Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Devonne, hoping for good Molly news!

We did the paperwork to renew our passports, I hate that kind of paperwork, I’m so afraid of messing it up that I get totally stressed. Now it’s done and mailed, the renewal center is in Philly. We went from the post office - our town doesn’t have one anymore - to Chick Filet and got lunch.

Ralph said I was making sounds in my sleep- we compared the time to my sleep app, and I was in deep sleep at the time.

New author to me- Allen Eskens. He’s from MN, and puts me sorta in mind of William Kent Krueger. Sort of a series, with recurring characters. My cookie swap book club (using the term very loosely) decided to read Saving Emma. One of the women had just read it and recommended it. Then we found he had others with the same characters, so now most of us are reading our way thru his books. Very readable, good stories.

Trish, I still have the same quilt up on the HQ, but I got sidetracked.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Molly's bloodwork is not good. She has kidney disease, which the vet said would make her have pee accidents and drink an excessive amount of water. Her liver count is also highly elevated, over 2 times what it should be. Today she fell over 3 times in the backyard. The vet said that is probably from her heart murmur. They still suspect she has Cushing disease too. I have to make the sad decision to have her put to sleep before the weekend. Will see if there are any changes tonight.

Trish, isn't Chloe the one who is pregnant? I hope they can work things out.

Holly, I also have wondered if you were ever able to get a quilt done on your long arm machine and if you were happy with the results. Good luck with the tension.

On a more positive note, I have watermelons growing!

The striped one is a Jubilee and the solid green is a Black Diamond. Black Diamonds don't have stripes and they can get big. This is the kind my Dad always planted. I have to water them tonight.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Devonne, congrats on the new to you car!  Dean was a master auto tech for years for Toyota/Mercedes, but he said Honda is just as reliable as Toyota.  We drove a Honda years ago.  I drive a Toyota Venza but I am not a big fan of it as I do not like the wide console in the middle of the front seats.  It seems like my legs are always cramped in.  But it runs like a gem and has never had any problems.

So sorry about Molly.  ((hugs))  I know the heartache and worry you have at this time.

How great that you AC got fixed so quickly!  Aaron's is still not fixed as he needs a new compressor and it is not in stock anywhere.  At least that is with both AC techs told us.  Aaron and family are flying to California on Friday and will be gone for 8 days, so hopefully it will be repaired when they get back.

Holly, I just cannot order chicken when I go to Texas Roadhouse!    I am sure the chicken is good, but it is the STEAK I want.

Holly, I will check out that author.  Are the stories humorous?  I am kind of tired of the psychological/murder stories.  I need a break and want to read something light.  I can always find a romance book to read, I guess.

It has been really hot and humid; yesterday it was 91 degrees again but today it as much better.

Many, many prayers for the families of those Texas victims.  Also for the lost animals, my heart goes out to them too.  So, so tragic.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Devonne, it sounds like you’ve made the decision. What’s best for her is the main thing. Do you have vets who will come to the home for it?

Cheryl, no humor. Not psychological thrillers, more like straight police detective books. Not particularly gory, most of the violence is off screen.

LOL, Cheryl, Ralph is so not a steak person, never has been. F and C frequently get small steaks, they never pick one from the case.

We just talked to Manda and Ben for over an hour! I was afraid we would have to get off because of a tstorm, but it didn’t get real close.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Turkey breast is in the crockpot, should be done around 4.

Manda and Ben and the kids are coming out in August. Last week I sent Ben a text with a pic of a 12 pack of Mountain Dew (he’s the only one who drinks it) and a 12 pack of Coke, and I said, “We’re ready for your visit.” Last night he told me he’d been having a stressful day at work, and his parents were visiting and his dad was hassling him about things his dad thought Ben should have done around the house, and then he got the text and he wanted to cry, because we never ask anything of them, and we only want to make their lives easier. So the moral is, a small action on our part can make a huge impact on someone.

We also had a t storm last night, but it’s another hot one already here.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Holly and Sandra, thanks for the information on the books.  Sandra, I will certainly look those book up; sounds like what I am looking for right now.

Cool and humid today, so the windows are open and the AC off.

I have pork chops in the oven and I am using bone-in ones.  I read a food hint that said not to use boneless because the bone in gives much more flavor.  I usually but the boneless, so we shall see.  I have a brown sugar/soy sauce/garlic sauce on them.  Recipe sounded good.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Just finished supper.  A thrown together soup in the crock pot and a salad with fresh stuff from the farmer's market ML and I went to after we visited our 99 yr. old aunt-by-marriage at her assisted living.  She'll be 100 in November. She's a wealth of family and community info.
The farmer's market is sort of on the same grounds and ML & Bill go there about every week.
Several beautiful dogs there.  I guess it's a thing around here to take your designer dog to the farmer's mkt!

Praying for Molly and you, Devonne.  I so feel your pain.  Love and hugs.

This is a busy week for us.  Neurologist appt. on Monday afternoon.  W-M visit afterwards where I ran into my cousin, Susie and caught up with her.  Tuesday, we went to lunch with friends, Albert and Carol and caught up with them.  Howard changed the mower belt and mowed the whole lawn this morning.  Tomorrow he has lunch with Dave and is going to the DMV for our license plates.  Friday is our Small Group get-together and Sat., ML and I have to go to a funeral visitation,  Very unusual for us to have that many things to do. I'm looking forward to my day at home alone tomorrow, though.

You all sound pleasantly busy, too.  Cheryl, I've heard that about bone-in vs. boneless pork chops, but IMHO,  the real reason they taste so blah and dry is because hogs have little to no  fat on them anymore.   The sauce on yours does sound good.

Going to go read the paper and do the crossword puzzle.  Sweet Dreams...

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Monday Molly was in really bad shape. Tuesday I thought she would be dead when I got up. Today, she seems back to her "normal" self. She went outside today 3 times by herself and Monday I had to carry her out. She still has kidney disease, so I know her time is short. I will not let her suffer, but today was a total surprise.

Holly, no vet house calls here. In the office, they are given a sedative and then the shot that stops their heart. She said it isn't painful at all; they just go to sleep. They have a service that cremates them. You can get their ashes if you wish.

Cheryl, I hate those high consoles too. The Tucson and the Santa Fe were the same way. I did like the way the Tucson drove and the Venza. The Honda CRV has a low console so that was a big plus for me.  The visibility isn't as great as in my Highlander. The windows in the Highlander were bigger.

Carol, how far are you from where this flooding happened? Still such sad news about the death toll and the missing. What is your next quilt project?

Linda, I need stamps. Thanks for letting us know!

BJ, hope your legs are better tomorrow. Hugs, my friend!

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Devonne, I’m glad she seems improved. Heather had a vet come out for Honey, who hated the car, and they didn’t want to upset her. And Manda had the same for Oscar. We had Sly, Tina and Donald cremated, they are on my mantle.

My turkey breast came out great! So moist. I made mashed, stuffing, gravy, Brussels sprouts and had cranberry sauce. Tons left, we’ll eat another dinner than I’ll freeze some of the turkey.

Linda, thanks for the heads up, we’ll get some stamps.

ITS A RAINY MORNNING BUT ITS NEEDED.  TEMPS ARE FINE.

I SAW MY CARDIOLOGIST AND EKG WAS JUST FINE AND THE NEW MEDS ARE WORKING.  HE TOLD ME HOW TO HANDLE DROPS IN PULSE AND ITS OK UNLESS IT DROPS TOO FAR.  I FEEL GOOD AND HAVE MORE ENERGY SO I'M DOING WELL, THANK GOODNESS.
LAST NITE I WON 3.50 AT BINGO.  IT WAS A GOOD NITE.
TODAY I GO TO CRAFTS IN A FEW MINUTES.  ITS ALWAYS NICE TO SIT AROUND AND CHAT WITH THE OTHERS.

HAVE A GOOD DAY.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

Good morning.    Howard is off for lunch with Dave.  I have the doors open, the TV off and am listening only to the birds, mainly the wren, who for her small size, tops them all in volume.
So beautiful...  (I'm crabby so much of the time, here, feel like I should also post the nice things.)

Devonne, I'm so glad to hear that Molly has rallied and given you more time together.  Cherish every moment.

Holly, it all sounds so delicious.  You and others, here, prompted me to buy a frozen turkey breast a few weeks ago.  It's waiting and is something I've never crockpotted before.  I'm past preparing a whole turkey and while we love the dark meat I can't much wrangle anything anymore, so the breast will be the perfect size...when I get  the urge!

BJ, sounds like you're feeling better today.  Nice for Rhonda to get  to see her daughter for a bit.  And, you'll get to hear about it.

Howard called and was in and out of the DMV in 15 mins.  He had to go in person to get the handicap plate for his truck.  He's not had one before.  We've had one on the Honda for a long time.   So, he had an hour to kill before Dave and lunch.  He was going to look around for the cheapest gas.

QB, so glad for good medical news for you.  I find that sometimes just that makes you feel better!  What did you take to the craft room to work on today?

I need to go and wash my hair.  I just don't want to waste a minute of my alone time on mundane chores of any kind.  Shame on me...I'm so spoiled.

So, I'm off and will be back later.  Have a good afternoon...
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

I called the vet's office and told them Molly is doing better. They want to put her on a special diet for kidney function. Molly doesn't care much for dry dog food. She has really small teeth and I wonder if that is why (plus the fact "someone" got her used to human food. Who could that possibly be, lol? ) I'm going by the vet's office tomorrow to pick up a can of wet food to see if she will eat it. $4.66 for one can.

Judy, I'm glad you enjoy your time alone. My ex-SIL, Jan, said I did the right thing by not getting remarried. I told her it took me 52 years to get used to one man and I don't have another 52 years left to get used to another one, lol.

Re: ODT SUNDAY JULY 6 ~ SATURDAY JULY 12

I finally got everything moved and in place in my sewing room. It is wonderful, so much more room, better light, and a nice view out the windows. The only problem I am having is with irons. Last week, the one I had quit working. It was only about three weeks old so I returned it. Then I ordered one from Amazon that I thought would be better. It wouldn’t heat at all! So I am still without a good iron. I do have a small cheap one that I bought several years ago to take to retreats so it will do until I get another one.

I realize more all the time how much Bill spoiled me by taking care of so many things. On Tuesday, I needed to run some errands but the car would not start. He always took care of things like that so I panicked! After a few minutes, I started thinking straight and called a local mechanic that I know. Within a couple of hours, there was a new battery in my car and all was well. He said the battery was the original one so it was 7 years old, no wonder it died! I am so glad this happened at home instead of when I was out of town.

Other than those problems with the iron and the car, things have been going good for me. At my appointment with the cardiologist last week, she said my Afib isn’t happening often enough to warrant a further ablation, as long as I am faithful in taking blood thinner.

When I was a child, Dad had some blackberry bushes that produced the biggest, sweetest berries I have ever eaten. (I hated picking them because the bushes also produced big thorns!) Last SaturdayI went to a farmers market and bought some blackberries that were just as good. I made three pies, baked one and put two in freezer for sometime when my kids are here.
