Our contractor starts on our deck on Monday! Yay! 🎊
DS is in Las Vegas for a chess tournament and will return Monday night. His pup will be thrilled to see him! 😁
I hope you are all well! Who knows, maybe I'll find some time to read this week after I get caught up on my reviews! 😁

DIANE so glad to hear you are feeling better, a friend is in Vegas next week too, not sure how long for, she's also heading to the UK after.
It's another cold one here, the heat has been on all day, just turned it off, the warmth should last the night. We went to the pub for dinner, I had BBQ Pulled Jackfruit pizza, brought 1/2 home, it was really good, it was a bit like pork, the fruit wasn't ripe so didn't taste of anything except the flavourings.
Today was also grocery shop day, I did the order online, I had too much heavy stuff to get so it's easier, only takes 10 mins to do the order on the computer, then I schedule a time slot to pick up, I also have put things into a shopping bag to take away, long life milk, peanut butter, honey, muesli bars and lemon/ginger tea bags, not taking too much this time, we'll eat out except for breakfast, Oh and I packed rolled oats to make porridge.
I also made my sourdough and some brownies, the packet was slightly out of date, they are fine! I wouldn't tell the Mr though, he gets a bit funny about dates - they were 'best before 1 June" so would have been fine for a while yet. If we had no dates on things like the old days we wouldn't even worry, I still use milk after it's date, if it smells OK it's OK LOL
I'm mad at myself, I thought I had measured my sock and I finished it tonight before we went out, now I have unpicked it back to before the toe shaping, I hadn't made the foot long enough, I must have measured from the wrong spot. Next time I will use the old sock to compare.
I am tired and ready for bed, but it's too early, I have a couple books to read, and more knitting. Nothing much on TV, but I can always watch something on the iPad if he wants to watch the football.
THANK YOU for the thoughts for Dean, you do worry, and the instructor was great to get him back driving, so lucky, it could have been a lot worse. People are so impatient on the roads, you really do need eyes in the back of your head! When I drive Dean anywhere I always try to 'teach' him little things, get him to check what the cars behind are doing, the people walking etc, keep an eye on everything, he said he didn't really understand how far in advance you have to watch people, both on and off the road.
Online!
Steph will also be in Vegas in 2 weeks, but it’s for work, so she’s getting paid. I forget whether it’s a meeting, an expo, or if she’s teaching.
It’s cloudy, showers predicted. Lots of rain predicted for this week. I got up earlier than usual, the cookie swap ladies were discussing yesterday, and every time someone messaged, my wrist vibrated, so I got up.
Today is Manda’s birthday! How that kid got to be 44 is beyond me!

BJ, 65 degrees sounds like a perfect day! It's so good to see you posting every day. How is Frank doing?
Here's a picture of my tiny garden. There's two watermelon plants, one yellow squash, one zucchini squash, one cucumber and one giant red bell pepper. I have 5 tomato plants in pots on the patio, 4 okra plants, 1 strawberry plant and one yellow bell pepper.
I'm glad I went out to take this picture. Look what I found.

I likely will not have time to read this week after all. DH'S sister passed away this morning a month shy of her 65th birthday from what appears to have been a massive heart attack! 😢Although she was trim, she consumed way too many carbohydrates and processed foods, and had been a heavy smoker since her early teens. 😢 She had been visibly unwell the last 5 years or so, and the doctor recently told her she needed stents for blockages. So sad!
On a completely different subject, it is hot and muggy here in Washington! 🥵 I'm so thankful for air conditioning!

Trish, I agree with you on those "best by dates" on products. Especially canned goods or boxed goods; they are fine for a long while past those printed dates. I gave Amelia a small cup of canned diced peaches one day. She opened it, looked at the date and then threw it in the trash. It was close to the best by date, not even on the date. I was not happy with her. She said her school told her to always look at the dates and throw out anything close to or beyond that date. lol. I said, not in my house. Food is too expensive.
I don't think I have ever had a jackfruit. I looked it up and cannot figure out how it goes on a pizza.
Diane, sorry about you SIL. Smoking is not good for a body for sure.
Devonne, what a cute garden, and to have gotten cucumbers and zucchini already is wonderful! Those watermelon plants will take over your lawn...
It was rainy and quite chilly today. I had to pull out my winter slipper socks because my feet were freezing. It is June, so my furnace is turned off and I refuse to turn it back on until November.

DIANE sincere sympathy to you and your DH on the death of his sister, sad, she was only young (((hugs)))
DEVONNE good haul for this early in the season, will the watermelon spread a lot? I have only ever seen it grown on the farm LOL My nan had some on her property, yum!!
BJ hope Frank is doing OK, and you are enjoying the cooler day!
It's been another very cold and windy day, snow on the mountains not too ar away, and the wind is coming right off the snow!! The washing went out, then came in later still wet and cold, it's almost dry on the indoor line in the a/c now.
Tomorrow will be much the same, and I have a class in the morning, it will be pretty cold in the park, we'll warm up, but before we do there is a lot of shivering going on!
I unpicked my sock, and got back to "almost finished" -- again, so frustrating. I also tried - again - to learn the Magic Loop knitting , I thought I remembered how to fro the video, clearly not, so maybe tomorrow I'll they again step-by-step with the video, if I can't make it work then I give up.
CHERYL it seems strange that people can't see if the product is off or not LOL I agree - too expensive to waste, I wouldn't have used the miix if it smelt off, I have had one I found about a year out of date, the flour mix did smell stale.
JACKFRUIT - it's a tropical fruit, when it's ripe it's sweet/fruity, when it's still unripe it can be used in cooking, it doesn't taste of anything then, and it kind of shreds like pork, if you didn't know you would think it was just pulled pork, so basically a vegetarian pizza, it had avocado and fresh tomato and some thins sliced red onion, it was really good!
SANDRA I think my mojo has gone too!! I have been knitting a lot , I need to finish the baby quilt, I was planning on getting it done before Friday - maybe I still can, I wanted to layer it up at the LQS, we are meeting for a "sit & sew" seeing Julie is away for another few weeks.
My chicken/corn chowder was really good, I think I can copy it, I loved the chowder we got in the US, it was yum, better than this one, this had just a bit more mixed herbs than I would do myself, a bit like stuffing taste LOL I don't have the radio on either when I drive, the Mr has on the talk shows, I think it's a distraction, I turn it off when we travel.
HOLLY Happy Birthday to AMANDA, I agree that we don't age as fast as our kids do!!
My post went haywire, everything has gone ot of order, I'm not fixing it LOL I'll lose the lot then.
See you later

DISORDER IN THE COURT.......
1. JUDGE: WELL, GENTLEMEN OF THE JURY, ARE YOU UNANIMOUS?
FOREMAN: YES, YOUR HONOR, WE'RE ALL ALIKE----TEMPORARILY INSANE.
2. THE COURT: NOW, AS WE BEGIN, I MUST ASK YOU TO BANISH ALL PRESENT INFORMATION AND PREJUDICE FROM YOUR MINDS, IF YOU HAVE ANY.
VERY GRAY DAY HERE. RAIN COMING BY SUPPERTIME.
DIANE......HOW SAD THAT YOU LOST A RELATIVE BEFORE HER 65TH BIRTHDAY AND SO SUDDENLY. SHE HAD ISSUES THO ACCORDING TO HER DOCTOR. THEY JUST WERE NOT ATTENDED TO IN TIME.
TRISH.......THOSE SOCKS ARE GETTING A GOOD TRY. I APPLAUD YOU FOR KEEPING AT IT AND TRYING TO GET THEM DONE. I DON'T THINK I WOULD HAVE YOUR PATIENCE.
DEVONNE......LOVE YOUR LITTLE GARDEN. NOW THAT THE ZUKES ARE RIPENING YOU NEED TO CHECK FOR THEM EVERY DAY. THEY GROW TERRIBLY FAST.
MY NEIGHBOR MICHELE IS STILL NOT DOING WELL. YESTERDAY I MADE HER A SMALL ITALIAN SANDWICH FOR LUNCH AND TOOK OUR HER TRASH WHEN I TOOK OUT MINE. SHE HAD A LOT. THEN FOR SUPPER I ROASTED THAT 2-LB BONE-IN TURKEY BREASST WITH TATERS AND CARROTS AND BROUGHT HER A PLATE FOR SUPPER ALONG WITH SOME WATERMELON. I SHARED WITH SHARON AS WELL SINCE SHE SUPPLIED THE TURKEY BREAST. I HAVE JUST A BIT MORE LEFTOVER FOR LUNCH TODAY. IT WAS TENDER AND JUICY. MMMM, SO GOOD.
FOR TONITE I WILL BE MAKING PEPPERONI AND HAMBURG PIZZA SO WILL SHARE THAT WITH A FEW AS WELL. AT LEAST 2 HERE NEED A BIT OF HELP SINCE THEY ARE NOT DOING GREAT. SOME DAYS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS.
AS FOR ME, I GET TO DO MY LAPS SO THAT IS A GOOD THING. I HAVE BEEN READING A LOT LATELY AND ENJOYING IT. PLAYING SOLITAIRE IS ANOTHER PASTIME I ENJOY. WHEN I CAN, I GET OUT TO THE COMMON ROOM TO WORK ON THE JIGSAW PUZZLE.
SEWING IS STILL ON THE HORIZON. NO MOJO FOR THAT YET.
WISHING YOU ALL A GOOD DAY. HUGS, QB S

Trish, yes, the watermelon vines do spread. I will need to pull it back when the lawn guy comes again.
Diane, so sorry for your loss. It sounds like the doctors were almost there, but a little too late with doing the stents. When Billy had his stents, his doctors couldn't believe he never had a major heart attack. He was lucky.

TWO-HEADED HEADLINES......
1. MINERS REFUSE TO WORK AFTER DEATH.
2. JUVENILE COURT TO TRY SHOOTING DEFENDANT.
RAINY DAY HERE. OFF AND ON SO NOT STEADY.
ON THE SUBJECT OF BEST BUY DATES......THOSE DATES ON CANS, JARS, AND BOXES ARE THE DATES THE PRODUCT WILL STILL BE AT ITS BEST FLAVOR. YOU CAN USE THEM A YEAR BEYOND THE BEST BUY DATE BUT THE FLAVORS WILL DIMINISH.
I USE A PERMANENT MARKER TO WRITE ON THE TOPS AND SIDES OF ALL SUCH CONTAINERS SO I CAN SEE THE DATES EASILY. 'BB 1/23/26' OR WHATEVER THE DATE. THOSE ORIGINAL PRINTINGS ARE EASILY RUBBED OFF OR TOO SMALL TO READ FROM A DISTANCE OF OVER 6 INCHES.
I MADE THE PIZZA AND IT WAS GOOD. I HAVE ENOUGH FOR LEFTOVERS FOR LUNCH TODAY. I HAVE PORK CHOPS TO BAKE FOR SUPPER. MAYBE WITH JUST A SALAD.
CRIBBAGE THIS AFTERNOON SO ITS A GOOD DAY FOR FUN AND GABBING.
STAY SAFE AND ENJOY YOUR DAY. HUGS, QB S

From what I’ve read, the dates on cans are arbitrarily set by the companies, with no specific basis.
It’s rainy here also, and generally dreary. I spent some time in the sewing room making battings for table runners from batting scraps.
Leftovers for dinner.

Sunny, coolish, and best of all the precious rooster, next door, is crowing his pleasure with the day...or something. I'm trying to change Howard's neurologist appt., tomorrow but they're not answering and have not returned the call I made yesterday and left their requested information. The girl who first answered, then, could not hear me at all. This is par for the course most everyday with one of my phones or the other. SOMETHING GOES HAYWIRE!! Tomorrow is lunch for H. with the ROMEOs. He enjoys that and wants to go and I enjoy it even more.
ML called from the small farm she was at and asked if we wanted more strawberries and brought them by for the 2nd time. She's back to spoiling me and I always want fresh strawberries. These are smaller but sweeter than those from the big strawberry farms around here who grow a kind that are less perishable but a bit more sour.
Howard is fixing the flat tire on the lawn tractor and then will mow. It really needs it but I leave the timing up to him. Finally, shame takes over and he gets it done, if you know what I mean...
Both Danny and Mary Leigh and their spouses will celebrate their 30th anniversaries soon. Danny/Pam on 6-11 going to Chicago, their favorite for a few days and ML/Bill on 7-1, going to Mackinac Island, Michigan where they spent their honeymoon. With her sick as she was, this is even more special for them, as they thought they'd have to cancel their plans.
Here's my latest trauma: After reading the front page of the paper a couple of nights ago, I put it down, as usual, but picked that part up a few minutes later--unusual. It was then, I noticed a large black spider at the top where is says, The Times, sort of hunkered down. My knight in shining armor rescued me and flushed it. Next day, I noticed an unusual bite on my inner thumb which is very itchy, red, etc. Surely, I would have noticed a lge. black spider by my thumb, but maybe not since i was engrossed in reading. It's going away and I'll live, but who would of thought you'd have to look over
your newpaper before reading it?
With that, I'll bid you all goodbye for now. Have a lovely day--"What is so rare as a day in June?"

Speaking of best by dates … my carton of milk is dated June 22 but is already going bad. Maybe that’s because I forgot to bring it in from the car after buying it yesterday! Silly me! When I got home from the store I walked out to get the mail and to bring in the trash can from the end of the driveway, then completely forgot that I had been to the grocery store. At least the milk was the only thing that needed refrigerated since I had done most of my grocery shopping on Friday.

Judy - watch that bite carefully. A friends DH went septic a few days after they discovered a bite between his toes. No itch, no swelling, nothing. Discovered after admitted thru ER. Lived but has had kidney issues (dialysis) for years.

Greg has arrived in Switzerland, his first international flight. He had to fly into Paris and then to Switzerland. He said the Paris airport looks old. He flies home Friday. Expensive trip ($2,400) for just 2 days spent at the office over there.
Judy, that is why I'm going with lighter flooring when I can afford to get it. I want to be able to see spiders! I have such a fear of them.
Marylou, I have done that too! Not with milk, but ground beef. I thought I had gotten everything, but this package was on the back floor, not the seat. Glad I found it quickly or it would have been a mess.
It's thundering, lightning and heavy rain right now, which makes it extra dark in the house. I went and got my oil changed this morning. Was going over to see Gary and the kids, but never made it. I bought a few groceries I had to put in fridge.

Janet, thanks for the warning. I will watch it and it's visible to me all the time. The bite was itchy and red but is resolving and going away. I believe all spiders inject venom of some type when they bite.
How awful for your friend. We watched the series entitled Bugs on PBS recently and it gave me a new appreciation for the insect world and the absolutely necessary things they do so we can live on planet earth. But the potential for bites almost makes it impossible to "love" them.
We also occasionally leave something in the car. But, with both of us handling the groceries, and both being paranoid that we didn't get one of our bags from the store, we're not too bad about it. But we are absolutely insane when the other happens or we think it happens. Like last week...the little silicone spatula I got but couldn't find when we got home. And, of course, we paid for it! Turns out the checker had put it in with the pharmacy stuff and we don't always put that away immediately because, if we do...then we can't locate one of those items!!
It IS hard to get old...everyday's a holiday...as one friend often says.
Diane, I'm so sorry about the loss of your sister-in-law. I know you're all heart-broken. Some things while maybe possible are never expected suddenly, especially in one as young. Blessings to your family.
Well, the mowing is on hold. Something went wrong with the mower. Howard was able to fix it but he's still not feeling up to par, still is weak, so the mowing must wait. I'm always so grateful that we don't live in town anymore and that no one around here cares.
I just finished my lunch. Got so carried away working on setting up my new office area, I forgot to eat. We have l/o chili for supper so he can eat when he wants and me, when I want...
Have a good evening.
Indy

My gosh JANET that is awful, maybe it was a white tip spider, they cause huge damage, a friend had a small bite from one, noticed it right away, but still had months of treatment for it.
DEVONNE I had never thought about whether airports are modern, most look similar to me LOL, although I will say that Houston is very nice looking, so is Doha, the 'oldest' feeling one to me has been Frankfurt. I thought it was a little weird, up one floor, down one floor, down a corridor, was not the easiest to get around.
SANDRA my sewing mojo had gone, got it back a bit today, I realised that the baby quilt was not making me happy, went out and got some fat 1/4s and have already cut them out, I'm starting a new quilt for the bub. Won't take long - It's called Perfect 10 and uses 10 fat 1/4s, plus a border and a small amount of a fabric to put around some 8 1/2" squares, all made from 8 1/2" squares 8 1/2" X 4 1/2" rectangles and 2 1/2" squares, it looks complicated, but it goes together in 3 parts, I'll get a pic when it's bub is born.
MARYLOU don't you just hate that, I have on occasion lost something in the boot. Not milk thank heavens, I find it odd that fridge makers show them with milk stored in the door, but I always had it go off early when I did that, have never had a problem when storing in the main part of the fridge.
INDY I lost a bag of groceries - I thought - turns out Pete was home and had quickly put it away, lucky I checked the cupboard. I was going to head back to the store. Hope the ROMEOS had fun! There is a small trick to make strawberry syrup from them, cut the tops off washed fruit, a little of the fruit as well, not much, weigh them and add the same weight of plain sugar to them in a jar, shake well, store in fridge, shake again each day total of 4 days, then strain the syrup out. I haven't done it, saw it on Nancy Birtwhistle, she has some amazing tips
I took the plunge, I have been procrastinating about a DNA test kit, it was on sale last Sunday, I ordered it, was supposed to be delivered 7 -10 days, it came today, from Sunday to Wednesday YIKES, - did the test and it's on the way to Ireland, they give you a box to return it. I would guess it will take a few weeks at least. Have been wanting to see if we have any indigenous Australian in our history, some we haven't been able to trace. Probably a waste of money.
It's another cold one here, was 35F when I got up BRRR , it will probably get down to that tomorrow morning as well, and I will have the family here tomorrow, Megan will be here doing Zoom meetings while the cleaners are at their house, then both boys will be here as well around lunchtime.
Just have to toss my clothes in a suitcase, all the others things I need are ready to go, we still have dinner with Gary on Friday night, I am hoping to leave around 9am on sat, but the Mr will be champing at the bit to get out by 7am - we only have 5 hours of driving, that will be way too early to get to our motel.
