Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

My food is prepared.  I called the Arndt's (ML) and offered to bring pickled herring.  Andrew is the only one who took me up on it.  I don't love it, but like a bit once in awhile.  He'll try anything.  Bill and Howard won't try much of anything and ML is sure to be allergic to it.  Anyone here like pickled herring?

I'm ashamed to admit, I still have ML and Bill's presents to wrap, or in my case shove in a gift bag.  I've always done this--dragged my feet on wrapping.  She wrapped or bagged? Andrew's from us which she bought for me.  It's a pizza stone and she thought it too heavy so just kept it there.  Worked for me.

Devonne,  so glad to hear you're doing well.  I love the Rotel/Velveeta/ beef mixture. Got started on that when we lived in Texas 40+  years ago.  No one here craves it and most won't try it, so I never make it.  Our meal is pretty simple and easy, too.  ML is making a Mississippi
chuck roast, Andrew is making some kind of potato wedges they love and she froze green beans last summer.  Those items plus mine is it.  Well, Andrew did get us some Italian Christmas bread (in Chicago) and  Walker shortbread cookies and some kind of truffles.

Off to "wrap", get better dressed and maybe read for a bit since we don't go there until 4:30.
Merry Christmas Eve.  Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you all (((((hugs)))))

We've had breakfast, just need to get lunch done and she'll be off

I am teary sitting here thinking of how great both the boys and Pete have been with her, they have given her endless hours of UNO cards, she is loving it, they have been so good with her. I am very blessed with =19.5pxfamily who care, and make her life happy!

We are getting a little weary, cleaning everything all the time, wiping down things etc. But we seem to have it all covered.

I need to make seafood sauce for the fresh prawns, but will do that later, sounds awful but really delicious with fresh seafood. It's just lightly whipped cream, tomato sauce (ketchup) worstershire sauce and a few drops of tabasco. I will make the potato salad this morning, it can sit out for a while. And just need to cut up ham for us with salads, and she will have her usual mash potato, boiled pumpkin, carrots and steamed spinach and some small frankfurters (mini hot dogs). Not particularly good for her, but really she absolutely devoured them yesterday, and it's 2 days only.

So good to hear all the happening from you all, INDY hope you got those tings stuffed not bags, YES, he knew what I was doing, I read it to him, asked Megan also "does this sound like Dad? " and sent it, glad I did, he was so furious his would have been fill with expletives LOL

They at least have agreed on some things, Megan also suggested that her father go with whatever brother wants ( I sent her the emails) she said he sounds he's not giving in - about the hearing aids -   if it doesn't work he will need to fix it LOL

SANDRA the family will love the treats, John & Dean remember the food more than anything!!

I hope you have a wonderful time DEVONNE enjoy the company with family, you deserve the best !!

MARYLOU I have a small Google nest, I find it really annoying, Megan & Gary use theirs all the time, they ask it to play music, set the oven timer, question about things. I hate it, occasionally it butts into a conversation LOL (unwanted  and annoying LOL )

I hear calling, better get back the the visitor, only another 5 hours WHEW!! I can do this LOL

Merry Christmas everyone!!
I make that meat/cheese dip to eat on New Years Day while watching the parade. DH doesn't like it so I get it all. That's the only time I make it.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

Merry Christmas! The cheese dip was awesome. I will have some more of that later today.

I have Alexa and love it. I use it to set timers for the oven, reminders to take my meds at a certain time, check weather updates, find my Iphone, turn on/off my lamps, start the Roomba and doctor appt. dates and times. The kids like to ask her to tell a funny joke. You can tell her when you're coming home to a dark house to turn on the lights. I have special Phillip lights so I use my Phillips Hue app for this.

Greg got me battery operated sconces for above my mantel. He will put those up when I'm better. My house doesn't feel so cluttered with all the presents unwrapped. A lot of presents when you're buying for 10 people.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

Merry Christmas.  Wasting the day and enjoying that.  Well, I'm doing just what I want and reading my current book, something that's been put aside the past few days.
We had a good time and good food at ML's last evening.  Caught up with Andrew (Mr. Chicago )  He brought Walker shortbread cookies, truffles, and Italian Christmas bread, all delicious. We have leftovers for this evening.  Howard is watching It's a Wonderful LIfe for the umteenth time.  I'm here and have been checking out various things on the computer.

Nice dreary, cloudy day here.   Snow has been gone for a few days.  Have a great evening.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

I had a really nice time with my brother and his family yesterday. Today I am having a quiet day at home, I have had some phone calls and several texts. I have several things to look forward to in the future - friends getting together on Friday, Lynn coming in late January, and spending time with David’s family in February.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

HAPPY CHRISTMAS to all!! And blessing for HANNUKAH to JANET.

INDY sounds like a lovely day! I LOVE Walkers shortbread, that's the good stuff, we ate it in Edinburgh, I think it's all made in Scotland, by far the nicest, I forgot to comment on the herrings we had some in Amsterdam, I wasn't going to try them but loved them, odd texture but delicious!

SANDRA I hope you had a lovely day and your day and family were able to visit. You sure made enough food to share around, Megan made some Xmas crack, with pretzels, and some with chocolate M&Ms they were delish! I thought of you when I had a piece LOL I am making your walnut clusters next year!

MARYLOU we had a quiet day too, we went to Megan's last night when W and Pete got home from returning sis to her hostel. It was lovely and we relaxed together.

DEVONNE sounds like you had both boys in the house together, I am happy for you, that would have ben theist gift of all to you ((((hugs)))) good luck with the drains, they are awful, it's great when they are all out!! I can't take the strong pain killers either, they affect me badly.

We were all ready for sis to go home when she left after lunch, she had a lovely time, and went off happily.
last night we had dinner with the family, fresh prawns, BBQ'd prawns, scallops wrapped in bacon and prawns in spring roll wrappers, PLUS the salads, turkey and Gary had cooked a chicken on the BBQ, we FORGOT the ham LOL - it was still siting in the fridge uncut! Plus I had potato salad.

Then the jellies (yes Jello LOL ) meringues, jam rolls, strawberries and cream and custard - and the after dinner mints. Plus the xmas crack and lemon slice. The boys had HUGE bowls of jelly etc, no idea where they put it!!!  I had 1 tiny slice each of the xmas  crack and lemon slice. We ate dessert while watching (for the thousandth time) Christmas Vacation and switching to Love Actually in the ad breaks

We did well with the size of things, we ate almost all the main meal (not all the turkey or chicken) the boys also have leftover potato salad. We had most of  the seafood, the fresh prawns were delish!!

An easy recipe for seafood sauce. ----The thousand Island dressing you buy in a bottle (kind of redish coloured) and LIGHTLY (thickened but not stiff) whipped cream in equal parts, it was just as good as the one I make usually which also has whipped cream, sounds weird with seafood, but it does work.

We have leftover prawns to cook today, plus the other foods, we sure won't go hungry.

I treated us to a bottle of Baileys Irish Cream (choc/mint flavour) and we had some after dinner over ice.

I just watched King Charles speech, I do hope he survives for a long reign, it was a beautiful chapel, and a moving speech.

Today is getting some rest and more washing! I have been doing her linen on wash setting  as hot as the machine does  -  90deg, it takes a while, then it's in the sun to dry and it's going to be near 100 F, so they will be dried  and clean!

Good Morning, it was lovely reading what everyone was doing on Christmas.  It is very dark outside this morning and not a breath of air moving. Our flag is barely moving.

Sending best wishes to everyone!  Hope everyone has a lovely new year! BJ.

First shower in 9 days...a wonderful Christmas gift for me. You can't get these drains wet.

Trish, your desserts look great!

Rain moving in tomorrow and the weekend. 65 degrees for December! I have not liked these 20's temps at night because my heat pump can't keep up with temps this low.

Have any of you taken advantage of Christmas clearance items? I wouldn't know unless it was something online.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

On our commute to work, my husband stopped at a convenience store for coffee. As he got back into the car, I noticed something odd. "Turn your head and look at me," I said. "You have a Q-tip sticking out of your ear." As he pulled it out, he replied, "No wonder the guy in there asked me if I was getting good reception."

ITS BOXING DAY LADIES. NICE AND SUNNY BUT IN THE 30S HERE.

DEVONNE......HOW NICE YOU ARE FINALLY ABLE TO SHOWER.  I KNOW THAT MUST FEEL DARN GOOD.
YOU SEEMED TO HAVE HAD A GREAT TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY WITH ALL OF THEM CATERING TO YOU THIS HOLIDAY.  I HOPE THEY MEND SOME FENCES WHILE THEY'RE AT IT.
NO, I HAVE NOT SHOPPED CLEARANCE.  I BUY THINGS WHEN IT WANT THEM SO DON'T HAVE A NEED.

TRISH.....IT SURE SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAD A BANG-UP TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS WITH FAMILY.  YOU ARE A LUCKY WOMAN AND I KNOW YOU KNOW IT.  SUCH A NICE FAMILY, EXCEPT FOR A FEW CRACKS IN THE FOUNDATION.

LINDA.....HOW NICE YOU GOT TO SEE SO MANY OF YOUR FAMILY FOR THE HOLDAYS AND THEY ARE STILL COMING.  YOUR GREAT GRSON IS SURE GROWNG LIKE A WEED.  AND CUTE AS A BUTTON.

FOR THOSE THAT ENJOY THE WALNUT CLUSTERS, I FOUND AN EASY AND CHEAPER RECIPE FOR THEM.  I LIKE THEM, TOO.
1 CUP WALNUTS, CHOPPED
1/2 CUP SEMI-SWEET CHOC BITS
1/2 CUP MILK CHOC BITS
A BIT OF SHAVED GULF WAX
(I USE MY POTATO PEELER TO SHAVE A BIT).
NOTE:  YOU CAN FIND GULF WAX IN THE FLOUR AND SUGAR AISLE.  ITS SHAPED LIKE A POUND OF BUTTER.  ITS PURPOSE IS TO GIVE SOME SOLIDITY TO THE CHOC SO IT DOESN'T MELT SO EASILY IN THE WARM AIR.
ANYWAY, AS FOLLOWS:
IN MICROWAVE-SAFE BOWL PUT ALL THE CHOC BITS AND GULF WAX SHAVINGS.  MELT AND STIR THEM EVERY 15 SECONDS ON HIGH TIL SMOOTH.  STIR IN BETWEEN EACH TIMING.   IT USUALLY TAKES ABOUT 1 1/2 MINS OR SO TIL SMOOTH.  REMOVE FROM MICROWAVE.  ADD THE WALNUTS. STIR TOGETHER TILL COATED.  SCOOP THEM BY SPOONSFUL ONTO PARCHMENT PAPER AND REFRIGERATE TIL FIRM.
I MAKE THESE OFTEN NOW SINCE THE BAKER'S CHOC IS SO DIFFICULT TO FIND WHEN I WANT IT.  AND ITS A LOT CHEAPER.
ENJOY.
I POSTED THIS ON OUR COOKING THREAD.

I HAD A GREAT TIME WITH FAMILY FOR THE HOLIDAYS.  GOT SOME VERY NICE THINGS THAT I REALLY LIKE.  MY KIDS KNOW ME WELL.  I EVEN GOT A GIFT CERTIFICATE FOR GROCERIES WHICH WILL HELP WITH THE NEXT SHOPPING TRIP.  I COOKED LOTS THIS SEASON AND IT WAS APPRECIATED.
YESTERDAY I MADE SPAGHETTI AND MEAT BALLS IN MEAT SAUCE.  SHARED A BIT ALSO. SOME FOLKS HERE HAVE NO FAMILY.

WISHING YOU ALL A FINE AND RESTFUL DAY.  THERE IS A HUDSON AND REX MARATHON ON TODAY SO I AM A HAPPY CAMPER. YOU ALL KNOW HOW I LOVE DOGS, ESPECIALLY GERMAN SHEPHERDS OF WHICH I'VE HAD 3.  ALL SMART AS CAN BE AND PROTECTIVE OF ME AND MY KIDS BUT LOVING IN THE MIX.
NOTHING TO DO AFTER I TOOK OUT THE TRASH THO I TOOK OUT SOME STEAK TO DEFROST, JUST IN CASE I GET A YEARNING.
ENJOY YOUR DAY.
HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

Sounds like there were good times for many, here.  No matter what you do or don't, Christmas is a special time and a certain feeling.  Yesterday, though home by ourselves, Howard and I watched several taped Christmas specials and kept up that feeling with our fiber optic tree lit and our new tiny fireplace heater that surprisingly makes it seem like a 'real' fire is burning.

Trish, I find it a bit amusing how the boys both love, love Jello.  It's something I rarely make.  What do you add to yours, if anything?  I like it plain, best.  Nobody else wants that!  I shouldn't tell this, but when I was a kid in school, once when they served jello on the lunch menu, I told my classmates, sitting nearby, that at home we eat Jello with our fingers, as in no spoons, and proceeded to do so...As I expected, they were shocked.  I, on the other hand, was quite immediately  ashamed of myself  and so glad my mother would never hear of that. And  I desperately hoped they'd all forget it.  It's laughable (or not) what a dumb fool kid will do for a moment of attention!
You're right, Walker's shortbread is the best.  One pkg. that Andrew bought was flavored with orange and chocolate.  OMG...so delicious!

Devonne, that's pretty much the last thing I'd think of.  Even though our present buying has become many fewer in recent years, the ingrained memory of that huge job has erased any desire for more buying.  But, one year due to a huge snowstorm and bitter cold, while we had everything ready for our kids, didn't have anything for each other and we had great fun going out the day after Christmas and shopping together for each other.  I remember the bargains.  There was no internet shopping then and I never did much catalog shopping, either.  So this was all in-person at the stores.  I'm still waiting for my "bought for myself" ring from JTV that's coming in the mail...whenever it gets here.     Pathetic, aren't we?

Tomorrow, I'm planning to make some oyster dressing.  Bought oysters for that  a few days ago.  It's Howard's favorite and even without roasting a turkey, we'll both enjoy it.

Off to begin my day's tasks.  I've been reading my book and loafing.  Have a good day.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

SANDRA thanks for the recipe, and YES I do know how lucky I am, I bless every day that I have this family. We've been fortunate, my sis and I are always in contact and her with family as well. I find it hard when my brother doesn't respond, but have to let it go. My poor sis was so upset this morning, they just don't seem to want contact with us, but messaged that the date for our family gathering is in January, expecting sis and I to do it all, not happening this time, sis is too furious. Especially as it's in the same family message we both wished everyone joy and happiness for Xmas with no response. Families are often strange and I seem to have one of the strangest. LOL  Your gift of a voucher was so nice, a very thoughtful gift!

DEVONNE having a shower is so wonderful after surgery, it's the little things LOL Being able to have water running over you, now that's special ((((hugs)))) the healing seems to be going well, and I'm happy for you, the results will be back soon enough. This year has been challenge for you, but it has brought rewards as well ((((hugs))))

INDY I love fresh oysters, we've tried the cooked ones and of course had Kilpatrick oysters many times in restaurants, but my preference is fresh  --- straight off the rocks as I did when I was a child, crazy --  these days we would NOT allow kids and rocks and sharp knives in the same place, we were so lucky to be able to experience all that - I  vividly remember climbing down and digging the knife in, pulling out the oyster, dipping it in the sea and straight into my mouth. The flavour was so good.

STRINGS hope you have a wonderful visit with family, it's so nice to be with friends and family - the love shared seems to come back ten-fold

I went to the mall to get my nails done, the girls were so busy, asked one "now or come back tomorrow" she gave a grin and said "tomorrow" poor things they know Megan & I well, and know we give little extra, so they try to fit us in where possible, just today wan't going to be one of those days. I didn't want to be there a couple hours waiting.

I also got some Lebanese pastry. The Mr is having some now. We had leftover BBQd prawns last night, and I made a nice crustless quiche with some of the ham, OOPS I should have bought grated cheese while I was out.

I had a long talk with HIS brother - suffice to say I won't waste my time again, he doesn't really 'get it' - I did make clear we won't be having their sis again. He feels she should be out staying with family when possible, as she is 'institutionalised' and I agree, but there comes a time when reality says otherwise. She really can't be cared for by us, and he needs to accept it, he wasn't in Australia when we cared for their mother when she was in  nursing home, so he hasn't had to face that reality before.

So I am kind of glad Christmas is over this year, I am heading to my sewing machine, and the MR is watching the cricket LOL Which I find really really boring!! My sewing friends have a message group, all the partners/husbands are watching the cricket, all of us  heading to our sewing areas LOL

We have dinner with Gary tonight, so no meal prep, and I will be ordering a salad LOL

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 22 ~ SAT DEC 28

INDY I forgot to answer, YES the Jello (jelly for us) is already flavoured, put 1 cup boiling water over the crystals and dissolve, then add less than 1 cup cold water, they come in quite a few flavours, also have one "no flavour" I used to use Elderflower cordial to flavour, the boys loved that, can't get it now. The unflavoured OR the Elderflower LOL

A woman and her husband stop at a dentist’s office. “I need a tooth pulled right away,”
she says. “Don’t bother with the Novocain; we’re in a hurry.” “Which tooth do
you want pulled?” asks the dentist. The woman shoves her husband toward the dentist. “Go ahead, dear. Show him your tooth.”

ANOTHER BRIGHT SUNNY DAY IN THE 30S.
IF I REPEAT ANY OF MY JOKES, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.  SOMETIMES ITS DIFFICULT TO REMEMBER THEM ALL.

DEVONNE......I AM HAPPY TO HEAR YOU ARE MOVING AND GROOVING AGAIN.  THEY ARE TAKING GOOD CARE OF YOU.

TRISH.....I THINK MAYBE JUDY/INDY MAY HAVE MEANT DO YOU PUT ANYTHING LIKE FRUITS IN YOUR JELL-O?  I KNOW ITS A POPULAR ROUTE TO TAKE IN OUR AREA.  AS FOR ME, I ALWAYS LIKED IT PLAIN.  NO STRAWBERRIES OR BLUEBERRIES OF MIXED FRUITS IN MY JELL-O.

FUNNY THING HAPPENED YESTERDAY.  GOT AN EMAIL MY PRESCRIPS HAD BEEN DELIVERED.  UPS SHOWED PICTURE OF WHERE THEY WERE LEFT.  THE DOOR WAS NOT MY DOOR.  NOT FAMILIAR AT ALL.  I WAS GOING TO LET THEM KNOW THEN THOUGHT TO CALM DOWN AND JUST WAIT A DAY IN CASE SOMEONE DELIVERED THEM.  AT 7 PM THE DOORBELL RANG.  A NEIGHBOR CAME WITH MY DELIVERY.  THEY WERE LEFT AT HER DOOR IN THE CONDO UP THE STREET.  HOW KIND.
THE THING IS, WE HAVE A BIG SIGN OUTSIDE READING LITTLE FALLS LANDING.  IT WAS LISTED ON MY ADDRESS ON MY PACKAGE AS WELL.  HOW COULD UPS DELIVER TO THE NEXT SET OF BUILDINGS WHICH IS LOCATED BEYOND A LARGE EMPTY LOT AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH US.
ANYWAY IT ENDED WELL AND I COULD SLEEP WELL LAST NITE.

FOR TODAY NOTHING SPECIAL PLANNED.  I ALREADY DID MY MORNING LAPS.  PLAN TO MAKE A POT OF MASHED TATERS SINCE THEY GO GOOD WITH ANYTHING AND I LOVE LEFTOVER MASHED.  I ALSO PLAN TO GET BACK TO MY BOOK.
TOOK DOWN MY XMAS THINGS AND PUT THEM AWAY.  I DID NOT PUT UP MUCH THIS YEAR.  I NOW HAVE WINTER WALLHANGINGS ON MY DOOR AND HANGING FROM MY 2 UTILITY CARTS BY THE WINDOWS IN THE HALLWAY.  ITS A GOOD PLACE TO DISPLAY THEM.  I DID IT FOR XMAS SO I WILL CONTINUE TO USE THOSE CARTS FOR DISPLAY.

HAVE A GOOD DAY MY FRIENDS.  HUGS FOR ALL.  QB S
