Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

THANK YOU ALL for the good thoughts for my girl, she is doing much better, may come home on Tuesday, Dr says he is no hurry to release her.

Sorry DIANE just got back from the hospital, and had a late dinner, now just getting here, and it's late LOL

SANDRA I have to make your chicken rice soup for my girl this week, Gary is doing pumpkin soup for her first, she doesn't have much of an appetite, I remember I didn't either, and soup is always good when you're like that. Poor thing, Gary mention today he could do a big slow cooker of hearty meat and veg, I thought she would throw up at the thought LOL  Men often don't relate to cooking for after surgery. simple, plain food is best.

CHERYL thanks for the explanation, I guess using scraps is god for that one, she seems to make a bit of a production oof it all though, you could do it much more simply chain piecing and without cutting the long strips into shorter lengths.

I'll post a pic of a top I pulled out today, not ironed, and I put it away a few months ago, better get it finished, i put it away because I couldn't decide what to do with borders. LOL Still not sure.
I was hoping to do a beige type one, but think the colour would be better.

Flooding is still happened north, and getting worse for next couple days.

I went to the hospital this morning, then came home for a while, Pete went back, then rang to tell me friends had popped in to see her, so I put off my visit till after 4.30. Dr came this morning, told her he was glad he had done the surgery when he did as it was pretty big fibroids plus the tumour on the right was quite big as well and she might be feeling pain there a bit more. He is so lovely, he changed the dressings and spent time talking to her and Gary, I stepped out.
He drives a very snazzy sports car, I saw him as I left driving off with the top down.

I spent quite along time cleaning bedrooms last week, so a lesser clean tomorrow, which will be nice. I do want to get the floors polished though.

Hopefully attaching the pic of the braid quilt top, I have made a few of these, they go together quickly, just with 2 1/2" by 6 1/2" pieces, then trim around. You do have to watch not to stretch, as all the sides end up on the bias, but I have been careful folding it, just needs a small border to keep it stable, quilt simply and I'm done!  This one the braids are done the same, the others I have the darks against each other, and the lights, so you start off opposite on half the braids, e.g. start with dark on bottom of 1/2 and light on the other strips. It also looks nice.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

I did forget to spring forward and realized it when I saw the time in the kitchen. Greg and Carter came and we went to Cracker Barrel.

Trish, glad Megan is getting the care she needs. I love your quilt. I have seen that pattern a lot on the internet.

My appt. is in the morning at 10:30, so I hope he clears me to start radiation.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

good morning

My days seem to be spent doing hospital runs, took yesterday to clean the house, and that felt good 😁

SANDRA do you have to monitor your BP, sorry the numbers are high,  but glad you had some time with your family 🥰

DEVONNE she’s in the right place, possibly coming home today, she’ll call when Dr comes.

Gary has been great, sees her every visiting session, plus keeping things going at home.

Our bedside lamps need replacing, maybe I can get them today, my side the globes have only lasted a few days in the last 2 weeks have had to change 3 times, something is wrong. Of course it could also be the power board, but I’ll know that if the new lamps have the same problem 🤣🤣

It’s rainy here today, my training class is on but I decided not to go, Gary will need help getting her and her bag to his car, and timing would be bad for my class.

My quilt is still waiting on a decision, do I go light border or darker?. All of the others I have done have the darker prints, so maybe that is how this will go, I just want another “finish” too many works in progress here, as I found when I sorted out the closet 😁😁

Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

Afternoon Y'all!

My mom just can't catch a break!  Friday I was all day in the ER with her.  She was very lethargic.  Turns out she had an infection at the surgical site and down into the hip area.  Surgery on Saturday to remove the infection, installed antibiotic beads, and will return to surgery tomorrow to do the same thing.  Infectious disease doctor called and said she will be there for at least another week.  She is already more herself.  More than she has been since this whole thing began.  I never realized how much pain she was in.  They put her on a rehab unit this time, so PT will see her a bit more often, than on the orthopedic unit!  That is good.

The facility where she was was going to charge her $500 a night to hold her room.  I moved out all her stuff on Friday.  They called today and gave a strong hint that she may not be allowed back due to her "behavior issues".  Let me see, she was in a great deal of pain, had a major infection brewing and was lashing out at people.  She is 92, with mild dementia, I think I would do that too!  If they don't want her fine, we can spend her money elsewhere!  Guess I need to get a list together, just in case!  Like I don't have anything better to do with my non-existent spare time!  Sleep, what is that, I can go for days without sleep!

Luke is applying everywhere.  The problem is, they are afraid to hire him in case he is offered his park service job back as he may bail on them.  It is reasonable.  The other reasons are, we do in state, veterans first, instate second, and then the other applications.  So he ends up at the bottom of most out of state lists.  He may get the Acadia position, it has to go through the not so lovely DOGE first, and they see the fired due to poor performance, so his hopefully soon to be boss, has argued for him.  He is also on the list for a local, National park, so hopefully he will get a job for the summer season.  All we can do is pray that something works for him!

Sara is doing good.  No surprise there!

Alex is hanging tough with his job.  Still looking for something better.

We have a new dog/puppy, his name is Simba.  The previous owner never took him to the vet.  I don't know the whole story, but, the owner was in the hospital, has to go to rehab and will not be able to take care of the dog.  My neighbor is this guys SisIL, and she offered us the dog or he would be put down.  Simba is 1yo, he is all puppy.  He has discovered Bandit's old toys and loves them.  Especially ones with squeakers.  He lived most of his life in a crate and is loving the freedom.  Loves the let me out, let me in game and the few really nice days that we have opened the porch door so far!  He is very strong.  He is a Rottweiler, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and pit mix.  Sweet baby, loves everybody!  He has started to calm down.

Yesterday was mom's birthday and the nurses made her a card.  I brought everything I had gotten in the mail, and gave it to her.  She had the best day I have seen in months!

Today is my MIL's Birthday.  Makes it easy to remember!  We just called her!

Need to go, supper is ready!

Miss y'all lots!

Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

Today I was cleared by my doctor to start radiation. I have an appt. tomorrow at the radiation center with my radiation oncologist.

Theresa, hope your Mom heals really fast. Good luck to Luke and Alex on finding jobs.

I made my first chicken pot pie last night. Had it for dinner tonight. Very good.

Sandra, don't worry. Probably something minor.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

Theresa, your poor mom!!!   So sorry she is going through all of this as well as you and the whole family.    Hope she feels better soon.
Good luck to  Luke.  Finding a job is a tough thing these days.

Devonne, good luck with your radiation.  My nephew and son both had it and said it was not too bad.  Aaron had a small burn like mark on his underarm pit since the radiation was on his lymph nodes.  A little aloe cream and it felt better.

Trish, I like that braid quilt.  That would be another way to use up some of my scraps since I do have a lot.  I will google it to see how it is made.  Your fabrics are perfect for it.  I do a lot of "kid quilts" so I have lots of bold and bright prints.  That may work in a braid; will have to try it and see.

It was a lovely day today but I managed to stay inside most of the day.

Sending prayers for all.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

Hi all

It's  nice not to have to go to the hospital this afternoon, we picked her up this morning, She is happy to be home, and will sleep better there, not being woken by nurses to see if she feels ok LOL

THERESA I am so sorry for all you are going through, there is a light heading to let you see the end of the tunnel I' sure, it might be a way off yet though, but I wish it was closer for you ((((hugs))) your poor mum has had a terrible time, no one should have to feel as she has done for so long!

CHERYL I will post the "other" variation I do for the braids, if you want I can send you a copy of the pattern, it's  bit odd to read the instructions, but if you do it exactly it works LOL The pattern for mine is from Pam & Nicky Lintott's Jelly Roll Quilts. They are an English mother and daughter. I have been in touch with them by email a few times, seem very nice.
I don't know which design I prefer, the darks together, or light and dark opposite. The pic is upside down, so if you can rotate it you can probably see how it goes together.  I just keep the pieces in separate piles, and my only requirement is that two are not next to each other, I usually sort them into piles so I know if the colour falls in the exact same place in the braid strip.

Time for me to get ready for bed!

Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

Trish- I always lean to dark borders as they seem to frame the quilt.  But If that doesn’t work I always use dark binding.  Same reason
Here’s a laugh…you all know I hate to drive and try to avoid it…well a friend of mine is not allowed to drive as she was in a coma for a month last summmer.  Her husband has been her chauffeur.  I drive myself to quilt and Bee meetings as they are in my “comfort zone “.  And lately ive  been picking her up and taking her with me.   It has turned into joke of the day with those who know how I feel about driving.  Even DH is getting a good laugh over it.  😆
Off to pick her up for lunch and then the Bee meeting.  🚗

Here’s something weird.  I had a dream that there was shiny black stones on the floor and eggplants hanging on the walls.  😂.

Good Morning to everyone!!  It has been raining here this morning, hope it stops, but it is breezy, the flag is flopping around.  Tracy is here, she's gone right now to take Frank to coffee with the guys.  She'll be back soon and we'll have breakfast.  I'm pretty hungry, but I'll survive until she gets back.  Love having her here, so nice to have company all the time.
Well, I'll sign off now, hope everyone has a nice day, BJ.

Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

Good morning.  I'm finally back with  you and have caught up with your posts.

Our small group gathering went well and it was 'small'--only 7 of us here. Actually, in our small house, that's a good size group.  We're a group of 10  with 12  in the summer which is quite crowded.    ML, came on Friday morning as she always does and tweaked everything.  She is not herself but said, "Mom, I need to get out and have something to do".   I so appreciated the help.  Actually, I didn't feel the best on Friday morning, so Howard pitched in and finished up some things that still needed done.  He can be oblivious or he can step up.  I just never know which Howard will show up!

I rested on Sat. and Sun., planning to carry on on Monday but started with a scratchy throat, and just felt unwell.  I'm a bit better this morning, but not good enough to go to my eye Dr. appt. this afternoon.  Howard has one, too, and he'll go to his...on his own!  He passed his driving test last Thurs. and was okayed to drive immediately.  He's  greatly relieved, so am I and thank you for the good wishes on that, last week...

Trish, I'm glad to hear all the reports on Megan's surgery.  It IS a big deal and more so the first time when you don't know what to expect at all.  I'm sure she feels loved and cared for by all of you.   I've always loved braid quilts.  Both of yours will  be lovely...and done!

Janet,  that is cute about the change in your driving habits and kind of you to drive your friend.   I know the feeling having had to step up and do all the driving until now.  My plan is to force myself to drive once a week to keep up my confidence, even if it's just to Dollar General, 3 miles away!

Devonne, another step in your recovery...I hope it goes smoothly for you.

Theresa, so sorry for your dear Mom.  I hope her slight dementia softens some of the angst for her.  I know it's all more than crystal clear for you.  Congrats on your new baby.  He sounds like he'll be a good fit for your family and a lucky pup he is!  I hope cuddling him gives you some respite for all this.

I coped with the time change better than usual.  For one thing, we went to bed much earlier Sat. night and I determined I would not gripe and complain and would ignore that it's one hour earlier than it should be!  So far, it's worked and  while I've not mentioned it, I'm sure Howard's glad of all that.

QB, it's good that you  followed thru and saw your doctor since you're so good at making your own changes when you see the need--plus, the time with your DD and SIL...and Matt, too,  over the weekend.

Cheryl, what breed is Bosco?  He sounds like a good dog.  Some people really like very large dogs and others, 'baby' dogs.  They both  can have their issues.  Fancy was always a baby and getting over the constant hands on we both had is something we miss.  Then there are the huge dogs that think they're lap dogs and almost crush their owners, like my small friend Bobbie and her series of labs and her last dog which was a labradoodle, who all tried to sit on her.

I'm off...Howard will be leaving for his appt. in 1/2 an hour.  So, I'll have some alone time.  He's going to pick up a pizza for supper.  Talk to you all later...
Indy

Re: ODT SUNDAY 9 MARCH ~ SAT MARCH 15

Afternoon y'all!

Mom had her second surgery today!  All went well!  That's good.  He did another culture of the area, so we wait 48-72 hours for that to come back and get a plan in place!  I really would like her to go back to her apartment, but I am not sure that will happen right away.  The doc is not happy with how the rehab facilities have been treating her.  We are in a no win situation.  But she feels better and that's what counts!

Need to go make phone calls and research facilities!  In case she can't go back to her apartment!  I just love doing this research. NOT!  The case manager said she has 3 places that have accepted her and would be calling me this afternoon.  So far no call!  Did get a call from the dietician, and he came to the surgery waiting room to talk to me in person!

I was working on the grandmother's flower garden quilt, my hexie quilt, and the surgeon said he always wondered how it was made.  He kept petting the quilt!  LOL!

Need to go call, later my Friends!
