Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Geez, Janet, 83* at 11 sounds idyllic.  It was 83* at 7 AM here.  We're under heat advisories because of the "feels like" temps and people still without power since last week's storm.

Not much time to read.  Sorry about the COVID diagnosis, Trish.

Some pictures for you from my garden.

Maggie. Very bright and oh so fragrant.

Marie Pavie.  Steady all summer bloomer.

Some Mystic Blue salvias and Caldwell Pink rose hiding under there.

Cramoisi Superieur.  French for superior crimson.  I think it's an apt name, don't you?

Mrs. Oakley Fisher.  She must have been a beauty to have such a lovely rose named after her.  Or maybe it was wishful thinking, LOL?

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

88 here at 2 pm. Carol, your flowers are so beautiful! The heat of Houston was one reason Manda was happy when Ben got the transfer.

We just got home from our monthly lunch with friends, always good. So nice to visit with friends our age!

Our state senator’s trial is going on. He had gold bars in his house, among other charges. He blamed it on his wife’s culture. He was on trial a few years ago and got off, either a mistrial or hung jury, I don’t remember.

My brother is considering solar. If you have solar on the roof, and have a house fire, your regular homeowner’s won’t pay, you need special homeowners.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Nice to read and catch up just now.  Yesterday, at her insistence, ML came over and cleaned up my whole kitchen.  I hate to admit this, but it gets ahead of me and I can't seem to keep it up.  Of course, he and I can just plow along but when the group is due here, I HAVE to get a handle on things.  Her thought was if she did that, it would give me a leg up and it has.  Struggling all the time with back and hip pain is half or more of it.

So sorry you have to miss your retreat, Trish.  They're such a nice change of pace plus doing what you love to do without all the interruptions of home and family...and endless cooking!    Hope you feel better, soon.

Patty, love to hear of yours and what all you've done while away. That's what I'd be doing if I was going to a retreat--handwork.  But then, I'm no longer much of a sewing machine sewer.  I should at least use my little featherweight more-- MY "Sadie Grace".

Do you or did you ever name your cars?  I got the idea years ago from my cousin's wife, Judy in SC.  I named my car 'Fern' (no Ferns in my family).  But, she named hers 'Frances' after her mother-in-law--my Aunt Frannie.  Let's just say that didn't go over any better than when she named her dog, 'George', after her father-in-law.  Aunt Frannie was furious!    She was a person who put on some airs, so she was highly insulted by both.  This was all years ago.

We don't seem to have gobs of visible pollen around here but the cicadas have just now started their "singing".    I'd forgotten what they're  sound was but don't find it annoying or anything.  It's rather an eerie sound.  So hard to believe they stay underground for 17 years.  I've found two dead ones on the front porch.  I told Howard we were going to eat them.  I was going to look for some recipes.  He declined in no uncertain  terms!    I can't imagine eating insects but we had a boy in school who would catch grasshoppers and eat their legs just to freak us girls out.  Clarence Grott...but he turned out to be a good guy.  Married a woman who had two kids.  She left them all and he raised them, himself.  His stepchildren....

Well, I'd better quit the foolishness and go back to my clean kitchen and finish the tuna/macaroni salad I'm making for supper.  Wishing you all a good day.  Enjoy the beauty of spring.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Judy, my PopPop called all his cars Lizzie. My brother Mike bought a truck from Ed’s dad, also Ed. So the truck’s name is Ed, “Ed and I went to….” So Eddie named the truck Ralph gave him, Ralph. I haven’t named any of my cars.

Trish, so sorry you have Covid, that sucks. I hope you have a light dose.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Judy, don’t eat them! (I know you were joking.). My friend’s dog eats them and immediately throws up. You would think he would learn.

The potluck lunch I was invited to today was very nice. Lots of good food- Italian beef sandwiches and several side dishes with white sheet cake and strawberries for dessert. And even better than the food was a great visit with friends.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Trish, so sorry you have Covid! Hope you get over it fast. What did your doctor tell you to take?

Carol, Mrs. Oakley Fisher is my favorite of these! I watch a guy on You Tube from south Texas. He said the heat index today was 115...that's horrible and the hot months aren't here yet. Yikes!

I guess Theresa is still recovering from her long trip.

Our new Publix grocery store opened today. I got strawberries, blackberries, plums, peaches and watermelon (already cut). I like their ham salad in the deli. It's so close to me, maybe 2 1/2 miles.

Carol- lovely flowers.
Yesterday’s temp was 89 at 3 pm.  The pool water has reached 76.  Still too cold to go in, for us anyway.
Trish - sorry about the Covid dx.  Too bad about the retreat.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Good Morning, it is 54* here this morning, but believe it will really warm up.  There is a slight breeze and a tiny bit of sun.  I have to go to Dr. today and get a shot, can't even remember what for, it's HELL to get so old you don't remember anything, but at least I'm still living!!!

I'm pretty sure Rhonda will be coming to take me for shot.  Not so sure!  Have no other plans for the day.  I don't have anything else to say for now, so will sign off, wishing you all well, BJ.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

BJ........I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.  I AM 2 YEARS BEHIND YOU AND THERE ARE DAYS WHEN ALL I DO IS SIT AROUND WATCHING TV EXCEPT FOR EATING.  AND THE EASY DAYS ARE JUST LEFTOVERS.  MY DAYS OF CLEANING AROUND THE HOUSE ARE LIMITED AND I THINK A LOT ABOUT FAMILY THAT HAVE ALREADY PASSED  AS WELL AS DREAMING OF THEM.  OF COURSE IN THE DREAMS, WE ARE ALL SPRY AND HEALTHY.  ITS TOUGH GETTING OLDER BUT BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE. WE JUST HAVE TO KEEP ON PUSHING.

CAROL.......THANKS FOR THE FLOWERS. LOVE SEEING THEM.  ROSES ARE AMONG MY FAVORTIES, TOO.

JUDY......YES, I NAMED MY CARS DEPENDING ON THEIR MODEL.  WHEN I HAD A LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL HER NAME WAS PRISCILLA.  I LIKED NAMING THEM.

TRISH.....I HOPE YOU ARE DOING OK ON MEDS TODAY.

I NEVER GOT TO BINGO LAST NITE.  MY EAR AMPLIFIER WENT DEAD.  IT SOMETIMES WORKS A FEW MINUTES AND THEN STOPS WITH ALL KINDS OF STATIC.  CAN'T USE IT LIKE THAT AT BINGO.  I ORDERED A NEW POCKETALKER WHICH IS ALREADY IN THE MAIL SO I SHOULD NOT BE WITHOUT HEARING FOR MUCH LONGER.

ITS ANOTHER HOT DAY TODAY BUT NOT AS HOT AS YESTERDAY WHEN IT HIT 91* AT ITS ZENITH.  RIGHT NOW IT 85.  ANOTHER HOTTY TOMORROW AS WELL.  BUT I AM INDOORS WITH A/C SO I DON'T MIND THE HOT WEATHER AT ALL SINCE I AM NOT OUTDOORS GARDENING THIS YEAR.

I CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT WHAT I'M COOKING TODAY.  I RAN OUT OF TOMATO SOUP WHICH I NEED FOR THE CASSY I PLANNED.  I THOUGHT I HAD SOME BUT IT WAS A 4-PACK OF CHICKEN NOODLE INSTEAD.  DUH.  I HAVE TOMATO SOUP ON MY NEXT GROCERY LIST. YES, I COULD USE TOMATO SAUCE BUT DID NOT WANT TO OPEN A LARGE CAN AND ONLY USE PART OF IT.   INSTEAD I AM MAKING A SMALL MEATLOAF WITH TATERS AND CARROTS AROUND IT.  I ALSO LIKE MEATLOAF SANDWICHES FOR ANOTHER MEAL.

THAT'S IT FOLKS.  NOTHING EXCITING HAPPENING HERE.  HUGS FOR ALL, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Sandra and BJ, I have had a lot of days during May of watching TV. The sinus infection & allergies have kept my energy down this month. I've also taken more naps than I ever have.

Today I put out two bags of brown mulch around my hybrid roses. I think one more bag is all I need in this area. The extra bags I'll put around my two trees. I've had them for weeks, lol.

I have a meatloaf in the oven and I saved enough ground beef for eggplant pizza tomorrow and tacos another day. I also like meatloaf sandwiches.

I never did name my cars, only sewing machines, lol. My first sewing machine was a Morse Brothers, then a White, Kenmore, Pfaff and now Brother. I still have my Kenmore Elite. I kept it when I was told it was made by Janome. The only thing I don't like about it is the speed.

Remember a month ago I said I bought some wicker chairs for my front porch? They are still sitting here in the foyer, lol. I haven't felt like pressure washing the porch and I was also waiting for the momma bird and her babies to leave; now I have another bird nest.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Afternoon my Friends!

QB thanks for keeping our friends here updated on my journey!

I am still working on mom's taxes.  The federal and state are filed we are doing the property sales from the beginning of the year.  Trying to figure out how much she originally paid for the house, and what my uncle paid for the property....  All back in the 60's.  Thanks goodness they threw nothing out, except the improvements they made on the house, those bills are nowhere to be found!

I am putting a box together for Luke, the "I forgot" box.  I am going to make him a list on Google Docs of what he needs for each seasonal job, I can bring back what he doesn't need.  I had to buy so much stuff that he had sitting here at home, while I was in Maine!  I could have shot the boy!   Told hubby I need the receipts for his list!  The boy forgot a vacuum!  Plus more!  First trip and second trip to Walmart was costly!

I did get to do some of Acadia while I was there, but the day I had planned to spend there was waylaid by no internet in the park housing.  I spent part of the afternoon on the phone with a provider in Bangor, who told me that it would not be strong enough, then a trip to Verizon, bypassed AT&T, and then to US Cellular.  Took my whole afternoon.  Made Luke and housemates Spaghetti for supper, cheaper than going out!  Then left for my hotel and left the next morning homeward.  By then I-95 was back open!

I did stop by the L. L. Bean store, nice but very pricey, I knew that but had to go anyway.  Enjoyed the long stop and some walking.  Then on to my first nights stop.  Somewhere in Pennsylvania!

The next day stopped at Shenandoah National park.  Absolutely worth the stop.  Hiked a trail, stopped to get my NP book stamped, and buy some token items, walking stick medallions.  On the trail I used my Merlin app to identify the bird sounds/songs, it was so cool!  Then off towards home and the stop for the day! I think this stop was in North Carolina!

My stop for the last day of traveling home was Kings Mountain National Battlefield!  We have stopped there a lot.  It's technically in South Carolina, but you have to go through NC to get there!  Another beautiful day and nice hike.  Only stamped my NP book there, no purchases.

Since I have been home I have been dealing with mom and the facility, in addition to her tax stuff!  I also started and finished an outdoor project!  I got some of the pavers from the house in Columbia and found a place to put them.  I didn't realize when I started the project that the previous owners put frequent new layers of rocks down on the path.  Shovel didn't work, had to use other tools!  I have several buckets of dirt/rocks.  I will use that as I fix the brick walkway!

I am trying to do the mystery quilt!  My laptop has been less than cooperative!  I got the fabric, so that step is done!  LOL!  I plan on printing the instructions tonight, assuming my laptop is up to the challenge!

Now you are caught up on my little corner of the world!

Later my Friends!

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Good evening friends,
Trish, so sorry about the covid diagnosis and missing your retreat.  Get well soon.

Sandra, smart of you to make a weekly list of chores.  My mom used to have specific days for specific chores and she followed it.  For example, wash clothes on Monday, iron them Tuesday, mop floors on Wednesday,, etc.  This is not exact but what she did.  She was always working in my young days.  She was not so rigid after we kids left the house.

Devonne, I make meatloaf often and Dean would rather have sandwiches than a meal with it.  Now I usually make two loaves and freeze one to take out for sandwiches.

Theresa, sounds like you had a very productive trip!  Luke is very lucky to have you manage his packing details.  Shenandoah is one of my favorite places ever!  We love, love, love the Sky Line Drive and have done it a few times.  Have not gone for a few years now and it is time to go back.

I made some potato salad today and we had that and cold cut sub sandwiches for supper.  It was lovey weather today but the past two have been hot and humid.  Almost hit a record of 91 on Tuesday but only got to 90.

Nothing else going on here.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

I have never had a meatloaf sandwich. Do you heat the meatloaf? Bread, toast or roll?

Theresa, glad you made it home!

I drove Skyline Drive once. Coming from flat Jersey, I was terrified! The car kept going way =19.5pxtoo fast! I never went back.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

THANK YOU for the well wishes, I am starting to feel a little better, still a ways to go LOL

At least I have no headache now. The meds leave the worst taste in your mouth, I need to keep sucking cough drops to mask the taste LOL

This has been the worst one yet, AND the worst timing, had a specialist appointment on Wednesday and camp on now, so I am missing everyone, I couldn't drive there even if I wanted LOL no energy.

SANDRA making a list is a great idea, I always do that when we go away (or for camp LOL ) the Mr has a list for packing on the computer, silly man, he forgets it every time. I think I ought to do a list for the house, I see ones all the time where people use it to clean the house on certain days.

DEVONNE that is all I have done last few days, scroll through news on my phone watch - and doze - through DVDs and shows on Britbox LOL I have been non stop resting, time to try to do something.

CHERYL yum potato salad sounds wonderful I have no appetite right now, but that sounds delish!

BJ hope the injection goes well, you have fantastic daughters, you don't need to worry about anything.

HOLLY we will need big shop when i get out of here, I luckily had chicken soup made, so that has kept me going, that and Vegemite toast or crackers. LOL You guys would HATE Vegemite !!

THERESA sounds like you had a great trip home, going to the parks would have been wonderful!! What mystery quilt?? I forget if you told us!

CAROL your garden is fantastic, my poor roses are ready almost to prune, it's been cold here last few days, they have still got leaves, but they look so sad, I love your gorgeous pics

JANET that is hot already WOW I am not looking forward to summer if that is what we are getting!!

INDY funny about the bugs!! Boys will be boys, guess it was a good party trick for him!! I love the sound of the cicadas, not long ago there was as single one right by the laundry in a tree, I could see him/her. It was so weird to heard just the sound of one, they sound so different when they all sing together. I think we had our noisiest year yet for them they have loved the rainy weather this summer, and come out more.

My lunch just got delivered!! The Mr haas been trying to be helpful LOL

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

Welcome back, Theresa!

This meatloaf was the worse one I've ever fixed. My Mom always used the old recipe from the Quaker Oat box, which is what I have always used. I always use ground chuck, but got regular ground beef this time. It was so greasy. I never had any oats so used saltine crackers instead. I put them in a Magic Bullet and they turned into like flour, lol. I ended up throwing the meatloaf in the trash. I'll try again next week.

Holly, you can have meatloaf sandwiches on any kind of bread, I have used loaf bread and hamburger buns. Yes, you do warm it up.

Greg and Carter are coming so I need to hop in the shower.

Re: ODT SUNDAY MAY 19 ~ SAT MAY 25

THERESA.......YOUR WORLD SURE GOES ROUND AND ROUND.  YOU ARE THE BUSIEST PERSON I KNOW.  ITS GOOD YOU WERE THERE TO GET WHAT NEEDED TO BE BOUGHT.  YOU DELIVER.
IT MUST BE NICE TO BE HOME AGAIN, EVEN WITH THE MONEY/TAXES ISSUES.

TRISH......GLAD TO HEAR YOU ARE ON THE MEND.  SORRY YOU MISSED A FEW THINGS YOU WERE LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING.  THAT'S A SHAME.  DON'T WORRY, YOU'LL BE IN HIGH GEAR AGAIN BEFORE YOU KNOW IT.

SAN.......ITS GOOD TO SEE YOU.  YOU SEEM TO KEEP BUSY WITH YOUR FAMILY.  ITS GOOD THEY ARE LOOKING AFTER YOU.

DEVONNE......I AM SORRY YOU WERE NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR MEATLOAF.  I NEVER MADE MINE WITH OATS, JUST BREAD CRUMBS.  A LITTLE WHITE BREAD AND SOMETIMES A BIT OF THE PACKAGED ITALIAN CRUMBS ADDED AS WELL.  FOR ME, I WAS HAPPY WITH MINE LAST NITE.  ALSO THE POTATOES AND CARROTS WHICH COOKED ALONG WITH IT.  I MADE MINE IN A CASSEROLE PAN, JUST SHAPING IT AS AN OVAL.

IT CAME OUT JUST FINE.  AND I HAVE LEFTOVERS WHICH I LOVE.  MEATLOAF SANDWICHES COMING UP FOR LUNCH.

ANOTHER WARM DAY HERE BUT IT SHOULD BE DROPPING IN TEMPS AFTER TODAY.  STILL, NO FROST IN SIGHT SO A VERY WARM SPRING FOR US.
MY DAILY CHORE SCHEDULE IS WORKING OUT JUST FINE.  ITS NOT MUCH ON MY DAILY LIST BUT I CAN ADD A THING OR TWO IF I FEEL LIKE IT, SUCH AS VACUUMING AND LAUNDRY (WHICH IS DONE WHEN IT NEEDED AND NOT ON A SCHEDULE) OR POLISHING A TABLE OR SOMETHING.  THIS WAY THE HOUSE STAYS LOOKING DECENTLY CLEAN.
NOT MUCH ELSE HAPPENING HERE.  I LEAD A RATHER DULL LIFE.  MY EAR AMPLIFIER IS ON ITS WAY SO I WON'T MISS NEXT WEEK'S BINGO.  THEY TELL ME I WAS MISSED.
HAVE A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

I guess you can’t really call my meat loaf “meat” loaf as I use ground Turkey. 😵‍💫
