Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

I remember Holly saying she was taking a break, but I thought she would be back by now. Just miss those who normally post!

Sandra, that is amazing how you did that so fast. Really nice!

Marylou, I'm glad you had a nice Thanksging and got to do a shop hop. Doesn't matter how many as long as you find what you want/need. I'm proud of you for doing the drive to Memphis by yourself.

My surgery has been scheduled for December 16th. I will be spending one night in the hospital. I am ready to get this over with and on with living. Speaking of living, Greg has already booked us a cruise for April on my favorite ship, the Carnival Mardi Gras. He wants me to look forward to living, lol.

Trish- what size and type of needle do you generally use for sashiko?

So cold around here. It was 17 when I went out this morning.
I picked up my new machine today. I will set it up tomorrow.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

DEVONNE wow!! so close, and only one day I would have thought you had more time in hospital, maybe they have home care for a few days.  I think we come home the 16th so I will be thinking of you ((((hugs))))
So good to have a trip to look forward too as well!

SANDRA WOW!!! gorgeous, you do such lovely work, I love your gnome, he's cute, I just did an online jigsaw with one like him, they are so cute! How do you get them so neat, my shears YIKES they are so, so heavy, they need strength use, I thought it was just me, they are quite difficult to use at times, at the very end they don't cut, near the base, not the top end, and I feel like I should oil them??? they are heavy steel. I saw that the new series of Midsomer is showing on Britbox, so I will check it out.

JANET I have no idea, I bought them when I bought the fabric and thread, the cotton with the first lot, then the needles with the silk thread, both ladies have them in small containers, and the writing is in Japanese, the original ones seem like a tapestry needle, just thinner, with a sharper point, the others like a longer embroidery needle, sharp point but bigger eye. Maybe like a milliners needle for the silk, they are lovely needles to work with, I still use my needle threader though, I would spend too long trying to get them threaded otherwise LOL

MARYLOU sounds like a lovely time for you, it's great when family get on well and enjoy each other, we feel like that with my sis's family. Plus Dianne & Gary's girls. Not so much with my brother and the Mr's family though, a shame as I was surrounded by a huge family growing up,  many cousins aunts and uncles. We had a "moving" Christmas, spent hours all day visiting and playing. We had cold lunch as it was always so hot, so we had us and any we met with no place to be, sometimes just my grandmother and uncle and other times friends came.

I am tired tonight, it was so hot at training, poor Jade ( she's having her 2nd baby late January) was really feeling it too, the trainers always give her modified exercises, to cope with her tummy. She does so well training - all the girls who have trained right through pregnancy have said it was so helpful at the birth.

The mr had a fun day, he took sis, she was NOT helpful, wouldn't do anything he asked, I doubt the scan showed anything, she didn't drink the water, OR follow the toileting instructions LOL, he asked her to follow him to the car to go to the appointment, when he looked behind she was walking back to her room, said she wouldn't go, so they had a row, but he stood firm and she went. He was pretty stressed when he got home - she is quite stroppy when she doesn't want to do something, she doesn't behave like that for me for long, I put on the Mother voice and she does what I ask. He's too kind and  I'm the cranky one!!  LOL It works though.

Theresa- thank you for the card.  It arrived yesterday.
I’m a bit slow with cards this year.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

Trish, my "home care" will be Gary and Emily, lol.

I already have appointments to get the drains removed...2 on 12/23 and 2 on 12/30. The worse of it will be over by the end of the year.

My shopping is over. I need to finish wrapping presents. Will have to wait until Amazon delivers, but I have a few I can wrap today. Carter was hard to buy for this year. He said he wanted money, so I'm making him a money tree.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

Dad: "Can I see your report card, son?"
Son: "I don't have it."
Dad: "Why?"
Son: "I gave it to my friend. He wanted to scare his parents."

ITS IN THE 30S AND SNOW EXPECTED TODAY.  IT WAS SUNNY THIS MORNING BUT NOW GRAY.

TRISH......DO YOU MEAN THE SERIES, MIDSOMER MURDERS, WITH NEIL DUDGEON OR IS THERE A NEWER ONE?  i'VE BEEN WATCHING NEIL FOR QUITE A WHILE NOW.  ITS GREAT HOW HE JUST SLID RIGHT INTO THE PART AND I LIKE THE WHOLE ENSEMBLE.

I WON $1.50 AT BINGO SO THAT'S ALWAYS GOOD.
WE MADE PLANS TO HAVE A POT LUCK XMAS DINNER ON THE 19TH WITH A YANKEE SWAP.  NOT ALL THE EXTRAS WE USED TO HAVE.  JUST A QUIET EVENING WITH THE SWAP.  ITS TOO MUCH FOR ONE PERSON TO ORGANIZE.
THEN THE BLDG MGMT IS SERVING US HOLIDAY LUNCH ON THE 10TH.  ITS NOT BEEN ANYTHING TOO SPECIAL IF ITS THE SAME AS LAST YEAR.  BUT ITS A GOOD TIME TO MEET AND GREET THE RESIDENTS.
I THINK I WROTE DOWN SOME NOTES ON WHAT I READ BUT WHEN CLEARING OFF MY TABLE I CAN'T FIND THEM.  IF THEY SHOW UP I MAY POST AGAIN.
I SEWED THIS MORNING INTO NOONTIME.  I HAD TO LAYER AND CUT BORDERS AND PRESS AND PIN THE DOOR HANGING TOGETHER SO NEEDED TO CLEAR OFF MY TABLE WHERE I NOT ONLY CUT MY FABRICS, I PRESS THEM ON A SMALL IRONING BOARD ATOP MY TABLE.  I EVEN MADE MY LABEL.  I DID NOT WANT TO HAVE TO CLEAR OFF AGAIN TOMORROW SO JUST GOT TO IT AND THE DOORHANING IS NOW PINNED AND READY FOR QUILTING AND MY BINDING IS CUT AND PRESSES, TOO.
MY SON SHOPS FOR ME ON SUNDAY SO I DO NOT HAVE TO COOK TODAY, NOT TIL TOMORROW.
NO SEWING FOR ME THIS AFTERNOON.  I DID ENOUGH FOR TODAY.
I STILL HAVE NOT RECD MY XMAS STAMPS IN THE MAIL.  ITS BEEN 9 DAYS.  THEY NOTIFIED ME THERE WAS A DELAY AND I SHOULD GET THEM TODAY.  WE SHALL SEE.  WHEN YOU ORDER THEM THEY CLAIM TO DELIVER THEM IN 3-5 BUSINESS DAYS.
I GOT MY TRASH OUT THIS MORNING.  WANTED TO GET IT OUT BEFORE THE SNOW.
THAT'S IT LADIES.  TIME TO REST MY BODY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

I've been trying to post most every day.  The thing is... if we go ANYWHERE, I can't always get to it.  And I too enjoy hearing from everyone often.  You begin to wonder if there's something wrong.
Yesterday, I was home all day.  Howard went to lunch with Dave and I must admit,  I don't work for the few hours he's gone--I play--TV, read, phone calls, you get it!   That might have been a mistake because  shortly after he got home, and was in the garage while I was in my messy house, he hollered in that we have company.  Andrew, next door was here  with two of his boys and brought us a pumpkin roll his wife made and a family picture Christmas card.  So I got to meet him (in my messy house!)  I hope being a man, he didn't notice too much.

I think Howard misheard the day before.  There are SIX boys pictured and one 8 mo. old baby girl.  So seven kids, not six.  We've been invited over to meet Ruthie, his wife and the rest of them.
As for the possible building, Andrew after teaching for 10 yrs. is now a home builder and one of the boys divulged that they are going to build a house for his grandparents.  So, I doubt there will be any other houses.    Interesting that her name is Ruthie and I just lost my classmate, Ruthie, in October.  Usually, it's just plain "Ruth".  We girl classmates were the only ones who ever called our friend Ruthie.

It's gray and slightly snowing and was 18* this morning.  We ventured out early to the Westville post office (Howard often has some issue with it) and then over to ML & Bill's to share a portion of the pumpkin roll  with them...and to see their new Christmas tree.

ML is still feeling poorly (went to another medical appt. yesterday)  and is NOT in Christmas mode but would never suggest this, was obviously relieved that I feel we should cancel our all-family Christmas this year.  That is, with Danny and his family and while they're always grateful,  they never offer. so B and ML  always have it.  Dan saw how she gave out on Thanksgiving Day and we did have a nice catch up with just  him and Emmy that day.   You can't count on my grandson and his girlfriend to come and Pam never really wants to go anywhere, so this year, not forever, it'll be the five of us.  And, if ML's still not up to it,  we COULD have just them, here.

Mary Lou, glad all that worked out so well for you.  The light traffic was a bonus!

Trish, so this is a mini cruise?  Sounds like...   Still nice to get away even for a short time. Have a wonderful time.

Devonne, better to have this over and not have to wait until the new year and be thinking about it all the time.  So, the day before Greg's birthday...  I remember his is the same day as mine.
In a time of great distress in my life, my wise neighbor once reminded me of the importance of having something to look forward to.  So while you thought you were done  with cruises, this may be just the ticket for you in the Spring.  Greg and Gary, while different, are really good sons.  They obviously love their mom.

Cheryl, sounds like a good plan--the gym membership.   One is more inclined to do something when they're paying for it, too!  At least I am...

Supper is leftover crockpot roast beef, gravy and mashed potatoes.   I try to think of something in the morning so I don't fret all day. Time to peel those taters.
Have a good evening and sweet dreams!
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

Indy, may I come join you for supper? You are fixing my favorite meal.

After temps in the 50’s yesterday, it has been quite cold here today. I decided to not even walk to the mailbox at the end of my driveway. According to the “informed delivery” that the postal service has, there is nothing in the box worth getting cold for.

After my cleaning ladies finished this morning, I asked them to bring in my tree and tote of decorations from the garage. I can manage to get other things in. I will take my time this evening and tomorrow decorating. I have a full size tree that I put in the family room where I spend most of my time and a tabletop tree that I put in the living room by the front window. Last year, I got some bubble lights to put on the small tree, remembering that my Grandma had them.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

Judy, we had the same supper! lol!  Roast beef, roasted carrots and taters!  The chuck roast was on sale so I got it and cooked it in the oven.  It was very tender and so good.  I was going to make homemade bread with it, but with carrots, gravy and potatoes decided to skip bread.

It is really cold and blowing snow today.  I did not go out at all.

I did walk the past 3 days at the YMCA.  I am not paying for the membership directly as it is part of my medicare insurance plan on the Silver Sneakers program.

Mary Lou, my granddaughter is coming over on Saturday to help us decorate.  I am not much of a decorator and she loves to do it.  However she puts things on the tree is fine with me.  She also wants to make cake pops. (Like Starbucks sell)  I do not like them and have never made them but they look really easy and she should do fine with the simple recipe.  I bought a strawberry cake mix and  a tub of strawberry frosting to make the recipe.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

Theresa, thank you for the lovely card and the family updates.

Sandra, thank you for the card. It will go on my mantle once the holiday decorations come down.

Marylou, I was so surprised to see you can buy bubble lights at Walmart. I always loved those. I imagine the new ones don't get as hot. I will eventually get some.

Judy, I thought of your friend too when you said Ruthie. How nice of Andrew to come and visit. Don't worry about the house. I'm sure when you go visit them it won't be spotless with that many kids, lol. I hope ML will start feeling better soon. Thank you for the kind compliments about my sons. Yes, my surgery is one day before Greg's birthday. It's also my sister's birthday (Shelby, the one in the nursing home).

Gary is sick & Emily has taken him to Emory. She didn't get off until 8 pm, so she's going to be exhausted. He had an appointment there yesterday & I think he picked up something. She doesn't think it's an ear infection. Emory's ER waiting room(s) are always packed & I don't mean 20 people. Think "downtown Atlanta!" I would have went to the local hospital, but since he has all these Covid problems, she won't go there.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

A mother went to pick up her daughter from elementary school and found her doing handstands against the wall. When they got into the car, the mother said, "Darling, I wish you wouldn't do that because the boys can see your panties." "Okay, mommy," the little girl replied. The next day, the mother noticed her little girls hands looked dirty, so she asked, "You haven't been doing handstands again and letting those boys see your panties, have you?" "Oh no, mummy," the daughter replied. "Honestly! I took them off first."

OUR SNOW DID NOT AMOUNT TO ANYTHING.  IT WAS TOO WARM AND NOT ENOUGH OF IT THOUGH IT SURE WAS PRETTY COMING DOWN.

THE P. O. CLAIMS THEY WILL DELIVER MY STAMPS TODAY.  BUT ITS NOT ON MY 'INFORMED DELIVERY' MESSAGE THIS MORNING.  I HAVE MY XMAS CARDS WAITING.  BUT I STILL NEED TO SEAL THEM.  I THINK I WILL USE A WET SPONGE FOR THAT.

I AM MAKING SOME BUNDIES TODAY AND TOMORROW BOTH.  I NEED ENOUGH FOR MY GRANDSON AS WELL AS MY SON AND A FEW FOR ME TO ENJOY.  I ALSO NEED TO DO MY LAUNDRY TODAY.  SO I WILL BE TOO BUSY TO SEW.

DEVONNE......I HAVE A NIGHTLIGHT BUBBLE LIGHT I USE FOR XMAS TIME.  I LIKE IT.  BRINGS BACK FOND MEMORIES.
SORRY TO HEAR GARY IS SICK.  I HOPE ITS NOTHING TOO BAD THAT HE CAN'T LICK IN A HURRY.  POOR GUY HAS HIS HEALTH ISSUES TOO.

I HAVE BEEN PONDERING WHAT TO MAKE FOR OUR RESIDENT XMAS DINNER ON THE 19TH.  I AM THINKING MAYBE MEAT BALL BITES, SMALL ENOUGH FOR A TOOTHPICK.  WITH SAUCE, OF COURSE.  I HAVE NO IDEA WHO IS DOING THE MAIN DISH OR WHAT IT MIGHT BE YET.  THE POSTER SHOULD BE UP TOMORROW AND THE SIGN IN SHEET.

THAT'S THE STORY OF MY LIFE TODAY.  WISHING YOU ALL A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

I was up until 4 a.m. waiting on Emily to let me know what was wrong with Gary. It turned out to be an abscessed tooth! He didn't want to go downtown, he was too sick, so they did go to the local hospital.

I'm so glad it wasn't Covid again, as he had all the symptoms as the first time he got Covid. I haven't heard from him today.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

Devonne, good news that Gary did not have Covid again, but an abscessed tooth is painful.  Hopefully some antibiotics will take care of that.

Walked at the YMCA today with Dean, did some grocery shopping and worked on a jigsaw puzzle.  Dean and I have been doing a few games on the New York Times web site.  They are free and fun; word games to keep our brains moving..

It was still pretty cold today but the sun was shining so I felt much better.

Nothing else to report today.

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

I took Gary Wendy's chili and a baked potato & got him an extra chili for later. I was shocked at how swollen his face is. Hannah was off today and was there, but never checked on him. She knew he was sick because I texted her yesterday and asked if she had seen him & told her Emily was taking him to the ER.

I am wrapping more presents that came from Amazon today. Greg will be here tomorrow so I need to get his wrapped first.

Trish, is your unwanted visitor gone? Did they get the test results back on her?

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

Made a promise to myself, no internet till the evening, so I can get things done LOL

SANDRA that last one almost made me spit my drink LOL wasn't expecting that, yes I did mean Midsomer Murder no idea what I wrote, I usually check, and the computer will often change words, sometimes very inappropriately - so good you had a little win a Bingo,

The meatballs are a great idea, just a mouthful and easy pack away, easy to make as well.

DEVONNE poor Gary, hope he feels better I was worried he might have covid and you caught it -yikes - you be careful from now on, so many bugs around, you don't want to pick up one

His sis is "supposed " to be coming for Christmas, not now, I couldn't cope with 2 stays! She got some results, thickening of the uterine wall, I have advised W NOT to proceed with any further tests, she would have to have a biopsy, very invasive for her, it does hurt and she doesn't heal with her diabetes. The tearing of her skin to take the biopsy would take a very long time to heal. The  intervention is worse than the possible complaint, I am sure because she is constantly 'wet/damp' her skin is already very thin and she has had a little abrasion bleed a little, this has only happened once before, it's not huge amount of stain, just a drop or two. Honestly could be kidneys too, and she has such a lot of issues it has to be weighed up as to whether it is a good idea to do any testing. They will do a bowl screen, I would like them to do a urine too, but it's so difficult to collect a good specimen from her.

INDY  I love those days when you can decide as a family to just relax and enjoy each other without all the stress of big preparation, takeaway sounds good, when my sis used to come for Christmas Eve for many years ago we ordered lots of different pizzas so we could eat, but enjoy without stressing about meals, very little clean up and it became our tradition for quite a long time for breakfast it was pancakes, ham and fruit then they would head off. Then they had his family who started to stay with them for a week, so we had to stop.

CHERYL have you done the one on NY times with words, I forget what it's called , you have so many tries to get the 4 or 5 letter word correct - wish I could remember. Julie played it and started me, I have stopped though, I do  jigsaws online, and I colour in, you get lots to choose from, but they also have one special one for each day, it's relaxing! As well I am doing my Advent calendar jigsaw and I do word search and the occasional crossword.

MARYLOU I love your tradition of small gifts, we have begun doing a small gift for my friend groups, I made the jam this year, Margie made almond cookies, another knitted a small ornament, another made Christmas perfumed soap, we also received Scotch shortbread, small chocolates, and tea/coffee sachets also were popular. The jam was well received, I've had a few contact me to say they loved the flavour !! So I'm glad about that.

I had another productive day, it has been unbearably humid!!!! The A/C was on just to dehumidify,  it rained most of the day, then the sun came out and it got HOT!!! I dislike summer as you all know  -- I put most things away in the sewing room , have a few things out to work on, sewing day is tomorrow, the rest is packed away. I will be able to give it a good dust and last clean before his sis comes.

I also got wipes to wipe our cabin down, and have clothing organised, it's clean and pressed, not packed, I will do that on Monday or Tuesday.
I had a lovely lunch with school friends, there were 9 of us, having know each other since kindergarten (or even earlier) we slip back into conversation so easily. We hadn't had a group lunch all year, so it was lovely to see them all, we forget we are all 76 or so, and often laugh our way through lunch, we have often had people stop by to chat and when they realise how long we have known each other they are amazed.  I had a delicious French crepe, it was filling!! Then dinner last night with Gary, I had a starter, quite small  but still couldn't finish it.

The house is cooling, I need to get my machine ready for tomorrow, I have everything else ready, and I bought some small macaroons to share for our 'bring a plate' lunch break.
See you later!!

Re: ODT SUNDAY DEC 1 ~ SAT DEC 7

Little Susie, a six-year-old, complained, "Mother, I've got a stomach ache." "That's because your stomach is empty," the mother replied. "You would feel better if you had something in it." That afternoon, her father came complaining that he had a severe headache all day. Susie perked up, "That's because it's empty," she said. "You'd feel better if you had something in it."

BRRRR, ITS  COLD.  HITTING THE TEENS AT NIGHT ONLY 20S TODAY.  BUT SUNNY.  LUCKY ME I DO NOT HAVE TO GO OUT IN IT.

TRISH....ITS WONDERFUL YOU HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME WITH YOUR CHILDHOOD FRIENDS.  IT SOUNDS LIKE A HAPPY GROUP.
OUR WIRES GOT CROSSES ON MIDSOMER.  I WONDERED IF IT WAS THE NEIL DUDGEON SERIES YOU WERE GOING TO WATCH.

DEVONNE......TOOTH ABSESSES ARE VERY PAINFUL.  I HOPE THE MEDS DEAL WITH IT QUICKLY.

I MADE A BATCH OF BUNDIES LAST NITE.  SINCE I AM DOING SO MANY THIS WEEK, I SHARED.  GOT GOOD REVIEWS FROM THE 2 NEIGHBORS.  I HAD 4 FOR MY SUPPER.
I PLAN TO MAKE THE TATER TOT SAUSAGE CASSY TODAY AS WELL AS ANOTHER BATCH OF BUNDIES.  IN THE CASSY I WILL ADD ANOTHER HALF LB OF SAUSAGE.  I THINK IT COULD USE MORE AND I AM A FAN OF JIMMY DEAN'S SAUSAGE.  I HAVE TO WASH A SINKFUL OF DISHES BEFORE I CAN MAKE THE BUNDIES SINCE I NEED TO USE THE SAME UTENSILS AND BAKING NEEDS.  I HATE DOING DISHES.

I STARTED A NEW PUZZLE THIS MORNING, THE UNICORN PAIR, WHICH THEY CLAIM GLOWS IN THE DARK.  I HAVE TO REPORT THAT I DO NOT LIKE THE FEEL OF THE FRONT OF THOSE TREATED PUZZLE PIECES.  WILL NOT GET A GLOW PUZZLE IN FUTURE.
I ALSO GOT MY PILLS SORTED FOR THE WEEK.

EVENTUALLY I WILL GO HUNT FOR THE APPLIQUE PATTERNS I THINK I HAVE AND ALSO DIG OUT MY XMAS DECORATIONS. THOSE ARE STILL ON MY 'TO DO' LIST.
HAVE A FINE DAY FRIENDS.  HUGS, QB S
