Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Have a wonderful week, ladies!🤗

Forgive me for not thanking everyone individually for the bday wishes, so I'll just say THANK YOU and when you read it, please know I mean YOU! 😁🤗❤️

I hope everyone who has been ill is feeling better today!

Devonne, you have a wonderful attitude with all of this!  Prayers continue! 🙏🏻

Prayers also continue for all those affected by the storm!  Such devastation!!

Carol, the seasons are being pushed on us earlier and earlier!  We went to The Home Depot and Lowe’s and both places had out huge creepy Halloween stuff, and this was still September! 🙄  I do not decorate for Halloween so none of that stuff appeals to me.  However, I do tend to rush things and go all out when it comes to Christmas! 😁

I better run!  Early morning tomorrow!

(((hugs!!!))) & prayers!     ~MnM~ aka Diane

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

THANKS DIANE you beat me to it, at least i remembered to get here tonight - our Halloween is creepy also, yuk plastic stuff, I don't participate so I don't really care

DEVONNE that cake looks good, I see now why they call it a 'bar' I might try it, found a few recipes, one had raisins AND nuts, one with applesauce. I'll see what I have on hand, I would like to add ginger as well, it might work, I'm still trying to find a recipe similar to a ginger cake we had in Ireland, so, so good, rich, heavy and so moist.

SANDRA I hate our programming, so hard to find good shows, I watched the new one you mentioned, it was enjoyable, and forgot that Death in Paradise is also available. Enjoy the soup, cassy and your sons visit (((hugs))))

JANET hope your day got better, i am always getting into trouble for speaking too loud - or within his hearing, just can't help it sometimes.

STRINGS sorry about the knitting, could you undo it all and start again (((hugs)))

BJ I hope Tracy is Ok, and you feel better tomorrow (((hugs)))

HOLLY I'm glad your recipe turned out OK, I often see things on FB and wonder how they go, I'm not game to try them, some are pretty dodgy LOL Pop it on the recipe thread if you think it's a keeper.

CHERYL I have to say our girls for their formal go all out, long dresses, hair and makeup done,  and OMG some of them at 15/16 for juniors could pass for over 21, seniors are 18 or so. we have a place where the kids can get a gorgoeus gown that has been worn  before, they have them donated, and they "loan" them out, and the kids can return them for another wearer, I have heard a few tales of parents paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars for the formal night, so glad M & G have boys, at least it's just shirt, pants, tie and jacket, and they are done LOL

I miss Dianne too, often something will bring her to mind, but they are happy memories, it was 7 yrs last Thursday , hard to believe it's been so long.

I have been pottering today, putting together a folder for the Alice quilt, and also doing some blocks for the shadow quilt, it was a free pattern from Fat Quarter shop, the instructions are wieldy, and also one cutting instruction was incorrect, so I have 36  of 2 1/2" BY 4 1/2" wasted pieces, hate when that happens.
The Alice quilt will be pretty, but her instructions are not so good either, there more than 15 blocks you had to download the corrections, AND she does the sew 2 pieces together around the edge, cut across the middle twice to get 4   1/2 square triangles, so bad for new sewers, all the outside edges will be on the bias.  It can be done, BUT it's so easy to stretch them a little, then the block is wonky, the woman on Missouri Star quilts does that method  all the time, drives Julie nuts. Julie even has us make sure the outside edges are on the straight of grain for foundation piecing, a bit fiddly to learn, but makes a big difference,

I might need to go pick up M & G and the boys later, Hannah's wedding is on, finishing around midnight, they planned on getting an Uber home, Warwick dropped them to the reception, they came home after the church, Hannah looked gorgeous, and Danielle (Mum) was stunnning, they took some pics for me,
Problem is our football final is on tonight too, so I think all those who have gone to clubs/pubs to watch, or even the game itself, will be wanting Ubers too after celebrating. They'll call me, and the Mr's car is outside now for him to leave early tomorrow, they wouldn't all fit in my car comfortably.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Kid 1: "Hey, I bet you're still a virgin." Kid 2: "Yeah, I was a virgin until last night ." Kid 1: "As if." Kid 2: "Yeah, just ask your sister." Kid 1: "I don't have a sister." Kid 2: "You will in about nine months."

ITS ANOTHER LOVELY DAY HERE.  I HOPE IT DOESN'T START RAINING AROUND OCT 10TH.  WHEN IT DOES, IT KNOCKS THE LEAVES OFF THE TREES AND OUR AUTUMN COLORS ARE MINIMAL AT BEST. OUR BEST COLORS COME IN AROUND THE 10TH TO 15TH OF OCT.

CHERYL.......I REMEMBER THAT CAKE AND WE CALLED IT SPICE CAKE AROUND HERE.  YES, ITS DENSE AND DELISH.  THE TOP IS VANILLA FROSTING, NOT CREAM CHEESE.
AS FOR DRESSES, I AM AMAZED AT THE SHORTNESS OF DRESSES I SEE IN CURRENT MOVIES AND ON TV THESE DAYS.  THEY ARE HIKED NEARLY UP TO THE CHEEKS, AND I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THEIR FACE.  SINCE I NEVER GO OUT, I CAN'T SAY WHAT THEY ARE WEARING AROUND HERE.  OUR OLDER LADIES DON'T WEAR THEM THAT HIGH.  WE LIKE TO HIDE THE ROLLS OF FAT.

DIANE....I USED TO DECORATE OUTDOORS FOR THE BIG HOLIDAYS.  I HAD DOLLS, PILLOWS, AND THINGS I COULD USE FOR THE INDOORS FOR JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING, EVEN FLAG DAY.  FOR XMAS WE HAD A SANTA IN HIS SLEIGH WITH REINDEER ACROSS OUR FRONT PORCH ROOF AND SNOWMEN AND WOMEN IN OUR FRONT YARD.  LIGHTS AROUND THE HOUSE AND THE WINDOWS AND THE GARAGE. HALLOWEEN HAD A FEW FIGURES IN THE YARD AND MOSTLY REAL PUMPKINS, CARVED.  NOW I JUST PUT A DOORHANGING ON MY DOOR AND CHANGE IT EVERY FEW DAYS.

MY SON IS OFF TO THE BANK FOR ME THEN SHOPPING.  HE WILL BE IN P RICO IN 2 WEEKS SO HE HAS TO SHOP FOR 3 WEEKS SUPPLY.  IF HE MISSES ANYTHING I CAN ALWAYS GET IT ONLINE.  MY STORE DELIVERS FOR A $10 FEE PLUS TIP.
I HAVE PLENTY FOR HIM TO BRING HOME TODAY.  HE WON'T HAVE TO COOK, NOR WILL HIS WIFE.  THEY BOTH LIKE THE MENU.

LIKE MANY OF YOU I GET TEARY-EYED WHEN I HEAR A SPECIAL SONG OR A SINGER OR WATCH A PARTICULAR MOVIE.  MEMORIES CAN BE SO VIVID.

THAT'S IT LADIES.  I HAVE NOTHING SPECIAL LEFT TO DO THIS MORNING SO I WILL TRY TO CATCH UP ON MY READING WHILE I WAIT FOR MY SON TO ARRIVE AND HAVE LUNCH.
BE SAFE.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Cheryl- the pool has what they call a winter plug…when you take it out the water drops to a point where it would still skim and be able to run the filter.  You basically have no control over it.  The frost line around here isn’t very deep.  The excess water runs into the woods.  It won’t hurt the animals.  In the spring we get a truckload of water in to refill it.  Some rely on rain and/or their well….too chances for us.  The truck load is only $200, much cheaper than replacing the well pump (about $700-1100).
The cover is a reinforced cover.  It says it will support an adult but I wouldn’t want to test that.  We will see an occasional critter, Racoon, squirrel on it.
Trish- it did improve, mainly because he worked outside and I stayed in.  😊

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Cheryl, I googled Janome 6600 needle threader, and there are links to you tube videos of how to do it.

Another sunny day in the 70’s here! I hear Milton is projected to hit Florida badly. I was talking to my brother John, he’s in central Florida, and he said two couples on his street have sold their places and moved back North.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Thank you, Diane. Faith over fear! I don't decorate for Halloween either, but I do Fall decorations.

I have vegetable soup in the instant pot. It smells so good!

It looks like Milton is going to spare Georgia and the Carolinas. I would certainly not want to live in Florida, nor near the coast anywhere. I'm as far south as I want to be.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Thinking about Judy. They were only 2 1/2 hours from Asheville when they went to VA. I hope they didn't get any bad weather. She was an hour from where I grew up. In 2022, eastern KY got hit by the worse flooding ever. Due to climate change it has come to the mountains.

Trish, I've been watching videos on making this spanish bar. The first one I watched she used ginger and cloves. I certainly am looking for the "easy way out" recipe, lol. I do think I will add molasses and apple sauce. I remember it being really moist.

I have finally finished going thru my photos and added the ones I want to have printed. I used Snapfish and it's been a wonderful site, letting me resize & enhance the photos.

Marilynn called me today. She is on her way to St. Louis. She has such a positive attitude. That's the best way to be!

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

A boy asks his father, "Dad, are bugs good to eat?" "That's disgusting. Don't talk about things like that over dinner," the dad replies. After dinner the father asks, "Now, son, what did you want to ask me?" "Oh, nothing," the boy says. "There was a bug in your soup, but now it’s gone."

WE GOT RAIN.  I AM HOPING ITS OVER AND DONE SOON.  I DON'T WANT WIND AND RAIN TO TEAR OFF THE CHANGING LEAVES.

I AM WAITING FOR MAINT. TO REMOVE MY A/C UNIT.  ITS ON THE SCHEDULE FOR TODAY.  WHILE I WAIT I CANNOT START MY MASHED POTATOES NOR SORT MY MEATS FOR FREEZING.  I LIKE TO HAVE A CLEAR SCHEDULE FOR THOSE THINGS.  INSTEAD I WILL DO SOME PUTER STUFF AND THEN READ.  I HAVE LEFTOVERS FOR MY LUNCH.

I WISH YOU ALL A NICE DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Good Morning to everyone!!  It is very breezy up high this morning, but not a breath of air moving down low, strange!!   It's very interesting, the neighbors have a lot of air moving down low!!  The sun is out , very bright.  Gloria will be here any moment.

I have a vase full or orangey red tulips, they are very beautiful!  Love having fresh flowers around.  Just love this time of year.  Well, I really don't have anything to say this morning, so will sign off, wishing you all well, BJ.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Sometimes I forget what a small group we are now, when I don't see many posts since I last posted.

I've been following the Hurricane Milton news. I also refreshed my memory about Katrina and how devastating that hurricane was. It's hard to believe that was 19 years ago.

I've been so lazy today. Think I am going to take a nap, then get the laundry caught up.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Devonne, yeah. What are we down to now, about ten active people?
I decided I wanted a new Apple Watch, mine was a 6. So I ordered it online, and went to the Apple Store to pick it up an hour later. They took the old one off, and set up the new one. In and out in 20 minutes. Then we went to Cracker Barrel for a late lunch. Then home for a nap. Brought home leftovers, yay.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

HOLLY & DEVONNE I think you're right, not many of us now, I miss those not posting, and DEVONNE I am glad Marilynn has chatted with you, I had sent her a card, and a few emails, but no response.

SANDRA I have heard that one before, never fails to raise a giggle, it's a pain waiting for things to get done, you have no control over their time though - enjoy your leftovers.

BJ We saw tulips a few weeks ago, they were so beautiful I would have loved to go to where there is a massive fields of them in Amsterdam.

HOLLY the Apple is so expensive here, I have a Garmin, had it for 4 years now, it still does what I wanted it to do. I just update my App and it keeps on going. which reminds me, I need to charge it, the charge lasts usually for a week, lately it's been a bit short of the week, so maybe it's giving up LOL

Keeping those in the path of the hurricane in my thoughts, heard it's going to hit soon - so much still to clear after the last one!

It was really hot yesterday, hot overnight, but then around 4am the temp dropped and stayed that way all day and until now, I had the A/C on cooling last night, it's on heating now LOL
We all were so cold at training, warmed up pretty quick though

I heard tonight that my brother has bowel cancer, they found it in tests last week, had no idea he was having the test, apparently he will have scans later this week, and then chemo and radiation, then surgery, my Sis-in-law doesn't pass messages on well, so I will try to get to see him early next week after they have some news.
She told all "our" family in our group chat, so my poor sis will come home from work to this, she'll get a shock, she's doing overnight with her disability home.
I am concerned that he doesn't get regular checks and is not proactive with his health, and it is requiring surgery, but not really any news yet, so I guess it's a waiting game.

I have a day tomorrow to do what I please. then my eye specialist on Thursday, I also got my letter to do my 'fit for driving' assessment. I already have a DRs appointment in 10 days, so hoping I can schedule the nurse to do the prelim test the same day. She does all the questions, will call them tomorrow.

I have my winter pjs out again, had already moved to my summer ones!!

See you later.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

I'M GIVING YOU TWO.  THE FIRST DOESN'T QUITE HAVE THE ZING ONE MIGHT EXPECT FROM A JOKE.  BUT I LIKE THE 2ND ONE.

I went down the street to a 24-hour grocery store. When I got there, the guy was locking the front door. I said, "Hey! The sign says you're open 24 hours." He Said, "Yes, but not in a row!"

Q: Is Google male or female? A: Female, because it doesn't let you finish a sentence before making a suggestion.

ITS AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS DAY.  SUNSHINE.  WINDOW OPEN.  FRESH AIR.  I ALMOST FORGOT WHAT FRESH AIR WAS LIKE.

A NEIGHBOR BROUGHT ME SOME CKN VEGGIE SOUP FOR SUPPER LAST NITE.  SHE SAID SHE WAS CLEANING OUT HER FRIDGE.  IT HAD EVERYTHING IN IT AND IT TASTED GOOD.  THOUGH I WISH SHE HAD CUT SMALLER PIECES.  THE BABY CARROTS WERE UNCUT AND THE ZUKE BITS QUITE LARGE.  STILL AND ALL, IT WAS GOOD.  NO COOKING FOR ME.  THAT'S THE BEST PART I THINK.
TODAY I PLAN TO MAKE THOSE MASHED POTATOES I MISSED YESTERDAY
MY A/C UNIT IS NOW IS STORAGE AND THEN I HAD TO WAIT A WHILE TIL HE CAME BACK WITH MY NEW WINDOW SCREEN.  HE REMOVED MY LAST ONE FOR A HOLE IN IT.  NOW I CAN OPEN MY WINDOW WITHOUT BUGS SNEAKING INSIDE.  AND THE FRESH AIR, IT FEELS SO DARN GOOD.
I MAY DO MY LAUNDRY TODAY.  ITS PILING UP A LITTLE.  AND I HAVE SOME ROUND STEAK DEFROSTING.  ITS GREAT FOR STEAK PIZZIOLA (STEAK SIMMERED FOR HOURS IN TOMATO SAUCE).

I AM SLIPPING ON MY READING.  I REALLY MUST GET BACK TO IT.  I HAVE SEVERAL TO GET THRU BEFORE SALLY RETURNS WITH MORE BOOKS FOR ME.

WISHING YOU ALL A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Trish, if it makes you feel any better, my favorite cardiologist had colon cancer requiring surgery! He was in his 50’s at the time. He retired about 2 years ago.
Low 60’s here now and sunny. I finally put Manda and Steph’s table runners together and quilted them, have to get them mailed off. Now I have to do mine and Heather’s. I did a sunflower print as a backing, per Manda’s request, so they are reversible.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Good Morning to everyone!!  I have no energy this morning, can barely move!!  Took Frank his coffee and think he will stay in bed for awhile.  He also has no energy.  It is very still outside, not a breath of air is stirring.

Think I will go back to my chair and rest a bit.  Hope you all are having a really nice day.  Sending my love and best wishes, BJ.

I’m glad the pool is closed.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Wow, Janet, yeah, I checked the site a couple of times yesterday and no new posts.
It’s another sunny day, was only in the 40’s this morning, yikes!
Housecleaner Lisa was just here, so I holed up in the sewing room while she cleaned. I got 3 tablerunners sandwiched and sewed the edges. Then our WiFi was out for a little while, so my music stopped.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 6 ~ SAT OCT 12

Q: Can a kangaroo jump higher than the Empire State Building?
A: Of course. The Empire State Building can't jump.

AND SINCE ITS SMALL....

In a Catholic school cafeteria, a nun places a note in front of a pile of apples, "Only take one. God is watching." Further down the line is a pile of cookies. A little boy makes his own note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."

YES,  JANET, I AM SURPRISED AT THE NO-SHOWS.  IT WOULD BE LOVELY IF EVERYONE COULD JUST POST THAT THEY ARE READING AND A 'HOW ARE YOU TODAY' LIKE OUR DEAR BJ.  SHE HAS ISSUES BUT MANAGES TO SAY 'HELLO' EVERY DAY.  IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES OUT OF THEIR DAY.  WE MISS YOU LADIES.  PLEASE STOP IN DAILY IF ONLY FOR A FEW MOMENTS.

A NEIGHBOR BROUGHT ME SOME PORK CHOP CHUTNEY SOUP WHICH I HAD FOR SUPPER.  SINCE I PUT HER ON MY LIST SHE HAS BEEN SENDING ME FOOD TOO.  LIKE ME, SHE TENDS TO MAKE A LOT.  SO SHE SHARES.  IT WAS GOOD.   SINCE I MADE THE MASHED POTATOES, I SENT HER HOME WITH A CONTAINER AND THEN GAVE SOME TO MY NEIGHBOR NEXT DOOR SINCE SHE ONLY EATS MASHED POTATOES AND NO OTHERS.  THIS SHARING IS GOING OVER GREAT WITH SOME OF US.  IF THEY DON'T COOK THEY DO OTHER THINGS LIKE DELIVER PACKAGES RIGHT TO OUR DOOR OR PICK UP SOMETHING AT THE GROCERY STORE.  THE GARDENERS SHARED THEIR CROPS THIS SUMMER.  ITS A GREAT LITTLE GROUP HERE.

WE ARE STARTING OUR COFFEE MORNING AGAIN.  ITS SOMETHING WE DID HERE A FEW YEARS AGO AND PETERED AWAY.  IT CAME BACK ON TUESDAY BUT THE NOTICE IN THE ELEVATOR WAS TOO LATE FOR ME.  I DON'T GET ON TIL MAIL CALL AFTER NOONTIME AND THE COFFEE WAS AT 8 TO  9.  DONUTS AND COFFEE CAKE WERE SERVED AND I MISSED IT.  I HAVE MY CALENDAR MARKED FOR NEXT WEEK.  TIME FOR CHATTING AND VISITING WITH SOME OF THE OTHERS THAT WE DON'T OFTEN SEE, I HOPE.
ITS BINGO TONITE.  I HOPE TO WIN A BIT, THOUGH I DON'T MIND A SMALL LOSS NOW AND THEN.  IT WON'T BREAK ME.

I SEE THAT THE GOOD WITCH IS HAVING A MARATHON TODAY ON HALLMARK MYSTERIES.  I HAVE SET MY TV TO RECORD THEM.  I'VE SEEN THEM BEFORE BUT WITH HALLOWEEN LOOMING, I THOUGHT I'D WATCH THEM AGAIN.  I LIKE THE CAST AND THE STORYLINE.

I THINK I WANTED TO SAY SOMETHING ELSE, BUT IT FLEW OUT OF MY OLD HEAD.  IF IT REMEMBER, I WILL BE BACK.
IN THE MEANTIME, PRAYERS FOR OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY IN THE PATH OF MILTON.  I UNDERSTAND HE IS A TOUGH ONE AT CATEGORY 5, THE HIGHEST NUMBER.  BLESSINGS EVERYONE.

I HAVE A BIT OF CLEANING TO DO AND THE COOKING WILL BE MEAT AND POTATOES TODAY.  I HAVE NO IDEA WHICH CASSEROLE WILL BE ON THE MENU NEXT.
STAY SAFE.  HUGS, QB S
