Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

Happy Sunday everyone!!

Ours is almost over, it's been a nice day, took myself to the movies, saw The Roses, quite a lot of bad language, I did tune that out and just enjoyed Olivia Coleman and Benedict Cumberbatch - because of the language I wouldn't recommend it, sad about that. The scenery was beautiful, in California, forget the name, but certainly looks scenic.

SANDRA I do hope you feel OK today, you might have some sore spots, be gentle with yourself, and get help if you need anything ((((hugs)))) I fell last week doing our bedroom, have a bruise on my hip - but luckily didn't do any damage.

HOLLY our petrol (gas) is really expensive, almost $2 per litre, (4 litres to a gallon) and we pump our own, almost everywhere is like that, except for very small country towns. I miss the old days they would clean your windows as well!

DEVONNE hope you could get the last of the caulk done, it's a big job!

I finished the last of my 80 blocks tonight, - NOW I find the easiest way for them to go together would be if the seams were pressed the other way so back to the ironing, at least they are all done.

We had the preliminary finals for our football just finished, Gary will be unhappy, his team lost, first time for 3 years they haven't made the final, W had it on while I was ironing, and he turned off for the last few minutes when the other team scored a goal.

I have slept better last few nights, hopefully will again tonight, new mattress and moving the bed around seems to have made a difference - before my 'side' was more in the corner, now it's nearer the  door  so feels more open.

So many errors I have fixed, my nails are too long for this keyboard! Need to get them done tomorrow, they girls will shorten them.

If I wake up in the early hours I need to check in for our cruise, they say it opens tomorrow, but midnight or 9am???  LOL .

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

Trish, I worked in middle and high school too long for language to bother me, LOL.

When Heather and Ed got married 23 years ago, I made them a quilt, which has been in constant use. From her tucking the bottom between the bed and the footboard, the bottom has shredded. She brought it up to me last week, but I was working on Manda’s things, so I just got to it today. I had to cut off the bottom two borders, where it was shredded. The old binding was a faded red. I don’t have any red, so I pulled a cranberry fabric out, and cut new binding strips. Of course I had to iron the cranberry fabric, which was about 3 yards, first. By the time I got the new binding cut, my knees had enough, so I’m sitting.

When Manda was in, she showed me pix of where her quilt, a trip around the world, was wearing. Her’s is also about 20 years old and used all the time. I had her go thru my extra charm squares and pic some that would match. She sews, so I told her how to cut them down and just sew them over the worn areas.

Lunch today is Olive Garden. Chicken gnocchi soup, salad and breadsticks for the win!

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

SIGNS OF THE TIMES......
1. IN THE VESTRY OF A NEW ENGLAND CHURCH:  WILL THE LAST PERSON TO LEAVE PLEASE SEE THAT THE PERPETUAL LIGHT IS EXTINGUISHED.
2.  IN A PENNSYLVANIA CEMETERY:  PERSONS ARE PROHIBITED FROM PICKING FLOWERS FROM ANY OF THEIR OWN GRAVES.

A LOVELY FALL DAY HERE.  IN THE 80S.  I SAT OUTDOORS FOR QUITE A SPELL TO ENJOY THE FRESH AIR WITH A LOVELY BREEZE.

TRISH......I FELL ON MY BUTT INTO A BAG OF SEVERAL SOFT SWEATERS SO NO HARM DONE.  I WAS LUCKY,
CRUISE?   WHERE AND WHEN?  I'VE FORGOTTEN.

HOLLY.......THAT'S QUITE A POJECT YOU TOOK ON REPAIRING HEATHER AND ED'S QUILT.  LOTS TO DO.

AS FOR ME, ITS MY DAY OF REST BUT THEN I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE 8 SIDE DRAWERS IN MY SEWING MACHINE'S DESK.  THEY NEEDED RE-ORGANIZING AND SORTING.  TOOK ME A WHILE.  I ALSO TAPED A CARD ON THE FRONT OF EACH DRAWER SO I KNOW WHAT'S INSIDE.  MAKES THINGS EASIER FOR THIS OLD GAL.

THEN IT WAS SITTING EXERCISES.  I DID NOT DO LAPS THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS, BEING SO TIRED.  NEED TO GET STARTED AGAIN.  WILL TRY TO DO MY LAPS LATER.  IN THE MEANTIME I TOOK OUT MY TRASH AND THEN FINISHED MY LATEST JIGSAW PUZZLE SO I CAN START A NEW ONE TOMORROW.  SENT PICS AND TEXTS TO THE USUAL PLAYERS SO THEY KNOW.

I HAD A BOWL OF CHICKEN RICE SOUP FOR MY BRUNCH, SINCE I NEVER GOT MY BREAKFAST. I ONLY MADE A SMALL POT SO ONLY SHARED WITH 2 OTHERS LAST NITE.  I HAVE ENUF FOR ANOTHER BOWL OF SOUP FOR SUPPER.
I MAY OR MAY NOT MAKE THAT APPLE CAKE TODAY.  I STILL HAVE TO BREAK DOWN MY CARDBOARD CARTONS FOR THE RECYCLING.  I CAN BRING THEM DOWN TOMORROW WHEN I GO DOWN FOR MY MAIL.
I NEED TO REST A BIT SO WILL WATCH TV.  MAY TRY TO PULL FABRICS FOR THE CASPER WH I'M PLANNING NEXT.  AS MOST THINGS IN MY LIFE, I PLAY IT BY EAR AND DO WHAT I CAN WHEN I CAN AND SKIP THE REST.  SUCH IS MY RETIREMENT.
HAVE A NICE DAY MY FRIENDS.  HUGS FOR YOU ALL, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

Gas prices here for Premium (high test) was 3.29 last week, but with my Kroger points the price came down $1 a gallon.  So $2.29. Not bad.  I remember my father used to give me $3 for gas on Thursday.  It was enough to last a week.  Then he gave me a few dollars for the weekend, usually enough for a movie and pizza or ice cream after.  🤣
There are some gas stations in FL where we usually stay that give you the option to pump it yourself or have them do it.

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

I have had a very relaxing weekend. Growing up, my Mom & Dad believed in not working on Sunday, the Lord's day. I still feel guilty if I do, but sometimes it's not major work, only a load or two of laundry.

I've had a fireplace in the four houses I have lived in and have always wanted a mantel clock. Since I've been working so hard, I treated myself to one. I didn't get the one that chimes, but a silent one & I love it.

Trish, the patio project is on hold until Monday. Too lazy to get the water hose & hook up to the pw. I haven't used this water hose in 3 years so it could be no good. I talked myself right out of it, lol. I think it's called procrastinating, lol!

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

I listened to you girls and did some distashing. I went through the closet where we had some jackets, etc that we haven’t worn (or even looked at) since leaving NY. Well, I found a pair of earrings and a bracelet in my long black “fancy” coat as the kids called it. A parking ticket from 18 years ago, lol. $321. A beautiful silk embroidered scarf. A few “clutch” handbags. The clothes, will get donated. I’ll keep the scarf and the cash and jewelry. Oh and a check made out to me for $43.21. Weird amount. My DD says I should take it to the bank. lol.

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

FROM READER'S DIGEST'S LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE......
A PSYCHIATRIST GETS A FRANTIC CALL.  "YOU'VE GOT TO HELP ME, DOCTOR," A WOMAN SAYS.  "MY HUSBAND THINKS HE'S AN OPERA STAR.  EVERY NIGHT HE BELTS OUT ARIAS FROM AIDA, RIGOLETTO AND LA TRAVIATA AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS!"
"SEND HIM TO ME," THE SHRINK SAYS.  "I'LL SEE WHAT I CAN DO."
A WEEK LATER THE  WOMAN CALLS AGAIN.  "IT'S A MIRACLE!  HE'S NOT SINGING NEARLY AS MUCH," SHE SAYS. "DID YOU CURE HIS DELUSION?"
"NO," SAYS THE PSYCHIATRIST.  "I JUST GAVE HIM A SMALLER PART."

BEAUTIFUL DAY TODAY.  SUNSHINE AND WARM WEATHER BUT NOT HOT.
I CAN'T BELIEVE I AM STILL ACHING HERE AND THERE FROM MY CLEARING EFFORTS.  ESPECIALLY LOWER BACK AND MY RIGHT HAND AND I AM RIGHT HANDED LADIES.  AND TODAY I WANTED TO GET STARTED ON MY CASPER WH.  I DOUBT THAT WILL HAPPEN.
I WAS ABLE TO GET IN A COUPLE LAPS THIS MORNING BEFORE FADING OUT AND THEN I EVEN STARTED A NEW JIGSAW PUZZLE.  THE APPLE CAKE I PLANNED MAY OR MAY NOT GET DONE.  DEPENDS ON HOW I FEEL LATER.  ITS A GOOD THING I DID NOT PROMISE ANYONE ELSE SOME CAKE.
I TOOK OUT MY RECYCLES WHICH IS A PLUS AND STORED AWAY A COUPLE OF BLANKETS IN THE CLOSET THAT I DON'T NEED JUST NOW.  LETS SEE IF I CAN PULL SOME FABRICS TODAY, AT LEAST.
OTHER THAN THAT I WILL READ AND WATCH TV AND STAY AWAY FROM THE SNACKS.  I HAD TO GO TO OUR COMMON ROOM TO READ TO STAY KEEP FROM EATING BEFORE MEALTIME YESTERDAY.  ITS NICE I HAVE A COMFY PLACE TO ENJOY.

WISHING YOU ALL A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

I had PT this morning, then came home and had lunch, napped, and finished my book (The Third Victim by Lisa Gardner). For dinner we had salad from Olive Garden. We found when we order salad to get all the dressing on the side, so we can bring home what we don’t eat.

It’s getting dark so much earlier, boo!

Janet, good haul from your destashing! I haven’t gotten to the coat closet yet.

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

Well, you gals are guilting me into doing some decluttering too. The closet in my sewing room is a mess.  I will get in there tomorrow and do some sorting.  I think I will donate some more fabric.  Some if it has been in my plastic bins or in boxes for several years.  I know that for a fact because I bought most if it when I was with Kelli.  I must get my machine to the sewing center tomorrow.  It is 30 minutes away and I think I must plan that long of a trip!    Actually depending upon the time, it can be much longer with traffic as it goes right by the University of Akron and there is lots of traffic around that campus.

My heels have been hurting me after walking, so I am looking at new shoes.  I have a newer pair of Skecher walking shoes, but they make my sciatica hurt.  They seem to pitch me forward.  Shoes are so expensive, so I guess I will go to a store to actually try on a few pair.

Devonne, you are a busy bee for sure.  My Dean is that way, but I am content to sit and read, watch TV, play computer or my tablet.  He was bored today, so he started cleaning the outside screens on the windows.

I made a new chicken breast recipe in the air fryer today.  The recipe looked delicious, but we were disappointed.  It was more of a "rub" on the chicken and I was not really a fan and will not make it again.  I like to simply marinate the chicken in Italian dressing and cook, yummy.

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

FROM READER'S DIGEST...LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE......
A TEXAN IS IN BOSTON, WHERE HE MEETS A WOMAN IN THE HOTEL BAR.
"WHERE'D Y'ALL GO TO COLLEGE?"  HE ASKS.
SHE REPLIES, "YALE."
CUPPING HIS HANDS AROUND HIS MOUTH, HE SHOUTS, " I SAID, WHERE'D Y'ALL GO TO COLLEGE?"

LOVELY DAY HERE.  CAN'T COMPLAIN.

JANET.....UNLIKE YOU I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY MONEY DURING MY WEEDING OUT.  SOME THINGS I FORGOT I MADE OR HAD, BUT NO MONEY.  LUCKY YOU.

I STILL FIND THINGS I WANT TO MOVE FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER.  GOOD THING I AM WRITING THESE THINGS DOWN OR I WOULD CERTAINLY FORGET WHAT IS WHERE.
I HAVE ENOUGH LEFTOVERS FOR MY MEALS TODAY SO DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT.
YES, I TOOK AN IDEA FROM A NEIGHBOR AND THIS MORNING I FIXED A SMALL PRESSING TABLE NEAR MY SEWING MACHINE TO TOUCH-UP THE SMALL BITS I NEED NOW AND THEN.  I THINK IT WILL WORK OUT WELL.
I HAD A WONKY HEAD YESTERDAY SO DIDN'T GET MUCH DONE.  NOR READING EITHER.  IT WAS MOSTLY RESTING.
TODAY I FEEL BETTER SO DID MY MORNING LAPS JUST FINE AND WENT TO COFFEE MORNING FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR TO TOUCH BASE WITH SOME OF THE LADIES.
NOW WE HAVE 2 LADIES HERE WITH DREADED CANCER, AND THEY LIVE RIGHT ACROSS THE HALL FROM EACH OTHER AT THE FAR END OF MY HALLWAY.  BOTH VERY NICE GALS WHO COME TO BINGO EVERY WEDNESDAY.  SAY A PRAYER OR TWO FOR BOTH PEGGY AND RHONDA PLEASE.  THEY DESERVE TO WIN THIS BATTLE THEY ARE FACING.  ONE OF THEM, RHONDA, HAS IT BACK AFTER DEFEATING IT A FEW YEARS AGO BEFORE SHE MOVED HERE LAST YEAR.  ITS NOW IN HER BACK.
I AM PLANNING TO ORDER SOME FARMER'S CHEESE THIS FRIDAY.  I KNOW THEY SHIP OUT EARLY IN THE WEEK TO REACH THEIR DESTINATION IN 2 DAYS.  I HAVE A CRAVING.
MY DAUGHTER IS TRYING TO MAKE A PLAN TO VISIT THIS WEEK SOMETIME SO SHE CAN PICK UP THE THINGS I HAVE SET ASIDE FOR HER.  THIS MORNING I WENT THRU MY COFFEE MUGS.  I HAVE MORE THAN I NEED AND MY CUP TREE ONLY HOLDS 6.  ANOTHER WASH AND WEEDING JOB.
YUP, I AM TOUCHING UP A BIT HERE AND THERE TO MAKE MY LIFE EASIER.
WISHING YOU A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

No supper to fix tonight.  We ate lunch out with friends, Carol and Albert...at Chili's.  We all made two stops, bank and grocery and then we  came back here and visited some more.   They'll be leaving for FL the end of October.

Yesterday, Howard had an appt. at a hand doctor for his trigger finger.   After x-rays, he received a cortisone 15 in his finger.  Then, we had lunch at Culver's, our old tried and true. Tried of Fat Burrito but their machine was down and they couldn't take credit cards and all we had was $15 between us and that wasn't enough.
Then, we got much-needed groceries.

ML and Bill got home from Branson Sunday afternoon.  They had a wonderful time; all went well.  We still haven't had time to see each other so are still communicating by phone and text.
Now, we should have two days at home until Friday when it's time for our small group, again.
I'm on for dessert which will be a pumpkin bundt cake, unless I change my mind!

Geez, Janet, all I ever find in old coats are wadded up tissues or the occasional old receipt.
QB, sorry to hear about your two neighbors with CA.  Must be hard to know what to say to them.  You've really socked into it and done some major organizing.  Smart to list where things are.  I know I've "lost" too many things for that same reason.   Being sure the new location is a better one... but sometimes, never to be found again????

Here's Howard.  Better see if I need to warm up his leftovers.  Back tomorrow.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

How strange, I thought I posted yesterday, but it's not here Maybe I forgot to "send" LOL

JANET, lucky you, the most I find is like INDY old receipts, tissues and notes or shopping list. Although once I found a pair of gloves in a coat pocket !!

SANDRA that is a great idea to post a note with what is there, I need to do that, I used to do that on my sewing boxes, got out of the habit.
Hope you get your Farmers Cheese, I think it's a bit like cottage cheese??

INDY that next Friday social came up quick, pumpkin bundt sounds good, and fitting for October. Lots of pumpkin recipes around at the moment. So sorry that H had to have an injection. This getting old is not so much fun!!

DEVONNE I didn't realise it was such a big job doing the patio, you sure get a lot done by yourself, guess you have to though

CHERYL I still have tons of fabric too, and some is really, really old LOL I need to find a use for it. I don't like Skechers for my feet, I need more support than I feel they give me, trying some on is a good idea, then you can always look them up and see if you can get them online, Megan & I took a sneaky pic of the box when trying shoes on for Dean, they wanted over $250 for them - yikes!!! Way too expensive.

HOLLY I always get dressing on the side if I can, sometimes not possible, but I don't like too much dressing, and sometimes they float the salad there is so much! Enjoy your leftovers!

I had a quiet day, did some more sewing, a bit of tidying up, and took the Mr to the Metro station and picked him up when he returned. Easy dinner of salads with a baked (microwave) potato and some lamb steaks. We had the salmon pasta last night and I got bad indigestion, no idea why it affected me that way, very little cream, and parmesan, and the pasta was fresh (Actually just had a thought, it was 'cooking cream' only 1/2 cup for a big pot, maybe my body doesn't like it. Don't usually use it but bought it for a change. No idea what makes 'cooking cream' different from normal cream, something about withstanding hot temps, but other than that, no idea)

I am hoping for a cooler night tonight, last night the house was still hot late into the night, and our bedroom felt stifling. Feels a little cooler tonight, so hopefully I will get some sleep, I ended up laying on the sofa for an hour or two to cool off! The Mr can sleep in any temps, I have trouble when it's warm.

So much pollen blowing around, Megan & Dean have both been coughing, Megan now on Nasonex twice a day and antihistamines daily, she was feeling better today after having taken the meds all day yesterday.
I could see the stuff blowing in the wind today, it's a pretty time of the year in our suburb, just deadly for those with allergies , so many flowers out it's very colourful!

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 28 ~ SAT OCT 4

ANOTHER FROM READER'S DIGEST.......
A MAN IS PLAYING FETCH WITH HIS DOG BY THE LAKE.  HE THROWS A STICK OUT ON THE WATER AND THE DOG TROTS OUT ATOP THE WATER, RETRIEVES THE STICK AND WALKS BACK TO HIM.  THE MAN IS FLABBERGASTED.  HE THROWS THE STICK AGAIN.  AND AGAIN.  EACH TIME HE THROWS IT THE DOG BRINGS IT BACK WALKING ATOP THE WATER.
SPOTTING A STRANGER NEARBY WHO HAD BEEN WATCHING, HE ASKS, "DID YOU NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL?"
"YES," SAYS THE STRANGER.  "YOUR DOG CAN'T SWIM."

DITTO ON THE WEATHER TODAY.  BUT A LITTLE COOLER.  LOVELY.

TRISH......YES, FARMER'S CHEESE IS A SOLID CHEESE BUT SIMILAR TO WHITE COTTAGE CHEESE.  IT TASTES DIFFERENT SOMEHOW.  IT MUST BE THE AGING.  MY GRANDMOTHER USED TO AGE HER CHEESE ON A SUNNY WINDOWSILL.  SHE WOULD KEEP CLOSE WATCH ON IT AND IT WENT FROM SILL TO FRIDGE AND BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN.  HERS, AS I REMEMBER, TASTED EVEN BETTER THAN THE ONES I GET FROM ANDRULIS.
I TACKED DOWN MY CASPER ON A DARK NIGHT SKY FABRIC.  HE WILL WORK FOR ANY SEASON.  I AM NOT PUTTING A PUMPKIN WITH HIM.
ITS BINGO TONITE SO I HAVE MY FINGERS CROSSED THAT I WILL WIN A BIT.  ITS NICE WHEN I DON'T LOSE ANY MONEY.
I NOW HAVE A SMALL PRESSING STATION SET UP NEAR BY SEWING MACHINE BUT I NEED ONE OF THOSE ELECTRICAL OUTLETS THAT HAS AN OFF/ON BUTTON SO I CAN TURN OFF THE IRON.  I HATE HAVING TO UNPLUG IT EACH TIME.  I GUESS THAT MEANS AN ORDER TO TARGET THIS WEEKEND.  I HAVE A COUPLE OTHER THINGS I NEED SO I WILL ORDER IT THEN.

THAT'S IT LADIES.  TODAY WILL BE A SLOW DAY.  I WILL WORK ON THE NEW JIGSAW PUZZLE, WATCH A COUPLE OF RODEO PROGRAMS, CATCH UP ON MY READING.  NO COOKING IS NEEDED THO I TOOK OUT GROUND BEEF TO DEFROST.  I THINK MAYBE SOME HAMBURGER SOUP THIS WEEKAND AND A PIZZA TOMORROW NITE.
HAVE A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S
