Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

It's 97 here now and I'm in the rest of the day. The last two days have been the hottest of the year. Thank goodness there are lower temps next week when school starts back.

Cheryl, I had to laugh about your comment on running.  I'm the same way. I do good to walk without falling. I'm trying to decide what to do about my bad knees. My biggest problem is getting up from a table after I have sat there too long. I keep putting off knee replacement surgery. A year ago my orthopedic doctor said I wasn't at that stage yet. Since Holly has had the surgery and still has knee problems, it makes me even more leary.

Theresa, so glad you are on top of things. I don't know about this place where she is!

Holly, so sorry for your SIL's loss. How unusual that happened 3 times to your family while you were on Alaska cruises.

Gracie is doing better. I mix the powder with her food so I'm glad her appetite is back. She doesn't even know it's in there. No more shampooing the carpet! Think I will keep her on these probiotics forever.

I met Greg and Carter for lunch. We went to Chilis. It's been a long time since we have been there. I always get the chicken bacon ranch quesadillas.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

Devonne, my pre surgery and post surgery issues are very different. Pre surgery, my knees felt unstable and hurt all the time. Post surgery, they are stable, and just ache if I stand too long or walk too long. Of course, I couldn’t kneel pre surgery and still can’t post surgery. The barometric pressure bothered the pre, and still does post. So pick your poison.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

We had some wicked storms last night.  A confirmed tornado touched down to the west of us but caused just damage to a barn.  A kid's trampoline was caught up in the electric lines.  We had lots of rain, which was fine with us since out dirt was so parched it was cracking.  My area needed rain.

Dean had the double knee surgery and is so glad he did.  He has  zero knee pain and he can kneel somewhat for a short time. He has been pain free for 8 years now.  He had both knees done at the same time.  The recovery and PT was rough, but he said it was worth it.  He had such pain when he walked, it showed on his face.

Another hot one today, but hopefully by the end of the week we will get some relief.  This soupy humidity is awful for sure.  Poor Gabriel is away at band camp, and those poor kids march all day learning routines.  I know the band director will keep an eye on the weather, but it is still hot for them.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

It's 10 degrees cooler today and supposed to rain. I'll take it!

Holly, did you have trouble getting up from a sitting position? It's embarrassing at a restaurant. I had to get Carter to help me up at the mexican restaurant last week. That was a first time to ask for help. It's also harder getting out of the booths, I always have to hold onto the table to get up. I'll recommend a table from now on. Having weak ankles doesn't help either, lol.

I'm getting ready for Fall. I ordered 3 pair of SAS Tripad slip on shoes from Ebay. They are all new. I got a beige pair 5 years ago & I'm still wearing them. The colors I got are black, brown and a dark wine. $175 on Amazon and I paid $70 each. They're my favorite slip on shoes.

Linda, hope your checkup goes good today! I will probably be decluttering until I'm no longer here, lol.

Gracie is still asleep and it's after 11. She slept on the sofa all night and is still there. Normally when I walk by, she gets up. Not this time. She is older than Molly, either by a year or six months.

SIGNS OF THE TIMES......
1.  IN A TOY DEPARTMEMT: FIVE SANTA CLAUSES.  NO WAITING.
2.  ON A NEW YORK CONVALESCENT HOME:  FOR THE SICK AND TIRED OF THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH.

A BIT COOLER TODAY.  WILL ONLY HIT 87.  YESTERDAY WE REACHED 93.  LUCKY ME I DID NOT HAVE TO GO OUT IN IT.

I FINISHED THE JIGSAW PUZZLE AT LAST.  IT WAS TOUGHER THAN USUAL FOR BOTH ME AND JUDY WHO IS A REGULAR PUZZLE WORKER.  I WILL BEGIN ANOTHER ONE TODAY.

MY DAY IS NORMAL.  SLOW WITH A FEW CHORES BUT NOTHING TOUGH.  I HAD TO DRAIN-O MY SHOWER DRAIN AFTER MY SHOWER.  IT WAS REALLY SLOW.  AFTER A HALF HOUR OF THE MIX, IT DRAINED PERFECTLY AGAIN.
I LOST ANOTHER POUND.  YIPPEE.  ITS GOING TO BE SLOW GOING FROM NOW ON I THINK.  I WILL DO MORE LAPS SO THAT MAY HELP.  AND EXCERCISES OF THE ARMS AND LEGS.  I CHEATED A BIT LAST NITE HAVING ABOUT 7 POTATO CHIPS AFTER I HAD A 1-SCOOP HOT FUDGE SUNDAE FOR MY SNACK EARLIER.  I LOVE THAT I CAN EAT MY USUAL FOODS BUT JUST LESS OF THEM.  I DON'T FEEL DEPRIVED.
BINGO TONITE.  WISH ME LUCK.
THAT'S IT LADIES.  NOTHING EXCITING HERE.  SAME OLD, SAME OLD.
HUGS FOR YOU ALL.  STAY SAFE.  QB S
HEADS UP.....MY SOC. SEC. CHECK IS ALREADY PENDING IN MY BANK ACCT.  EARLY.  USUALLY ITS NOT TIL THE 3RD OF THE MONTH.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

DEVONNE that is why I do the exercise class, I can stand from sitting anywhere, occasionally use my hands on the chair arms, plus just walking, bending, carrying heavy things, the classes have helped me a lot. Especially with aches and pains in joints.

SANDRA good for you with the weight loss, keep it up, a couple more little walks and some moving some cans as weights for your arms. Go you!!!

STRINGS hope you did well on the tests. It's the decluttering I have trouble with too, I need to get more out!!

PLEASE keep my niece in your thought and prayers, she's in hospital, seems to be doing OK, they think it's pre eclampsia, baby is due in a few weeks, her blood pressure was really high, baby was moving rapidly,  they have taken blood every 2 hours overnight, decisions to be made today - hopefully. She is in good spirits, my sis is in Bali, due home tomorrow night, so we are all worried. Chloe always makes light of everything, this is dangerous though, her hubby is so worried.

I can't think straight, I'll check in later (((hugs))))

Afternoon y'all!

So humid we are drinking the air!  Morning walk was good, now it's done and I am home for the rest of the day!

Mom is still in bed, nobody has put her in the wheelchair since Monday or they put it back the exact way I left it.  I think she is still getting the med, she is so out of it!  I need to talk to the hospice nurse so that when she goes in to see her again this week she can check!  They all run scared when I show up!

Nothing else new here.  Just taking care of mom, and trying to find my house again!

Later my Friends!

FROM READER'S DIGEST'S LIFE IN THESE UNITED STATES.....
DRIVING ACROSS SOUTH DAKOTA, I BROUGHT ALONG TWO TRUSTED AIDS: A GPS TO HELP ME NAVIGATE AND AN AUDIO VERSION OF THE BIBLE TO KEEP ME CALM.  BOTH DID THEIR JOBS WELL, EVEN THOUGH EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE GPS INTERRUPTED THE GOOD BOOK'S NARRATION.
DURING ONE ACCOUNT OF GOD LEADING THE ISRAELITES THRU THE WILDERNESS, THIS IS WHAT I HEARD:  "AND THE LORD SAID TO MOSES....IN 2 MILES, TAKE EXIT 110."

SUNNY AND IN THE 70S.  NICE.

I LOST 1.75 AT BINGO LAST NITE BUT THE COMRADERIE WAS GREAT.  I ALWAYS ENJOY IT.

WENT TO CRAFT MORNING BUT IT WAS MOSTLY CHATTING.  I ENJOY THOSE MORNINGS EVEN WHEN I GET LITTLE DONE ON MY PROJECTS.

LINDA.....SORRY FOR YOU FAMILY LOSS.  I KNOW HE SUFFERED, BUT ITS STILL HARD FOR THOSE THAT ARE LEFT TO TAKE A LOSS LIKE THAT. HUGS.

DEVONNE.....I HOPE GRACIE IS BETTER TODAY.  SHE MISSES HER BUDDY.

I HAVE A CASSEROLE TO MAKE TODAY BUT STILL NOT DECIDED WHICH TO MAKE.  IT WILL HAVE PORK CHOPS, BUT WHETHER WITH RICE OR POTATOES IS STILL UNKNOWN.

MY FAVORITE SERIES TO READ IS THE MRS. POLLIFAX BOOKS.  YESTERDAY I FOUND 5 OF THEM IN LARGE PRINT AT THRIFTBOOKS SO I ORDERED THEM.  I WANT TO BE ABLE TO READ THEM WHEN I'M EVEN OLDER THAN NOW. I AM EAGER TO REREAD THEM ONCE AGAIN.

WISHING YOU ALL A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

Today was much cooler.  I had my windows all open but had to shut them because of the cool air.  It was a high of 69, which is a huge change.  Supposed to be lovely the next three days and I am looking forward to them.

I made pork chops with sauerkraut for supper.  Dean and I love sauerkraut.  Neither of my sons will touch it.  lol!  Both DILs like it.  It is so hard to make just a little of it because as much as we like it, we cannot eat it for days.

Theresa, so sorry for what your mom is going through at that place.

Devonne, I saw on Facebook that lemon cake you made and saw your post about it.  It does look good.  Did the condensed milk make it really sweet?

Trish, prayers for Chloe and the baby.

Nothing else to say, so will close for now.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

I'm back, sorta kinda.

Devonne, I'm so sorry about Molly.  You know you did the right thing in not letting her suffer, but it's so hard to be a responsible adult.

Trish, prayers for Chloe.  Deep down she must be really scared.  Good for you for keeping up with the exercises in your own way.

Linda, hoping for better health and news for you.

Theresa, when I'm old and sick, you are going to have to come to Houston to be my healthcare advocate.  No one does it better than you.

I hope Judy, Cheryl, and Holly are all okay with the storms in those areas.  It looks bad.

So, I've been hiding out trying to baby a possibly broken bone in my hand.  Yeah, I know I should remember that I'm 68 years old, and swinging a baseball bat at a major league pitching machine should probably not happen.  The worst part was not my hand, but passing out a few minutes later.  I had been at the ballpark all day with summer camp, I had eaten, I had drunk enough (I thought), so maybe it was an electrolyte problem?  Not sure.  I sat down when I didn't feel well, and when I realized I had a huge lump on my hand my boss told me to go see the first aid guy and get an ice pack.  The next thing I knew he was pushing me back into my seat and telling me to sit down.  The first aid guy came to me.  Low blood pressure, low pulse rate, not good. I now know that the netting that protects fans from errant bats and balls also keeps fans from toppling over onto the field.  After some Powerade (yuck) and water, I drove myself home with my boss following me to make sure I was okay.  Not one of my better days.  I went to the doctor after two weeks, and we're awaiting x-ray results.  I saw the images, and there isn't anything displaced, so I just have to wait for the radiologist.  Blood tests for electrolytes were all normal.  So yeah, my hand hurts, and I haven't wanted to use a keyboard much.

I'm also in countdown mode to my Scotland trip on Monday.  I'll be gone a week.  I still need to get a UK electrical adapter, an extra memory card for my camera, and notify the phone company that I'm traveling and pay for an international travel plan.  It's $35 for ten days, so not bad.  I need to get my itinerary lined up so that Glen will know where I am.  I have my Scottish money, I've notified the credit card companies, and I've scoped out more things to see than I could possibly do, but that's okay.  It's my bucket list trip from my 2020 retirement, and I'm so excited.  I planned and reserved everything myself because I couldn't find a tour I liked, and I couldn't convince anyone to go with me.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

Carol, we had a lot of thunder and lightning, and a decent amount of rain, but we sit high and -knock wood- have never flooded. Steph and Dan are planning Scotland next year. My great grandmother was a Hamilton, and a Lowlander.

Devonne, I do use the table or booth back for support when standing up. Part of my PT is strengthening my ankles. Here’s the two home exercises:

1. stand by a kitchen counter to hold onto. Stand with one leg in front of the other. Kind of rock, so the front foot toes come up, and the back foot heels go down. Do 10, then switch legs (I turn so I hold the counter with the other hand), do 10. Rest and repeat. Do the exercise twice a day.

2. sit on a straight chair, like a kitchen chair. Feet flat on the floor. Raise you toes times 10, rest, do another ten. The lift your heels times 10, rest, so another set. Do the exercise twice a day.

With the first exercise, my right toes barely raised, now after 3 weeks, the front of my foot raises.

Carol, wow on the hand!

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

I got a heartbreaking text from Gary. It said "this is the last picture I took of Maverick before he was hit and killed by a car last night." Remember I posted they bought mini Australian Shepherds last year? Gary admitted it was his fault and now he's seeing what kind of fence can be put up to protect the other dogs.

Linda, so sorry for the loss of your cousin. Hugs!

Trish, prayers for Chloe. I think my knees are beyond exercise; it would be too painful. If I stumble the least little bit, I can really feel it then.

Carol, I wish Glenn would go with you. I can't imagine going on a long trip that far away by myself. I hope the bone isn't broken. Glad you were taken good care of at the park.

Sandra, I got a good laugh out of this one...Moses and the interstate, lol.

Cheryl, I quit using condensed milk when I made a key lime pie many years ago because I thought it was too sweet. This is not the case with this cake. It doesn't taste very sweet at all.

Sadie Grace and Caleb start school tomorrow. Crazy to start school on a Friday! Carter starts Monday; he's in the next county over.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

SANDRA like DEVONNE I got a good laugh out of Moses too!!

STRINGS so sorry you have another test scheduled, and sorry also for your family loss, even expected it's still hard ((( hugs)))

CAROL ouch on the hand, will you be OK traveling with it, lots to carry - be careful, maybe a support for your hand?? My gosh, I am envious, Edinburgh, is great, but so are many parts of Scotland, very crowded at this time, but enjoy every moment, the taxi services are pretty good too, and you are good with walking, pretty easy to get around. The battle fields at Culloden are ok, not a lot there, but you can walk the battle field. So much to see, I'm sure you will have a great time!

DEVONNE I am so sorry for Gary, awful for the poor dog, he has a lot to fence doesn't he.

THANK YOU for the good thoughts for Chloe, I spent the day with her today, they finally released her, with medication, full instructions what to watch for, and to be back on Tuesday - when we think they will have a plan, they feel while baby is OK and she is also (at this time ) medication and blood tests to monitor both her and baby  - they would rather she be a little further along, as they said it's a balancing act, keep them both stable as long as possible then deliver baby. He's due around 20th August. So fingers crossed they decide that he will be born next week. He's big enough, weighs 8.5LB according to their scans.

I gave Lyndon (hubby ) cash for them to get takeaway tonight and  probably tomorrow as well, give him a break, he's a great cook, but he's been very worried, gave them the quilt and packs of nappies and the baby carry bag as well. They are both going to need a little extra as this has been unexpected. Lyndon was reluctant to accept but I insisted. Chloe was really grateful, I gave them veg and lentil soup as well, she messaged me later, Lyndon enjoyed it, and she was amazed as he usually doesn't like just veg soup, he's a  "give me meat man" LOL

Absolutely poured most of the way driving, but I made it home fine, it was a bit scary at times, some of the drivers on the freeway are crazy, no headlights on and speeding, plus the big trucks!!!  water pouring off them, making it hard to see - people are so impatient!

See you tomorrow, I might get some sleep, sis is about 2 hours from home ( I hope), her flight was delayed, and I am not as worried as I was last couple nights. She hasn't messaged me, so I hope she has landed! It's almost 10pm.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

FROM READER'S DIGEST.....
WE'RE NOT SURE WE WANT TO KNOW THE FULL STORY BEHIND THIS HEADLINE SPOTTED IN THE BANGOR (MAINE) DAILY NEWS:  'MAINE MAN GETS FIRST MOOSE AND BRIDE-TO-BE THE SAME DAY'

WE GOT SOME RAIN SHOWERS YESTERDAY BUT TODAY AND TOMORROW WE EXPECT SUNSHINE WITH 70S TEMPS.  LOVELY.
YIKES, ITS AUGUST FIRST.  WHERE DOES THE TIME GO.

TRISH.....THAT'S GOOD NEWS FOR CHLOE.  AND WHAT YOU DID FOR THEM WAS SO NICE, TOO.  I'M SURE IT ALL HELPED.  MY PRAYERS AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS CONTINUE FOR HER THAT SHE GETS THRU THIS OK AND DELIVERS SAFELY.

DEVONNE......SUCH A SAD NOTE ABOUT GARY'S DOG.  I AM SURE THE FAMILY IS DEVASTATED AND HIM FEELING BLAME MAKES IT SO MUCH TOUGHER FOR HIM.  GIVE HIM AN EXTRA HUG FROM ME WHEN YOU SEE HIM.

HOLLY....THANKS FOR THAT SIMPLE EXERCISE.  AT MY AGE I LOOK FOR THE SIMPLE ONES AND THOSE ARE NOW ADDED TO MY REPERTOIRE.  MY ARM AND LEG EXERCISES I CAN DO ON MY SOFA WITH MY LEGS ON THE OTTOMAN.  FOR MY ARMS I HAVE BOTH 3 AND 5-LB WEIGHTS TO USE.  IT ALL HELPS.

CAROL.....NICE TO SEE YOU POSTING.  SORRY ABOUT THE MISHAP.  I HOPE THE DIAGNOSIS ISN'T TOO BAD.

I HAVE LAUNDRY THAT NEEDS DOING SO THAT TOPS MY LIST TODAY.  A LITTLE OF THIS AND A LITTLE OF THAT WILL KEEP ME BUSY.
NEIGHBOR NEXT DOOR, SHARON, BROUGHT ME A CONTAINER OF HER HOMEMADE HAMBURGER SOUP.  MMMM, IT WAS GOOD.  I SEEM TO HAVE STARTED A GOOD THING HERE.  IN FACT, THE MAINTENANCE GUY WAS IN TO PUT UP A NEW VENETIAN BLIND FOR ME AND SAID THAT HE THINKS ITS WONDERFUL HOW WE ALL LOOK OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER IN THIS BUILDING AND SEE THAT NO ONE GOES HUNGRY WHEN THEY ARE FEELING ILL.  AND IT ALL STARTED ONLY A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN MY NEIGHBOR JAN CAME HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL AND I BROUGHT HER A MEAL.  I JUST KEPT IT UP AFTERWARDS.  NOW OTHERS ARE STARTING TO SHARE AS WELL.  ITS ALL A GOOD THING.

PLEASE SEND YOUR PRAYERS AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS HERE FOR MY GRDAU GINA.  SHE IS FINALLY IN THE HOSPITAL TO FIND THE CAUSES OF A CONTINOUS HEADACHE.  IT JUST STARTED SEVERAL DAYS AGO AND WON'T RELENT.  SHE'S BEEN TO THE E.R. TWICE BEFORE AND THIS 3RD TIME THEY SENT HER TO BE ADMITTED TO THE MAINE MEDICAL CENTER WHICH IS OUR BIGGEST AND BEST HOSIPITAL WHEN IT COMES TO DIAGNOSING AND TREATMENT.  WE PRAY THEY FIND THE ANSWER.  SHE CAUGHT LYME DISEASE SOME YEARS AGO AND THAT OFTEN BITES HER IS THE TUSH WITH SOME PROBLEM OR OTHERS OVER THE YEARS.  MAYBE THIS IS ANOTHER BITE.  WE WANT HER TO LOSE THE PAIN.

THAT'S IT LADIES.  BE SAFE.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

Good Morning, it is a lovely day, very sunny and quite breezy!  Gorgeous day!!!  It is nearly 65*.  Can't believe it is August already, but time does slip by.
Hard to believe it is August.  Have no idea what today brings.  Just  another week and Tracy leaves for Maine.  Hope she has a lovely time.  She'll only be gone for a week.   Then another week and Larissa will begin her first day as an RN.  Then one more day and Tracy will be back to work.  Time sure does slip by rapidly!!!

I think it  is time for me to sign off, as I'm not thinking too well this morning.  Have a wonderful day, everyone, BJ.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

Kimmel does a bit on the first of the month, just clips of shows all over the country saying “Can you believe it’s (insert month here)”, so funny.

Sandra, I’m glad you can use the exercises! Devonne, some ortho’s recommend PT before knee surgery, to strengthen the muscles that support the knee. Something to consider.

I just got home from PT. It’s so much cooler today after the rain! Only 70 now.

Tomorrow is the funeral for SIL Donna’s mom.

Sandra, I’m glad your granddaughter is admitted and hope they find the cause. Lyme’s can really mess up a person. My friend Barbara had it and it left her with arthritis of her knee.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 27 ~ SATURDAY AUGUST 2

I met with my radiation oncologist. I told him my concern about my left side being larger than the right, like a little incline. He said it was only fatty tissue. He said I would not have needed radiation if I didn't have cancer in one lymph node. The reason they did radiation on my neck was because of the lymph nodes. A super nice guy and explained all my questions.

I invited Gary to lunch to get us out of the house. We went to Texas Roadhouse. I got the herb chicken, which is always good. Hannah hugged him when he was burying Maverick. He said she hasn't hugged him in 20 years. As I have told you before, she doesn't show any emotions.

I think he must mean fencing only in front where the road is. I suggested they fence in a large area for the dogs when they're outside; not let them roam all over the land. I told him last week I was afraid to come down there because the dogs run under vehicles. He said just go slow, they will move. Hannah ran over Macy last year and had a big vet bill. They don't always move out of the way! I thought Maverick was only a year old, but Gary said he was 3 years old. It was an unnecessary death and Gary knows that without Mom pounding it in.

We went to Sams Club after lunch. I haven't been there in 5 years. I thought I liked Sams Club better than Costco, but Costco has more of the things I buy. I couldn't find any Monkfruit sweetener at Sams and no Vitamin water. I also like the little bottled water and I didn't see those.
