Sauerkraut casserole
l lb ground beef or turkey (I used beef)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 can tomato soup or sauce
1/2 can water
I 8-10 oz can tomato sauce with garlic and basil (added because the casserole seemed dry)
8 oz wide egg noodles
14 oz sauerkraut drained well
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
Preheat oven to 350. Brown meat with onion and garlic powder if desired.
Prepare noodles according to direction, drain but don’t rinse. Cook slightly al dente.
Pour drained sauerkraut into greased 9x13 pan or casserole. Sprinkle with brown sugar.
Pour noodles over. pour ground meat over noodles. mix the water with the soup or sauce, and the sauce with garlic and basil, and pour over mixture, making sure the sauce seeps down into the noodles. Top with shredded Swiss. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.
This is actually half of the original recipe, and it made a big casserole full.
