Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 11 ~ SAT MAY 17

QB, thanks for the cribbage info.  I didn't realize it was a card game--thought you did something with a board and "sticks".  Being an "only", I've never been much of a game player, especially cards.  No one to play with as a child.  Mom might consent to one Chinese checkers game per year, after my begging.  So,   I prefer crosswords, Jeopardy and other word games.
Glad you like the mac and cheese.  A recipe submitted from a black man in a newspaper insert--his grandmother's recipe, I believe.  (I like to know where recipes come from, if possible.)

Cheryl, that long?  Hard to believe.  I once had a phone conversation with Kelli, something about Curves that I've forgotten.  She was a fun participant, here, and I loved her posts about her family and especially the one where she'd lost some weight and her half slip fell off  at church and Bill quickly scooped it up!    What would she have done without him?

We had the oddest and only dust storm I ever remember yesterday afternoon.  I say we, but it was much worse in Chicago and it's surrounding areas.  This, after an intense monsoon the evening beore which made me wonder about the supposed dryness that caused the dust storm?

I tried a new recipe for our  group yesterday.  I needed to bring a salad and made a deviled egg pasta salad.  It was a hit.  Just had some for my late lunch along with a cup of V-8.
Am going to order a pizza for supper. From Casey's, a gas station chain.  ML told me they started as a pizza place and expanded from there.  They like them...we'll see about us...picky about pizza!!

Devonne, I don't watch those shows, either, even before Howard started staying downstairs. Did try a couple of  seasons of Batchelor  and was immediately hooked but felt so sorry for the ones who were turned down, that I didn't want to watch their sadness anymore.

Have a good weekend.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 11 ~ SAT MAY 17

Judy, cribbage is a card game but a wooden board and little pegs are used to keep track of the players’ scores. Mom and Dad used to play it a lot and taught it to my kids. David and I played a game when he was here recently. Afterwards we both said it didn’t seem like as much fun as we remembered it being.

It has been another one of those busy weeks. Exercise class three days, a doctor appointment (ENT follow-up), a haircut, and a day of working with a friend on a quilt of valor for her brother-in-law. I also bought some annuals and got them potted. I think I will enjoy sitting on my patio in the evenings this summer even more than usual with 6 pots of flowers … IF I can keep them alive!

I went to my favorite farmers market this morning a got two quarts of strawberries. Usually berries will keep for a couple of days and I love them so much that I can eat two quarts before they go bad. But these must be a different variety. They are already getting pretty soft. I’m going to share some shortcake that is in the oven and some berries with the kind young man next door who sprayed Roundup in my driveway the other day. We have a good deal going on- he does work for me that I can’t do and I feed him.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 11 ~ SAT MAY 17

I went to Caleb's games today; they had two games with a 30 minute break in between. They got their butts "whupped"....both games.

Marylou, enjoy your annuals. I won't have any flowers on my patio this year. All my pots have veggies in them.

Holly, I wish I knew what year I bought my Kenmore Elite. We got it at the mall at Sears and paid $900 for it. It sews just as good as the day I got it (made by Janome). Just wish the speed was faster.

It's been a long day and I'm pretty tired. Left at 1:30 and got home at 8:15. I'm going to visit Greg and Carter tomorrow.

Gary just texted me and Caleb has another game at 9:00 am in the morning. They have to be there at 8 am. That is crazy early!

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 11 ~ SAT MAY 17

Hi all

A dreary day here, rainy at times and cool, same yesterday, Autumn is here LOL
Some of the trees are changing rapidly, some not even changing colour very much before dropping, I love seeing the few deciduous we do have locally go orange and red.

I had a busy week, doctors, hair colour and cut, training and having the boys over while the cleaners were at their house (only every 2nd week) , always get a message from John asking if it's OK if he comes over, then I pick up Dean early on Thursdays anyway, so I get them lunch LOL those two can eat me out of house and home !!

It's been quiet here, and I have been pottering about with the Alice quilt, I want plenty of small things to sew when we go away in June, Only a week so not much packing!

MARYLOU I have heard if you rinse strawberry in a vinegar/water solution they stay fresh longer, I would freeze them and use in cooking LOL

SANDRA I know about the keeping score with cribbage but I haven't played it, might look it up, might be fun for some of us at quilt camp, I am sorry about your neighbour, some people are just miserable, and don't want to be anything else unfortunately. where you live you can choose to be sociable when you want, and that is so good, shame he didn't want to.

INDY I only have a few places where I can get pizza, most are not the way I like them, I loved them in Italy, just my style, thin and crisp on the base, and a few only yum toppings, the simplest one I ever had - and the most delicious was just cheese and a few basil leaves ( tomato too of course) can almost taste it now.
Devilled egg salad with V8 sounds yum, I haven't had V8 for a long time, might add it to my list, I usually try to find tomato juice at buffets in hotels (and cruise ships) some always have it, some you have to ask. It's my choice instead of the other juices.

DEVONNE that is an early start, don't miss those days going to see the boys play soccer, it was foggy sometimes and cold ground, so your feet got cold - they play in autumn and winter here, and some games were 8am LOL

HOLLY that is a lovely way to remember your friend, it will be appreciated, so sorry for her loss, I like reasonable spicy sausage, we have some yum italian ones here, but the Mr doesn't care for them LOL So I don't cook them often.

CHERYL I miss my girl too and still have a weep, you had the same kind of friendship as I did, they remain in our hearts forever. Every year Dianne and I would 'do' the craft shows, I have been a few times since then just not the same, I rarely go any more.

I have made my sourdough and been playing with fabric choices, but my brain is now fried, I can't seem to pick what I want, made a few choices and changed my mind so often I'm giving up.

I have also spent quite a few hours trying to get into our servers mail - I got an email I think might be spam, but it really looks real, and wanted us to update our privacy policy before tomorrow, so I went searching and found how to access our mail account, but of course I need to update passwords, and all that took a while,  but I can't find anything on the site that want policy updates acknowledged, so I have deleted the email, weird because it REALLY looks legitimate, can't trust anything now, it wanted me to click the links of course, I NEVER do that, I always go to the website - such a waste of time.

I have the A/C on heating, it's quite cool today, and will be the next few days.
Still have no idea what to do for dinner - I have salmon in the freezer, so maybe I'll thaw it out.

Does anyone use Ancestry, I signed up for the free account, not paying them money, but I do get "hints" and someone has been checking on my mothers death notice, curiosity got the better of me, and I started googling, I found someone  with the name who lives in the south of us, AND near to where mum has distant relations, so I messaged him, turns out he wasn't looking for mum, just the connection to our dad, we have the same grandparents back in 1870s on my dads side, I know it's legitimate because I have seen the names of them in my info from an aunt, talk about small world, they all had 10 or more kids back then, and his branch of the family ended up near another branch of mine hundreds of years later, they came from Germany originally.
I am not keeping in touch with him, they really have no connection to us otherwise. But he has said he can forward any info to me if I need help.
