Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

Hope you had a nice birthday DIANE your wishes are on last weeks thread.

CAROL and THERESA have you started to recover yet?? Looking forward to hearing about your trip.

SANDRA it's so good of MATT to do your shopping - I know you feed him well - you raised a good son!
Enjoy your day of rest and hope you get some rain, we haven't had much lately either, but we DON'T need more LOL

HOLLY you've been doing a lot, no wonder the knees are complaining, how is the long arm going, are you getting time to use it yet?

CHERYL poor little deer hope the mum was just hiding. The little ones have no fear, she may have been watching. We always wondered about fencing in the USA - everywhere we saw suburban housing there was mostly no fencing dividing properties, is that normal, I remember mostly in the south. We have fences diving us, back and sides, some people have small fences in their front yards, but mostly not. The older style homes, and big mansions do, my nephew has fences and security gates, but he has some pretty valuable cars.

I have been tidying up the bedroom, started giving it a good clean from top to bottom, started with the ceiling and fans, then moved to windows and frames. Tomorrow I will finish it off, except for the vac under the bed, will do that Tuesday before the new one comes. I did a little declutter of shoes too, YIKES how did I end up with so many pairs.

Also found time to do a little sewing, got the last of my backgrounds sewn to the strips, now it's sew the strips together, and I did the first 2 incorrectly of course, I was panicking that I had done all the background wrong, nope, just sewing the strips wrong, once all the prep was done Julie was right, it goes together quickly,  I have to make 80 blocks and did 12 in no time.

I have been working on my jigsaw while dinner was cooking, so frustrating when you can't find a piece, ended up going through the rest of the pieces and found it, now the sky is finished, except a few bits, and I have to sort all the remaining pieces into shapes. That will take some time, might be a good activity while I wait for the bed on Tuesday. I have done about 1/4 of the puzzle, so about 750 pieces still to do.

Have a lovely Sunday, hope the weather is good to you and you get rain if you want it, and none if you don't.
Bus morning for me tomorrow, I take Dean for his last exam, then back to take W for his eye exam, he can't drive for a few hours after, hoping I can make it, usually  get home around 8.10 from school drop off and the Mr has appt at 8.45, but the traffic is awful by then. Fingers crossed.

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

Have a great Sunday, everyone! I'm an early bird this morning. Got up before 8 am and already had my coffee.

Today is a do nothing day for me. Tomorrow will be a work day.

Looking forward to Carol and Theresa telling us about their trip. That's a lot of miles put on your car, Carol. It doesn't look like there were many there this time?

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

Trish, haven’t got to the long arm yet.

Our back yard is fenced, 6 foot fence because we used to have the pool. Front is open, so the deer can come chew on my trees, LOL.

Made another batch of cupcakes, and have a ham in the crockpot. Today is Ralph’s birthday!

Ralph and Heather have been gone since Thursday, she drove him to his SeaBees reunion in Virginia Beach. They are on the way home now. They left VA early, they are 50 miles away now. The house has been so quiet with just me here!

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

It seems less and less attend the COF retreat every year.  It’s been a long time since I attended.  They haven’t been on the east coast for a long time.  If they ever come back ,I may consider going.  Waiting to hear about the retreat, etc from Carol and Teresa.
Nothing much going on around here. DH has been busy stringing decks, etc.  I don’t do outside work, and frankly I haven’t kept up with inside either.  I’m sort of lost interest in a lot of things…🤷‍♀️.  We don’t even discuss it anymore.  I don’t go to the gym, DH does the grocery shopping (never did before).

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

I've just had an enjoyable few day's reading catchup with  you all...
Our group was only 7 including us which, frankly, is the best amount for our small house.  We're 12 when all can come, but several are now fairly unable.  The one who just turned 99 and the couple with major health issues, including CA.  My simple sloppy joes elicited postive comments from several-- 2 lbs.gr. beef, onion, green pepper, 1 1/2 cups ketchup, 1/2 cup BBQ sauce, 2 tsp. yellow mustard, S & P to taste ( but I added none) and since the BBQ sauce contained brown sugar, I left out the 2 T. of that.
The "joyous" part is:  with ML's and Howard's help, the house is neat and clean, once again, and I'm on a  deadly serious quest to keep it that way.   The MOST joyous part is:  it's over and we're back to normal and I can do what I want, again. These people are not gossips or critical but they're homes are spotlessly clean and just must do my best to attain that for my own peace of mind when  they come here.  Sorry for the same old diatribe every time!

Really belated Happy Birthday, Diane.  Hope it was a dandy.  We wouldn't all be here if it wasn't for you.

Devonne, how nice that you and Sadie Grace can have girly time together, sometimes, when the "boys" do their thing--company for you and making memories for her.  You're the best female "man" I know.  I don't know how you do it with your back and all...

Janet, those are some major changes for you.  Are you still feeling unwell?  Having said that, there does come a time when each person has to slow down and cut back and you've been carrying the load for a very long time.  Hugs for you...

Holly, alone time for you!  Bet you've missed Ralph, though, a bit.  How wonderful that Heather could do that for him.  Your girls are gems, also.

Yes, we're all waiting for the Adventures of Carol and Theresa.  Was it Las Vegas where you went, or did I dream that up?  Glad you're both safely home.

QB, I'm glad to hear about your doing handwork.  There's so much ballyhooing of only machine sewing and IMHO, there's room for both when one feels the need or the want.  Are you using the tiny, short quiting needles and/or have you tried the longer milliner's needles?

I was furious this morning as my newspaper wasn't out there (happens too often).  I called Family Express to see if they had papers to buy and they said they didn't get any this morning.  So, I suppose, once again, it's the deliverer, who sometimes has trouble getting them from HIS supplier, according to a note he left not long ago.  I do hate to give up my paper.  So much other stuff in my life has gone by the wayside and I just like a real paper, or book, in my hands.

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

TWO-HEADED HEADLINES......
1.  CARTER TICKS OFF BLACK HELP
2.  CARRIBEAN ISLANDS DRIFT TO LEFT.

ANOTHER LOVELY DAY.

JUDY......I AM REALLY ENJOYING THE HAND-QUILTING AND YES, I AM USING THE SMALL SHARPS NEEDLES.  THEY ARE STURDY FOR GETTING THRU THE LAYERS.

I DID A FEW THINGS TODAY EVEN THO ITS MY DAY OF REST.  FOR ONE THING, GO-NET IS COMING TOMORROW TO SET EVERY APT UP FOR FIBRE OPTICS.  WE DO NOT HAVE TO GET IT, BUT ITS THERE IN THE BLDG FOR THE FUTURE. I GUESS WITH GO-NET YOU CAN GET THE INTERNET EVEN WHEN THE POWER GOES OUT.  ITS NOT THAT NECESSARY FOR ME SO I DOUBT I'LL GET IT.
WE HAD TO CLEAR OUT 2 FEET INTO OUR WALK-IN CLOSETS FOR THEM TO WORK.  I CLEARED OUT MORE JUST TO BE SAFE.  THEY HAVE TO STAY THAT WAY FOR THE WHOLE WEEK UNTIL THE WORK IS FINISHED.  THAT MEANS I HAVE LOTS OF CLOTHING ON HANGARS LAYING ACROSS MY RECLINER IN MY BEDROOM/SEWING ROOM.  I ALSO HAD TO MOVE OUT BAGS AND BAGS OF UNREAD BOOKS AND A FEW OTHER THINGS AS WELL.  MY BEDROOM IS A MESS.  I MAY NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO CONTINUE SEWING ON MY HUSQVARNA THIS COMING WEEK UNTIL I CAN GET THINGS BACK IN ORDER  SINCE SOME FABRICS ARE BURIED UNDER THOSE CLOTHES.  LIKE I SAID, THIS APT IS SO SMALL.  ONLY 3 ROOMS AND BATH.  WISH I HAD A 4TH ROOM BUT NOT TO BE.  I MANAGE PRETTY WELL JUST THE SAME.

NOW BACK TO MY READING.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

Trish, the fence issue is a mixed bag of sorts.  Lots of homes do have 4ft or 6ft fences in the yards, mostly in the rear yards.  I live in a semi rural area and only two of my neighbors have fences.  We had one when we had the dogs but after that, Dean wanted to take it down because it made mowing the grass easier for him and less trimming around the fence posts.  We do have one section left of the 5 ft chain link fence in the back and the deer just jump right over it when running thu the back yard.  At our previous home, we had an inground swimming pool, so we had the fencing all around the back yard, the wooden privacy fencing.  The front was open without fencing.  Seems to be the same in the city here.  Aaron has a VERY small lot, but he does have a fence in the back too.  I think there was a pool there at one time before he bought the house.  He wanted to take it down last year, but I advised him to leave it up because if he wants to sell, a fenced yard is wonderful for little kids.  He lives on a pretty busy street.

Judy, I understand about the clean house when having guests.  We do that too, even if it is just our son and grandkids coming to visit/spend night.  We  clean all bathrooms, bedrooms upstairs and clean the kitchen spotless downstairs.  Don't know why, we just do.  Thank goodness we do not get company often.   I am not a social gal at all.

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

INDY I am also a ---  clean the house people are coming ---- person, seems like they don't notice if they turn up unexpected though Maybe it's just US seeing the house dust/clutter I am glad it went well, good luck keeping it tidy, that is my problem, just putting things down for 'later'

I am doing just that today, I think I will move the bedroom furniture around, HE will not be happy, but I will do the work, been busy this morning, took Dean, came home and took the Mr to the eye dr, home, then pick UP the Mr, then picked up Dean, a totally wasted morning, I am so behind, at least the washing is now out, and the sun is shining, I didn't go to yoga, I have started measuring !! I know it will all fit, but I am dreading emptying all the dressers - YIKES.

I really want to get some blocks made, but I am resisting the urge, I got onto the computer to send my expiring points for Qantas to the Mr, cheeky wretches won't let you transfer expiring points so I bought gift cards instead.
I also found an email the Mr had sent, for some reason his gmail account wants to send from our home internet acct, and the computer won't do it, you have to manually select the gmail account, even though it's all typed in that account - computers!!! doesn't seem to do it from my  account on the same computer!! He must have something different in his settings.

Back to pondering, the timing of the delivery tomorrow will make my decision for me, and I will either start moving tonight or not move at all

Nothing else happening, Dean is now home for the next few weeks and when he goes back he'll be in his final year, my gosh, how did he get so old, told him today the need to have a shave, he's looking scruffy.
I forgot to tell you, Megan is finally starting exercise groups, hopefully this week will be her start, she signed up, but wants to see her Dr on Wed before her first class.

Thanks for the  info on fences, I remember it was in Paducah there were very few fences, it surprised us as we wondered what people did with their dogs. Makes it hard to keep them in your own yard, or from wandering, I guess they  chain them up

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

LOST IN THE TRANSLATION.......
1.  IN A TOKYO HOTEL:  IS FORBITTEN TO STEAL HOTEL TOWELS PLEASE.  IF YOU ARE NOT PERSON TO DO SUCH A THING IS PLEASE NOT TO READ NOTIS.
2.  IN ANOTHER JAPANESE HOTEL:  PLEASE TO BATHE INSIDE THE TUB.

ITS A LOVELY FALL DAY HERE TODAY.  WE HAVE RAIN COMING IN THE NEXT 3 DAYS THEY CLAIM.  I SURE HOPE SO.  TODAY WILL HIT 71 AND OUR NITES ARE IN THE 40S AND 50S RIGHT NOW.

I AM READY FOR THE MAINT PEOPLE FROM GO-NET.  WE HAVE TO BE READY EVERY DAY THIS WEEK FROM 9 A.M. TIL 4:30 P.M. BECAUSE THEY COULD BE AT ANY OF THE 24 APTS TO DO THEIR WORK.  I CAN'T WAIT FOR THEM TO BE GONE SO I CAN PUT MY CLOSET BACK IN ORDER.  I HAVE TO GET UP EARLY EACH MORNING NOW EVEN THO I GO TO BED SO DARN LATE.....OR RATHER EARLY IN THE MORNING HOURS.  CROSS YOUR FINGERS FOR ME THEY COME TODAY OR TOMORROW SO I CAN GET ON WITH MY LIFE.

NOT MUCH HAPPENING HERE.  I DID MY LAPS EARLY AND PUT OUT AN OLDER STEAM IRON FOR THE FREE TABLE.  IT WORKS FINE BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE THE RETRACTABLE CORD WHICH I LOVE SO I DON'T NEED IT.  I RARELY IRON ANYTHING ANYWAY.  ALL MY CLOTHES ARE WASH N WEAR FOR THE MOST PART.  I USE MY NEW IRON FOR PRESSING FABRIC FOR QUILTS MAINLY.
I HAD MY SON BUY ME SOME GRANNY SMITH APPLES THIS WEEK SO I CAN MAKE APPLE CAKE.  ITS MUCH SIMPLER THAN MAKING AN APPLE PIE AND I LOVE IT.  I THINK 2 OF THE APPLES WILL BE ENOUGH TO MAKE AN 8 BY 8 PAN OF CAKE.  THAT'S ALL I NEED AND WILL STILL HAVE SOME TO SHARE.  I CAN'T EAT IT ALL MYSELF.
I WANT TO GET BACK TO SEWING AND I REALLY DO NOT FEEL COMFY WITH ALL MY CLOTHES STEWN AROUND MY BED/SEWING ROOM.  THINGS ARE UNDERNEATH THEM.  IN THE MEANTIME, IT'S LUCKY I BOUGHT THOSE BOOKS SO I HAVE PLENTY NEW THINGS TO READ.  AND THEN, OF COURSE, THERE ARE THE BAGS OF PAPERBACKS FROM MY DAU. THAT NEED READING.  SOME OF THEM ARE SO-SO AS FAR AS FAVORITE TYPES OF MYSTERY IS CONCERNED.  LIKE HALLMARK'S XMAS STORIES, SAME OLD, SAME OLD.

TOMORROW WILL BE MY FIRST DAY OF DOG SITTING.  NEIGHBOR TOM GOES TO P.T. AND CAN'T TAKE SWEET OSCAR.  USUALLY HE STAYED WITH CONNIE, BUT CONNIE MOVED OUT LAST WEEKEND.  I VOLUNTEERED.  I CAN HAVE THE COMPANY OF A DOG WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT HIS GENERAL CARE AND TAKING WALKS.  I JUST HAVE TO SIT WITH HIM IN MY APT. OR OUT IN THE COMMON ROOM WHERE I CAN READ, AND ONLY FOR A FEW HOURS NOW AND THEN.  ITS A GOOD WAY TO GET MY 'DOGGY' FIX.
I THINK I'LL TAKE SEVERAL PICS OF HIM SO I CAN MAKE A WH OF HIM LIKE IT DID FOR MY SWEET PENNY.  TOM CAN PUT IT ON HIS DOOR.  WE SHALL SEE IF THAT WILL WORK OUT.

THAT'S IT LADIES.  BE SAFE.  HUGS FOR ALL.  QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

I don’t worry much about cleaning before company comes…. Why?  We haven’t had company since we moved in 14? years ago.  Fortunately, DH is a clean freak…about most things anyway.  My quilt studio and related rooms are always tidy, even in the midsts of a big project.  Lately, it’s been collecting dust.  🙁
    PT this afternoon.

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

Like you, Janet, I don't have much company. When G&E stayed here during my surgery, I did make sure the bed had clean sheets and the kitchen was clean. I like a clean house even if I don't have company. If it gets cluttered, I can't do anything else until it's cleaned.

I scheduled with a fence company to get a fence installed the week after I moved in. With 3 dogs, no way could I walk them all every day. They like to go out every 4-5 hours. The first week was tough without a fence.

I trimmed a little more on the bushes this morning, but it got too hot before I got out there. I did manage to fill two lawn bags of what I cut two weeks ago. I'll try again around 7:00. I ordered a new patio rug that is washable. The one I have could be cleaned, but it would take hours of pressure washing and chemicals and that's not for me.

Holly, how did you lose your weight? PM me if you prefer. I am watching my carbs and doing intermittent fasting. I also cut out sweets, pasta, potatoes and bread. I use Monkfruit if I need anything with sugar. I can't give up the cream in my coffee, lol. I do buy the zero carb tortilla wraps and use those when I need bread. I also make chaffles for bread. Friday I bought Lavash bread....a first for me. I plan to use it for ricotta cheese, topped with grilled zucchini and tomatoes and Italian seasoning. I got this recipe when I had the Hello Fresh meal delivery. I'm glad I have found other bread options besides sandwich bread. My Fitness Pal is a blessing. I have done my menu for this entire week. I like the weight graph too. My weight chart goes back to 2016, when I joined! This is the first time I have gotten serious, lol.

I am having pasta for dinner, but it's made with frozen zucchini spirals. I'll add spaghetti sauce, ground beef and parmesan cheese. The zucchini has a lot of water you have to squeeze out. I put it in the microwave.

Sandra, how wonderful you get to babysit Oscar. I think you will enjoy his company!

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

Trish, I would hope people don’t chain their dogs, too cruel! Maybe the electric fences, or keep them inside and walk them.

Devonne, LOL, I call it the “don’t eat that” diet. I make sure to get enough-ish protein. Protein for breakfast, a light lunch, only one sweetened drink per day (homemade sweet tea for me, and I sip it all day), lots of water, about half of what I’d like to have for dinner, no eating after dinner. One sweetened thing per day. The days I don’t have PT, I do the home exercises they’ve told me to do.

I follow a couple people on instagram who are on weight loss journeys. One explained how to calculate the calories you need per day to maintain- I googled it to find mine- and try to take in a few hundred calories less than that per day. I’m not making myself crazy with it. I didn’t think I had much willpower, but I’m surprising myself. My sister in law gave me a hint, when I want to be done eating for the day, I brush my teeth and just have water after that.

I want to walk much more, but between my balance issues and not doing well on other than flat surfaces, it’s hard. Ralph suggested doing laps in our driveway, which is paved and over a hundred feet long, using my cane, so I’ll try that while the weather holds. I hope all that gives you some hints!

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

My issue with electric fences.  We knew someone who had a dog and an electric fences.  It did a wonderful job job keeping their dog in the yard, BUT, it didn’t keep other dogs, etc out.  One day a stray got in and attacked and their dog.  Very sad.  Then my pet sitter had two Rottweilers that she kept in her large fenced in yard and a bear came in and killed them both….so my feelings about electric fences is not good.  I think people become complacent and just put the dog out there and don’t pay attention to what’s going on.
BTW, I just read about a woman who uses an electric fence and collars on her little kids…🙄.  The neighbors called the police and reported it.  I think she had her kids chipped as well…which I think is a good idea?

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

A lot of people do use the electric fences.  My BIL had one when his granddaughter moved in with them.  She had a rescue dog and they did not know if he would stay in the yard.  Bill had a large lot, almost an acre, but put the electric fence in the front, where they could see the dog.  But, as Janet said, it does not keep other creatures out.  The neighbor has two German shepherds and they did come and got into a scuffle with with the rescue.  Thankfully he was not hurt, as I think he was mostly scared and the shepherds did not really bite him.  Just territorial.  So those fences are not too reliable.

It is raining!!  Yeah, we need it.  It is a slow rain so hopefully it will sink into the rock  hard soil and not run off.

My DIL's mom sent some chili home with Dean.  He went over to help her in the garage.  It was really good, I think mine is pretty good, but this one...yum!  She said she does not have a recipe, just dumps things in that she has on hand.  We had chili yesterday and today I made some elbow macaroni and we finished it over that.  I appreciated not having to cook.

Sandra, have fun dog sitting!  I debate with myself all the time; get a dog, no dog, get a dog...lol.  Then I spend time with Brutus and that gets me thru that thought.

Re: ODT SUNDAY SEPT 21 ~ SAT SEPT 27

We have no true fence.  Both our dogs were small and vulnerable to a possible coyote attack, so we always had to go out with them...always.  I was also a bit worried a hawk might carry Fancy off since she was so tiny.  Once she took off chasing a deer that was in our yard.  You know, how the tiny ones still think they're a real dog and do stuff like that.   I said  "true" fence because we do have a 15 ft. section of wooden privacy fence we put up between us and Shena and Tom, 28 years ago after they moved in.  Wild grapes eventually self-seeded themselves all along it and that has proven to be a lovely blessing as it's lush and thick until all the leaves fall off, then come out again the next spring.  But the true blessing is that Tom is a junk man and hauls this and that home and piles it in full view of the front of our house. Our house is probably 25 ft. further back off the highway than theirs. (Our rather ritzy group often comments and clucks about that but then  they all live in town and  don't have that issue.) So...putting up that section of fence has helped to hide the junk mess which of course we didn't know would be happening, when they first moved in.

QB, fingers crossed.  I know it's hard to have to change your normal routine for something
that disrupts like that and for so long!  How nice you can keep Oscar as needed.  I know you miss your Penny.  What kind of dog is Oscar?

I wonder what gene determines whether you enjoy having guests or not?    I'm always amazed at the House Hunters  on HGTV who almost always comment on how they like and want to entertain.   Sometimes, that seems to be the first thing on their wish list.  It's always been hard and exhausting and something I'm glad when it's over, including when it's just family, for me.  I also wonder how they can afford all the food it would take, all the time?

Hope you all sleep  well, and have sweet dreams.
Indy
