Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

Still fluffing snow here.  We have about 11 inches, no ice or rain.  Supposed to have wind chill of negative 25 tomorrow morning so schools have been calling off early.  Kids were off today too.  Dean went to get Amelia from their house ( about 20 minutes from us) because she wanted to play in the snow and all of the "snow clothes" are here.  They don't go out in the city, but do here in our yard.  He brought Bosco with him and I hear the dog barking now.  He does not like Dean to knock the kids down or vice versa.  He thinks they are fighting.  lol.

Continued prayers for BJ and all my friends here.

Trish, it is so cold here I cannot imagine being too hot in January!

I actually felt like taking a shower this morning. Too many days of just sponging off.  It sure felt wonderful to wash my hair and body.  When we had the walk in shower put in several years ago the man advised us to put in safety bars.  I thank him now.   I was able to stand on one for and rest my heel and hold on.

Take care all.

Trish, I just learned about Fairy Bread today.  Is that something you have or made for your kids?

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

Holly- me too.
I spoke too soon. We lost power at 6:00 pm.  It came back on at 9:30. Not too bad.  They said it involved a tree and affected 400 customers.
Schools are closed all week. Most businesses plan to open Thursday.  Unless it warms up, we will be captive here for at least a week!

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

MALAPROPS.......
1.  THE CORPORATION HAS SET UP RULES FOR THE EMPLOYEES, AND WE EXPECT YOU TO LIVE UP TO THEM SACRILEGIOUSLY.
2.  THAT NEEDS SOME THINKNG ABOUT.  LET ME GO AWAY AND REGURGITATE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS.

STORM HAS PASSED. THANKFULLY NO POWER OUTAGES AROUND HERE.  TODAY IS SUNNY BUT COLD.  DAYS IN THE TEENS AND NITES NEAR A ZERO RIGHT NOW.

CHERYL......GOOD TO KNOW YOU ARE BOUNCING BACK AND DOING THINGS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD.  A SHOWER ALWAYS SEEMS TO IMPROVE ONE'S MORNING.  KEEP GETTING BETTER.

BJ.....WISHING YOU IMPROVED HEALTH AS YOU COME HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL.  HUGS AND MORE HUGS.

LINDA.......I HOPE YOU ARE ABLE TO WARM UP A BIT TODAY.  I KNOW THE SOUTH IS NOT AS PREPARED AS THE NORTH WHEN IT GETS BELOW FREEZING.

AS FOR ME, MY THERMOSTAT WAS SET AT 73 AND THE HEAT FINALLY CAME ON MONDAY.  I COULD SMELL THE DUST BEING VAPORIZED ON THE HEATING ELEMENTS AFTER NO USE FOR A YEAR.  NO SMELL NOW THAT ITS BEEN ON A WHILE.

WE DID NOT LOSE OUR POWER FOR WHICH I WAS THANKFUL.  I STARTED ANOTHER JIGSAW PUZZLE IN THE COMMON ROOM YESTERDAY AND THEN SPENT A FEW HOURS IN A COMFY ROCKER READING A MYSTERY.  WATCHED A BLACK WOOD DUCK FLOATING ON THE RESERVOIR.  THE SNOW LOOKED SO PRETTY IN THE TREES.

I FOUND A RECIPE ON YOUTUBE FOR COWBOY CASSEROLE THAT I THINK WILL WORK OUT WELL FOR ME.  GROUND BEEF, BELL PEPPER, ONION, TATER TOTS, CORN, BEANS, SOUR CREAM, CREAM SOUP AND CHEESE.  IT SOUNDS AND LOOKS LIKE A WINNER.  I HAVE THE GROUND BEEF DEFROSTING RIGHT NOW.  MAYBE I WILL MAKE I THURSDAY.  I HAVE HOT DOGS TO USE UP THIS WEEK.  I FINISHED MY POTATO PANCAKES AND REALLY ENJOYED THEM.  THEY ARE A FAVORITE OF MINE.
I ORDERED A FEW MORE BOOKS FROM THRIFTBOOKS, MOST OF THEM RITA MAE BROWN MYSTERIES WITH A CORGI DOG AND 2 CATS HELPING THEIR OWNER SOLVE CRIMES.  I LOVE THAT SERIES.   THERE ARE STILL 3 MORE BOOKS IN THE MAIL I SHOULD GET THIS WEEK OF THE JUDY McCOY SERIES.    I AM A HAPPY READER.

WISHING YOU ALL A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

it was 9 when I got up, now it’s 22! The sun is shining and the sky is blue.

I got the binding strips picked, sewn together, and sewn down on the back of the tree skirt, trimmed the points. Tomorrow I will flip it over and sew down on the front. I restarted Sally Snake last night.

We haven’t been out onthe roads since the snow. We’re meeting friends for lunch tomorrow at Amy’s Omelette House.

Dinner will be leftovers.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

I’ll not be going to David’s this weekend for two reasons. First, they had so much ice that it won’t all be gone by then. Second, he is in the hospital with something rare.  It is a specific type of flesh eating disease. He first noticed a problem on Friday, it was a bit worse Saturday but still not alarming. On Sunday, he was going to go to ER but couldn’t get out of his driveway.  Monday morning, he called a friend with a large 4WD vehicle to take him. By noon he was receiving several high powered IV antibiotics. By late afternoon he was in surgery to remove the necrotized flesh.   Recovery will take a few weeks but if he hadn’t got treatment as soon as he did, it could have been fatal.  He will be in hospital a few more days so they can monitor things and continue IV antibiotics.  Very scary!  His wife is stranded in Kentucky (they live in Mississippi near Memphis) where she was visiting their daughter. Their other daughter is with David for now but needs to get back home with her kids so her husband can go to work. Her father-in-law has a truck that will navigate slick roads and will drive her.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

Oh my goodness, Mary Lou.  What a terrible ordeal for David to go through, and alone in an ice storm.  I will be praying for him, and his family and for you as you have to deal with this in your own way.

Carol, are you back substitute teaching, again?  If you told us that, I missed it.  The not wearing a coat or jacket by the kids is something I only found out about rather recently from my friend, Bobbie, who has two  motherless older grandchildren in school that she helps out with every day.  That floored me.  Her, too, as she's the coldest person I've ever known.  And here sits poor Howard in his chair  with his hands in a muff made with cammoflage fabric, he acquired  to wear when he was out hunting. Was my suggestion.
His hands are always cold so why not--he wears a hat to keep his bald head warm...

So glad to hear that BJ is rallying a bit and able to go home.  Maybe she'll be back every morning with us, soon,  Prayers and hugs for her and them.

I'm running out of groceries, again, so we'll need to go to the store tomorrow, probably.  It's not warming up here much until next week.  ML was out and about this morning and commented on how terribly cold it is. This is what we usually get in February, so it'll be a long winter.

I have some smoked sausage and potatoes in the crockpot for supper.   Nothing for dessert.  Considering looking back at last week's posts at Trish's cobbler recipe, and Theresa's 2nding of it, using frozen fruit.  I think it's the same one I used to make--might have even put it on our recipe thread here a few years ago.

Rambling  so will close this and carry on.  Special hugs for Mary Lou and blessings for you all.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

Mary Lou, what a terrible ordeal for David.  Prayers for a swift and complete recovery.

Still cold with wind chill negative 25, but the sky was blue for a while today and the trees looked so pretty with the  snow.  Schools are closed tomorrow too.

I cut a few strips from my scrap fabrics today just to have something to do.  I cannot sew because it is my right foot and  I use that foot on my foot pedal.  Not sure if I could get used to the left one.  Maybe I can try next week.   Two inch strips always come in useful for some project.

Dean went to the grocery store today and got a few essential items.  He is not a shopper and sent me pictures of a couple items.  Too funny.  I am going to try to go next week when we reach 32 degrees and get a big order.  I have never ordered online and am not sure how to do it.  I should google that.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

Holly and Janet, replied to your PM's.

Marylou, what a terrible thing to happen, but so glad he got someone to get him to the hospital. Sending prayers for David.

What good news BJ is headed home.

Cheryl, a shower makes you feel so much better. You must be feeling better to want to go to a grocery store, lol.

No jury duty. Just sign the form, check the over 70 box and email it. She emailed me back in 5 minutes that I'm excused.

I got a recall for organic Chia seeds from Amazon I bought in September. Thankfully, I never ate too many of them.

I was looking at the Factor meal plans on my laptop. I got a text my order would be here today. I placed it without my knowledge. They get your payment info before you place an order. That's pretty tricky, huh? You should be allowed to browse their menus first. I'll cancel the next order.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

I saw your PM, Holly, and replied to it.

Judy, NO, NO more subbing.  It's the kids who come on the field trips to the ballpark who don't wear jackets.  They all had them today; one parent did not.  Sigh..............

Cheryl, glad you got a shower and feel better.  Cutting strips is always a great idea.

Janet, how is the cut finger?  I did that once.  I find that if I'm not feeling 100% for any reason, everything else goes wrong.  It's my body telling me that I should step back and pay attention.  Do I?  Ha!

MaryLou, I'm so sorry about David.  Thank goodness for wonderful family and friends who can help out during such a stressful time.

Devonne, that sounds like a terrible website.  I would report that one.

We're warming up, but another hard freeze is coming this weekend.  In early January, we were in the 80's every day.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

Mary Lou, how awful! I’m glad he got treatment in time. Do they have any idea how he acquired it?

Cheryl, I’ve only recently ordered groceries online, from Walmart. You can get a 30 day free trial. I did that, and just signed up for a year. I haven’t bought any meat from them, I get that at the Amish Market.

Tracy posted a pic of her and BJ in the car headed home. Hopefully BJ will feel up to posting soon.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

Oh no MARYLOU that is not good, is there a reason, did he have a wound? That is awful to treat, I do hope he is OK, and I'm sorry you will miss your visit, hopefully soon you will reschedule. Prayers for all of you (((hugs)))

PATTY yes!!! It was a staple for kids birthdays here in Oz, made it made times for the kids and their friends! white bread, butter and sprinkles (100s & 1000s) the little round ones, Think you might know them as
nonpareils? And the bread had to be cut into triangles LOL

HOLLY I came to say I had seen the post from Tracy too, thank you, I removed the post last week - sorry you are redoing the snake, I have to redo a couple of my blocks, but I'll wait, still have to finish. I do all of my big shots online now, and pick them up.

SANDRA wow, your appt must be really warm, nice to have that in the winter, but heat will be good in the coming months, you still have a long cold spell ahead, much like our heat!! I liked some books by Krista Davis, about a dog/s and cat/s and an inn where they all stay, and murders happen. Just very light, easy to read, they call them something - cosy reading?? I think that's it.

CHERYL so good you can have a shower and wash your hair, that is the worst when you have something wrong, I remember after the surgery, all I wanted was a long hot shower and wash my hair LOL Usually for ordering the stores have either a web site or an app, ours is really easy, and I can add to it all week, then schedule a pick up when I want. Plus there is a spot when you order to leave a note for your shopper for with substitutes or  notes like "green bananas please "sub pork mince for turkeyi" any kind of note you want.

INDY our dinner is easier than yours, a big crustless quiche and salads, going to be hot - again - and I want to use up some eggs. So it's  ham, spring onion and cheese quiche! I love that he can sit with his hands getting warm do you have hand warmers?

JANET & LINDA hope you both are ok and stay with the power on, be safe, don't try to get out too soon (((hugs)))

I just made a batch of Crack LOL Taking some to the girls on Friday, we re back at sewing, and I'll drop some over to the boys as well, I'll keep some, the Mr has been eyeing it off LOL

Back to prepping some blocks, I need to make some freezer paper templates for Drunkards Path

(((hugs))) and prayers

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

Carol- my finger has improved, I think? At least it has stopped bleeding. And you’re right…when one thing goes wrong everything else seems to as well.
I had two dr appointments for this afternoon and will have to reschedule. There is no way we can get out of here, and if we did we’d never get back up the driveway. I didn’t want to go anyway. They are talking about more snow (on the top of the ice) this weekend. See you in the Spring, lol. Actually that’s not funny.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

STUDENTS GET IT WRONG......
1.  THE GORGONS HAD LONG SNAKES IN THEIR HAIR.  THEY LOOKED LIKE WOMEN, ONLY MORE HORRIBLE.
2.  ZWINGLI'S FOLLOWERS ALL SMASHED THEIR ORGANS.

ITS SUNNY AND BRITE BUT COLD.  NICE THE SNOW HAS DEPARTED.  NOW THE PLOWS AND DUMP TRUCKS CAN DO THEIR CLEARING JOBS.

BJ......I HOPE YOU ARE HOME AND DOING A BIT BETTER.  I KNOW ITS A STRUGGLE THESE DAYS.  HANG IN THERE.  HUGS.

MARYLOU.......WOW, THAT WAS A CLOSE CALL FOR DAVID.  ITS LUCKY HE GOT TO THE HOSPITAL AND HAD SURGERY WHEN HE DID.  I HOPE HE HEALS UP QUICKLY.

CHERYL.....NICE THAT YOU ARE RECUPERATING OKAY.  HUGS.

TRISH......YES, COZY MYSTERIES ARE THE ONES THAT DO NOT HAVE ALL THE HORRID STUFF LIKE BL-OD AND GORE.  THEY ARE THE ONLY KIND I READ.  TRUE CRIME WOULD MAKE ME TOO SAD AND I DON'T NEED ANYTHING REALLY SAD IN MY OLD AGE.  I LIKE UPBEAT STORIES OR FUN THINGS.  I EVEN SKIP SOME OF THE ANIMAL MOVIES BECAUSE THEY HAVE SAD SCENES IN THEM.  NOPE, NOT FOR ME.

TODAY I GOT IN MY LAPS EARLY, EVEN BEFORE MY SHOWER.  I STEPPED ON THE SCALE AND GAINED A POUND.  I REALLY THOUGHT I WOULD BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN CHEATING TOO MUCH.  ALL THOSE WALNUT AND CASHEW CLUSTERS I'VE BEEN MAKING.  I TOLD MYSELF TO STOP THOSE.  I HAVE CUT BACK ON MY CHIPS AT NITE AS WELL.  TODAY ITS A SMALL STEAK SUB FOR ONE MEAL AND JUST SALAD FOR THE OTHER.  IF I MAKE MYSELF MORE SALADS I DO BETTER ON THE SCALE.

CHORES ARE THE SAME OLD, SAME OLD SO NOTHING NEW TO REPORT THERE.  BINGO TONITE, THO, MAY NOT HAPPEN.  THERE ARE TOO MANY WITH COLDS AND I DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO SHOW UP NOR WOULD I IF THEY CAME.  I DO NOT WANT TO CATCH IT.  THESE COLDS SEEM TO LINGER ON FOREVER.  I THINK TONITE WILL BE A  PASS ON BINGO FOR ME.

WISHING YOU ALL A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

=26pxTemperature range today, 9-20! The sun was out, so there is some melting. We went out to meet friends for lunch, and the main roads are clear.

Yay, I finished Steph’s tree skirt! She’ll be able to take it home with her next visit. I’m happy with how it turned out.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

David is recovering well. The doctor said he should be discharged tomorrow. Hopefully the streets will be passable so Jessica or Zach can get him home. Melanie still can’t get home but David says he will be OK by himself. I don’t think they know what caused this horrible infection. Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers for him.

A friend from church plowed my driveway today so I plan to keep my dental appointment tomorrow. Main roads are fine. Schools are probably going to be closed another day or two. It takes a long time for a foot of snow to get cleaned off of miles and miles of country roads, especially when it is windy and the dry snow keeps blowing around.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

Mary Lou, good news about David.  Hope Melanie can get home soon.

We made a run to town, today.  With no RXs to pick up, I thought we could skip W-M, but Howard thought he needed something from there.  Then we went to the grocery on the opposite side of town.  The side roads were plowed although somewhat snowy but were very passable.  Still so cold, single digits, though.  And until the weekend.  This was the kind of winter weather we always used to have before they came up with El Nino and global warming, etc...back in the good old days!  (that was supposed to be a joke!)

Yes, Trish, we have hand warmers.  Just got some this fall.  But, I seldom have cold hands and didn't think of them and apparently neither did Howard.  Besides, a grown man sitting around with a muff is pretty funny...to me...  We need all the levity we can find around here!

Carol, of course, that makes more sense.  Living thru a Northern winter, it isn't in my mind that people in other parts of the country might be having outdoor field trips.

Glad to hear that BJ is home.   I'm sure she is thrilled...and Frank.  Hope we hear from her soon.

We got some store fried chicken for supper and, lately, we eat it as soon as we get home, each re-warming it (him) or not (me) ourself and adding whatever else might be around to eat.
Today, he said, I thought we were going to eat?  I said, I already am, help yourself!  Even tho we sit side by side with a side table between, we can't see each other because I hang a couple of hand towels over our reading lamps as the glare from each lamp bothers the other one.
So, with that utterly useless information, I'm going to close this.  Have a good evening and sweet dreams.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY JAN 25 ~ SAT JAN 31

We’re still iced in…with more snow on the way. Main roads are passable, secondaries are not and my driveway? Don’t ask. No melting at all. Temps in the 25 day and single digits at night through the middle of next week. 😱did I ever mention I hate snow, ice and cold.
