Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Holly, you are a bookworm! My sister, Shelby, is an avid reader. Melena said at one time she had 300 books in her room (nursing home room and they are small, lol). Sometimes I can picture myself in the story as one of the characters.

Marylou, I loved reading about your guests and the dinnerware you used. I hope y'all can get all those quilts finished. What size will they be?

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

I guess I’m more visual….and that’s why I don’t read?  I do have a library card, lol.  I honestly can’t remember the last book I read.  I did check out a Kaffe Fassett book last summer just for one of the patterns.  Does that count?

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

ACCIDENTAL BLOOPERS......
1.  NO ONE WAS ONE WAS TO BLAME FOR THE ACCIDENT, BUT IT NEVER WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE OTHER DRIVER HAD BEEN ALERT.
2.  SHE SUDDENLY SAW ME, LOST HER HEAD, AND WE MET.

SAME OLD THING.  HIT 94 YESTERDAY AND WILL HIT 93 TODAY.  EXPECTING LOWER TEMPS SOON, THANK GOODNESS.

I DON'T PAY ANYTHING AUTOMATICALLY ONLINE AFTER HAVING A TERRIBLE TIME GETTING AN INSURANCE PAYMENT STOPPED.  IT TOOK 9 MONTHS TO STOP IT.  EMAILS AND LETTERS HAD NO EFFECT.  PHONE CALLS FINALLY AFTER SEVERAL TRIES.  IT WAS A TERM POLICY THAT I GOT ROPED INTO AND DECIDED I DID NOT WANT.  ANYWAY, THAT TAUGHT ME SOMETHING.  AND ALSO WITH UTUBE AS WELL.  I SOMEHOW GOT CHARGED FOR SOMETHING I NEVER ORDERED, UNLESS I DID IT BY ACCIDENT.  AND YES, I COLD HAVE HIT A WRONG KEY.  TRY TO FIND WHERE TO STOP THE CHARGES.  NOTHING WORKED.   I HAD TO STOP PAYMENT THRU MY CREDIT CARD WHICH TOOK A FEW MONTHS TO GET THAT STOPPED CHARGING ON MY CREDIT CARD.  NO, NO, NO.  NEVER AGAIN.  I PAY BY CHECK AND TRANSFER MY CREDIT CARD PAYMENT THRU MY CHECKING ACCOUNT.  ITS THE ONLY THING NOT PAID BY CHECK.

MY DR APPT FOR TODAY WAS CANCELLED.  A NO-SHOW AT THE DR'S OFFICE.  I HAD TO CHANGE IT TO THURSDAY WHICH WILL WORK OUT OKAY BUT THIS TIME ITS GRANDDAU G WHO WILL TAKE ME.

THE GOVT INSPECTION IS TODAY. WHETHER MY APT WILL BE CHOSEN OR NOT I CAN'T TELL RIGHT NOW.

I THINK I WILL MAKE EITHER LITHUANIAN BUNDIES OR AN AMISH COUNTRY BEEF CASSEROLE TOMORROW.  I WANT G TO TAKE HOME SOME FOOD WITH HER ALONG WITH SOME FARMER'S CHEESE I SAVED FOR THEM.  I ALSO HAVE SOME NEW LARGE WHITE SPAGHETTI BOWLS TO GIVE THEM SINCE I NEVER USED THEM.  THEY ARE A FAMILY AND THEY WILL WORK FOR THEM.

I HAVE BEEN READING A LOT, MY MRS POLLIFAX SERIES.  I AM ENJOYING THE LAST ONE I HAVE.  I WILL ORDER MORE OF THEM IN LARGE PRINT AS THEY ARE AVAILABLE.
I WILL ALSO WORK MY JIGSAW AGAIN TODAY.
ITS THINGS LIKE THIS THAT KEEP ME BUSY.
HUGS FOR YOU ALL.  QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Good Morning to everyone!!  My left leg is twitching this morning, can't seem to get it to stop.  That and my left arm is doing the same thing.  What a mess that is!!!  If I can get my arm to latch onto the arm of the chair, it is a bit better.  I must get it to stop, so will sign off and work on that.  Have a wonderful day, everyone, BJ.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Another hot day here. I had PT this morning, after a stop to pick up RX’s.

Devonne, I’ve only had the TV on for a few hours over the weekend, I’ve been reading instead. So many good books out there!

Today is SIL Ben’s and grandson Garrett’s birthdays. G is 10 already! They’ll arrive here Thursday evening, we’re so excited to see them. I texted Ben that the Mountain Dew is chilling for him.

I finished another book. Parents Weekend by Alex Finlay. Five families gather for dinner at a small college. But the students never show up. Where are they? It was a quick read, but I liked it a lot.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Afternoon y'all!

We have been enjoying our false fall weather!  It will end by the end of this week.  A/C didn't run for days!  I actually got up one night and found a quilt for my bed, I was that cold!  We slept with the windows open and it was awesome!

Mom is finally off the Haldol!  She is slowly getting it out of her system.  Very slowly.  They are also taking her off the iron, hospice patients are not put on supplements.  The nurse thought she was off it already, but apparently the pharmacy doesn't use faxes for medication orders!  It's a frustrating system.  In all the places she has been this one is totally structured differently!  I also had to correct her DOB on her paperwork.  Not sure how it was so poorly transcribed into their system!  Wrong, month, day and year!

Simba continues to improve with his response to other dogs, still whimpers, he wants to meet them, and play but when he tried to charge at them it scared the other dog and their owner, he does not know his own strength!  He's slowly getting there!  He has also started chewing his paws.  We think it's heat related.  When we had the cool/cold weather they got better.  Since it is warming up he's chewing again!  We have to figure out how to stop it!

Supper is BLT's!  We have had a great summer for tomatoes!

Nothing else exciting!

Later my Friends!

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

SIGNS OF THE TIMES.......
IN A NUMBER OF PARKING AREAS:  VIOLATORS WILL BE ENFORCED AND TRESPASSERS WILL BE VIOLATED.

ITS THE LAST DAY OF HEAT.  TOMORROW WILL BRING T-STORMS.  WE NEED IT.

THERESA.....THANK GOODNESS THEY ARE GETTING MOM'S MEDS STRAIGHTENED OUT.  I HOPE THINGS FINALLY START TO RUN MORE SMOOTHLY FOR HER.

I WILL BE CALLING BINGO TONITE.  WE DO NOT YET HAVE AN ALTERNATE SO I AM THE ALTERNATE FOR A WHILE AT LEAST.  I DON'T MIND.

I PLAN TO MAKE THE AMISH COUNTRY BEEF CASSY TONITE WITH NOODLES.  SOUNDS GOOD AND I CAN SEND A LOT HOME WITH GINA AFTER MY DR VISIT TOMORROW.  ITS ALSO EASIER TO MAKE THAN BUNDIES SINCE I HAVE TO GET TO BINGO PRETTY DARN EARLY.

MY ORDER CAME FROM TARGET YESTERDAY AND ONE THING WAS MISSING.  I EMAILED THEM RIGHT AWAY AND THEY ARE SENDING A REPLACEMENT OF THE ITEM.  THEY ARE VERY GOOD THAT WAY.  PROBS ONLY HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE.  NOT THEIR FAULT BUT FAULT OF SHIPPING SERVICE.  ONCE A SHIPMENT WAS DELIVERED TO A FAMILY UP THE ROAD AND ANOTHER TIME MY DISHES WERE BROKEN WHEN THEY ARRIVED.  THE FAMILY, BY THE WAY, DELIVERED MY BOX TO ME THE NEXT DAY.  SO I GOT 2 SHIPMENTS.  TRIED TO STOP THE REPLACEMENT ORDER BUT WAS TOLD ITS ON ITS WAY AND TO KEEP THE FIRST ORDER.  SO I WAS ABLE TO SHARE THE 2ND BOX OF ITEMS WITH MY FAMILY.

NOTHING ELSE HAPPENING TODAY.  I WILL READ, WORK MY JIGSAW, COOK, READ, WALK LAPS, WATCH TV, DO A BIT OF DUSTING, AND PLAY SOLITAIRE ON MY PUTER.  THE USUAL THINGS.
HUGS FOR YOU ALL.  QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

We went and got haircuts, wanted to beat the school rush. Then across the street to Aldi, now in for the day. It’s hot and humid.

Reading a fluff book. The Best Life Book Club by Sheila Roberts. After her husband leaves her for their neighbor (and former friend!) Karissa and her daughter relocate from Seattle to Gig Harbor. Karissa and her new neighbors decide to start a book club. Each neighbor has her own issues. Nice shallow women’s fiction.

PT tomorrow morning, then Ben, Manda and kids get in mid evening. They plan to stop to get pizza and bring it here. Then Friday they are driving to NYC. Heather and Jules are driving separately and picking up Steph at LaGuardia. They have tickets to see Hamilton Friday night, and Steph had hotel points that they are using to stay over. Saturday they’ll come here. So I got cereal, fruit and bagels for Friday morning, and car snacks for them.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

I'm on my own for a bit!   It was a close call.  Howard's had one misfortune after another with various things including messing up his pills this morning while trying to sort them for the week, and the printer acting up.  There were others yesterday and whatever he was doing while I sorted his pills, he said he might not go to lunch with the Romeos.  Well,  I "talked" him into it, as in "Oh yes you are!"  Reminded him he had errands to run and Don to talk to about taking over our group.  If not for those things, I know he wouldn't have gone.  I don't have quite the push/pull I wish I did, sometimes.

It seems like readers vs. non-readers are each pretty much in their own camp.  My mom was NOT a reader of books.  She devoured the newspaper but you had to force her to read a book, which I admit I did sometimes.  But, then, she couldn't put it down and devoured the book.
I like to be reading something all the time.  Otherwise, I get too wrapped up in daily life and it's problems.  Howard is a reader, but not a discusser of what he's reading or read.  So, I was surprised when I ask him and he was reading some of Ken Follett's book.  He usually reads political thrillers or other male genre books.  I'm not sure you can talk a non-reader into it.  It seems to me  that it has to be an internal drive.  To each his own, I guess.

BJ, hope your twitches go away.  Those kinds of issues can make you crazy.

Mary Lou, I too enjoyed reading about your luncheon and using the vintage china.  If nothing else, it brings back lovely memories of your past life and of your Mom.  I'll bet the quilting ladies really enjoyed it, too.   ML inherited a set of Johnson Bros. Friendly Village china from one elderly family friend and from another, her Fostoria Americana (I think?) glassware, which she uses on occasion.  Andrew, wouldn't you know, enjoys it when she does.  In many ways, both she and he are old souls.  And, what a wonderful gift those quilts will make for that family.

Got my haircut, too, yesterday, Holly.  Finally, am making an appt. for the next time and don't get so bedraggled as I did when I'd either put it off, or couldn't get an appt.  Then, we went to the fresh veggie tent and on to the grocery.  Got fresh corn and tomatoes and catfish nuggets for supper.  They fried it!  Not me!

QB, you do a lot to keep you busy and for others.  Most everbody's life is boring, to them.
More so than the occasional special thing that comes along.  Lately, I've tried to find one thing that makes my day.  And if it's someone, to tell them,  "you made my day".  (I know, it doesn't always or maybe ever sound that way when I'm posting here!  )  Anyway, your life always sounds rather  peaceful and that's a goal I wish I could attain.

Off, to NOT waste my alone time...I know, I say that everytime...
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Good day all!

LOL, Mary Lou; that was funny about Holly!  Sounds like you had a lovely gathering with your quilt guild.

Holly, I am an avid reader, but I think you have me beat!  I also read the Woman in Cabin 20 a long time ago.  Will have to look it up again as I cannot remember it.

I took Amelia and Gabriel to get a couple of outfits for school.  WOW, the prices of clothing is outrageous.  I went to Kohls and they picked out a few things.  I went to use my Kohls credit card and it was declined as it was not "activated".  I used it three times online and did not have a problem.  I activated in online but apparently I had to call a phone number to activate.  ??  It is now through Capital One, so perhaps that was the problem, even though, I have PAID Capital One/Kohls account.  Weird.

It is cooler today but extremely humid.  Dean was trying to change a couple light fixtures in his garage and he came in covered in sweat.

Judy, Dean has the same issue with parts for his 1972 Challenger.  It is difficult to get actual parts.  I told him he has way more money in this thing that he will ever get out of it.  He said he will not ever sell it, that it can be sold after he is dead.  He has worked 3 years on this car.  I think most of the people who like this type of car is dying out.  The young people like those race cars from the Fast and Furious movies.

I need to go get some fresh veggies and salad ingredients.  My last bag of lettuce went bad quickly.  Thank goodness I have a farmers market close by.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

I am home.  I see I missed some more celebrations, so I hope you had fun without me!

My trip was amazing, but I'm exhausted.  I loved being on my own for the most part, but there were a couple of moments when I wished for a companion to help me figure out some things.  Of course, I missed Glen terribly as we had planned to see some of these places together.

Edinburgh was seriously crazy.  The official population is half a million people; in August the festivals swell that to over a million.  It's the third highest revenue producing multi-day event in the world, behind only the Olympics and the World Cup.  Over 50,000 estimated performances in the month.  So, lots and lots of people.  I was certainly safe; there was nowhere for a criminal to run to.

So, now that I'm home, I'm trying to recuperate, sort through the stuff I bought (lots of books, sigh), and work on this Scraps to Treasures quilt that is due on September 1st.  I talked Lisa into hosting the challenge, so I guess I should finish mine.  She will be my roommate in Salt Lake City for the COF retreat; I don't want her mad at me the whole time!

Back later.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Welcome back CAROL yes, agree Edinburgh is really crowded this time of year, but feels safe all the same, the only thing I wasn't really a fan of was the dogs in the cafes, AND it was raining, so they were wet too LOL

I loved it in Scotland, even more in Wales, I do hope you tell us more about what you did and saw.

SANDRA hope you get to see Gina for your appt, and I am so happy you are doing so many things to keep you occupied, makes such a difference when you can keep busy

THERESA so sorry it continues for you - just appalling that the meds have taken so long to sort out, possibly because of the wrong date of birth, also inexcusable ((((hugs)))) Poor Simba,  he just wants to be friends LOL

HOLLY I don't know how you get the time to finish the books so quickly, I'm fast but not that fast! I also think it's how you read, I know my characters in my books, they become real to me, and I really dislike some of the characters in TV series, Outlander is one, turned it off part way through the first episode, Jamie was all wrong!! A few others, Keira Knightly wasn't a good Elizabeth Bennet for me, plenty of others I feel like that about too LOL

INDY so nice that A has such a respect for the old things, Dean is the same, John not so much, but Dean is also the cook of the 2 boys, he likes experimenting.

MARYLOU what a lovely luncheon, it's lovely to use the "good" china, we do here for special occasions, but should do it more, I love the sound of all that!

We have had a stressful couple days. Chloe went in late tuesday, was supposed to be induced, but they had no delivery suite available, OK, so does she wait there or what??
Next morning turns out she was already in labour and almost 1/2 way there when they finally decided to check late in the day, finally got her into a suite in the afternoon (Wednesday) , and Fletcher was born 45 mins later, but she was haemorrhaging and because of the meds she has been on wasn't clotting, also it WAS eclampsia and everything was breaking up. So Lyndon had the baby most of the night while they tended to Chloe, she also told them he was to be bottle fed, she didn't ever get milk first time round and wanted to bottle feed him as well.  A bit of a mess it was for a while, she seems OK tonight, and will leave the hospital tomorrow all being well, I'll take up soup, banana bread and whatever else I can think of on Saturday. Plus books for Miss Bridie - who says the baby can live with Brookie (Brooke is my sis's DIL) he can go there and she (Bridie)  has got some books he can have and then she can stay with mummy and daddy - might be interesting couple days coming up LOL

I made a gluten free orange cake, it has partly stuck in the tin, just looks a bit rough on the bottom edge, it will be OK tasting, I should have done it as cupcakes, but wanted a cake as  it's one of the girls birthdays tomorrow at sewing, drove a few places today to buy one but my favourite place to go has stopped selling them, only chocolate mud cake gluten free available YUK!, they used to do a yum carrot, or an apple/pear. None of us like the choc one.

So I'm almost ready for bed,  just waiting for the cake to be cool enough to put in the plastic container.

I HAVE BEN WATCHING THE FIREFIGHTERS FLUSH THEIR TRUCKS.  THERE ARE 4 TRUCKS LINED UP.  THOSE HOSES ARE BLASTING WATER OVER THE RESERVOIR.  A BUNCH OF YOUNG MEN THERE TOO.  CUTE.
I HEAR WE ARE GETTING AN ALDI IN THE NEXT TOWN THIS FALL.  ITS THE FIRST ONE IN MAINE.  SINCE I DO NOT SHOP I WILL NOT BE GOING THERE BUT OTHER LADIES HERE ARE PLEASED TO HEAR ABOUT IT.

TRISH.....SUCH WONDERFUL NEWS THAT CHLOE FINALLY BORE HER SON FLETCHER AND SHE IS OK AND GOING HOME SOON.  IT WAS A CLOSE THING AT THE FINISH LINE IT SEEMS.  AND DEAR BRIDIE, I HOPE SHE IS OK HAVING A NEW BROTHER.  SOUNDS LIKE SHE WANTS TO REMAIN THE ONLY ROYAL CHILD IN THE CASTLE.

CAROL......IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAD A GREAT TIME EVEN WITH ALL THE EXTRA PEOPLE AROUND.  YOU MUST SHARE SOME OF YOUR VISIT WITH US.  MAYBE SOME PICTURES?

THAT'S IT LADIES.  I HAVE TO MAKE SOME LEMONADE AND CUT THE WATERMELON BEFORE GRDAU GINA GETS HERE.  SHE IS MY CHAUFFEUR TODAY SINCE HER MOM HAD TO WORK.  MY DR'S CANCELLATION LATE ON WED. MORNING (AROUND 10 AM) MESSED UP HER SHEDULE SINCE SHE HAD ALREADY TAKEN THAT DAY OFF.
I'VE ALREADY GOT MORE GROUND BEEF DEFROSTING TO MAKE SOME PIZZA TOMORROW.  OF COURSE, I WILL HAVE TO SHARE SO I DO NOT OVEREAT.  I LOVE MY PIZZA.  ITS EASY TO DO WHEN I MAKE IT.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

The oddest thing happened early this morning. I got up at 4 am for a nature call and when I got back in bed, I saw all these lights flashing above the window. I thought it was lightning, as we have had lightning the last few days but it was inside my room. No clue what it could have been and it didn't last but 10 seconds.

Carol, thank you so much for the pet card. Not a day goes by that I don't think of Molly. I can often "see" her walking around the house. Glad you enjoyed your trip, even though it was crowded. Welcome back home!

Trish, glad the baby is here and Chloe is now home. Congratulations to them! Have you ever made an orange cake using the orange gummies? I've heard it's really good.

Has San/Diana left us for good? She hasn't posted in a very long time.

Theresa, hope everything is straightened out now with your Mom and you can relax a little bit.

Not much going on here. Piddling around the house and getting a few things done. I'm headed to get a late shower & get out of the house for awhile.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Lord, seems like I have to read forever!!  Love it, catching up on all that's going on in your lives.  How wonderful that you all have so much going on.  My life seems pretty quiet, having read all that you all do! It's 62* outside, totally still, not a leaf is stirring!
I'm signing off!! Wishing you all well, have a wonderful day, BJ.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Good Morning.    Howard is upstairs tearing out the hair he doesn't have trying to figure out/fix the printer. There is something wrong every day here with some electronic.  Yesterday, suddenly my laptop said there was no internet.  I gave up until he got home and ended up turning it off and restarting.  Then...there was internet?????

Carol, glad you're home and gladder that you had a wonderful trip.  I so admire you for being such a confident traveler and especially for being brave enough to go alone.  How was the weather and the temperature?  When Bill & ML were in England/Scotland in 2023, it was very chilly and windy in Scotland, in June.

BJ, I agree, lots to read, but I love hearing what everyone is doing, too.  I try to remember that my motto now is:  JOMO, the joy of missing out!     Did a lot in my life, so I'm glad to be home most days.  I'm glad you have your dog for some company (other than Frank.)

'Great Aunt Trish',  congrats to Chloe and hubby and to you, too.  I know you love your nieces.
Fletcher...another interesting name, like Bridie.  I like both.  (Sometimes NOT if they're too far out.)  Yes, Andrew has been a joy to "raise".  Certainly different, and his parents have allowed those differences without trying to change him.  When he was very little,  IF he had to go to the restroom in the night, he would come to their room and wake and tell his mother.   After awhile, Bill told him, "Buddy, don't wake your mother, just tell me."  (Instead of roaring like I would to cut it out!)    There were other peculiarities, too.

Hope each of you have a good day.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Trish, congrats on the new little one! Carol, sounds like your trip was great!

PT told me about a shoe called barefoot shoes, because I walk so much better without shoes on. I went to Amazon and got a pair for $25, delivered yesterday. A very thin material and sole, so the feeling isn’t muffled. I wore them today, and I can really feel a difference.

I’ve always been a fast reader. Recently I saw a test online, and I came in at 400 words per minute. I go in spurts, if I have a cross stitch project going, then I read a lot less.

Another hot and humid one. Manda, Ben and the kids just boarded their flight.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Carol, welcome home!  Sounds like you had a wonderful trip.  I am not sure I could travel in the US alone, let alone outside the country.

Holly, Will you wear those shoes outdoors or just in the house?  Dean tried a pair of those a couple years ago when he was running.  He said they were OK but did not buy a second pair.

I had my appt with the cardiologist and all is well.  She doesn't want to see me for another year.  No stress test this time either, so that is good.  Said to keep up whatever I am doing.

We had wonderful BLTs for supper too.  The home grown tomatoes are so delicious this time of year.  A friend of Dean's brought us a bag with 30 ears of fresh sweet corn.  I wanted to get it prepared and frozen today, but Aaron and Katie came to visit, so I will get to it tomorrow.  I don't want to wait too long to do it.

Nothing else to say, so will sign off.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Good morning, friends! I'm an early bird this morning. Had to get up to get the trash bin to the curbside. They come in 30 minutes, so I was cutting it close!

Some good things about a double mastectomy...you don't have to buy bras anymore (unless it's a prosthetic bra.) No more sweating and rashes under the boobs. No more wishing I was smaller, lol. Also, greatly lowers the risk of a second cancer.

Holly, that is amazing! If I read that fast, I'm afraid I would forget what I just read from one chapter to the next, lol!

Cheryl, glad you got a good doctor report! A BLT is one of my favorite sandwiches. All my tomatoes are gone. I had 13 small watermelons from only one plant, but it was so hot this summer, I never went out there and watered them, so I don't know how big they could have gotten. It made a mess with all the vines, but it was fun to watch them grow. There is nothing any better than fresh picked corn. Lucky you!
