Forgot to mention above. My dad was a cook when he was in the National Guard assigned to of all places…Central Park, NY! He had an “essential “ homeland job related to medical research. He only knew how to cook for large groups, lol. So every weekend he went to the camp and cooked for the Guard units. Like I said he was a good cook….just messy.

Hoping everyone is staying cool and recovering from the ailments. It's been a rough start to the summer.
Holly, how is your S6? I have one, and I love it. I didn't have trouble with the threading, but I sure did with the bobbin winding. Of course, it was user error. Did you ever get your HQ up and running? Mine is okay at the moment, but it's going on vacation until the service tech can come and rework it.
Theresa, any more news on your mom?
Sandra, hoping the doctor gave you some good answers today.
BJ, hoping you are recovering. You too, Janet.
Devonne, how is Molly?
Judy, I hope Howard finished the grass without any further mishaps.
I like to cook sometimes. Every night is a pain. I have a set of recipes, but I do try new things every once in a while. My mom was a great cook, but she used every utensil and pot. Literally, one day I watched her use three bowls and two pans to scramble half a dozen eggs. It was my job to clean up. Needless to say, I use as few as possible and clean as I go.
My latest quilt. It's going to the MD Anderson Ovarian Cancer Awareness Quilt Auction that they hold every other year. I went with a Texas theme this year.

TWO-HEADED HEADLINES......
1. WAR DIMS HOPE FOR PEACE.
2. IF STRIKE ISN'T SETTLED QUICKLY, IT MAY LAST A WHILE.
ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY HERE IN THE NORTH COUTRY. LOVE LIVING IN MAINE.
MY CARDIO APPT HAD TO BE RESCHEDULED. MY GRDAU HAD A GASTRO APPT THAT CONFLICTED AND IF SHE CANCELLED SHE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT SEVERAL MONTHS TO SEE THE SPECIALIST. SO MY NEW APPT IS FOR A WEEK FROM TODAY.
I WAS ABLE TO GO TO THE BAR-B-Q AFTER ALL. IT WAS INDOORS. MGMT GRILLED THE BURGERS AND HOT DOGS ON OUR PATIO AND BROUGHT THEM TO THE COMMON ROOM SO WE COULD SIT IN AIR-CONDITIONED COMFORT. THE BAR-B-Q CHICKEN WAS DELISH. I HAD A BURGER AS WELL ALONG WITH POTATO SALAD, SLICED TOMATOES, PICKLES, WATERMELON, CHIPS AND SPRITE. THERE WERE A FEW DIFFERENT CAKES AND FRUITS FOR DESSERT. THEY SURE DID A GOOD ONE THIS YEAR.
TONITE IS BINGO AND I WILL NOT MISS IT TONITE. I ALSO HAVE A FEW EASY CHORES TO DO LIKE GO THRU MY OLD RECEIPTS AND TOSS THOSE OVER A YEAR OLD AND SORT MY MEDICAL STUFF SO ITS ALL CURRENT. THOSE BILLS MAKE A DIFFERENCE WHEN THEY RENEW MY LEASE. THE MORE MEDICAL BILLS I PAY THE LESS MY RENT.
TONITE I'LL MAKE CHICKEN RICE SOUP AND A BIG POT OF IT SO I CAN SHARE.
I REDID MY EATING PLAN AND KNOCKED OFF SOME OF THE SHARING DISHES, MOSTLY CASSEROLES, SO I HAVE A BIT MORE MONEY I CAN SAVE. I WILL HAVE ENOUGH TO PAY FOR THE CLEANING ONCE A MONTH FOR SURE. ITS A RELIEF TO KNOW THAT THE TOUGHER JOBS WILL BE DONE BY OTHERS, LIKE MY DAU AND GRDAU.
MY LIBRATIAN SALLY CAME BY YESTERDAY AND BROUGHT ME A 'DISASTER RELIEF' BAG. ITS A KNAPSACK WITH SOME ESSENTIALS SHOULD THERE BE A DISASTER. THINGS LIKE SOFT BLANKET, EMERGENCY RADIO, FIRE BLANKET, WATER BOTTLES, A COUPLE OF SMALL FIRST AID KITS, SEVERAL HANDY LITTLE TOOLS, WHISTLE ON A CORD, BATTERY LANTERN AND THINGS LIKE THAT. I WILL BRING IT TO BINGO TONITE TO SHOW THE GIRLS AND IF THEY WANT ONE FOR THEMSELVES, I HAVE A NUMBER THEY CAN CALL. THEY ARE FREE TO US ELDERLY IN OUR TOWN.
TRISH.......YOUR SNUG IS DIFFERENT THAN OUR PUP TENTS, THAT'S FOR SURE. OURS IS A TINY ONE-MAN TENT, NOT A SLEEPING BAG.
CAROL.....THAT'S A LOVELY QUILT. YOU ARE VERY TALENTED.
DEVONNE......MY TOY POODLE CHERIE HAD CUSHINGS BUT THAT WAS OVER 20 YEARS AGO. I'M SURE THE CARE HAS IMPROVED SINCE THEN. AT THE TIME SHE HAD TO TAKE PILLS DAILY WHICH COST $90 A MONTH AND BE RE-TESTED EVERY 3 MONTHS AT A COST OF A LITTLE OVER $300 A TIME. IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF MAINTENANCE. I HOPE DEAR MOLLY CAN GET THE HELP SHE NEEDS.
FOR THOSE 'TALKING' ABOUT COOKING......I NEVER LIKED TO COOK IN MY EARLY YEARS. NO ONE TAUGHT ME BUT IT WAS A NECESSITY THAT I HAD TO DO SINCE I HAD A FAMILY. I WORKED A FULL-TIME JOB AND KEPT A VERY CLEAN HOUSE, WITH MY HUBBY'S HELP, BUT EXCEPT FOR A FEW DISHES LIKE AN EGG AND POTATO HASH AND MEATBALLS, HE DID NOT COOK. I WAS NEVER A GOOD COOK, JUST PASSABLE. NOW IN MY LATE YEARS I HAVE ADDED MORE DISHES TO MY MENU AND SOME OF THEM I SHARE BECAUSE THE FOLKS LIKE THEM. I ALSO HAVE MORE TIME TO COOK. IN THE OLD DAYS I HAD NO TIME. I WAS MORE INTO KEEPING A CLEAN HOUSE AND TAKING THE KIDS ON DAY TRIPS AND SUNDAY DRIVES.
WELL, ITS TIME FOR MY SHOWER AND TO GET BUSY. HAVE A GOOD DAY LADIES. HUGS FOR YOU ALL, QB S

I'm not sure what makes a good cook? Is it ingredients? technique? innate talent? I know I don't have a knack for looking at a list of ingredients and being able to tell if they'll provide a certain taste.
BTW, yesterday after my hair cut, I was trying to decide where we should eat lunch. I always have to pick but once in awhile he'll at least agree instead of saying, "whatever you want". I just tossed it out, and, wonder of wonders, while not commenting, he drove to Val's where we ate with our small group just last Friday...with the wonderful salads and beef bombs which we ordered again. Then it was grocery shopping to the tune of $128. But, there's a watermelon, an avocado (for me), Hershey's Kisses and fresh salmon in the mix so we have something here to pick from..
Carol, beautiful. You're such an ARTISTE! I love Texas themes. Have some frig magnets sent thru the years from a TX friend..."Texas Sweet Texas", "Someone in Texas Loves You", etc. On our way to town, we pass by a pasture that has a herd of long horns, totally unusual in Indiana, but charming to me. Seems like I'm always reminiscing about something, lately...
Howard has gone to lunch with the ROMEOS. He woke up with a headache and I figured that would be out of the question. But it left and he went! The silence here is deafening. Even the bird, upstairs is quiet.
QB, I'm glad to hear the cleaning plan is going to work out. And, it will be nice to see your family more often with a plan like that in place. Wish you could have seen your cardio, but not too long a wait for that.
Going outside for a bit, then I'm up for one of my half finished projects instead of lolling around while he's gone. See you soon. Have a good day.

Just when you think nothing else can happen. …I went to my eye dr, luckily they fit me in this morning. After a day and night with red itchy eyes that were definitely not allergy…I called when they opened. Blepheritis , just as I thought. I’ve had it before, not in a few years. No big deal,..two weeks of antibiotic drops several times a day.
What next 😵💫?

Carol, now that I have the silly thing threaded, I really like it. I’m still winding bobbins on the 6500, it has the separate motor for that and is super easy. It took Ralph reading me directions as I threaded it - mostly the problem was the needle threader. As for the HQ, I think when I had her serviced, the tech loosened her all the way. I’m still not happy with the tension.
Another hot one! We went to breakfast at the diner, since Ralph’s usual Thursday Vet’s group all cancelled, then to the library.
I’m reading a brand new book called It Happened On The Lake by Lisa Jackson. I was slightly intimidated because it’s 600 pages, but it’s going really fast. It’s really good so far.
My July 4th plan is to celebrate that 250 years ago we fought a war to not have a king. And maybe grill hot dogs on the Forman grill.

GOOD MORNING!
CAUGHT UP READING THIS WEEK. NOT SO FOR LAST WEEK.
NO PLANS FOR TOMORROW. HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD HOLIDAY.
BOFH MY GRANDMOTHER'S WERE VERY GOOD COOKS. MIL WAS GOOD TO BUT SHE OVERCOOKED A FEW THINGS. MY MOM AND DAD WERE GOOD COOKS. AT TIMES HE CRITICIZED HER COOKING LIKE SEASONING ETC. IF SHE TRIED SOMETHING HE DIDN'T LIKE, HE WOULD SAY IT WAS A POPCORN NIGHT. HE DID MAKE VERY GOOD POPCORN. ONE TIME MOM WAS OUT OF TOWN AND WHILE OUT AND ABOUT RAN INTO ONE OF HER FRIENDS. SHE ASKED US IF WE WERE FIXING SUPER FOR OUR DAD. WE LAUGHED AND AT HER OERPLEXITY, TOLD HER DAD'S GARDEN WAS COMING IN AND HE WAS FIXING OUR SUPERS.
HAVE A GREAT 4th!
THINKING OF EVERYONE. PRAYERS........................

Greg got his new Tesla yesterday. He and Carter took an Uber to the pickup place, 45 miles away. He let the Tesla drive them home and never touched the steering wheel. It changed lanes and did everything. Kinda scary if you ask me! This is not free, but he has it for a month. It's $99 a month. In his older Tesla, you had to keep your hands on the steering wheel; not anymore! Amazing technology, but it's not for this old lady.
Carol, that is a beauty!! Are you still doing the ballpark tours? Any substitute teaching? I won't know about Molly until the bloodwork comes back in about a week. I looked at the vet bill wrong. Thought it was $565, but it was $593!
For July 4th, Gary and I are going to visit my ex-SIL before their old house is torn down. She has moved into her new house. Kind of sad we never visited after she divorced Billy's brother. We used to go there often when the boys were little. She will be 82 this year. I always liked her & she still calls me her sister. She lost her oldest daughter to cancer in 2022.
Sandra, so glad you are going to be getting some help with those heavy chores.
Judy, one thing that makes a good cook is knowing when you taste it, what is missing and what to add! I bought some dry mustard and have never used it. Don't even know why I bought it, lol. Still don't know what dill weed is used for and have never used my full container, so I guess I don't qualify as being a good cook, lol!
Janet, bless your heart! Hope the drops work fast.
Here's what I picked yesterday from my mini garden. Okra grows so fast, I'll probably get a few more before I cook this little batch. The little orange tomatoes are so much better than the red Husky cherry tomatoes. They are called Sun Sugar. I will buy only those next year.

Devonne, a little dill is good mixed in your eggs before you scramble them!
No self driving cars for me, it’s a control issue, plus I’ve seen videos of them in accidents.
And a pinch of dry mustard in potato salad is good!

I put dill weed in my egg salad and potato salad. There is also a dip that it goes in but I haven't made it in years so can't remember the rest.
How do you cook okra?
