.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.  WISHING YOU ALL A GOOD YEAR.
STAY SAFE, ENJOY YOUR DAY AND HUGS FOR YOU ALL

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

Happy New Year, everyone.

I do have some new year resolutions that I can keep, lol.

1. Visit my family more in 2026.
2. Let the house go. Enjoy life. Who cares if the bookcase isn't dusted?
3. Keep up with my 2026 journal.
4. Continue with intermittent fasting and eating better.

I had a big grocery order yesterday. Getting ready to re-organize my fridge. I never have enough room for produce.

Re: 28 SUNDAY 28 DEC 2025 ~ SAT JAN 3 2026

Happy New Year!
In local news, 2 days ago a wallaby was seen hopping around the Walmart parking lot! Turns out he went on walkabout from a local petting zoo. After hours with drones and searchers, he was captured and went home to his petting zoo.

I don’t have resolutions as such. I want to continue my weight loss project with calorie deficit and exercise, and increase my treadmill time. I have a list of crafting goals that I wrote in the crafting journal.

Thanks, Mary Lou for sharing about the quilting ruler. I just ordered the biggest stripology ruler, it was on sale and I got free shipping. The price was kind of an ouch, but I only have to buy it once.

We just shared the last bowl of the Olive Garden chicken and gnocchi soup for lunch, so good! Leftover chicken enchiladas will be dinner.

We got snow them morning, a good dusting. Now it’s 29 and partly sunny. I stayed up til 2, til the fireworks idiots we’re done, so slept til 10.
