Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Thank you again DAINE, hope things have settled down in your neck of the woods!

HOLLY I know if I wave my arm about when I am driving my watch clocks up the steps LOL too funny, but if I jog on the spot it doesn't register, those darn smart watches aren't as clever as we have been led to believe!!

INDY I am so glad Andrew found his place, too bad about the parking, in the city here you can pay a small fortune for parking so I'm glad we live in the suburbs, YIKES on the no security, that is probably why you have had so many scams, I am always checking our statements and keep changing our passwords. Awful that we are having to do this all the time. I worry about the Mr, he's not as safe as he thinks he is. He has Facebook now, and he watches videos on it, I worry that he'll click on the wrong one, he's a button pusher LOL

JANET, I like a nice simple dinner, so it's sounded OK to me, we had leftovers tonight, lots of choice LOL and now the fridge is looking better LOL I'm sorry you don't get to see the grands

SANDRA I also love that you go to read  near the window, just being near others is nice - hope you got your watermelon! And I'm sure Matt enjoyed his soup. How is Gina doing, is she still OK?

CHERYL I miss walking our guy sometimes, I could always walk either Alfie or Oscar, but they don't do walks very well, they have never been walked regularly, they do go off leash when they go camping - but stay close to the vans usually, or swim in the lakes in summer. They have dog life jackets LOL too funny to see them, Megan is very aware of the dangers of the lakes and dams they visit, too easy to have a mishap. Alfie even goes on the kayaks LOL he loves it though it tends to make it a bit heavy in the front - which is where he chooses to ride!

DEVONNE I hope your poor baby feels better, she might be still missing her buddy I think it takes a long while to get over the chemo meds, or just the meds in general for cancer treatment. I'm sure you will rest if needed. The chores can always wait another day!

We had a fun day shopping for a new bed, got one in the first stop - I was going to try another store in the same complex, but was happy with the style and price, and he spent a lot of time with us, they will take the old mattress and base ( for a price ) our local govt will also take them - free - but we have to book it in, and then may have a wait of a few weeks, so for me there was no choice, pay up and get rid of it. LOL I didn't want to have to store the old ones for even 2 weeks!!

Megan is heading to Melbourne for work in a couple weeks, of course it's the same time as my quilt camp, but only for one day, funny though she and Gary will cross paths, he will be there Tues to Thursday, and she will be there Wed to Fri, they are in different parts of the city though, the accomodation and flights are paid for by their work. The boys are happy they will have a night to themselves, I need to get Dean to the bus stop for school, that will be fun, I need to phone him to make sure he's up. John is great, he gets himself up and off to work and uni, but that will too early for Dean, John leaves at 5.30am, Dean will just go back to sleep!!

I am knitting some dishcloths, found some cotton and I may as well use it up, I have been doing more fabric scrap cutting and now have enough for 2 braid quilts, so I'll take that to camp too, easy sewing and I don't have to concentrate on a pattern.

Tomorrow is yoga and house cleaning, I want a new bed for the spare room too, I think I'll get a single, it has a small double at the moment, but we don't really need it, I use it when the Mr is kicking and tossing around, and his sis won't be staying any more, so no need for anything bigger.
Still raining on and off, we are getting pretty sick of it, but long range forecasters say it will be a very wet spring for us YUK YUK.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Bright sun this morning. Hope it lasts and warms up. I’m tired of cool temps and rain. Haven’t been in the pool for 2+ weeks. Before we know it we’ll be closing up the pool. 😢

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

WHOLLY HOLY BLOOPERS.....
1.  A SONG FEST WAS HELL AT THE METHODIST CHURCH WEDNESDAY.
2.  TODAY'S SERMON:
HOW MUCH CAN A MAN DRINK?   WITH HYMNS FROM THE CHOIR.

GOING TO BE HOT TODAY AND HOTTER THE NEXT FEW DAYS.  HIGH 80S TODAY AND LOW 90S MON THRU WED.  YIKES.

TRISH.....I CROCHET DISH CLOTHS AT CRAFT MORNING.  WE SEEM TO MOSTLY CHAT AND I CAN DO THOSE MINDLESSLY.

JANET.....YOU'D BETTER GET IN SOME POOL USE NOW WHILE THERE'S STILL HOT WEATHER.  SOON IT'LL BE TOO COLD.

JUDY.....GLAD THAT ANDREW GOT AN APT HE LIKES.  TOO BAD NO PARKING GOES WITH IT BUT IF HE HAS STREET PARKING EASILY AVAILABLE, ITS ALL GOOD.

ITS A SLOW DAY FOR ME BEING SUNDAY.  I DID CLEAR OUT MY FRIDGE OF A FEW THINGS THAT I THOUGHT A BIT TOO PAST IT TO EAT AND TOOK A BAG TO THE DUMPSTER THIS MORNING.
I BAGGED MY CHICKEN AND GROUND BEEF FOR MY FREEZER.  GOODNESS, I NOW HAVE OVER 10 LBS GROUND BEEF IN THERE SO I THINK NEXT SHOPPING DAY I WILL NOT BUY ANYMORE.
MY SON BOUGHT ME 4 CHICKEN BREASTS AND IT COST $14.  EACH IS OVER A LB.  MY FREEZER IS PRETTY PACKED RIGHT NOW.  IN FACT SO FULL THAT I HAD TO PULL OUT THE LAST OF A CONTAINER OF ICE CREAM THAT I COULD NOT FIT BACK IN.  NOT MUCH ICE CREAM LEFT IN IT BUT I DON'T FEEL LIKE EATING ICE CREAM RIGHT NOW.  IT MAY HAVE TO GO DOWN THE  SINK.   I HAVE A NEW CONTAINER SO NOT WITHOUT MY ICE CREAM.
MY SON GOT ALL ON MY LIST THIS WEEK AND BROUGHT HOME A LARGE CONTAINER OF CHICKEN RICE SOUP AFTER HE'S HAD 2 BOWLS FOR LUNCH.  I GUESS HE REALLY LIKES IT.  I ALSO SENT HIM HOME WITH TWO 12" ITALIAN SANDWICHES AND A NEW BAG OF VEGGIE STRAWS SOMEONE GAVE ME WHICH I DO NOT EAT.  I AM ALL SET WITH FOOD.
I GOT UP EARLIER THAN USUAL SINCE I FELL ASLEEP EARLIER.  NOW I'M SURE I'LL BE KNOCKED OUT SOMETIME THIS AFTERNOON.  BUT BEFORE I DO, I WANT TO MAKE A SMALL BATCH OF MILD CHILI.  I HAVE SOME LOVELY RED SWEET PEPPERS TO ADD.  I DON'T HAVE ANY SOUP LEFT HAVING SHARED IT WITH MY SON AND A COUPLE OTHERS.  IT WORKS FOR ME.  I STOP STUFFING MYSELF BECAUSE I NEED TO FINISH LEFTOVERS.  I GAINED BACK ONE LB AFTER STUFFING MY FACE LAST NIGHT WITH CHIPS AND CHEDDAR CHEESE.  I WILL BE GOOD TODAY.  I HAVE THE DR. VISIT ON TUESDAY AND WANT TO BE DOWN 10 LBS BY THEN.
I BOUGHT SOME LEMONS ON SALE YESTERDAY SO WILL MAKE SOME LEMONADE TODAY AND I GOT MY HALF WATERMELON.  THAT NEEDS SLICING AND SORTING.
I WANT TO DO MY LAPS THIS MORNING AND MAYBE WORK ON MY JIGSAW AND DO SOME READING IN THE COMMON ROOM THIS AFTERNOON.  ITS A GOOD PLACE TO READ.  FOLKS WANDER PAST COMING AND GOING AND STOP TO CHAT.  LOVE THAT COMRADERIE.
THAT'S IT FROM ME LADIES.  A LOT OF THE SAME BUT I KEEP ON POSTING REGARDLESS WHETHER YOU NEED IT OR NOT.
ENJOY YOUR DAY.  HUGS. QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Hi there, I'll be very brief!  Jamie and Kendra are here and Kendra is cooking something.  I'm guessing we'll go for a ride after a bit.  I'm sorry, but I can't think of a thing to say, so will sign off, BJ.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Judy, congratulations to Andrew on getting his new place. Too bad he couldn't get a parking space. I think you said he works from home, which is good he doesn't have to fight the heavy traffic.

Cheryl, I do think it is the meds. Today I feel great and somewhat energized. A lot of women say you get a "Tamoxifen belly" once you start these pills. I believe it. I've never had a big belly, but now I have a jelly roll. Remember the Jello commercial and the shaky belly? That is me now, lol.

Holly, I read The Woman in Cabin 10 and liked it a lot.

I have fresh broccoli I need to fix so will have that & sweet corn with baked Ritz mayo chicken. If you can find Pictsweet yellow & white corn (frozen), I highly recommend it. You can get it steamable or the kind you have to cook on the stove.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

It was another humid and hot day today.  I had our AC off for a couple of days but turned it back on today when the temp reached 80 in the house.  Much cooler now inside.  Neither Dean nor I grew up having any sort of AC, so we don't use it a lot.  He never uses it in his truck, but I do use it in my car.   Our kids and grands think we are weird because of it.    I have to have the house closed up for winter, so I do I not care to close it up all summer.

We had salad and chicken for supper.  I bought a rotisserie chicken and we had that.  I know they have additives, but they are so convenient.

It was a quiet day.  I did a load of laundry, read some and played word games on my tablet.

Holly, I did forget that the arm movement will count as steps.  I went to the grocery store yesterday and wanted to see how many steps I took while there.  It did not register because I was holding onto the cart.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

we had a nice lunch at Longhorn with F and C. I love their Parmesan crusted chicken!

Just finished The Lake Escape by Jamie Day. 3 women have disappeared near a Vermont lake, one every 30 years. Did the lake take them as legend says? Izzie is a young true crime buff. She lies about her qualifications to get a nanny job for twin 5 year olds. Julia, Erika and David grew up summering on the lake. Now adults, they all have secrets. David’s new girlfriend disappears after a shouting match with him, making her the 3 rd missing woman. As a search is mounted, secrets come out. Very well written, highly recommend.

Forgot to say, our AC has been off for a few days, but it’s getting hot again, so I plan to turn it on tomorrow morning.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Well -----  the best laid plans, or so they say, it didn't go well today.

I had to move my car (10.30am) as the Mr needed to get his out, I thought mine started, his is noisy when I'm right behind it, nope mine didn't, and I didn't realise, mine rolled forward, didn't hit him thank heavens, but now mine was stuck with nose under the garage door opening - looked under the bonnet, OOPS, the battery was yucky, had been oozing/leaking. Call road service, lucky W could borrow Pete's car to get to his exercise class --  finally got on, my road service had expired, Hyundi pay it each year as long as I get my car serviced there, it was 2 weeks overdue, they kept me waiting while they confirmed I was booked in on Wed and then sent someone out, 2 hour wait, so I missed my yoga class, but he got the new battery in and I am all good to go now!!

Such a little thing, but it's thrown my whole day out.

CHERYL I am a bit like you, we do have the house mostly closed up in winter, but I run the A/C a lot in summer too, feels like it's been closed up for months, it's been so wet here as well, and our house seems seems be cold all winter. It will be nice when it's warmer and it can be open all day (and night)

Yum on the watermelon SANDRA - we get it all year, but it's nicer fresh in summer. I looked a bit dry and pale when I saw it in the store.

HOLLY you are getting through some books,I'll have to check if it's at the library. I seem to be doing other things at the moment, need to get back to my books.

DEVONNE I love fresh corn, our frozen always seems to be too soft for me, I love that messy  juicy fresh corn, we have had a lot in the stores lately, I haven't cooked it in the husk yet - either in the microwave or BBQ, been wanting to try, I just usually add to boiling water and cook a bit. I love the crunch LOL

Seeing as I'm so far behind I might just do some knitting and catch up on chores tomorrow, easy dinner tonight  -- Nagi's crustless quiche and salads. Delish and so easy. A bit cool for salad, but that's easy too LOL

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

SIGNS OF THE TIMES......
1.  ON A MAINE SHOP:  OUR MOTTO IS TO GIVE OUR CUSTOMERS THE LOWEST POSSIBLE PRICES AND WORKMANSHIP.
2.  AT A NUMBER OF MILITARY BASES:  RESTRICTED TO UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL.

ITS MONDAY.  ANOTHER START TO ANOTHER DULL WEEK FOR ME.

YESTERDAY I ORDERED FROM TARGET.  WANTED TO GET A HAIR STRAINER FOR MY SHOWER DRAIN AS SUGGESTED BY ANOTHER.  I AM TIRED OF FINDING MY HAIR STUCK IN THE DRAIN.  I HAD TO USE DRAIN-O TO CLEAR IT LAST WEEK.  IT NOW RUNS BEAUTIFULLY SO WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY.  WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW THAT WORKS OUT.
ALSO ORDERED SOME THINGS FOR MY MEDICINE CABINET, LIKE BAND-AIDS (TRISH, BANDAGES THAT STICK).  THE BOX WITH THE FEW I HAD LEFT HAD THE DATE OF 2005 ON IT.  I THINK THE STICKINESS MUST BE PRETTY WORN OFF.  I ORDERED MULTIPLE SIZES.  ALSO MORE SUPPLEMENTS LIKE FISH OIL AND TURMERIC AND VIT. C.  ALONG WITH SOME A AND D OINTMENT THAT'S MADE FOR DIAPER RASH BUT WORKS GREAT FOR USING UNDER THE FATTY FOLDS ON MY BODY TO PREVENT RASHES AND PAINFUL RUBS.  I HAVEN'T HAD A PROBLEM SINCE USING THE STUFF.  NEEDED TO REACH $35 FOR THE FREE SHIPPING.  I LOVE ORDERING FROM TARGET.
THE REST OF MY DAY WAS QUIET AS USUAL FOR SUNDAY.  THE ONLY THING I COOKED WAS MILD CHILI AND HAD SOME CHOC MILK WITH MINE TO FIGHT ANY HEAT.  THAT ALWAYS WORK ITS CHARM.  YES, CHOCOLATE MILK MADE WITH HERSHEY SYRUP BECAUSE I DO NO LIKE WHITE MILK AND NEVER HAVE SINCE I CAN REMEMBER.  EVEN IN SCHOOL, I COULN'T DRINK WHITE MILK.  IF IT CAME WITH MY LUNCH IN THE CAFETERIA, I WOULD GIVE IT TO ANOTHER KID.  I LOVED WHEN THEY STARTED SERVING SOME CHOC MILK BUT HAD TO GET THERE EARLY BEFORE THE FEW CARTONS WERE DEVOURED BY OTHERS.
READ A BOOK MOST OF THE DAY AND FINISHED IT AND PLAYED SOLITAIRE ON THE COMPUTER.  THE REST OF THE TIME I WATCHED TV AND GOT CAUGHT UP ON THE SHOWS I HAD RECORDED.
TODAY I HAVE LITTLE SCHEDULED.  A BIT OF DUSTING SINCE THE GOVT IS COMING TO INSPECT MY APT. TOMORROW.  ITS A RANDOM THING SO THEY MAY NOT EVEN DO MINE BUT IT'LL BE NEAT.  I ALSO HAVE A DR APPT TOMORROW FOR MY REGULAR CHECK-UP.  DON'T EXPECT ANY PROBS THERE.  I HOPE I AM DOWN THE 10 LBS I WANTED BY TOMORROW.  I AM BEING GOOD TODAY.

TRISH.....SORRY YOU MISSED YOGA BUT HAPPY THE FIX WASN'T A DIFFICULT ONE.  NOW YOU WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT YOUR BATTERY FOR A GOOD LONG TIME.

CHERYL......I AGREE WITH YOU.  WHEN I DROVE, I RARELY USED MY A/C IN THE CAR.  I OPENED MY WINDOWS.  FOR SOME REASON I DID NOT LIKE THE AIR BLOWING AGAINST MY CHEST SO OPTED FOR FRESH AIR.  IN MAINE THAT'S NOT SO BAD SINCE WE OFTEN HAVE NICE BREEZES.  WHEN I LIVED IN FLA. I COULDN'T DO THAT.  TOO DARN HOT.

THAT'S IT LADIES.  SEE, DULLSVILLE STRIKES AGAIN.  HUGS FOR YOU ALL. QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Rain again!  Not predicted. Luckily I closed the windows before I went to bed.   It’s only 72 now, maybe going to 78.  I never complain about the heat.
Trish- we usually close the pool late September…and reopen in April although it’s never warm enough til late May.
And sorry about the battery.  DH changes the battery well before the expiration date just so that happens.  Sort of wasteful I guess but better than having a problem.
I can’t remember the last book I read.  Not bragging , I’ve just never been a reader.  My mother read all day long, always romance novels.  My father also was a reader but always history.  I guess it was so they didn’t have to relate (talk) to each other.  🤷‍♀️. Strange household for sure.  My sister had several masters degrees and a PhD and wrote a number of books about physics, quantum stuff, etc.  The other was an athlete and physical Ed teacher.  My father always wanted sons and made it clear that I was his last hope.
   Anyway.  Back later.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Holly, sounds like that book would make a good movie!

Trish, how nice they came to your house to replace your battery. Last August I thought mine was bad, even though the expiration date was still good. It turned out to be the starter. I found a mobile car repair guy to fix it.

The pool here closes the end of September. Same for Greg's pool. He said they only went there twice all summer. In almost 5 years of being here, I've never been to the pool. It's a really nice clubhouse with a nice kitchen. Hannah's HS graduation party was held there.

I ordered a coat rack for my bedroom to hang my robes on and my daily clothes. I need to move Sandy's crate to another corner. She gets in it some, but seems to prefer the quilt I put down for her. I'm going to take her to the vet this week to get her nails trimmed. It's not free, but $15 and that's what I gave Dee.

Good Morning to everyone!  It was interesting reading the posts everyone had put on the board this morning.  As usual, I don't have much of anything to say, so will just sign off, sending best wishes to everyone!  BJ.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

I've taken care of my first problem of the week.  My newspaper wasn't delivered on Fri., Sat., Sun., and now, today.    Called them and the subscription was canceled on Fri., the 8th.
Why?  If I understood the accented-English person, correctly, due to non-payment in May.
I suppose it was due to needing to change the credit card number after one of our hacks.  If that happens, I always call with the new number as soon as I can, but maybe the timing was right when the payment was to be automatically withdrawn and the payment was denied.  Life can be one blunder after another... Oh for the days when you paid for things in person or by check.  Now, the USPS can be unreliable for mailing checks and besides Howard isn't going to back to that.

Holly, I saw 16 pics of Andrew's apt. and the front of his bldg. but no street shots.  I think it's what's considered a neighborhood so better than the busy street his current apt. is on.

BTW, speaking of a/c...due to his current apt. being shown today, he had to vacate it so he came home to work from his parents house today and tomorrow.  The South Shore electric train he rides had broken a/c and the windows don't open!  ML texted me but I haven't  heard how THAT was!  It's a 1/2 hour ride.

Cheryl, the "broken" car reminded me of my son.  Danny has been restoring a 1970 Chev, Monte Carlo for years, part by part, all factory-made so it's taken him very long to find those.    He finally finished it this spring, was able to drive it to several car-enthusiast gatherings and he's very proud of it.  It was given to him by his dad before he died and was one I actually drove 'back in the day'.
One part (not sure what) has failed and now he has to save up to replace that expensive thing, so it's sidelined again.  He's so disappointed.

Time to get some breakfast.  I was awake for a long spell in the night, so slept in this morning, this the late breakfast.  Howard isn't eating...
Have a great day.
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

[size=200]Janet, how sad that you don’t enjoy reading. Question: when you do read, do you just see the words, or can you see the action in your head? I remember reading a long time ago that people who just see the words are less likely to enjoy reading.

Going to be 90 today! And 99 in Portland! AC is back on. Humidity is also supposed to be going back up.

Had a podiatrist appt this morning, then went to the library. Dinner will be Longhorn leftovers.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

Holly, for a monument I thought you meant today is your 90th birthday!  I guess I have birthdays on my mind since I will be 80 on Sunday.

I had such a good day last Tuesday. My quilt guild doesn’t usually meet during the summer but I invited them here for the day. We are a small guild and not everyone could come but there were 10 of us. Two brought their sewing machines, the rest brought handwork or cutting to do. I decided to use Mom’s pink depression glass plates for our lunch. She loved fixing fancy lunches so I followed that tradition. We had chicken salad on slider buns and charcuterie cups. A friend brought a mandarin Orange cake for dessert which was served on my mother-in-law’s Fosteria plates. Another friend brought a lovely bouquet of flowers from her husband’s flower garden.

One member of our guild spends the winter in Florida. She has become friends with the pastor and his wife of the church they attend there. That family has two teenage sons and EIGHT foster children ages 3-14. Our guild is making quilts for each of the kids. We hope to have them finished in time for Patty to take them when they head south in November.

Re: ODT SUNDAY AUGUST 10 ~ SAT AUGUST 16

LOL, Mary Lou, not quite. 72 is bad enough!

Finished another one! Home is where the bodies are by Jeneva Rose, who’s new to me. Book jacket describes it as a chilling family thriller about the (sometimes literal) skeletons in the closet. Really good.
