Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

TWO-HEADED HEADLINES.....
1.  KISSINGER ALLEGEDLY FORGES MIDEAST PACT.
2.  GENETIC ENGINEERING SPLITS SCIENTISTS.

RAIN, RAIN, RAIN.  I LOVE IT.  WE SURE NEED IT THO ITS TOO LATE FOR LOVELY AUTUMN LEAVES THIS YEAR.

HOLLY.....I NEVER GOT THAT BREAKFAST FOOD FOR LUNCH.  I STILL HAD LEFTOVERS I NEEDED TO FINISH.  MAYBE TODAY.

DEVONNE.....THE BIRD PAINTING IS ADORABLE.  I LIKE IT.

JUDY.....MY LAST ORDER FOR FARMER'S CHEESE WAS IN JULY.  SOMEHOW I THOUGHT IT WAS LONGER AGO.  ANYWAY, IT SHOULD BE ON ITS WAY.

LINDA......NICE TO SEE YOU POSTING WHEN YOU CAN.

MY TARGET ORDER GOT HERE BUT I HAVE STILL NOT SET UP MY IRON FOR MY LITTLE PRESSING CORNER.  I PUT A NIGHTLITE IN ONE OF THE OUTLETS SO THAT I CAN EASILY TELL IF THE CURRENT IS ON OR OFF BY WHETHER THE LIGHT IS ON OR OFF. THERE IS A BUTTON TO CONTROL THE CURRENT, BUT I NEED THESE LITTLE THINGS TO KEEP ME ON THE RIGHT TRACK.

BINGO NITE TONITE SO NO COOKING FOR ME.  NOTHING BIG ANYWAY.  I MADE THE APPLE CAKE LAST NITE AND HAD 3 VOLUNTEERS WHO ENJOYED IT WITH THE VANILLA ICE CREAM ON TOP.  I ONLY MADE AN 8 BY 8 SIZE SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TOO MUCH AS LEFTOVERS WHICH I HAVE TO EAT.
I LOST ANOTHER 2 LBS SO DO NOT WANT TO GAIN IT RIGHT BACK BY INDULGING.
TOMORROW NITE I PLAN THE SAUCY BEEF NOODLE CASSY AND THERE ARE 3 ALREADY ON MY LIST TO SHARE.  THEY HAVE HAD IT BEFORE AND ENJOY IT.
I THINK I WILL DO SOME READING TODAYS, AND THEN AT 2 IS A MIDSOMER MURDERS I WANT TO WATCH, "BEYOND THE GRAVE."  THAT RUNS ON OVATION CHANNEL FROM 2 TO 4:30 SO JUST IN TIME TO GO TO BINGO WHEN ITS OVER.
HAVE A GOOD DAY MY FRIENDS.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

I just took another condensed milk cake out of the oven. I added two tbls. sour cream this time. While it's moist without it, it seemed to dry out in 3 days. Of course, it shouldn't be around after 3 days, lol.  Taking it to the grandkids when it cools down.

I trimmed some bushes last night. It's so fast with the Skil hedge trimmer I bought. We always had Skil products that lasted forever. I found a 3rd armadillo hole. They are all at the back of the fence where they can hide under the bushes. While pretty, might not have been a great idea to plant these bushes. Honestly, I needed to plant the dwarf which I wouldn't have needed to trim!

Judy, I won't buy another one from Etsy. I need to learn how to transfer images to canvas boards that will be free. It was $42 (including tax), so rather expensive for a small picture.

I still have the free Starbucks coffee that Walmart left me over a month ago. I ordered an electric percolator with the glass brew top that also has a warmer. I had one of those many, many years ago. Always loved to watch it perk. I got the 4 cup one, as I don't drink coffee all day long.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

Devonne, I didn’t realize you had armadillos in GA!

Our new dryer is here and installed, and they took the old one.

It’s chilly and rainy here also. The weather guy said we may get a nor’easter over the weekend, yikes!

After the delivery we went to Applebee’s for lunch, brought over half home. Portions are so big everywhere!

Stockton University, where my grandchildren go, is having an Osprey Ball tomorrow night. Osprey is Stockton’s mascot. It’s on campus, and tickets were only $15. Eddie and his new girlfriend, and Jules and a bunch of her friends are getting dressed up and going.

It’s getting to be nap time!

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

Holly, I agree with the portion sizes.  They are always too big.  Cookies are bigger than my hand, I think.  I just made some chocolate chip cookies and the recipe said it would make 12.  I made 4 with my large scoop.  Sure enough, way too big; so I make the rest of the batch with my medium scoop.  They big and soft and delicious.  I had doubled the batch because it said it would make 12, so now we have 40 cookies.  I will send most of them home with the grandkids when we take them home today.

Devonne, your hydrangeas and pretty.  One of mine only got 2 blooms this year and the other one got zero.  I read about the cause and it seems the drought must have been the cause.  Last year we had lots of rain and they were loaded.  I have been covering the hydrangea in the front of my house with a sheet at night and it seems to be keeping the deer away.  The plant on the side of my house is already eaten with only stalks left.  Hopefully it will come back next year.

Oh Carol, that was a funny/cute conversation with hubby.

It rained all day yesterday but is cool and sunny and pretty today.  We did not get out for our walk, but that is ok.

I had a full glaucoma  exam yesterday morning.  I had never had one before and it was hours before my eyes were  normal from the dilation drops.  Just one minor area of the optic nerve had a questionable thinning and he said we would just monitor it.

I used to do paint by number kits way back in the 70's and 80's.  I had a large picture of an eagle that I had framed and placed on my living room wall for years.  Have not thought of doing that for a long time.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

Holly, be glad you saw the Houston show when you did.  It's never bounced back from COVID.  Far fewer vendors, and what they're offering isn't nearly as good as it used to be.  The quilting and sewing machine people are out in force.  Fabric, patterns, tools, etc. not so much.  Fewer attendees too.

Please, Sandra, send the rain this way.  We're desperate.  I resorted to watering the grass last week and this.  I almost never water it, and certainly not in October.  Yikes!  We had a wet summer, so I guess we're paying the price now.

I need to go do something constructive.  Like really constructive.  Sewing something together would be a good start.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

How frustrating!    My 3rd try to post here.  I will slow down and maybe...
Have nicely caught up with you all.  It's been a busy week already for us old homebodies.
Yesterday, Howard had lunch with Dave and ML and I picked up an old friend for lunch out.
She's another Judy and has a slew of health issues but is cheerful and trusting that they'll get better.  So we had a nice catch-up visit.
A bit of trivia:  When Mom was widowed and looking to move up here, I called a number in the newspaper advertising an apt. for rent.  I recognized Judy's voice when she answered and Mom became their tenant until they sold their small 4-unit bldg.   She then moved to an apt. in a brand new complex until she needed to go to the Pines assisted living.  At that time Judy and her hubby were able to rent Mom's apt. and were thrilled knowing how neat and clean she always was.  They still live there 12 years later.  They always called Mom, Grandma Betty.

Carol, Glen knows you well!  He's been well-trained.
From what you said about Houston, I wonder if the Chicago Quilt Show has diminished, too?  I was privileged to go to it two or three times with my friend, Donna. We saw incredible quilts but couldn't wait to get to the vendors.   Once Marilynn met us there and we had lunch together and walked around together for awhile.  It was fantastic for this country mouse.  I bought my two best thimbles there and met Alex Anderson at the booth she was "working" at.

Fall has fallen, here.  Was in the 40s when we got up, and I'm sitting by the little heater in the sunroom.
But it's sunny and beautiful.  Everything's still appears fully green, but lots of fallen leaves in our front yard from the cottonwood tree.  However, it's a trash tree and drops leaves all summer long.

Holly, congrats on the good deal you got on your dryer!

Well, time to get busy.  Glad to be home today.  Howard wants to go to the outlet mall nearby in Mich. City but we'll wait until tomorrow.  There's a Skecher's  (sp?) store there and he needs a new pr.

Have a good Wednesday.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

Carol, I’m so sorry to hear that! The quilt show was magical the times I went.

I’m listening to Taylor’s new album and sorting fabric strips into colors. So many bins of leftover strips! Some I look at and have no memory of what I made! Others bring back memories.

Brrr, it was in the 40’s last night! I got up this morning and closed windows- it was 60 in here! The high today is 63 and sunny.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

Trish, I wish I remembered everything you posted about sourdough starter, as I am going to try this. I need to buy a few accessories first, like a dutch oven. I got a Lodge enameled one, but it won't be here until 10/24. Do you use whole wheat flour unbleached? It's going to be quite the experience of knowing what to do each day.

Carol, that is sad, the show will never be the same again. I guess it has happened to all the quilt shows across the US.

Holly, I never saw armadillos at our other house. I haven't seen them here either, but these are armadillo holes. Gary has them at his place. A friend told me they carry the disease Leprosy! We used to never have coyotes either, but they are everywhere here.

Judy, I enjoyed the story about Judy and your mom. Very touching. Glad you got to have lunch with her and get caught up on her life.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

MALAPROPS......
1.  I SAW ALL THOSE OLD TESTAMENT HOUSES.
2.  THE FIRST THING THEY DO WHEN A BABY IS BORN IS TO CUT IT'S BIBLICAL CORD.

BRRRRR IT GOT COLD LAST NITE HITTING 30 DEGREES.  WARMER NOW WITH SUNSHINE IN THE 50S.  I THINK OUR VEGGIE GARDENS HERE ARE DONE.

I'M LATE TODAY DEAR FRIENDS.  WENT TO CRAFTS AND THEN IT WAS LUNCH TIME.
AT CRAFTS WE DID SOME POTLUCK DINNER PLANNINGS.  I KNOW THERE WILL BE COTTAGE/SHEPHERD'S PIE, TUNA CASSEROLE, AND CHICKEN CURRY.  ANOTHER IS BRINGING SOME DESSERT.  I THINK I WILL MAKE A LARGE CASSEROLE DISH OF ROASTED ITALIAN GARLIC POTATOES UNLESS WE NEED ANOTHER MAIN DISH THEN I WILL FIGURE OUT A CASSEROLE TO BRING OR MAYBE JUST A POT OF MEATBALLS.  THE LIST GOES ON THE BULLETIN BOARD BY THE MAILBOXES THIS AFTERNOON.  ITS ON FRIDAY OCT 24TH AT 5.  WE DON'T WANT THOSE WHO CAN'T COOK, OR AFFORD OR AFFORD TO COOK FOR A LARGE GROUP, OR ARE NOT FEELING WELL TO BE LEFT OUT SO ITS A  "COME ONE, COME ALL AND ENJOY"  WE DON'T WANT TO BRING HOME ANY LEFTOVERS.  AFTER ALL, THERE ARE ONLY 24 OF US IN THE BLDG SO WE CAN AFFORD TO SHARE WITH THOSE LESS ABLE AT THE TIME.
I DID VERY WELL AT BINGO LAST NITE, BRINGING HOME A 10.50 PROFIT.  ITS THE MOST FOR MY WINNINGS I THINK.
THEY ARE TAKING OUT THE A/C UNITS TODAY AND THE 16TH AND
THE 23RD BUT I CAUGHT OUR GUY TIM IN THE HALLWAY AND ASKED IF HE HAD TO TAKE MINE OUT TODAY.  HE SAID ONLY IF I WANT IT OUT.  SO I ASKED TO KEEP IT UNTIL THE LAST THURSDAY ON THE REMOVAL LIST, THE 23RD. HE PUT MY NAME OF THE LIST FOR THAT DATE.  I AM HAPPY TO STILL HAVE MY A/C FOR NOW. ITS ACTUALLY FUNNING RIGHT NOW.
MY FARMER'S CHEESE ARRIVED BEFORE BINGO LAST NITE SO I HAD A BIT WITH SUPPER.  MMMM GOOD.  I HAVE ENOUGH TO LAST ME A FEW WEEKS.
MY LITTLE PRESSING CORNER IS ALL SET UP BEHIND MY SEWING MACHINE SO I CAN PRESS THE LITTLE THINGS AS I NEED THEM.  I THINK IT WILL WORK OUT FINE.  I LIKE HAVING THE LITTLE NITE LITE IN ONE OF THE OUTLETS SO WHEN ITS ON I KNOW THE CURRENT IS COURSING THRU TO MY IRON.  YUP, I AM PLEASED.
I HAVEN'T BEEN TO A QUILT SHOW NOW FOR YEARS.  KATHLEEN, WHO I MET ON THE HGTV BOARD YEARS AGO, AND I WOULD TAKE IN THE MAINE SHOWS EVERY SEASON .  I REALLY ENJOYED IT AND LOVED SEEING NEW TECHNIQUES AND BUYING TEMPLATES TO MAKE CUTTING EASIER.  ALL IN THE PAST NOW FOR BOTH OF US.

CAROL.....I WOULD HAVE SENT YOU SOME RAIN YESTERDAY IF I COULD.  I THINK WE USED UP OUR FULL SUPPLY FOR OURSELVES.  WE NEEDED IT.

THAT'S IT MY FRIENDS.  STAY SAFE.  I AM GOING TO READ FOR AWHILE AND THEN MAKE THAT SAUCY BEEF NOODLE CASSEROLE TO USE UP MY GROUND BEEF.  ITS A SURE THING TONITE.
HUGS TO ALL, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

I agree with Carol, quilt shows are not what they once were.  I go to several a year and have seen a decline in vendors.  As they tell us on-line sales have taken over. Also, the fees for booth space has gone up, along with hotels, meals.  It’s just not profitable anymore.  The big machine companies can afford it and they have taken over the shows.    The cost for attendees has gone up as well.  Meals, hotels, traveling cost has become prohibitive for many.  Im lucky to not be attended by that.  Focus has turned to classes, which are expensive.  I never sign up for them as they have to be paid in full, in advance and anything can happen resulting in not being able to attend and no refunds.
IMHO, the local guild and church quikt shows aren’t worth it.  I have reservations for AQS Daytona and Paduch. I stick with large hotel chains which allow you to cancel 38 hrs prior with no penalty.
Holly- all the shows have been affected from what I’ve seen or heard.  It was even easy to get a room for AQS Paducah.
Sandra- funny that your in Maine with you AC on and I’m wearing a hoodie in the house with the hood up, lol.
Time to close the pool. We haven’t used it since before Labor Day.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

Afternoon y'all!

I picked my MIL up from the hospital on Tuesday, she, fortunately, did not have to go to rehab!  She was walking circles around the staff.  She has always struggled to sit still for long!

Today we tried to start the probate process for mom's will.  Of course we filled out the wrong form, too much info in spaces and more.  this afternoon I filled out the form they told me and corrected the mistakes.  Getting ready to email forms to NSDB and my DNiece!  Loads of fun!

I did work on putting my retreat stuff away yesterday!  Major accomplishment for me.  Put my sewing machine up, but dusted it's surface first, really scary!  I had to get a second rag because to the level of dust, guess I nee to dust it more often!  LOL!

Kids are doing good!  Luke is frustrated with the furlough, government shutdown.  Latest is he will not get backpay!  That is stressing him out more than anything.  Only time will tell what will really happen.  We told him to go check out the Natchez Trace parkway, walk around Vicksburg, get to know the town....  He is finally listening, he's bored to tears!

Need to go scan these forms and email them on!

Later my friends!

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

When Kelli and I went to the quilt show in Cleveland a few years ago it was the same; disappointing.  Lots of long arm machines and demos, some fabric but too expensive for me.  I also do not do the classes because of the cost.  Kelli and I took a "cutting class and a beginner class" at our local quilt shop when we first started, maybe 30 years ago.  That was it.

Theresa, it is terrible that Luke has to deal with this shutdown, especially if they do not get back pay.

We made homemade pizza for supper tonight.  It is Dean's favorite.  I like it, but prefer to get pizza from a local pizza joint.

I still have not gotten my machine to the repair shop.  I hope to do that next week.

Sandra, congrats on the bingo win!!

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

Theresa, there is a 2019 law, the Government Employees Fair Treatment Act, that says employees furloughed during a govt shutdown have to get back pay once funding is restored. So Luke should eventually get paid.

Re: ODT SUNDAY OCT 5 ~ SAT OCT 11

ACCIDENTAL BLOOPERS......
1.  MY CAR SUSTAINED NO DAMAGE WHATSOEVER, AND THE OTHER CAR SOMEWHAT LESS.
2.  I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE DOCTOR WITH REAR END TROUBLE WHEN MY UNIVERSAL JOINT GAVE WAY, CAUSING ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT.

WOWSA!  IT HIT 27 LAST NITE BUT IN THE 40S RIGHT NOW.  AND I STILL HAVE MY A/C IN THE WINDOW AND RUNNING.  JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW DARN WARM MY APT IS EVEN WITHOUT HEAT.  I GET HEATED ON ALL SIDES, UP, DOWN AND SIDEWAYS.

LINDA.....SPEAKING OF FORGETTING, WELL I HAD AN EXPERIENCE AT BINGO THIS WEEK.  MY NEIGHBOR SAID THAT 15 WAS CALLED AND I HAD NOT PUT MY STONE ON IT (WE USE COLORED AQUARIUM STONES OR SMALL ROCKS).  THEN I LOOKED AT THE CALLER'S TRAY AND SAW THAT ANOTHER NUMBER HAD BEEN CALLED AND SOMEHOW I MISSED IT.  WHERE THE HECK WAS MY MIND.  AND LASTLY, SHE WAS GETTING READY TO CALL ANOTHER NUMBER WHEN I LOOKED DOWN AT ONE OF MY 2 CARDS AND SAW I ALREADY HAD A 'BINGO.'  WEIRD.  BOTH THE CALLER, A GOOD FRIEND, AND I HAD A LAUGH AND SHE WATCHED ME AFTER THAT AND I WAS JUST FINE.  I MAY HAVE LET MY MIND WANDER A FEW TIMES AND NOT REALIZED IT.  BUT WHY NOT?  STRANGE.

AS MENTIONED BY A FEW OF YOU GALS, I OFFERED THE ROOSTER BLOCK TO SANDI, WITH AN I, (YES, WE NOW HAVE 3 SANDRA'S IN THE BLDG WITH ONLY 24 APTS) PLUS A PILLOW FORM IF SHE WANTED THEM.  SHE WAS PLEASED.  SHE OFFERED TO PAY FOR THEM BUT I TOLD HER LIKE MANY THINGS IN THIS BLDG, WE OFFER AND DO NOT WANT PAYMENT.  WE'RE ALL FRIENDS HERE LOOKING OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER.
THEN ONE OF THE GALS GAVE ME A LOVELY SCARF WITH BUTTERFLIES ALL OVER IT.  I LOVE BUTTERFLIES.  I WAS VERY GRATEFUL.  SEE, WE JUST GIVE AND GIVE HERE.
I MADE THE CASSY LAST NITE AND SHAREDLARGE PORTIONS WITH 3.  I STILL HAVE TOO MUCH LEFTOVERS.  I WILL HAVE TO MAKE THE SMALLER 8 BY 8 OR 9 BY 9 CASSEROLES IN FUTURE.  I JUST DON'T WANT TO HAVE ALL THOSE LEFTOVERS AROUND AND HAVE TO EAT THEM SINCE I REALLY HATE WASTING FOOD.  I LIKE BEING 22 LBS LESS THAN I WAS ON JULY 9TH.  AND I HOPE TO GET EVEN LOWER IN FUTURE.
I WANT TO SEW TODAY AND I HAVE A FEW CHORES ON MY LIST, LIKE VACUUMING AND CLEANING THE BATHROOM.  I ALSO NEED TO TAKE OUT MY TRASH AND THE RECYCLING.  THEN ITS PUZZLE WORK SO I CAN FINISH THE CURRENT PUZZLE AND GET ON TO THE NEXT FALL PUZZLE.  THINGS TO DO TODAY SO HAVE TO GET ON IT.  OH, AND FIRST THERE'S MY LAPS TO DO.
WHILE I TYPE I HAVE A LADYBUG WALKING AROUND THE PERIMETER OF MY COMPUTER.  IT WAS COLD LAST NITE AND I GUESS SHE FOUND REFUGE THRU THE AIR CONDITIONER SOMEHOW.  I WILL LEAVE HER TO HER ADVENTURE.
STAY SAFE MY FRIENDS.  HUGS TO YOU ALL, QB S
