Theresa, you are our own energizer bunny!

I caved, closed the last window, which was open a few inches, and turned on the heat. We put the electric blanket on last week. It’s going to be 42 tonight! I also put the electric throw on the back of the couch, and I’m sitting with it on.
Time change is late this year, the first week of November. I thought Congress had a bill to cancel it? Though I never heard if we’d be on standard time all the time, or DST. I hate the time change, I feel jet lagged for a week!

Holly, I refused to put on the heat. We have an electric heater and I put it in the living room. Dean says it probably would be cheaper to turn on the gas furnace. I want to clean out the ducts before I turn it on and have not done that yet. I, too, was covered with a throw while reading in my chair today. Supposed to warm up a bit next week, so that will be nice. It was 59 degrees in my house this morning.

I looked at a couple of those clips on Youtube regarding the Janome needle threader. I think I can do it now. My manual does not fully explain it. Thanks.

Sandra, Dean recorded that movie as it is one of his favorites too. He has watched it several times. He loves all those old movies.
The pool we had at the other house was an inground concrete pool and it had to be drained some as to prevent cracking.

I made spaghetti with a meat sauce for supper along with some cheesy garlic bread. Sigh...I have been trying to avoid carbs but really wanted them today. I go to the doc next Friday so hopefully I will do better next week.

The Northern Lights were visible in Ohio tonight. Unfortunately, we live in a valley surrounded by trees and cannot see it. Anthony took some great pics in Columbus and sent them to us. He is an amatuer astronomer and has some powerful scopes.

SANDRA congrats on the Bingo win, every bit helps, enjoy your puzzles and reading, i have read a couple books lately too, Fiona Macintosh, not too bad, a bit wordy at times.
Thanks for your good thoughts, I'm letting the cards fall where they may with my brother, can't change anything., so just accepting what it is.

DEVONNE thanks to you too, you sound like you're ready too, just paid my anaesthetic guy over the phone, - he's expensive LOL , too much money for too short a time, hope he's nice.

HOLLY we have had hot, cold, warm and stormy this week, makes it hard to choose what to wear to bed, I have both summer and winter PJs LOL tonight will be summer again.

CHERYL lovely to see the lights if you can, we never can, although one of the people put up a pic this morning at sunrise, looks VERY like southern lights. I was going to suggest with the needle threader to make sure you use the foot lift to be sure the needle has risen to the correct height. often when you "wind' the needle up it's not quite the right place, I also pull my thread over and around from the right, not just straight from the left - does that make sense - no idea who to explain it otherwise, it works for me on the Pfaff.

JANET I think that our pool was a total waste after the kids left school, they never were home long enough to swim much, and it was a lot of work.

INDY I'm glad you had a good time in "crazy house" it's how we describe us when my sis and i get togheher with our families.

I have been at sewing, better get organised for dinner, I'm taking the boys with me, they enjoyed Nan's mussaman curry last night, but tomorrow they are on their own LOL

I got another couple pieces of fabric for the Alice quilt, Julie has already re-written many of the block instructions, it's a shame for any newbies who are doing this, they won't get a good result, and fabric is so expensive. I think it's a pretty quilt, but we have spent $50 on a book that a lot of the patterns and instructions won't work well. I just downloaded templates that Julie found online, so at least I don't have to trace from the book - even the simplest of blocks have not so good instructions.
And to have so many errors AFTER publishing is terrible, she said she had many make the quilt, but absolutely nowhere in the book is a pic of the full quilt finished, and we didn't realise that till we had all bought it.

I best get myself organised, I need to leave in 1/2 hour

Judy, welcome home! Hope you can relax for a full week.

Theresa, I would choose Vicksburg MNP over the Everglades any day!

I spoke to my sister yesterday. Melena has to call me when she visits, as there are no room phones. She is in the memory care unit, gets physical therapy and occupational therapy, goes to the dining room to eat. She is also nicer to Melena. She has her own private room and can take a shower every day here. She has made friends, which is good news.

I had a terrible night. Too hot, so turned on the a/c. Tossing and turning, trying to protect my bad left knee. Still painful after the cortisone shot, so was afraid to bend it. Up for water & nature call. Dogs had nature call & water too! Fell asleep on my stomach at 6:30 with legs straight, lol. Up at 10:30. I may need a nap today, lol.

It’s another beautiful day here. Pretty chilly when I got up but didn’t want to turn on the heat because it is going to get up to lower 80’s this afternoon.

I think the northern lights were here but I couldn’t see them. Probably because there is a school with lots of outdoor lights across the highway from me.

Good Morning to everyone. Have no plans for the day. Tracy won't be coming this weekend, they had other plans. I have no plans for now, just the usual, sitting around watching TV. Took Frank his coffee, drinking mine!

It's a beautiful day here today, very still, but the sun is out. Well, I have nothing more to say, so will sign off, wishing you all well, BJ.

We did our errands. mAC machine, library, UPS store, Aldi’s and Panera Bread to bring home lunch. It was 39 this morning!

Holly, I am trying to figure out what is mAC machine. I'm guessing it's an ATM?

Here's a picture of Greg in my new recliner. He is so good to me. Billy and I enjoyed many great vacations with him and Carter. He will be here for my surgery after he takes Carter to school. Started losing his hair when he was 35. He's in Charlotte, NC this weekend at a golf tournament.

and here's Carter...they love my chair, lol. My favorite part is the lumbar support and the heat. Carter has gained a lot of weight. Loves pizza. None of us are tall, but we are all southern stocky, lol.

Devonne, it stands for money access card. One bank had the slogan tap MAC, and it stuck in this area for my generation. easier to say than ATM.

I don’t know what planet I was on but didn’t know the Northern lights would be visible her?
My friends DH was discharged and the dr says he’s fine! But to cool it with the hiking for at least 10 days. . H they agree it would be better to die doing something you love than languish in a home or hosp. I may have told you about my firms…I’m convinced g-d will not let her die because he needs her here to do all the things she does. He too is very involved. At almost 90 he was still flying his plane, and gliding, hiking etc up until a week before his brain surgery in August.
I don’t know what I would do without her.

Well, we've signed on for Leaf Filter. They're coming to install already tomorrow. Rep said due to the election ads, they've temporarily halted they're ubiquitous (my word) ads which has resulted in some diminished business. He said, usually October is jammed and they have hired 6 crews, but not that much to do. Expensive but we really needed to do something and for too long. We did get a 10% military discount and he had a coupon in his car for another 20%.

I have a Whirlpool dishwasher and last night, I pushed the wrong thing to start it and screwed something up. Howard went on line to get instructions for a factory reset which didn't work. So, Bill is coming to look at it. They have the same d.w. Howard thinks the control panel is defunct. It's only 2 yrs. old and I only use it every two or three days. We'll see???

Devonne, nice pics of Greg and Carter...and the new recliner.    It's obvious your two very different sons love you very much and provide different needs for you.   Hope the drone works out. Howard, of course, has two defunct ones. The one ended up lost in the woods and he had to use the remote to listen for the sound of it's turning propeller to find it! Men and their toys!

Theresa, how neat that Luke will be closer to you, now after having to drive those long distances for him. His job always seems so interesting to me--the only park ranger I know of.
Will Sara teach or do research or what when she gets her PHD? Seems like Alex just needed a little "encouragement" to find his wings. Plus, supper at home, now and then is good.

We were just a little north and a little west of all the hurricane-caused mayhem while in VA. Our last morning in the hotel, we ate breakfast early and the lobby and breakfast room were filled with linemen waiting to start their day restoring power. Probably was the same the two days before, but we ate there much later on those days.

Linda's family goes about their business as usual when no one is visiting, but with us there, they bopped in and out much more, thus the insane asylum remark. As various ones came and went, the dogs started barking and tearing around--so lots of hubbub. But, sometimes, it was just Linda, Henry, Howard and I and the dogs who were mostly sleeping. Two of their grandsons came with their wives and baby boys, a one-year- old and an 8 mo. old. Easton and Declan, who, of course, added to the excitement and noise and fun. Babies don't like me, so I got to just observe them. They didn't care too much for Howard either! So, one evening, there were sixteen of us plus the three dogs! I think Linda with her COPD and lupus was completely worn out but still enjoyed having all of us together. I have a bit of trouble understanding the Southern accents and some of them speak very softly and/or very rapidly. I have to say, pardon me?, quite a bit. Howard admitted he also has some trouble and he grew up there.

It's in the mid-80s here today. We did turn on our heat last evening but off this morning. I'm always for stretching out that time as long as we can but gave in because his hands are always cold, since his stroke.   Like some of you, I've also switched off with my night clothes.

Rambling, so I'll close this and await Bill and ML's visit to check out the d.w. Last I heard, he was at Menard's... Have a nice evening and sweet dreams.

MARYLOU sounds like us, cold, then hot, then cool, then warms back up, I never know what to put on, it was quite chilly going to training this morning, before we finished warming up I was already sweating LOL

SANDRA beautiful pics, the colour here was similar, not as rich. but red pretty much only, often it's got green and yellow threads. How was the soup?? and stew. I have been doing more reading as well, just picked up a Jennifer Chiaverini from the library, only read a couple pages, but I think I'm finished already LOL

DEVONNE that looks great, I can see why they love it too, I would love one like that, you will put it to good use after the surgery, it's this coming week isn't it??

JANET I didn't know either, one of our neighbourhood group was up early and took a pic, I've not known the lights, even tiny bits of them to be visible here. They often are in Tasmania, and also Melbourne and South Australia, all the southern states.

INDY I looked up the Leaf thing, so it's to cover the gutters to prevent leaves dropping in?? At least that's what came up, we have gutter guard there, it's a kind of plastic grid thing that goes across the gutters and stops the leaves getting caught, we don't have it, the guys clean out the leaves a couple times a year, but it's getting to the point that we hire someone to do it, or get the guard.

I did my training, then picked up my library books, I didn't know about the surgery or I wouldn't have bothered, I might not be comfortable reading with one good and one bad eye. It might be interesting LOL We shall see.

I also cut up some fat 1/4s most of us bought a pack of really white & white on white Devonstone fabrics, and I have so much of my batiks left I cut them all into 10" squares ready to make a pattern of Julie's, It was featured on their bed in As Time Goes BY, all pinwheels, but larger ones, I now need to cut the 10" ones into 5 squares, then diagonally cut them, sew and finally trim to 4 1/2" blocks, I have a great tool for that, it's a Block-Loc trims them perfectly.

Didn't sleep well last night, and training was TOUGH this morning, we were all pretty much done at the end, It was good to lay down and stretch out LOL --- so I am ready for bed, but it's too early!! I need to stay up a bit

Instead of "the John," I call my toilet "the Jim." That way it sounds better when I say I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

ITS SO NICE THAT THIS YEAR WE HAVE LOVELY COLOR IN OUR LEAVES. NO RAIN AND WIND TO PULL THEM OFF OR MAKE THEM BROWN.

Trish, I haven’t read Jennifer Chiaverini in years, her sty,e of writing doesn’t do it for me. More of a narrative, I never get drawn into the story. My friend Barbara loves her, so different strokes.

Sunny and in the 70’s today, I’ll open some windows later.

I made biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast, it was a hit. Then I trimmed down 3 tablerunners, now to turn them right side out and topstitch.

Were invited to my niece Sharon’s tomorrow night, for cake to celebrate C’s birthday and Connor’s engagement. I’m going to make a trifle that I’m inventing. Chunks of pound cake for the base, then pumpkin pudding, then apple pie filling, then vanilla pudding, topped with Cool Whip.

Devonne, it’s Monday, right? Did they give you an arrival time yet? We’ll be thinking of you!

Trish, after my first cataract surgery, they took out of the lens of the affected side from my glasses, so I had no problems reading or driving.

Yes, Trish, Leaf Filter keeps leaves and all debris out of the gutters. There are several types of this product. Leaf Filter, advertises extensively, is expensive, so we'll see. I just talked to the "kid" who's installing it. Offered him the rest room. I felt a bit funny, but, you know...and I'm old enough to be his grandmother and then some!

Bill fixed the dishwasher with two pushes of the proper buttons. Well, not really buttons now, but the word START. What on earth were we doing wrong? More embarrassing for Howard than for me who readily admits to my mechanical failings. I know one thing, I will very carefully select anything before I push anywhere. Howard still doesn't think it'll be okay so we'll see.

Trish, you have really been on a "merry-go-round", lately. Even with the changing temperatures. You'll get your cataract surgeries done and before you turn around will be back to everyday life. That's my prediction. However, the waiting time leading up to it just has some nerves to it. Not very well put, but best I can say it.

Andrew drove out from Chicago late last night. He'll be leaving his car and take the electric train, the South Shore, back later today. There is no parking with his apt., no on-street parking, either, so he has had to pay for a parking garage these past few days when he had to have his car. As he said, he did fine in Italy for 4 mos. using public transportation, so...
Several, maybe all of his friends have done the same. He's an hour plus away, but seems right next door compared to this last year. That is, to me and his mother.

Sounds fun, Holly. Hope your trifle turns out well. It's sounds good.

One of the streets in Appalachia, VA Howard lived on as a child is so steep that, to me, the houses look like they're on an angle until you get even with them and then, of course, they are even with the street. Optical illusion, I guess.

Well, the installer is done and gone. Time for some lunch. Have a good afternoon .
