Oh, Sandra, that sounds like way too much work for someone as generous as you! Yikes! Enjoy your visit with Matt. Is he off to Florida again?
Judy, I hope you get some pictures of the quilt and the purse. I would love to see them.
Devonne, I hope you get some answers soon. Those minerals and electrolytes are miniscule, but they are critical.
I was put on one of the bone-building meds years ago. My jaw started hurting, and my dentist and my doctor both said it wasn't related to the med. I quit taking the med anyway, and my jaw stopped hurting. So, then the doctor insisted I take extra calcium even though my calcium levels were good. So, I started getting lots of urinary tract infections. Again, she told me they couldn't be calcium-related. I quit taking the calcium, and I've had one UTI in the past ten years. I quit the doctor too.
Now, my new doctor thinks that my fainting spell after I broke my hand might be an electrolyte imbalance. He ran tests, and my sodium is borderline low. I said, "I thought I was supposed to be keeping it low because of my blood pressure." He shook his head and said I was asking good questions. So, now I'm doing some of the Gatorade powder on the days when I get really sweaty as those are probably the days I'm losing a lot of sodium. Good heavens! We play these games, don't we?
We got 1.32" of rain last night, so no gardening for me today. I'm in the middle of projects. Devonne, I love quilting and doll-making equally. They are very different. I need to finish my Scraps to Treasures quilt. The top is nearly done. I have a small wallhanging on the frame to quilt then I can quilt the StoT. I'm waiting for some thread I ordered from Superior. It should be here tomorrow or Monday.
In the meantime, I have some doll projects. Mermaids to be exact. I'm supposed to teach our group a mermaid in a book we're working through this year. The pattern calls for a tiny bit of velvet for the tail fluke. I have a gorgeous piece of silk velvet that's perfect. I bought it in Paris in (gulp!) 2014. Problem: I don't want to cut any of it until I make the jacket first. So, find a pattern. I had a pattern that I thought would work. So, I made the jacket out of a rayon batik to see. The rayon worked well; the velvet won't. It has a self-facing collar, and I don't even want to fiddle with getting it turned properly. So, on to Pattern #2. Nope. It has princess seams. No way I'm dealing with creepy crawly silk velvet and princess seams. On to Pattern #3. I think it's good, but I've never used this pattern, and I would like to see how it fits before I cut into this gorgeous piece of velvet. So, I actually cut out some Christmas fabric as a "test" for the pattern. Sigh. Now, it's August and I'm making a Christmas jacket to see if the pattern fits so that I can sew a jacket and have some scraps for a mermaid doll. This is how my life goes.
And, it just started thundering again. Now to go turn off the machine and my computer.

ACCIDENTAL BLOOPER...
ONE WHEEL WENT INTO THE DITCH. MY FOOT JUMPED FROM BRAKE TO ACCELARATOR, LEAPED ACROSS THE ROAD TO THE OTHER SIDE, AND JUMPED INTO THE TRUNK OF THE TREE.
ITS SUNNY AND BRIGHT BUT NOT TOO WARM. JUST RIGHT FOR NOW.
WELL LADIES, MY ROAST WAS A BIG HIT. IT WAS SO TENDER THE MEAT PRACTICALLY FELL OFF THE BONE. AND SO LEAN, ITS WAS AMAZING. THERE WERE 9 OF US. I ALSO MADE A 9 BY 13 DISH OF POTATOES AND VEGS OF ZUKE, SQUASH, AND SLICED CARROTS. I COULDN'T FIT ANY MORE VEGS IN THAT DISH. I MADE SOME BROWN GRAVY TO GO WITH IT. SOME HAD SECONDS, ONE HAD THIRDS, AND SOME TOOK SOME HOME FOR TODAY. I STILL HAVE LOTS LEFT OF THAT 8 LBS.
THEN SOMEONE SUGGESTED IT WAS SO NICE TO ALL SIT AROUND AND EAT, THAT WE SHOULD DO THIS MORE OFTEN. IT WAS SECONDED. THEN THEY STARTED SUGGESTING WHAT TO MAKE FOR NEXT TIME. I FINALLY SAID WHY NOT MAKE IT POTLUCK. THEN WE COULD MAKE WHAT WE LIKE AND NOT HAVE ONE PERSON DO MOST OF IT. IT WAS HEARTILY AGREED THEN. NOW WE ARE SCHEDULED FOR ANOTHER DINNER OCT 17TH. A LIST WILL GO ON THE BOARD BY THE MAILBOXES AND ANYONE CAN WRITE IN WHATEVER THEY WAS TO BRING, FROM SODA OR CHIPS, TO VEGGIES, OR SALAD OR MAC AND CHEESE OR WHATEVER PLEASES THEM. I AM SURE THERE WILL BE AT LEAST ONE MAIN DISH ALONG WITH LOTS OF SIDES AND DESSERTS.
I KNOW I WAS THANKFUL THAT ONE MADE SALADS, TWO KINDS,(THE ONE WHO ORIGINALLY SUGGESTED WE MAKE MY ROAST A PARTY), AND ONE BROUGHT APPLESAUCE AS WELL AS A LEMON CHIFFON CAKE SHE BOUGHT. I ALSO BROUGHT PAPER PLATES IN DIFFERENT SIZES, AND A CHEESE AND CHIP PLATTER. WE HAD SEVERAL SALT AND PEPPER SHAKERS AND PLASTIC CUTLERY STASHED IN OUR KITCHEN CUPBOARDS. YES, WE HAVE A SMALL KITCHEN IN OUR COMMON ROOM WITH REFRIDGERATOR AND MICROWAVE OVEN, A DOUBLE SINK, AND LOTS OF CUPPBOARD AND DRAWER SPEACE.
WE CHATTED FOR A LONG TIME. IT LASTED A GOOD 2 HRS. I WAS POOPED. STILL, IT WAS A VERY GOOD TIME. I AM GLAD PEGGY SUGGESTED THE ROAST BE A PARTY. IT GAVE US A REASON TO GET TOGETHER IN ANOTHER MANNER IN FUTURE. NOW I AM MORE ACTIVE THAN EVER AND ENJOYING IT,
TODAY I HAVE LAPS TO DO BUT LITTLE ELSE. OH YAH, I HAVE A SOME DISHES TO DO. I ONLY WASHED A COUPLE OF POTS AND A COLANDER LAST NITE. THE REST ARE PILED IN MY SINK. I GOT MY PILLS SORTED FOR ANOTHER WEEK. FINISHED ONE BOOK LAST NITE AND HAVE TO START ANOTHER COZY MURDER MYSTERY TODAY. MY PUZZLE AWAITS TOO.
BJ.....SORRY TO HEAR YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES LATELY. I KNOW YOU KEEP GOING REGARDLESS. YOU HAVE A GREAT ATTITUDE. PRAYING YOU ARE DOING BETTER IN THE NEXT DAY OR TWO. HUGS FOR YOU GIRL.
CAROL......MY SON WAS SCHEDULED FOR A WEEKEND IN CHARLESTON WITH HIS LOVELY WIFE FOR HER BIRTHDAY, BUT THEY COULD NOT FLY INTO CHARLESTON DUE TO SEVERE THUNDER STORMS. ALL FLIGHTS INTO CHARLESTON WERE CANCELLED SO THEY ARE SPENDING THEIR 2 NITES IN BOSTON INSTEAD.
YOU SOUND VERY BUSY WITH YOUR MERMAID PROJECT AND YOUR SEWING. ITS GOOD YOU MADE A FEW SAMPLES TO SEE WHAT WORKS AND DOESN'T. VERY SMART I THINK.
I HOPE THERE ARE MORE DOLLS AND PICS OF THEM FOR YOU TO POST FOR US TO SEE. YOU ARE SO DARN TALENTED. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
IT LOOKS LIKE THINGS ARE A BIT SLOW WITH YOU LADIES. I GUESS ITS THAT KIND OF SUMMER. NOT MUCH HAPPENING THAT ISN'T USUAL. WE ARE STILL ALL HOPING FOR RAIN SOON IN OUR AREA. ITS GETTING DRY IN THE FORESTS AND WE HAVE THOUSANDS OF ACRES OF WOODLAND HERE IN OUR STATE. WE DO NOT WANT ANY FIRES.
STAY SAFE MY FRIENDS. HUGS FOR YOU ALL. QB S

Sandra - glad to hear your dinner went so well. I’ve never been a fan of pot luck, unless there are actual sign ups for main dishes, sides, desserts, etc. Otherwise, like at my guilds pot luck holiday you ind up with half bringing nothing.
Last year we had 60+ attendees, and had 2 main dishes, a cold cut platter, about 12 desserts, chips, crackers cheese and a few deli salads. Plus they charged $10 each for “incidentals”. Most complained but I’ll bet they do it again. This started a few years ago, until then we either had it catered or we went to a local restaurant. Always reasonably priced. 🤷♀️ I’ll probably pass this year and just go out with friends.
Cold last night…59*. This is August for heavens sake.
Did I mention that DH backed into a tree yesterday? Glad it wasn’t me.

Good Morning, I'm not very bright this morning. It is so still outside, not a breath of air moving anything around. Not even the tallest trees are moving. Tracy is still sleeping and Frank is up and getting ready. I really don't have a thing to say this morning, so will sign off, wishing you all well, BJ.

Sandra, sounds like your dinner party was fun! And making the next one a potluck with signups is a great idea. Like Janet said, a potluck without signups is a recipe for disaster.
The past two days I’ve had lower back pain. I think it’s the mattress, because it hurts when I get up and is fine by evening. I had PT yesterday and I think that helped it.
Carol, I admire your talent with dolls! They seem so fidgety to make.
Ralph has a trail camera out to the side where we put food for the animals. We have foxes, deer, raccoons and possums that come.
My girls are all home safely. I think Amary and G start school Monday. They usually start after Labor Day but =26pxthe district is trying something new.
I don’t remember if I told you guys about the shoes I got. My PT recommended them. They are called barefoot shoes, and are kind of like water shoes. Very thin sole. I love them! I got them for about $25 on amazon. I walk so much better without that thick sole.
It’s getting chilly at night here, but in the 80’s and has been humid from the hurricane, so we still have the AC on.

Holly, I'm glad you like the shoes. Good to hear that everyone is home safely.
Judy, did you get together with ML and see the quilt?
Sandra, good that others are stepping up to help you with some of the burdens. Your community sounds delightful.
Yes, the dolls can get fidgety, but I like fidgety things. I love to applique, embroider, cross-stitch, bead, etc. So, the dolls are fun. However, they can get a little overwhelming, so that's the reason for all of the other stuff.
So, August in Edinburgh is full of festivals. The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is 75 years old this year, started in 1950 as a tribute to the people who fought and who maintained lives on the homefront during the war. It's mostly bagpipers and drummers, but other bands also perform. There was a group from the Ukrainian Navy, another from the Polish Army, the US Air Force Close Order Rifle Team (they're the ones who throw bayoneted rifles at each other), and the US Army Fife and Drum Corps from Williamsburg. I'll post picture later of the Esplanade in front of Edinburgh Castle. They set up a temporary arena on the roadway that leads from the castle drawbridge. It seats just under 9,000 people, and it's packed every night. Tickets sell out months in advance. It's been a long-time dream to see that, so I was thrilled to be there.
There is an international film festival, an international classical music festival, and the Fringe Festival. It's pretty much anything goes. Any space that can be turned into a performance venue is. Think churches, office conference spaces, pubs, the street, the sidewalks, open spaces in front of big buildings. The main street, officially High Street, but called the Royal Mile because it runs between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyrood House is closed to vehicle traffic every morning about 9:30 AM and is closed until midnight. It's jam-packed. Try to walk on the sidewalk, and you run into a cafe that put out sidewalk seating, a sidewalk performer (so many bagpipers) or a souvenir shop with merchandise out front. Move into the street, and you run into acrobats, fire-eaters, pianists (yes they drag pianos out there), singers, actors. Oh, and every five feet you get stopped by someone in a costume handing you a flyer for their performance. It's just one glorious mess. If you're claustrophobic, it might be too much. Fortunately, there are alleys to duck into where it's quieter. When I was there before, it was easier to find some of the smaller museums and really nice souvenirs. Now it's a big tourist trap which was rather disheartening.
