FROM READER'S DIGEST....LIFE IN THESE UNITED STATES....
1. A MAN INVITES A WOMAN OVER TO HIS HOME FOR A SEVEN-COURSE MEAL.
"I'D LOVE TO," SHE SAYS. "WHAT ARE YOU HAVING?"
"HE RESPONDS, "A HOT DOG AND A SIX-PACK OF BEER."
ITS COLD AND SUNNY HERE TODAY WE ARE HAVING OUR XMAS TAPAS PARTY TONITE WITH A GIFT EXCHANGE.
GOLLY DARN GEE....YOU MEAN I MESSED UP WITH MY COMMENTS???? HOW COULD AN OLD LADY LIKE ME DO THAT?
ANYWAY, SORRY LADIES. IT HAPPENS SOMETIMES. I JOT DOWN NOTES AS I READ AND THEN SOMETIMES I PUT THE WRONG NAME BESIDE THEM.
TO MARYLOU......GOOD LUCK ON YOUR ABLATION IN JANUARY. WITH THE NEW TECHNIQUES ITS AMAZING WHAT DOCTORS CAN ACCOMPLISH FOR US.
AND THERESA......ON THE NEW LAPTOP. YIPPEE. MY PRESENT ONE IS A LENOVO AND I LOVED IT FOR THE FEW YEARS I'VE HAD IT, BUT ITS SLOW MOVING MOST OF THE TIME THIS LAST YEAR. IF I LEAVE THE LAPTOP ON AND OPEN AND JUST CLICK THE MINUS SIGN TO REDUCE MY E-MAIL SITE, WHEN I COME THE NEXT MORNING I CAN CLICK ON MY PUTER AND WITH ANOTHER CLICK ON MICROSOFT EDGE ICON I CAN GET MY EMAIL TO OPEN IN ABOUT 3-4 MINUTES. MUCH LESS TIME THAN WHEN I SHUT IT DOWN COMPLETELY. I NEVER DO THAT UNLESS IT FREEZES UP AND I HAVE TO START FROM OFF ALL OVER AGAIN. I JUST LEAVE IT ON 24-7. I HAVE LEARNED THAT I NEED TO GIVE HER TIME TO GET STARTED IN THE BEGINNING THOUGH, THEN ITS SMOOTH SAILING. SHE NEEDS WARMING UP LIKE I DO.
I MADE A GREAT BATCH OF HERSHEY'S OLD-FASHIONED CHOCOLATE FUDGE YESTERDAY. ITS SO SMOOTH. I ONLY TASTED THE CHOC COOKED ON THE PAN, BUT ITS NOW CUT NICELY AND PACKED AWAY FOR MY KIDS. TODAY I MADE ANOTHER BATCH OF PEANUT BUTTER BALLS. THEY ARE SITTING IN THE FRIDGE CHILLING RIGHT NOW. I WILL DIP THEM WHEN I AM DONE HERE.
TAPAS NITE TONITE SO I HAVE MY PIGS IN A BLANKET TO MAKE AFTER 4. THEY DON'T TAKE ANY TIME AT ALL.
TONITE WHEN I COME HOME I WILL MAKE A POT OF CHICKEN RICE SOUP SO MY SON CAN HAVE SOME TO TAKE HOME TOMORROW. HE WILL BE STOPPING IN FOR GOODIES AND TO PICK UP THE SWEATHER I FIXED. NO SHOPPING TIL NEXT WEEK.
YES, I'VE BEEN BUSY. IN THE EVENING I AM POOPED. TIME THEN TO READ AND WATCH TV AND MOVE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. LOL
TAKE CARE MY FRIENDS. BE SAFE. HUGS, QB S ![]()

Afternoon y'all! ![]()
![]()
Quiet here today! ![]()
I got a bunch of gifts wrapped yesterday. More to wrap. ![]()
Hubby got more of the outside lights done today. Still more strings to put out! Some are what I call half strings. The first half lights up but the second half does not. They string together just fine! Hate to throw it out, so it goes outside on the bushes. ![]()
It's warmer here today. I'm washing 2 quilts, so they can go outside to dry. Will be a tad cooler tomorrow, a whopping one degree! So I can get other stuff washed and outside to dry!![]()
Still trying to get the name plate ordered for my mom. I called again today, and was put off, but was told if I don't hear back in the next hour, to call back. She did have an upcoming appointment, so cutting her some slack. I'm trying to be nice, but this is inexcusable! I have received nothing to even make a decision to order, total dead air from them. Everything was pre-paid back in 2010. I think they don't want to spend the money because it probably costs them more now! I have done everything except show up on their doorstep. If it comes to that, they will not be happy! I am trying hard to not be rude, or aggressive, but they have tried my patience. It's been since August!![]()
Going to head out and see what I can do with the outside Christmas lights before it gets really cold outside! If the wind was not blowing it would be awesome outside! ![]()
I know you just can't make me happy! LOL! ![]()
That's it from my little corner of the world! ![]()
Later my Friends! ![]()

It's unusual to be 63 in December, today and tomorrow, but Sunday brings back the colder weather.
I'm headed to Dollar General to look for some ink pens. I saw a pen they have that starts with the name "Mary ??" that got good reviews. The Zebra pens also got good reviews. I can't seem to keep up with pens. Maybe I need to quit giving them away, lol. ![]()
Carol and Sandra, thanks for the Christmas cards! They will go on my mantel.

Okay, ladies, now I know what's wrong with MY computer -- it's been hanging out with yours! Glen told me he will buy me a new desktop for Christmas. I get such practical gifts: a chainsaw, an iron, and now a computer.
Anyway, I cannot type on this thing without it stopping in the middle of every word, so it's hard to let you know what's going on. Please know that I am reading most days and saying prayers and adding thoughts for you as I see the need.

Theresa and Carol- thank you for the lovely cards. Merry Christmas.🎄

Carol, I had to laugh about the chainsaw. I hope it's like the 6" one I bought and has a lithium battery, lol.
Congrats on getting a new computer. Part of my family is in Texas at a baseball tournament. They sent pictures of being at the Fort Worth Stockyards, whatever that is.
I decided not to get the new dryer. It was a fantastic deal, an LG, but I want one that is ALL white. I didn't like the black "tire" around the door. Greg said, "Mom??" Lol.
I spoke to an agent and he said the white ones only come with the black rim. Yuck, lol.
My trip to Dollar General was a bust. They didn't have any of the pens that the internet said they had.
ETA: I just got a text from Gary. Emily fell at the ballpark and was knocked unconscious. He hasn't seen her since they got to the hospital. I don't know what time this happened or any more details.

Good evening All! This is Rhonda, here to give you a bit more to today's story:
Yesterday we were under evacuation orders as there are several rivers flooding in the area. We are actually in a high spot so ultimately safe without evacuating. However, it was touch & go there for awhile.
I had a bag packed for them and the plan in place to get them dressed, out of the house & into the truck. It was 1am when the river crested and by 3a I could tell it wasn't rising behind the house anymore. So I could go to bed.
There are areas in the downtown that DID get evacuated by the National Guard early this morning. We are outside Burlington, WA city limits, if anyone has seen the news. Hwy. 20 is the main road our little dead end road runs from.
There could be more flooding on the way but all in all we are safe & dry. Tracy should be able to get here tomorrow and we'll tag out & I will go home. Where I live there was no danger of flooding...it's the getting there that can be the problem.
Merry Christmas! Rhonda
(P.S. I did figure the phone issue out lol)

Sandra, that Hershey's fudge is so good! I have tried a two ingredient one (sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips) but we did not care for it. We like "real" fudge here. Devonne, sounds like the fudge recipes you watched were similar to the two ingredient ones. They are sweet, but not real fudge. ![]()
I went to Dollar Tree today. Their prices sure have gone up. I was looking for different types of candy for the teen's Christmas stockings. I did find some things, but most likely will go to Walgreens or CVS. They have lots of candy bars and treats near the check out areas. I know the parents love when I give the kids lots of candy. ![]()
I also give some savory ones, like a good beef jerky or various nuts.
Devonne, your new Air Fryer looks awesome! Is it very wide? It looks pretty big. I don't think I have enough counter space for that one.
The Christmas band concert at the high school was fun! They have a new, young director and she is doing a great job. Dean was actually her soccer coach many years ago. She graduated with Aaron. The music was "Christmas tunes" mixed with classical. One was called Cowboy Christmas and it sounded like an old western movie music. Complete with a horse whiney at the end.
It was a lovely blue sky today and sort of warm, about 28 degrees. However, we are supposed to get a clipper coming in on Saturday evening and expect 4-6 inches of snow. I did my grocery s hopping today, so I am all set.
Sigh...still no Christmas decoration up at this house. I keep looking, but the elf has not shown up.![]()

FROM READER'S DIGEST.....LIFE IN THESE UNITED STATES.....
1. "WHEN I WAS YOUNG," A MAN TOLD A NEW ACQUAINTANCE, "I DREAMED THAT BY THE TIME I'D TURNED 35, I'D HAVE A STABLE FULL OF HORSES, A BIG CAR AND A VACATION HOME IN ASPEN."
THE ACQUAINTANCE ASKED, "HAVE YOUR DREAMS BEEN FULFILLED?"
"JUST ONE," SAID THE MAN. "I TURNED 35."
ANOTHER COLD AND WINDY DAY. IT WAS SO WINDY YESTERDAY WHEN I TOOK OUT MY TRASH I COULD FEEL IT IN MY BONES.
THERESA.......MY MOTHER PRE-PAID FOR HER OWN FUNERAL. WHEN SHE DIED AT 85 THE FUNERAL HOME HONORED HER EVERY REQUEST, EVEN THO HER PAYMENTS WAS NOT NEARLY ENOUGH FOR THE THEN CURRENT COST OF HER FUNERAL. THEY HAD PUT HER FUNDS IN AN ESCROW ACCOUNT I THINK IT WAS. ANYWAY, THEY WERE A POPULAR FUNERAL FAMILY AND MY MOM WOULD HAVE BEEN PLEASED. NO PROBS WHEN I TOLD THEM I KNEW WHAT SHE WANTED AS FAR AS HER CASKET WAS CONCERNED. SHE WAS ADAMANT SHE DID NOT WANT A NARROW ONE WHERE THE PERSON WAS SOMETIMES LAID ON THEIR SIDE TO ACCOMODATE THEIR GIRTH. I CHOSE A GOOD QUALITY FINAL RESTING PLACE FOR HER. I WAS LUCKY I GUESS.
CHERYL......MY FAMILY LOVES THE HOMEMADE FUDGE COOKED TO THE SOFT-BALL STAGE IN BOTH CHOC AND PEANUT BUTTER. THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT CONSISTENCY AND FLAVOR. I WILL MAKE THEM AS LONG AS I CAN FOR THE HOLIDAYS.
BJ.....TRACY SENT ME A PICTURE OF YOU IN YOUR QUILT STUDIO WHERE YOU WERE DECORATING SWEATERS WITH XMAS THEMES. YOU ARE LOOKING GOOD. I AM AMAZED YOU CONTINUE TO USE MAKEUP. IT MUST GET TIRING BUT IT DOES A GOOD JOB BECAUSE YOU ARE LOOKING GOOD.
GLAD TO HEAR, TOO, THAT THE FLOODING PASSED YOU BY AND YOU WERE ALL SAFE INCLUDING YOUR FAMILY. HUGS FOR YOU ALL.
CAROL......SORRY YOU ARE HAVING PUTER ISSUES. ITS A GOOD THING I AM NOT IN A HURRY MOST DAYS OR I WOULD JUST SKIP DOING ANYTHING ON MY LENOVO. BUT I CONTINUE TO KEEP IT BECAUSE I HATE GETTING ANYTHING NEW THAT I HAVE TO RE-LEARN ALL THE FEATURES. MY BRAIN ISN'T UP TO FIGURING OUT THINGS AS EASILY THESE DAYS.
WELL, THE TAPAS XMAS PARTY WENT OFF JUST FINE. WE HAD LOTS OF CHOICES TO NIBBLE ON AND MY PIGS IN A BLANKET WENT WELL. LOTS OF SWEETS AFTERWARDS, TOO.
I AND MY GAME PARTNER KATHY CAME IN 2ND IN BOTH FUN GAMES. I TOOK HOME A BAG OF PEPPERMINT BARK. I GAVE THE RELIGIOUS BOOK TO MY PARTNER SINCE SHE IS MORE INTO THAT, GOING TO BIBLE CLASS EVERY WEEK. IT WAS A FUN TIME.
I GOT A SMALL FOOD CHOPPER FOR MY GIFT SWAP. IT WILL BE GREAT FOR ONIONS, GARLIC, CELERY AND EVEN NUTS. WILL SAVE ME SOME TIME PREPPING MEALS.
LAST NITE AFTER THE PARTY I MADE A POT OF CHICKEN RICE SOUP. MY SON COMES TO VISIT TODAY AND I WANT HIM TO TAKE HOME SOME ALONG WITH ALL HIS GOODIES.
DID MY LAPS, PUT BACK MY JIGSAW PUZZLE ON ITS TABLE FOR PLAYING, WASHED LAST NITE'S DISHES, CLEANED MY BATHROOM AND SORTED MY PILLS FOR THE WEEK. ITS NICE TO GET THOSE OUT OF THE WAY. NOW I CAN RELAX.
TRACY SENT ME A PICTURE OF BJ WITH HER LATEST DECORATING PROJECT WHICH I WILL POST ON MY BLOG LATER. I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN TO CHECK IT OUT. I HAD TO ASK HER PERMISSION FIRST. I AM NOT USING POSTIMAGES ANYMORE.
THAT'S IT LADIES. I HAVE TO REST A BIT BEFORE MY SON ARRIVES. STAY SAFE. ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS. HUGS FOR YOU ALL, QB S ![]()
CHECK OUT MY QUILTCRAFTER BLOG FOR THE LATEST PHOTO OF OUR DEAR BJ.

This day is flying--after noon already. Have been busy the past few days, but we plan to stay home now for a few. Supposed to drop into the single digits tonight and tomorrow and feel like below 0. We were signed up to go to the Pines (where Mom lived for 4 yrs. for lunch and a tour tomorrow but I called and canceled. I could give my own Pines tour after tramping around there for those 4 years and I'd have to take the walker which means Howard would have to wrangle it in -0 temps, so we bowed out. One of my favorite sayings is J O M O , the joy of missing out!
ML treated me to an early birthday lunch on Thurs. The Christmas pile up has always affected the celebration of my b.d. as it only gets more frenetic the closer you get. We had a lovely lunch at a place called Cherries and Berries--huge breakfasts or lunches, truly enough for another whole meal to take home. Then, we visited our Aunt Betty who turned 100 in November. We opted to wait past her birthday weekend when we knew she'd be overwhelmed with company. We took her some Belgian chocolates and spent 2 hours with her.
Yesterday, was W-M day, then to another grocery for additional things and then home to collapse for the evening. ![]()
Beautiful pic of BJ. Thanks, QB. All your goodies and foods sound good, as always. I agree, there's nothing like old-fashioned fudge. I don't know how you have the strength to beat it!
Thanks for your card, Carol. ML was here when I opened it and she asked if this is one of my friends. Oh, yes! I said, and told her you live in Houston. She was with us the whole time for the short time we lived in TX.
Theresa, congrats on your new "baby" (to go along with your canine baby!) Old, pokey computers are aggravating. I'd never heard of that brand. You have your in-house computer expert to set you up. ![]()
Better get off here and get some lunch. Supper will be salmon in the oven. There's a pretty little house finch out here on the railing and a couple of titmice (mouses?) and I just saw a coal black squirrel running across the snow. Still hard to believe it's full winter, snowing again. We so often have mild Decembers.

Tracy and Rhonda take such good care of BJ and Frank!
Manda is outside the evacuation zone. She sent me pix of a bridge in Snohomish that I’ve been over. The water is almost up to the bridge! Steph and Dan were supposed to go to Seattle then Leavenworth, but roads are washed out! What a mess!
We’re getting somewhere between a dusting and a blizzard starting late tonight.
I’m working on Manda’s family’s bowl cozies. I just have to sew the pieces together, flip, and topstitch. Tomorrow’s task. After that will be Steph’s tree skirt, which will most likely not get completed before Christmas.

Rhonda, I saw on the news about the Snohomish River but I didn't connect it to your area. Thank you for the update.
Emily is fine. After the CT scan nothing was damaged so Ace bandage and pain meds. She said she felt like "h---" today. She fell backwards off a ledge and hit concrete below. I told her that fall could have been a lot worse.
It's 67 right now, but I just got a cold weather advisory from Alexa. This warm weather will be gone soon!
There is nothing better than the old fashioned way of making fudge. I don't use a candy thermometer...I do the drop in water ball stage thing. I do like using marshmallow creme for my peanut butter fudge.

Devonne, I use the water and drop method also as that is how my mom showed me. We did not use a thermometer back then either. We also use the marshmallow cream in the peanut butter fudge. I have tried recipes without it and they just don't turn out for me. I am not a great candy maker. My mom made divinity, peanut brittle, hand pulled taffy and fudge every Christmas. We had such fun times making those things. And also, hand made hard candy. We did not do the pour and crack way, we actually pulled little balls of that hot liquid candy and rolled it into little discs. Then rolled in confectioners sugar so they did not stick together. We made all sorts of flavors using candy oils. It had to be done fast as the cany set quickly. Oh the memories of that time.
It is snowing like crazy out and the roads are very slick. Dean is at the YMCA working out, but he took his truck, so he will be fine. I was going to go get some fresh veggies for a dip I made, but will stick to the carrots and cucumber that I have for today.
BJ, hope all is well for you still. That must have been a scary night waiting to see if you had to evacuate. Flooding is awful.
I made some taco meat and plan to make taco salad for supper tonight. I looked up a "copy kat" recipe for Taco bell meat sauce and tried that. It sort of tastes like Taco Bell, but not exactly, but we will eat it.
Off to start my new jigsaw puzzle. I ordered three from Bits and Pieces and they came in two days.
