Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

Another rainy, foggy dreary day here.  I did go out to run some errands.  I had $55 in Kohl's cash that was about to expire so I went to spend it.  Had a difficult time finding $55 worth of anything I wanted.  Bought a Food network small cookie sheet pan.  It is really heavy and it is the size I use often.  Also bought some slipper socks for myself.  Dean looked at them and said "Merry Christmas to you! "    I also got a small ( about 18 inches) winter decoration to put outside on my table by the door.  It has holly berries, greenery and some gold branches and is in a cute wicker vase/holder.  That is the extent of my decorations outdoors.   I do have a winter wreath to hang on the door but it is still in the basement.  Time is running out!!

I made a big pot of chili today and a pan of cornbread.  I will send most of it home tomorrow with Aaron so he and his family can have it for supper too.  One cannot make a small batch.

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

Remember the other day when I told you it was snowing?  Well, we got about 8" of snowman snow, also known as heart attack snow.  While DH was snowblowing I did some shoveling and then built a small snowman.

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

SANDRA you are so welcome, I would miss you all if we didn't have this forum to visit. (((hugs)))) Yum on the peanut butter things, I love peanut butter, and I have been down to pick up a pack of those Reece things, they are so good, Enjoy your lunch!! I see there is a new Call to the Midwife series coming, looking forward to that!

DEVONNE  we are only away 5 nights, it's Cunard Queen Elizabeth, we do take extra clothes to dress up, it's always been a tradition to "dress" for dinner, they have - as we say - dumbed it down for the Australians, which is a pity, there are so many liners you can go on with no dress code, we love it for the occasion, the staff dress so beautifully why not do so as well.  I have black & white formal wear for the formal night, otherwise a nice dress or long dressy pants and some glitzy tops. Most people will probably NOT dress up, apparently not even a jacket for the men is needed, but the Mr has his LOL

INDY sounds like a lovely day out, I am heading to our beautiful harbour soon, I will try to get some pics for you all. it's a beautiful day here, and the Mr is getting impatient, we don't have to board till later, but he wants to leave NOW .

PATTY  the snow is lovely, Pete says it's lovely till it's not, he spent time in London and Germany when it was snowing, he says it's so beautiful, then it goes sloshy LOL

Nothing else to report, we have bags ready, just emptied the dishwasher, and HIS brother is visiting their sis today, no doubt there will be messages and emails to report.
Julie just messaged, they just left home, it's a long drive for them, they are parking for the 5 nights at the Opera House, just a short walk to the ship from there.  It's easier for them that way, they are 45 mins drive further out from us.

Hope to check in later today or tomorrow, will see how the service is, will definitely check in on Friday (my time)
See you later!

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

Trish, the reason I don’t drive at night is that the lights of oncoming cars bother me. But I also hate coming home to a lonely house at night, thankfully that doesn’t bother me during the day.

Tomorrow I will be having lunch at our local steakhouse with the counting committee from church and our pastor and his wife.  I think the custodian and two part time church secretaries are also joining us.   Other than that and exercise class, I have no plans for the rest of the week.

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

Why is Santa Claus so jolly? Because he knows where all the naughty girls live.

WE'RE GETTING RAIN RIGHT NOW BUT ITS WARMING UP.  SHOULD HIT THE MID 50Sf TODAY.

TRISH.......I THINK DRESSING UP ON A CRUISE IS A GOOD THING.  THERE ARE NOT MANY PLACES A WORKING STIFF CAN GET TO DRESS UP AND FEEL SPECIAL EXCEPT MAYBE CRUISES AND THE SYMPHONY.  ENJOY THOSE NIGHTS.
HAVE YOU EVER EATEN AT THE CAPT'S TABLE?

JANET.......SO YOU ARE GETTING A SMART TV.  I THOUGHT OF THAT BUT I THINK THE TV MIGHT BE SMARTER THAN ME.  I THINK THEY ARE WONDERFUL FOR GETTING SO MANY PROGRAM APPS INSTEAD OF WATCHING THEM ON A SMALL COMPUTER SCREEN.

JUDY......I THINK ITS SMART TO GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN MANAGE IT WELL.  THINGS SEEM TO SLOW DOWN FOR US AS WE GET OLDER.  YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR ENJOYMENT WHEN YOU CAN.
AND YES, I THINK I STARTED SOMETHING WITH FEEDING THE NEIGHBORS.  I STARTED WITH A CLOSE NEIGHBOR CAME HOME FROM HOSPITAL AND HAD LIMITED MOVEMENT AROUND HER APT.  SHE WAS GRATEFUL AND WE LIKED EACH OTHER FROM THE BEGINNING.  THAT LEAD TO FOOD FOR OTHERS WITH AILMENTS.  NOW OTHERS BRING FOOD TO NEIGHBORS AND SHARE SO MUCH.  I THINK ITS A BETTER PLACE NOW.  AND WE TALK MORE, TOO.

WE HAD OUR XMAS LUNCHEON YESTERDAY.  IT WAS LASAGNA BUT A GOOD ONE WITH ITALIAN SAUSAGE, GROUND BEEF AND THE CHEESES SO IT WAS PLEASANT FOR EVERYONE. DRINKS WERE BOTTLED WATER AND CANS OF SODA/SOFT DRINKS.  THEN A COUPLE OF SALADS, AND GOODIES FOR DESSERT.  A COUPLE PIES, CAKES AND CANDY OF DIFFERENT SORTS.  I THINK MY PEANUT BUTTER BALLS WERE BETTER THAN THEIRS.  THEIR'S WERE SORT OF MISSING SOME INNARDS AND STRANGE.  ALL IN ALL A GOOD TIME HAD BY ALL.  MOST OF THEIR OWN CREW EAT WITH US, THE MGMT AND MAINT. PEOPLE, TOO.

I WILL MAKE SOME PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE NEXT.  MAYBE TODAY IF I AM UP TO IT.  I HAVE BINGO LATER SO I DON'T WANT TO GET OVERTIRED.  MY SCHEDULE CALLS FOR FUDGE TOMORROW ANYWAY.  BUT SOMETIMES ITS GOOD TO GET A DAY AHEAD.

THAT'S IT MY DEAR FRIENDS.  HUGS FOR ALL, QB S

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

Devonne, glad to hear Gary is mending and that you got to spend some time together.  I have wanted a small fireplace/heater for awhile. We just have so little available space so I thought this table top size was the best choice when I saw it.  I ordered the Bronze color.  Wanted the Cinnamon red but it was already sold out.  And, Howard and I agreed on the bronze...

QB, you're right and that's what I tell anyone who can still get around.  I'm quite limited, now, with lower back and hip issues so I faithfully use my cane, the walker when it seems right and am a whiz with a grocery cart!  Too bad they're only in groc. stores.

Y'all aren't going to believe this:  Howard is off to lunch with the ROMEOs--Retired Old Men Eating Out--a group from church.  It's open to anyone and he's been invited before but this is his first time.  I hope he "loves" it.  Well...at least likes it.  I never thought I'd see the day when MY husband had a more active social life than I do.  But, I'll take it and have the house to myself for a bit.  Of course, you've never heard THAT before!

One more obscure perk with our "family"  here we get to read  about other's vacations, day trips, fun times, family times, and other joys.  I know that enriches my days and life.

Patty, cute little snowman and nice pic of your man!  I looked up and out this morning and the snow was really coming down...for about ten minutes and then it stopped.  We are predicted for snow this afternoon so it looked like a rehearsal for that.  I know your son and family will appreciate your goodies.  The baby must be old enough now to be told "it's from Grandma".

Janet, congrats on you new smart tv.  I think you'll love it.  With Howard, being a techie, we've had one for so long, I can't remember what the old ones were like.  Of course, like any electronic, it can drive you nuts, too.

I'm going to quit.  For this solitary interlude,  need to get something done, not play it away.
Indy

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

The delivery and installers were here at 8:30 am!  It took them quite a while to set it all up.  Unfortunately, or not, we don’t have a strong enough wifi signal to watch movies (Netflix, etc) so will order Shentel instead of Hughesnet….they are coming to the area in March.  I already know that this TV is too smart for us.  DH called me an idiot in front of them because I asked what I thought was a good question. 😡
I handed them my iPhone and my credit card and they did everything.

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

You are on a horse, galloping at a constant speed. On your right side is a sharp drop off, and on your left side is an elephant traveling at the same speed as you. Directly in front of you is another galloping horse but your horse is unable to overtake it. Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the horse in front of you. What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation?
Get your drunken body off the merry-go-round!

WE'RE SUNNY AND COLD HERE TODAY.  WINDS ARE CALMING DOWN A BIT.

I WON $5.50 AT BINGO SO IT WAS A GOOD NITE.
I HAD A XMAS CARD  "RETURN TO SENDER FOR POSTAGE".  DUH.  I THOUGHT I WAS SO CAREFUL TO GET THEN ALL STAMPED.  ITS BEEN RESENT.
I PLAN TO MAKE PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE ON SCHEDULE TODAY EVEN THOUGH I FEEL A BIT WONKY.  I DON'T WANT TO FALL BEHIND ON MY LIST OF GOODIES.  I THOUGHT I MIGHT MAKE THEN YESTERDAY BUT IT WAS SOOOO WINDY I WORRIED ABOUT POWER OUTAGES.  I KNOW THERE WERE SOME SOUTH OF US YESTERDAY AND WE USUALLY GET THEM WHEN SOMEONE SNEEZES.  LUCKY US WE KEPT OUR POWER.  BUT ITS WINDY TODAY BUT NOT AS MUCH SO I WILL TAKE A CHANCE.

THAT'S IT LADIES.  MY QUIET DAY CONTINUES.   HAVE A NICE ONE.  HUGS, QB S

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

Patty, I'm mortified.  Please forgive me.  That's what a quick look at a small pic will do.  On a closer look and not concentrating on the snowman, of course that's not a man.  Not the first time I've been wrong.  Howard just informed me that "with the lap you have, you  can make pictures bigger, you know"...  NO, of course I didn't know that!

He's off for the 2nd time to T-Mobile.  He discovered our other cell phone carrier had cut us off.  That, after they admitted a couple of weeks ago that the reason they couldn't go ahead and charge our credit card was their problem and they were working on it.  Then we still got another e-mail saying we'd better pay or we'd be shut off.    We never heard anymore so we figured the problem was resolved.  Not so.  When he called them this morning, they still hadn't fixed it.
So he got the proper info for porting our long-held numbers, went to T-Mobile and when it was almost accomplished, they couldn't use our credit card.  Said it was frozen. So, back home to  do whatever it was he needed to about that and now he's headed back to town.    One of the disadvantages of rural living is the ten miles to town. Wrecked his day...

Congrats QB on the big win.  Don't spend it all in one place!  Hope you get your fudge done today.   Loved the joke and was stymied by it until the answer.  So clever...

It's 8 degrees here today.  Brrrrr.   I'm staying put in the house.  Lucky I can, I guess.  Later...
Indy

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

No worries indy!!!
Sandra, I got your card yesterday, thank you!  I loved yesterday's joke.

It's been very cold here, highs of 14 below and there abouts.
Our internet and phone has been in and out since Monday, more out.  TV has been out.  Not that I watch a lot of TV but the holiday baking shows are coming to the end and I want to see them!

We've had people going through the ice already and one 18 year old died.  They have no business going on the ice yet.  Yes it's been cold this week but not enough to make thick ice.  But for me three feet of ice is barely enough!  So glad we don't go ice fishing anymore.

I'm posting this while I think we still have service.  Have a great day everyone.

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

I couldn’t sleep last night…very unusual for me. I was always the one that fell asleep quick and woke up in the morning in the same position.  Sort of a family joke but lately…no.
I’m supposed to go to a guilt bee  luncheon today but don’t really want to.  DH thinks I should go or I’ll be sorry if I don’t?

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

Apartment life often means little privacy.
I realized that one day when my kitten was running around my bedroom, climbing onto shelves and into the dresser as I was getting ready for work. I finally exploded
at the kitten: “You’d
better sit down; you’re getting on my nerves!” A second later, a voice from upstairs
responded, “OK!”

BRIGHT AND SUNNY BUT COLDDDD.  WILL NOT GET OUT OF THE 30S THIS WEEK.

TRISH......I HOPE YOU ARE HAVING A WONDERFUL TRIP.  ENJOY THE DRESSING UP.

THERESA.....THOUGHT OF YOU TODAY WHEN I SET MY TV TO RECORD AMC TOMORROW MORNING FOR A BOY NAMED CHARLIE BROWN AND SNOOPY, COME HOME.

DEVONNE......I HOPE YOU ARE HAVING A GREAT DAY AND THAT GARY IS FEELING MUCH BETTER.

JANET.....I AGREE.  GO OUT AND HAVE SOME FUN.

PATTY......LIKE YOU I ENJOY THE HOLIDAY BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWS. THERE ARE SEVERAL DEALING WITH XMAS THIS YEAR INCLUDING HARRY POTTER.

THE KID IS ME IS ENJOYING THE ANIMATED XMAS FEATURES WITH FROSTY, RUDOLPH, AND EVEN FRED FLINTSTONE.  ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR.

I MADE PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE YESTERDAY.  NO NUTS.  TODAY I PLAN TO MAKE A BATCH WITH WALNUTS, MY FAVORITE.  I'M A NUT LOVER.  I ALSO NEED TO MAKE SOME BUNDIES FOR MY DAUGHTER AND HER FAMILY.  I WILL FREEZE THOSE FOR HER.  I DON'T KNOW WHEN SHE WILL BE DROPPING BY.

THAT'S MY PLAN FOR TODAY.  ALSO MY LAPS.  I WAS A BIT OFF-KILTER YESTERDAY SO ONLY DID 1 LAP.  NOT ENOUGH FOR SURE.  WILL DO MORE TODAY
STAY SAFE AND WARM.  HUGS QB S

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

For the first time in many years, last night I went to an elementary school Christmas program. My great nephew is a first grader at the school where my kids went and invited me to his program. It was cute but by the time it was over my back was really hurting from sitting on the bleachers.

I did something stupid yesterday. As I backed out of the garage I hit the garage door closer button too soon. The door hit my car, thankfully no damage to car.   I raised door, backed out, then closed door … and it immediately raised back up. After two more tries, I realized that I must have caused a problem. I figured out that the roller on one side of door had jumped out of the track causing the door to be in way of the electric eye. Not a serious bit of damage but I couldn’t get it back in.   Thankfully the man who lives next door works from home and has repeatedly told me to call him if I need help. 5 minutes after he came over, it was fixed!  As a thank you, I gave him a generous serving of the chicken and veggie stir fry that I fixed for my evening meal. He is such a nice guy, even brought me a lovely scarf from his recent work trip to India.

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

Marylou, glad your neighbor knew what to do & your car wasn't damaged. My garage door wouldn't close one day. Thankfully, my lawn guy was here and fixed the problem. A quick broom sweep to get rid of spider webs in front of the laser eye...fixed in 5 seconds, lol.

Today I addressed Christmas cards, which I didn't think I would get done, went to the PO, UPS Store and Walmart. It was tiring but today was my last day to get the Amazon returns to UPS.

Sandra, thank you. Gary is feeling much better. He says he can eat a lot more different things now.

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

The CEO of a large corporation was giving advice to a junior executive. “I was young, married, and out of work,” he lectured. “I took the last nickel I had and bought an apple. I polished it and sold it for a dime. The next day I bought two apples, polished them, and sold them for ten cents each.”“I see,” said the junior executive. “You kept reinvesting your money and grew a big business.” “No,” said the CEO. “Then my wife’s father died and left me a fortune.”
SUNNY AND COLD TODAY. BRRRR.
I MADE MORE PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE YESTERDAY, SOME OF IT WITH NUTS.  I AM HAPPY.
TODAY I REALLY NEED TO MAKE THE BUNDIES FOR MY DAUGHTER AND HER FAMILY.

MARYLOU......SORRY YOUR GARAGE DOOR GOT KNOCKED OFF TRACK.  AT LEAST YOU KNEW HOW TO FIX IT EVEN IF IT TOOK YOUR NEIGHBOR TO DO IT FOR YOU.  AND I'M SURE HE APPRECIATED THE STIR FRY PAYMENT.
WHEN I LIVED WITH MY SON, I HAD THE DUTY TO PICK UP THE KIDS FROM THE BUS STOP AFTER SCHOOL.  IT WAS A MILE DOWN A ROAD WITH A STEEP HILL AT ONE END SO NATURALLY I TOOK THE CAR.  ONE DAY I TRIED TO OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR WITH MY REMOTE AND IT WOULDN'T OPEN.  MY MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE WAS NIL.  HAD TO WALK DOWN THAT ROAD TO MEET THE GRANDS TO WALK THEM HOME.  WHAT A TIRING TREK FOR ALL OF US.  COME TO FIND OUT ALL I HAD TO DO WAS PULL THE ROPE DOWN AND THE DOOR WOULD GO UP BY HAND.  DUH, DUH.  LEARNED MORE ABOUT IT SO IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN,  AND ABOUT THE SEEING EYE AND KEEPING IT CLEAR.

DEVONNE......GOOD TO HEAR GARY IS EATING MORE THINGS AND IS IMPROVING.  YOU NEED HIM HEALTHY FOR YOU SOON.

WELL, BLUE BLOODS IS DONE.  I WATCHED THEIR FINAL PROGRAM OF THE SERIES LAST NITE.  AFTER 14 YEARS ITS FINISHED.  ENJOYED THAT SHOW.  IT HAD GOOD THINGS HAPPENING MOST OF THE TIME. IT FINISHED ON A GOOD NOTE.

THAT'S IT LADIES.  I HAVE TO SORT MY PILLS AND TAKE MY LAPS.  MAYBE WORK ON THE JIGSAW A BIT OR DO A BIT OF SEWING.  GOSH, I'D BETTER SEW.  I CAN FINISH MY XMAS GNOME FOR THIS YEAR.
HUGS FOR ALL.  QB S

Re: ODT SUN DEC 8 ~ SAT DEC 14

Glad you're all fixed up again, Mary Lou  My garage door story is I let the door down on the top of the car.  Long ago so I don't remember the car but the garage door bottom edge never looked the same.  Guess it's not too uncommon an issue when you do the same maneuver over and over to goof it up, occasionally.
QB, I know about the rope but probably wouldn't remember it in a pinch!

Yesterday, at Howard's behest, we went out again to Bass Pro.  He actually said he thought we should absorb (my word) some of the Christmas spirit.  And, I was able to get myself a birthday present and ML's Christmas present.  Both the same--off-white color called Birch, zip-front cardigans of rough, teddy bear-type yarn.  Talk about warm...I sat here all evening toasty as I could be.  Afterwards, we treated ourselves to our favorite pizza at the pizza place. Meaning hot out of the oven instead of lukewarm from the 10 miles home.  It was delicious.  Lots  of leftovers waiting in the frig.

Trish, so sorry about the sea sickness. Ugh!   Especially when you've not had that before under the same conditions.  Former Navy sailor, Howard says lots of saltines with minimal water was what helped him.
I hope your shipshape by now.

Devonne, your'e in my thoughts  and prayers every day as your surgery approaches.  So glad Gary is doing so much better.  As QB said, you'll need him.    But you surely have done a lot to be ahead of the game in the last few days.

My next move here is to put some pork steaks in the crock pot for supper, then a shower and hair wash and put out the final Christmas decorations.  Hope I get that all done...
Indy
